I'm in 4.4.4 stock, locked bootloader, non-root and s-on. I want to be in stock lollipop with tethering enabled. I'm not in US
I know that I can get s-off with WeakSauce+sunshine (then root, unlock bootloader and enable tethering) , but since i'm not in US I can't get OTA update, then I have to use RUU.
Then I'm thinking to get s-off, apply Lollipop RUU, but to enable tethering i need a custom recovery, then I need to unlock bootloader. But to unlock the bootloader I need root (since I can't unlock it by htcdev) and I can't root if i have locked bootloader.
Any ideas?
the same to me, but now I have updated 5.0.1,also s-on and locked.

Sunshine gets you s-off and unlocks your bootloader so that shouldn't be a problem for you. Make sure you get s-off before you update to lollipop. Sunshine doesn't support lollipop yet. Once you have a custom recovery installed it's a simple matter of flashing a zip file in recovery to get root access.

Hi
Do you have any good and safe method for unlocking bootloader and root the newest firmware (.182)?
I have a doubt related to android OS.Suppose i unlock my bootloader (just only unlock the bootloader ,no rooting,no custom recovery installation). Now, can i install OTA updates with this unlocked bootloader.
I don't think so because while installing the new ota update would probably check whether the bootloader is locked or no.You can try otherwise and let us know how it went.

You can with an unlocked bootloader as long as you make no changes to your /system partition.
Hi there fellow developers! I was just wondering if pushing Custom Recovery was possible for the XT1028(Verizon). I've read about sunshine bootloader unlock, but I am not willing to hand-over 25$ just to unlock a bootloader.
Hello everyone, how safe are devices with an unlocked bootloader?
Are devices more vulnerable with their bootloader unlocked?
What happens when someone unlocks the bootloader of their device?
Does it make sense to install Lineage OS on a device that will then have an unlocked bootloader however with TWRP password protected and not rooted?
IMHO for good reasons Android doesn't come rooted, doesn’t come bootloader-unlocked out of the box: unlocking a phone's bootloader creates severe security risks.
