[Q] Enabling tethering and stock Lollipop - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I'm in 4.4.4 stock, locked bootloader, non-root and s-on. I want to be in stock lollipop with tethering enabled. I'm not in US
I know that I can get s-off with WeakSauce+sunshine (then root, unlock bootloader and enable tethering) , but since i'm not in US I can't get OTA update, then I have to use RUU.
Then I'm thinking to get s-off, apply Lollipop RUU, but to enable tethering i need a custom recovery, then I need to unlock bootloader. But to unlock the bootloader I need root (since I can't unlock it by htcdev) and I can't root if i have locked bootloader.
Any ideas?

the same to me, but now I have updated 5.0.1,also s-on and locked.

Sunshine gets you s-off and unlocks your bootloader so that shouldn't be a problem for you. Make sure you get s-off before you update to lollipop. Sunshine doesn't support lollipop yet. Once you have a custom recovery installed it's a simple matter of flashing a zip file in recovery to get root access.

[Q] After official OTA update.. No unlocked bootloader etc. ?

Will I get the official OTA update if I have unlocked the bootloader via HTCdev method? Actually, I unlocked the bootloader via HTCdev on my sensation which is still in Android 2.3.4. (At that point I didn't know that doing that would not allow supercid and all that stuff.)
If I will get the update.. I just wanted to know after the official OTA update from HTC, will it be a like a new phone? (yeah, i know it will be factory reset.. but i wanted to know if my bootloader, rooting and etc. Will that remain?)
I want the all the rooting and unlocked bootloader not to stay so that i can start afresh with Revolutionary and flash one of the Sense 4 ROMs.. Please help!!
Thank you!

Yes you will receive OTA and bootloader will remain **unlocked**. All you need to receive OTA is stock rom, stock recovery and original cid (S-OFF or S-ON doesn't matter).
By the way if you are still on android 2.3.4 most probably your Hboot is 1.18 that means you can S-Off using Revolutionary and then supercid, root etc.. (you can revert easily to original cid and stock recovery anytime).
If you upgrade to ICS 4.0 with Hboot 1.27 you won't be able to S-OFF and supercid unless someone will find a solution. Actually Hboot 1.27 is not supported by Revolutionary.
Ota to ICS 4.0 will not factory reset your phone. Your data and apps will be untouched.
Honestly I don't understand if you are rooted or not. Unlocking bootloader by HtcDev doesn't mean you are rooted. Could you please clarify?
Hope it helps.

[Q] Hboot 1.18 unlocked bootloader, need help upgrading to ICS

I have hboot 1.18, with bootloader unlocked using HTC Dev, and I'm running ARHD with stock kernel.
Revolutionary gives me the zerg root error, so I used HTC Dev method. But now I'm unable to use the tacoroot method because my bootloader is unlocked. I tried relocking the bootloader, but that gives me a security warning and I can't boot my phone normally without unlocking it again.
Can someone please tell me how to upgrade to ICS now?
I'm a noob and I don't want to experiment too much and brick my phone.

hmm by relocking you mean fastboot oem lock ?
that should not give security warning...
also before trying tacoroot ...you should flash stock recovery first...any GB stock recovery would do...(fastboot flash recovery recovery.img)
I had a NANDROID backup which I made just after unlocking the bootloader and rooting my phone. I restored that backup before relocking (fastboot oem lock) but it gave me the security warning.
Also, what if I relock the bootloader and then run a BG RUU? Would that work?

the latest leaked update 1.85 isn't rootable so if you want to unlock your bootloader and get in on that fun you should go ahead and do it rather than wait.

i'm still on 1.73 and looking to root only for the purpose of being able to install root-only apps, and not for the purpose of flashing custom roms. if you say that 1.85 isn't rootable, does this mean i should root before getting the update (whenever it becomes available from Rogers)? and if i do take this route, will the update unroot my phone?

1.85 is possible to root and Bootloader unlock. First root your phone ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1644167)
Then use this tool ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1672284 ). That will unlock your bootloader and install SuperCID (that's why we do it, for SCID).
After unlocked, you must relock your bootloader, flash 1.85 RUU, then unlock again, flash cwm, and flash Superuser ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676101 ).
Good luck. It can happen, it's just a long process.

That method is incompatible with 1.85. You will receive an error when trying to root it with that.

Verizon HTC One M8 - Stock to GPE ROM

Can anyone refer me to a how to for how to go about flashing this rom on a 100% stock phone? Every guide I look at says before starting this you must s-off first, must root first, must unlock bootloader first which is confusing. Is there an all in one guide available for doing this?
With my GS3 it was much simpler, just unlock bootloader, flash recovery/root/ROM and go.

You need s-off because on Vzw HTC you can't unlock bootloader with s-on via htcdev cause Vzw blacklist it. So their for you need s-off to unlock thru there. If you use sunshine which is a app you run very simple that will s-off an unlock your bootloader then you can just flash a recovery an flash SuperSU for root an then flash any ROM you want.

Can I root without unlocking my boot loader?

Is there a way to just root your phone without unlocking your boot loader? I just want to simply root and install some apps that require root but that is it.
Thanks...

I'm pretty sure that you need to unlock your bootloader first.
Not sure if you can unlock - root - relock ??
I think this is not possible yet without unlocking the bootloader.

Once you unlock and relock your bootloader, its status will be relocked, so your warranty is void anyways.
So I have to unlock the boot loader first. Dam I assume that is on the difficult side of things as well...

If you want the status to show "locked" and not relocked to get your warranty back, you can use the downgrade package from nougat to marshmallow and flash stock B131.
I managed to relock my bootloader using this method : my fastboot screen says "locked" (and not "relocked")

Wait for kingroot method. No need to unlocking bootloader to root, people do it because its only one way to have root on honor 8 now - by flashing supersu in twrp, and twrp/modified recovery you can flash only if you unlocked your bootloader first.
