AT&T N950U Odin fails after using SamFail Root - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Questions & Answers

Last year i rooted my Note 8 using the SamFail V3 method, in anticipation of the Pie & OneUI update, I am attempting to reset to stock firmware to allow my device to receive OTA updates. However, Odin is failing to flash the stock firmware onto my device, I have tried every firmware version I can get my hands on, and still Odin fails with Device info or Write Error. Has anyone encountered this, some guidance would be most appreciated.

You're using the wrong odin.. Try the newest odin.

This works for me, but I'm assuming you have 950U version. I included CRK1 to help you, as well as the Odin that is patched and works for me every time. https://bit.ly/2DBbCTP

G900P MM downgrade

HI I was wondering if anyone could help verify that the downgrade is possible from 6.0 to 5.0 OK4. I used Odin to flash the stock OK4 firmware to my phone when I was on the 6.0MM firmware and I just want some one that is willing to test what I did just to verify that I wasn't just lucky.
What I did was while on 6.0 I setup ADB for the phone, rebooted to download mode and used Odin3-v3.10.6 to flash G900PVPU3BOK4_G900PSPT3BOK4_G900PVPU3BOK4_HOME.tar (got this from sammobile). When phone rebooted it got stuck at the boost logo screen for longer than I liked so I used "ADB reboot recovery" command and in recovery did a factory reset and then booted into system and I am having no issues. So can some one else test this so that I know it is a 100% way to downgrade?
I just flashed the OK4 tar via odin to go back to stock and take the MM update again. I wiped everything but internal and external storage in TWRP first. It's currently downloading the MM update.
i've successfully taken the PCA update twice, and used ODIN to go back to OK4 and update once again.
the bootloader does not appear to lock firmware.

Correct, because when you odin OK4 it restores the stock recovery and everything else etc, so everything is stock again, system status is official etc. then you can either download the OTA as normal or take the zip from your thread and update from stock recovery. i've done it both methods.

I assumed you couldn't revert. That's awesome though thanks

I can also confirm that too, I just did a downgrade to OK4, after I unsuccessfully tried to downgrade to OA6. I assume that pyrochance (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=66266625&postcount=138) is right.
If i was helpful, feel free to hit the thanks button on those posts
Are you rooted? I'm not rooted, and from BOK4 I was not able to downgrade via Odin to an earlier firmware that supports towelroot. I am now on Android 6 (OTA). Question - on Android 6 is it now possible to downgrade to an earlier firmware (without root, and without tripping knox)? If so is it only to BOK4? Thanks in advance.

Yes. You can only downgrade to OK4. If you weren't able to go to a previous version when on OK4 why would you be able to once beyond it?

Thanks Kreatur3, was thinking that with the new firmware they might have relaxed their restriction on downgrading. I would think that with any new official firmware, they could pretty much do whatever they want, like even take out all protections and allow you to root without tripping knox (which I know they wouldn't), or am I misunderstanding something?

They could allow it but won't. It's obvious with the direction they are going with the s7. I can see why maybe providers don't want you to have that power but don't know why the manufacturer cares. Beyond the pressure from cell phone companies. I don't care about knox personally. I'm way beyond the warranty period and trip it every time the day I gety phones.

You are welcome.
I'm having a bit of trouble. I was on MM, then the phone started freezing up. So I went back to OK4 but I can't get past the Samsung boot up logo. It stays on there forever and doesn't move past it. I even tried to replays through Odin multiple times but still not working. I'm stuck.

How to root boc4 Verizon

Hi Everyone, I am stuck for forever on this rom and have been searching on how to root the boc4 version, because i want to move to 6.0.1 with the help of flashfire, and it requires root in order to work, any help would greatly be appreciated. Ty.

Easiest would be to ODIN to PB1, root that, then use the SafeStrap from that load to run any PB1 rom or upgrade to PD1
To ODIN and root PB1 follow http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370
ODIN to PB1 is found in the section "Prepare your phone for root"
Root is in the first part of the OP, I did from the "very important" until line 5 (skipping line 2)
Reboot phone open Safestrap app and Click Reboot To Recovery. If during this process you every get stuck on samsung screen.
Pull battery reboot phone to bootloader (VolDwn+Pwr+Home) load a PB1 rom such as https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24438995911967916 from @muniz_ri
Once you load the rooted PB1 you can unlock the bootloader and follow my post on how I updated at http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...0-keeproot-t3149784/post67248881#post67248881
Can i not just download the 6.0.1 firmware from sammobile and upgrade through odin, Cause I am concerned i will brick my phone or smth and I am not at home and don't have a laptop with (will have to use a public one). Thanks
Updating directly to PD1 is possible if you can find a tar file, but PD1 is not rootable without the unlocked bootloader which can only be achieved through PB1.

Don't know how far you want to go but just ODIN back to NCG, TowelRoot, install FlashFire and go to muniz_ri's root thread. Check your CID by using phone info app and you may be able to unlock your device if you've got the 15 eMMC chip. Currently the 11 chip is work in progress for unlocking the bootloader....but do as you wish to root...I'm 'ol school....lol

Just bought a new G930T, can I root then upgrade OS to Oreo?

This will be my first phone I'm rooting, so I don't have much experience with this. I plan on installing Magisk, so I was curious if I can still upgrade the OS after rooting or should I upgrade then root. Thank you for your help!
You can update stock firmware at any time using Odin https://updato.com/how-to/how-to-install-an-official-samsung-stock-firmware-using-odin
Note: It's an old article and links an old version of Odin, make sure to download the latest version
As for root and Magisk, the USA S7's have a locked bootloader so you can't install magisk. Root is possible but limited https://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-galaxy-s7/development/easyroot-unroot-t3859760
If you go too far ahead in firmware version, the methods used for root are patched. So if you're going to try it, make sure you flash an older version in Odin.

Downgrade Android 8 to 7 - Binary 3?

Hello,
I am attempting to downgrade from Android 8 to 7 on Galaxy S7. When I attempt to flash the old firmware I get the error 'Device 3 - Binary 2'. Does anyone know if there is a workaround for this yet?

Odin will not let you flashback to a previous boot loader version, you have to do it through TWRP. So either flash the nougat firmware with TWRP first or any nougat based rom, then flash nougat via odin which will remove root and TWRP.

Are there any instructions for this?
Will secure apps (Banking etc) work again after removing root?
I was under the impression you could via Odin if OEM unlock was enabled, without needing TWRP or root. https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/how-to/guide-how-to-downgrade-android-oreo-8-0-t3821495
edit: As for banking, if you go root then flash back to stock you should have no issues. Even if you stay root, things like Magisk will hide root status from apps and pass safetynet. Your biggest issue would be the loss of Knox, which voids warranty and breaks some Samsung apps.

It is not possible as per some of the replies to that thread. I spent a few hours playing TWRP yesterday and it was not possible either.

Ok so listen, it can be done as i said but it's not easy. The choice you have of course before attempting this is to just install a android 7 custom ROM? many nougat ROMs are just stock with the bloatware removed and the boot-loader version isn't checked during flash.
Here's another way to go back, i can't guarantee it will work though i haven't tried it on an S7.
Downgrade to an older firmware with an older bootloader even if one keeps the newer bootloader on his device.
So what's how's it done?
Download the firmware file (.tar) which you want to downgrade to and open it with an archiver application (7zip). Extracts all the files to a folder and repacks them again in a .tar file but leaving every file out which ends in .bin (e.g. sboot.bin etc.). This .tar file can now be flashed like any other firmware file via Odin and it should run through it without any problems.
Hope this helps.

SM-G955FD upgrade to Pie from 7

hello everyone,
i have S8+ with android 7 installed, not rooted and still didnt get any OTA for either oreo or Pie, so i decided to do it manually but i wanna make sure of the steps since it's been a while for me not flashing anything.
first thing i should know is that this update is going to wipe my phone due to the bootloader update
and about that bootloader update, should i flash pie bootloader first or just flash a stock ROM with odin that includes bootloader file ?
any help with this issue is much appreciated

If you are going to update with Odin flash full firmware. ( 4 files )
As for wiping your phone when you unzip the downloaded firmware there will be 2 CSC files.
CSC - Clean install will wipe your data ( same as factory reset )
Home CSC - Dirty install should keep your data
Always do a backup before doing anything.
Note: Make sure after you upgrade your firmware to update your apps so that they will be comparable with new firmware.
