How to have the T-Mobile SIM Card recognized in the Unlocked Sprint S7? - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Was on Sprint and decided to change to T-Mobile and now the new T-Mobile SIM Card is unrecognizable/unable to register. This means I am left with no Data/Voice/Text. Checked on a T-Mobile S9 to verify its not the actual card. Works flawlesly, so its not the actual SIM Card itself. 3 months back and forth on and off wrestling with both carriers. Sprint claims device to be Unlocked. T-Mobile claims that its impossible because it sais "device not registered" when I try to make a call. They assured me that this happens only if its locked. Sprint has claimed various times that my S7 (non edge) version is Unlocked for both Domestic and International. Phone was rooted. I was so angry at Sprint you wouldn't even believe it.
Tried flashing T-Mobile FW as the internet suggested. Got it to work and remove the Sprint logo from startup and the super annoying "hands on activation" every 5 minutes thanks to the T-Mobile FW. Problem is that it still does not recognize the SIM Card. Went back to Sprint FW because Sprint rep number zillion said I needed to do a profile update in order to make sure that it got correctly unlocked. I couldnt do this because I had the T-Mobile FW (Oreo 8.0 SM-G930T G930TUVS8CRL1_G930TTMB8CRL1_TMB) and it does not even allow you to do the usual System Updates nor does it allow you to even edit APN's. So I tried to go back to Sprint FW from SamMobile Official (SM-G930P_1_20181203144853_tiy1p0tkd7_fac) and actually got it all installed (all binaries) and now the phone does not display the Sim Card "error" icon on the top left nor the circle crossed icon on the top right. Problem now is that the phone automatically power-cycles in about 2-3 minutes after we start the usual "First Time Use" sequence where you fill your Google User Name and Password and sign the EULA, other first time things, etc. I can't just put in my Sprint SIM Card because I threw that one away as I unsuspected that it would be necessary in order to maybe try to use it to get it past the 2 minute barrier on going back to Sprint FW. Next step would be to take it to a Sprint store and have a Sprint SIM Card inside the phone and see if the 2 minute barrier doesn't happen so I can do this new "Profile Update".
I then tried flashing what I believe to be the non carrier specific official non bloatware Samsung FW SM-G930U. Now the issue is that the version I downloaded from these forums (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/g930u-official-stock-firmware-android-8-t3821152) was not able to flash anything but the CP. So Im now going to try the latest SM-G930U which does have the updated BL.
Checked out the forums for T-Mobile and they all assume you can at least edit APN's and have some sort of connectivity. I can't even get my SIM Card working AT ALL. Can't edit APN's because the Sprint FW auto resets every 2 minutes in the new user thing and the T-Mobile FW does not even have the ability to do so. Tried starting on Safe Mode, tried removing the Sim Card and discovered phone wont even boot without it.
Will now continue to check out the SM-G930U latest FW in hopes that this will in fact allow me to flash the non carrier specific binaries which I assume should be able to fix the problem. Trying out https://forum.xda-developers.com/sp...0u-firmware-bootloader-update-device-t3863219. At SamMobile (https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/galaxy-s7/SM-G930U/BST/download/G930UUES8CSA1/255180/) theres like a zillion to choose from. Any suggestions?
Been getting the fused 8 binary 2 (and other numbers) glitch a couple of times when trying to flash anything. I assume this is due to the BL. Heard QualComm S7's were invincible and I'm afraid its a QualComm because it sais QualComm SecureBoot: ENABLE on the top right of the ODIN Download screen.

Hello
As far as i know you still cannot unlock the Qualcomm boot loader, many have tried and failed and no one is working on this anymore since most S7's sold are Exynos. Samsung did a right ****ty deal with the US networks hence it's so difficult to get these phones to work on another network.
Not only is it just a question of unlocking the Boot Loader the sneaky bastards of US networks has the firmware on the devices constantly checking its official and on the right network, this is why the phone will not work correctly even after flashing unbranded firmware. It's all down to the boot loader and the qualcomm chip.
There is a way to release your phone from it's prison and that is to change the mother board to a Exynos one, apparently this has been successful and the phone will work on any US network. It's a tricky process but it can be done but remember to create an image of your existing EFS partition to flash with TWRP to the new mother board otherwise you will have issues with the phone registering on the network.

So basically I have to get an Exynos version, remove the mother board, and install it on the Qualcomm one.
Why not use the Exynos one instead if I'm going to have to acquire one anyway to do all of this? Where can I get these motherboards without the phones anyway?
Last "carrier" phone I'm buying ever. Next is a Linux Librem phone or non carrier specific type phones strictly.
This is ridiculous. These multi billion dollar corporations essentially just put a virus on your phone and you got to be lucky someone on XDA hacks it or you've been legally locked out of your own hardware; scammed by "your" carrier and that's it. Its completely disgusting they have to try to squeeze every last penny out of all of their victims after they have already so much money.
Its like YouTube wanting to charge 2 dollars a month so you can turn off your screen while watching a video (YouTube Red). Alphabet (company that owns YouTube) is well in the 1 Trillion Dollar net worth range already, but they still need to use these hardcore guerrilla tactics against their "clients" at expense of their physical health to squeeze every last penny out of them like their life depended on it. Phone screen left on generates palpable air-wave toxicity (and pollution for planet as a side effect) as I can personally feel it giving me a headache more than when its turned off.
At least with PC issues you can just format and restart. Imagine if PC manufacturers were like this. Vomitose.
Dell won't claim its "their computer" (like the phone carriers do) as an excuse to lock you out of your own paid hardware if you want to change something you don't like about *your* computer.
I literally remember one of the Sprint reps literally mocking me on the phone snarkily reiterating that it was "Their Phone" as she laughed me off to hold again. We have to basically suck up their corporate legal abuse and let em sort out in hell.
We luckily have a boot looped Optimus phone lying around the house I'm now having to fall back to. Hopefully the carrier did not place an untamed virus on that one.
**** Sprint and every large corporation trying that hard to legally scam their own clients/victims to squeeze out every single last penny out of them like this. **** this "planet" and the "legal system" that allows this. **** the system carrier virus.

I repair S7's on a daily basis, and can tell you that while the mother boards on the G93xU and G93xF are physically identical, if you swap them into the opposite model's case, you will get a MIPI Fail error (will loose signal) under the test command *#0#* due to the charging port/antenna boards being different. And you can't swap those boards either because parts of it are tucked under the screen (unless you're willing to break a screen.

SM-G930VL Questions From A Beginner

I've just purchased a used SM-G930VL (Straight Talk) phone on Swappa. I requested the SM-G930U, but they apparently sent the wrong model.
The reason I wanted to SM-G930U model was so I could insert any SIM card and it would work.
Questions (and I'm new to Android as you can probably tell below):
- Is the SM-G930VL Verizon / Straight Talk model usually unlocked to ONLY use any SIM card from Straight Talk or would I be able to use any US carrier?
- Is there a way to put SM-G930U firmware on a SM-G930VL phone and is there an advantage to this?
- Will the SM-G930U firmware unlock the phone in case it's locked to Straight Talk only?
- Can I brick the phone for good if I attempt to Flash it and I do it wrong? or is it always possible to bring the phone back from the dead?
- Is there a recent tutorial on how to make the phone accept any carrier?
I tried using Odin to Flash the phone from SM-G930VL to SM-G930V, but was following a 2 year old YouTube video, so the files were outdated and I was unsuccessful.
The phone is running Android 8.0.0 and Knox 3.1, API level 25.

: the SM-G930VL is programmed to only work with straight talk sim cards. The phone is factory unlocked as far as i know but it does not allow network connectivity with non ST sim cards.
- Is there a way to put SM-G930U firmware on a SM-G930VL phone and is there an advantage to this?
: Yes you can put the SM-G930U firmware. All US Galaxy S7S are the same hardware wise. The Advantage is that it completely removes everything that ST baked into the firmware.
- Will the SM-G930U firmware unlock the phone in case it's locked to Straight Talk only?
: If in case the device is sim locked to ST, flashing the SM-G930U firmware will not sim unlock the device.
- Can I brick the phone for good if I attempt to Flash it and I do it wrong? or is it always possible to bring the phone back from the dead?
: There are always risks when it comes to flashing any device. When it comes to Samsung devices it's hard to really hard brick a device using and official flash tool like Odin. the device cab get soft bricked but most of the times it's because of user error that it happens.
- Is there a recent tutorial on how to make the phone accept any carrier?
: there are many of them here on the forums but i can try my best to give you a quick run down:
1. First download the SM-G930U firmware from here
2. Download Odin from this thread, Credits to OP on that thread
3. Once Files are downloaded, extract the firmware and odin on the same folder for convinience.
4. Once you extract the firmware, you will have 5 files that each start with BL, AP, CP, HOME_CSC, and CSC (you will need BL, AP, CP and CSC only)
5. open Odin and load each file above in there respective slots, you will be able to see where each file needs to go, note that the AP file will take a few minutes to load as this is the biggest file of the 4.
6. at this point am assuming your galaxy s7 is completely off, Press and hold the Home + Volume down + Power keys together until you see a warning screen about flashing custom firmware, press Volume up to get to Download/Odin Mode.
7. connect your S7 to your PC, use usb 2.0 ports preferably. Let Windows install the drivers (you can get samsung drivers from here, make sure you install these first i.e. before connecting your phone to your PC)
8. Once Windows installs the drivers, on Odin, click START and wait for all the files to flash, DO NOT DISCONNECT THE PHONE until Odin says Pass or something similar.
9. The phone will automatically go to recovery mode and display installing update. It will reboot again and start to boot into android. once fully booted.
10. Once booted fully, you will be on Android Oreo for the unbranded Galaxy S7 with nothing from straight talk and also you will be able to use any sim card on the device.
I tried using Odin to Flash the phone from SM-G930VL to SM-G930V, but was following a 2 year old YouTube video, so the files were outdated and I was unsuccessful.

btw i know this because i myself got a straighttalk galaxy s7 when it first came out. i switched to the unbranded firmware as soon as it was made available and have not gone back to the straight talk firmware ever. the phone behaves like an actual unlocked SM-G930U device and gets updates (albeit a little slower than carrier branded S7s) directly from samsung.
Also once you follow, this go to settings and software updates to get the latest available updates available from Samsung.

Apologies for not answering earlier. I really appreciate your offer and thoughts, however I just returned the S7 and purchased a used S8 instead.

Hey thanks for the thread folks!
I am also (an old) beginner! Followed the instructions (Thank you @micallan_17) and was able to successfully flash stock G930U into a T-Mobile S7 which was supposed to have been unlocked when I bought it, but apparently was not! So, with G930U everything works with my Consumer Cellular SIM (AT&T network), but I can not call out or receive calls! Flashed phone back to T-Mobile stock G930T and took it to a T-Mobile store. They were kind and put a demo SIM in it and it worked to call out. So, the hardware seems to be working. Back to G930U, I have wiped cache and data, but still no calls! Can send and receive text, WiFi works and have 4G LTE functional. It also shows the VoLTE option and WiFi calling, but won't do either. Basically, it is a smartphone that is only smart!
Any brilliant fixing suggestions out there?

Hi, Glad the instructions were helpful, regarding the call issue, when you try calling, does it give you an error message? Also when you go to settings>connections>mobile networks, what shows under Network Mode?

Hi, thanks for the reply.
When I call a number, it acts and says it is dialing but it is quiet even with speaker on, and after about a minute it hangs up. No error messages appear. Calling the number from another phone goes to voicemail after a couple of rings, as though the number is busy or off. The Network Mode shows as LTE/3G/2G (auto connect). I also noticed that WiFi Calling that showed up with T-Mobile is missing with this setup, so I misspoke previously.
Update and a question on this topic

First an update:
So, after I was convinced that the phone was still locked to T-Mobile, I wrote to the seller and they offered to exchange it. I got the second S7 and it is working fine, still T-Mobile but obviously unlocked! Now I am thinking of flashing it with the G930U ROM, but am not sure if it will affect the unlocking.
My question is just that: I assume the boot-loader is locked; then will going to the Samsung unlocked ROM mess things up? And if it happens that I can not call out with it like the first unit, going back to G930T ROM may not bring it back to the current state!
Has anyone have words of wisdom in this regard?

It should not lock the Device, the U firmware should flash just fine, Flashing the U firmware does not affect the boot loader locked state. make sure the device is permanently sim unlocked not temporary unlocked.
Benefits (if any) of unlocked firmware

The major benefit (if any) of U (unlocked/carrierless) firmware (from posts in this and other carrier threads) is the avoidage of carrier-specific applications (which are almost universally regarded as *bloatware*). However, because of scripts written by the talented folks elsewhere on XDA, even the most bloated carrier firmware can be skimmed of bloat without the concern that you could be shooting yourself in the foot by not getting a feature that can be firmware-reliant (such as VoLTE or VoWifi). Further, some carriers (Verizon Wilreless most notably) have a stock-only firmware policy (that is, in fact, the biggest ding I have with Big Red).

My S7 (Snapdragon model) is not merely ex-Verizon, but one with a blacklisted IMEI on Big Red; the same would apply to any S7 (the gotcha with a blacklisted IMEI is that you can't take the phone back to the carrier that blacklisted the IMEI in question). The ONLY reason why blacklisted IMEIs happen is going to be contract-breakage (which is commonplace with long contracts - more than carriers want to admit). Still, you CAN take a phone with a blacklisted IMEI to another carrier (in my case, I took it to the the T-Mobile side of Tracfone). Other than that, you can go to any carrier.
Since I have been on the Tracfone side of T-Mobile, I have run T-Mobile Nougat, AT&T Mobility beta Oreo, AT&T Mobility Oreo Final, then T-Mobile Oreo - all without changing carriers, and all on the same S7. (You read that right - for at least two months, I ran firmware technically alien to both carrier AND phone - and it mattered to neither.) What has to be pointed out is that - until the b8 firmware, the ONLY carrier that quibbled about firmware is Verizon - and even that does not apply to their MVNOs, such as Tracfone.) Still, you have to wonder, why does Verizon care - especially since no other carrier did - even with phones under contract - until b8 came along - and that is only with the S7 in update-only mode? (It isn't as if Pie were in the offing for the S7.)

Samsung A515F unlocked TPA to AT&T USA, what to expect?

I'd like to get Wifi calling, Visual Voicemail, and 4g on an unlocked A515F.
As of now the phone reports itself as this:
Baseband A51FXXU3BTH5
Service provider (stuff) TPA TPA TPA TPA
Network AT&T
Moble network state disconnected
Service in service
IMS not registered
Mobile voice LTE
Mobile data LTE
VoLTE seems to be on? I thought this doesn't work on unlocked phones.
Being new to this the providers are all over the map on all kinds of stuff regarding unlocked phones. (AT&T rant I'm sure many of you have been here Grrrr.)
Network mode auto is LTE/3G/2G, there is no 4G option (as I believe in my research is how it is with unlocked phones)
So, I suppose the question is, if I follow the steps outlined in this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a51/how-to/guide-how-to-change-csc-a51-t4129243
and flash the AT&T firmware, will I get 4G, Visual voicemail, and WiFi calling? As well as whatever the heck ATT disables for unlocked devices.
Will this require another trip to the store and a 4G SIM put in there?
New to this, but I have tried to research this as much as I could. Thanks for all the info.
Steve
Forum?
Have I put this in the wrong sub forum? Should it be in the firmware flashing forum?
First don't need to flash anything unless you want to waste your time with bloatware.
What you have to look into for your service desires, is do you have wifi in your service plan? If yes, did you activate it on the A51 you are using? (Also make sure your sim card is sim 1)
Also you don't have to use any provider's visual voicemail to get it for your phone. I've used YouMail for about 2 decades.
As far as lte & 4G. My phone is from same csc TPA TPA/TPA. I've seen both 4G & 4G LTE on my service. So your question about that was a little vague. But U.S. providers (at&t or tmo) won't tell you 90% of the time that you have to get 4G LTE sim card & pay for a 4G LTE service plan on order to get it.
Thanks for the reply.
It's sim 1. IMS not registered my be the issue, ill call ATT tomorrow.
I've been able to get visual voicemail back by installing the APK. The play store says it is not compatible with my device, APK was fine. I will check and try what you suggested.
Yeah, it might get a few chuckles here but i've had a S5 for years, and replaced it 3 times with ebay s5's. Love it. Initally i just popped my old iphone 4 sim in there and used it forever. I never had wifi calling and when i attempted to enable it it said the sim was the problem.
Imagine my surprise after going to the store and getting the proper sim i see the 4g icon appear and wifi calling, etc. All these were ATT firmware phones, on power the logo pops up, bloatware, etc on the S5's. Miss it already. What am i going to do with all these batteries and chargers?
This has been a different thing. Being in the States, not traveling overseas (at this time i believe no one will have us anyway) and this unlocked phone. As far as bloatware goes, its still kinda there in one way or another. Clicking on a link within chrome forces samsung internet every once in a while. Yeah, there is no real extra stuff on the device as it is. Its just weird.
Getting a sim for this at the store took a little more time then I thought it would. The employee was checking out the phone for a little longer then just handing me a sim.
I've changed the APN, possibly to the incorrect settings, to get 4g and wifi calling bacK. But that seemed to knock out any mobile data. Granted I may have entered the wrong settings. I'll look for others.
What's really confusing is the lack of these things. Is this phone cabible of 4g in the hardware? Wifi calling seems to be a forced ATT unlocked thing.
Sorry, long winded. This article states that when I am seeing the 3g lte it is really 4g.
Egads, link without 10 posts wont let happen. It's the B&H photo article regarding unlocked phones.
The wireless calling is not happening. Is this inherent to unlocked phones on ATT? VoLTE is on as far as the settings tell me. I'll poke around some more.
Many thanks
Steve
4g was on the S5 so i would assume it was part of the plan. Switching to the nano sim A51 should not knock that out.
I've read so many posts here, as i know my questions are pretty basic compared to other discussions, so thanks again.

Yeah, I just bricked it ish. Tried the A51U-1 At&T firmware USA. I'm downloading the Italian Samsung firmware to get it back I hope. "Only official binaries are allowed".
The phone was in emergency mode and showing the PIT error with the A51U1 firmware.
The Italian firmware set uploaded fine. Now only it only shows a white circle with the little lightning bolt inside if connected to a usb cable. Computer wont recognize it. Resetting it vol down and power/bixby key turns the display off for a sec but it comes right back to the same thing. This is bricked huh. Any ideas?
Holy cow I held the vol down buxby bixby button down as I removed the usb cable I am getting the factory data reset screen. Maybe there is hope.
Yeah same thing again. If anyone has this issue you can at least get back to factory reset by holding the buttons and quickly yanking the USB cable out when the charging logo disappears.
-edit again
Recovery mode vol down + power. When it blanks keep the power button down and push vol up.
I wonder what to try in the choices.
Wipe cache?
Reboot to bootloader?
Im looking at the last log there is a whole lot going on. At about 80% of it is shows a ******FILE SYSTEM MODIFIED****, then it looks like its setting the octal permissions on a bunch of stuff, then it looks like it cant find /etc/firmware/calliope_sram.bin and from a bunch of other places in the filesystem.
After about 87% it looks like it is basically describing how it is displaying the recovery mode screen.
Displayed is samsung/a51nsxx/a5111/RP1A.200720.012/A51FXXU4EUC8
The phone came as an A51F. Was trying to flash to A51U1(ATT).
-Edit again.
I have hope for this but I am aware I am a flippin second from bricking the device. Any input is highly appreciated.

looks like is TPA for Panama, Downloading firmware through Samsung firmware downloader. But I would like the USA ATT firmware so I can have 4g and wifi calling. OMG Im gonna brick this thing.
Reboot computer and phone reboots into Cyrillic I find this rather funny at this point. But it is the phone setup screen and routine.
edit-- Hilarious. Didn't even install the Panama TPA firmware unless Samsung Firmware Downloader did it by itself while I was taking a nap. Cyrillic boot? looks like it is on the network at least I think can talk to someone been a lonely couple of days.
edit again== This is a linux computer that can make phone calls. WTF is the deal here. Really? All this stuff? I'm exploring all the custom ROMs and whatnot here in the forums. All I wanted was 4G and wifi calling. That is what my S5 did and I loved it. The S5. Flippin old phone but a fun one. Thousands of dollars to ATT over the years and they wont turn this phone to 4g on for me?
Thanks for everyone that has put effort into this that is amazing I really cant thank you enough.
edit yet again. Maybe flashing the firmware I have to wait for a couple of hours for it to fire up? I am assuming everything I am doing is wrong.
Can do... https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/guide-how-to-change-csc-on-a51.4129243/

Welp, getting the 3G going away feb 2022 messages from ATT even though it does display the little 4G icon at times. Called Att they say they can see the imei. They say sending a new phone. Not an a51 who knows. Most likely some thing that up the account to $100 a month.
Be warned the you will loose everything is real on firmware flashing but weird. Thought i copied the entire filesysyem but things dropped out
.
This is an old model phone so i understand and my first shot at flashing it. Probably try again as i think i did not flash the u1 correctly. Still can talk, text, whatever. Frustrating, old phone, who cares.
Ah they sent me a S10e for free no complaints. Ill try the att a51 firmware again nothing to loose at this point see what happens and follow the guides.

SM-G970U Refuses to Work on Carrier Network

So, I have an S10e (SM-G970U) that was bought from Verizon a while back. The phone was set up on a Verizon post-paid plan, but was later switched to prepaid. The phone worked fine for months, but about a week ago, the phone randomly stopped making and receiving calls, texts, and the ability to use mobile data. It was taken to Verizon, and they tried "all they could" in their words, which included a new SIM card, resetting network settings, and eventually a factory reset from settings. Nothing seemed to work, and they gave up, claiming it "seemed like a bad antenna." They did call their "tech support" who claimed the most recent Android 11 update supposedly caused an issue with mobile network connection with the Verizon S10e devices, which I haven't heard of, but didn't know. He claimed a reset would fix it.
Since none of that fixed it, it was taken to a shop to be inspected. They claim the phone has nothing wrong with it. So, that, in theory, rules hardware issues out. Their only claim was that when an AT&T SIM was inserted, it was able to connect to the network, but never tried to make any calls due to the SIM not being activated. I assume this is due to someone trying to "help" inserting an activated AT&T SIM into the slot when testing, which I assume ended up installing the carrier branded version of the firmware. They gave a couple possible reasons, but neither seemed to make sense.
Since it had the AT&T bloatware and was working with only AT&T SIMs, I decided to flash both the VZW G970U firmware (the earliest version I could to ensure the supposed "issue" from Verizon support wasn't a problem) and the G970U1 firmware. Both firmware flashes have seemed to have done nothing, as the phone is still having the issue. Most times, it will connect to the Verizon network, but the signal seems to rise and fall quickly (like the bars going from 5 to 1 to 3).. Still no calls, texts, or data, though. I have no idea what's going on, at this point, honestly. Any ideas?

If the people it was taken to were competent and did their jobs correctly (one of the best around, according to reviews and carrier recommendation), their diagnostic results show no hardware damage to the phone. Then again, their explanation for the problem was that it had been locked to ATT network (a Verizon bought phone that never had any affiliation with another carrier, aside from Verizon and a month-long stint with Straight Talk). Some idiot she knows that used to work for a Verizon retailer popped his ATT SIM in there, and it flashed ATT firmware.. Their POSSIBLE solution was to try and have it network unlocked from ATT. As we know, though, the IMEI obviously did not change, and the process of confirming the identifier is done on the mobile network level. Therefore, flashing a different carrier's firmware won't do much (permanently), aside from changing the boot screen and bloatware apps. We even tried to explain to the guy that the ATT SIM had never been popped in until after the problem began, as there was no reason to beforehand. I also mentioned I had flashed firmware multiple times before I ever came to him, to no avail. I should've pushed harder, but I had been out all day, frustrated and ready to go home.
It's been over a month since that issue began, and I haven't thought much of it lately.. We've since found her a new phone (and stowed the other one in a drawer). Those guys did blurt some moronic statements.. In hindsight, I'm not too sure I should trust their judgement after hearing what I did. Maybe it was an antenna issue or otherwise hardware, but I sort of assumed if anyone can happen to keep a repair shop open, they'd at least be able to complete the simple tasks fairly easy. I don't know. I'm not paying another repair shop to find out, though.
I had a very similar problem where my phone would just randomly lose all connection for about a minute, then it would reconnect I would start doing whatever I was and it would do it again and this one on for months. I took it to AT&t and they told me to replace the SIM which I did and it didn't work. after a couple updates it fixed itself.

T-Mobile Note 10 Plus 5G

I unlocked my note 10+ 5g from t-mobile, but it won't get service with verizon.
When I install a non-tmobile sim, the software does not switch from tmobile for some reason.
Also Sam Mobile only has t-mobile and metro pcs firmware availible for the sm-n976u
Does anyone know if there is a way to get the phone working with verizon? Thanks.
-God Bless
Try clearing Sim card tool kit data.
Network reset.
Clear system cache.
Edit Access point names to correct values.
That's all I got but sure there's more. Never had use more than the above but never changed carriers. Verizon advanced tech support should be able to help... AT&T would.
The Verizon Note 10+ 5G has a different model number. So they probably won't allow the T-Mobile/Metro/AT&T version on their network

I think you're correct. AT&T is compatible with Tmobile but not Verizon according to B&H Photo compatibility charts.
So it look like AT&T is in your future. AT&T is easier to deal with anyway. Do not use a corporate store though, use over the phone or online AT&T.
It may be possible to change out the C port PCB for the Verizon variant. Yes that PCB controls internet access. I can't confirm this is the only difference though! That PCB is only $20 and relatively easy to change out.

It's gets service with att, but it still has the tmobile boot logo. I flashed the att rom, but it didn't help. The carrier is supposed to automatically switch when you insert a different sim card right?

It's actually super difficult to hard brick a Qualcomm device, and even if it is hard bricked and only enters EDL mode, it can be fixed as long as you have the correct files.
There are too many safeguards in place between Qualcomm and Samsung - the average user will always be blocked from doing anything that would brick a device. There's really no danger in flashing firmware whatsoever

I'm trying to use it with att because it won't get service with verizon at all.
It's very annoying having the tmobile bloatware. Also it should be compatible with att's 5g, but it only gets lte.

My method doesn't involve root, no. You can't root if you've taken an OTA update in March of this year or later
I hope I can be of some help.
I recently ordered a Note 10+ 5G - Locked Verizon from a popular online re-seller. When I turned it on, I was greeted with an AT&T boot logo. I was pretty upset, but I though I'd try to get it up and running on Verizon before spending a couple weeks sending it back and getting a replacement. I tried Verizon's online software and I couldn't get beyond the IMEI change. It kept telling me that the Note's IMEI was what I was already using with my Droid, which was obviously not the case. So, I headed into my local Verizon store.
Nothing they did would get my 4G SIM to work, so they swapped out for a 5G SIM for free, then switched my hardware IMEI numbers and proceeded to have a some difficulty getting on the network. After doing a network reset, it seemingly worked. More on that below. I was getting both data and voice over network. I was able to transfer my setting, apps, etc from my Motorola Droid with Samsung Switch. The phone indicates both 3G and 4G signals as I travel around town. 5G is not available in my immediate area, though it is in some cities I occasionally travel to, but I'm unable to test that just yet. I become aware that there are differences between Verizon's 5G and other networks and it seems the non-Verizon phone I have is probably for the best in terms of compatibility.
Unfortunately, texts frequently take 10-30 seconds to send. Images, gifs and other non-text MMS can take multiple minutes to send and sometimes just fail. Other times the recipient will receive them twice. I feel like this may be due to the poor coverage at my residence. Further testing in areas of good to excellent coverage are necessary. I tried changing the network settings from Settings > Connections > Mobile Networks > Network Mode, but anything other than the default "GLOBAL" would result in a disconnect of data and voice services. The only way to fix it was Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This would restore the Mode to GLOBAL and bring back data and voice services.
In an effort to remove the AT&T branding, I learned how to trigger a carrier switch, dialed the code and changed it from AT&T to XAA. That got rid of the AT&T boot animation and I was able to remove all but 2 stubborn AT&T apps. I noticed that my android version was 10 and UI was 2.5, so I set out to update.
This is where things got frustrating. Every attempt to update through the settings > software update was met with failure. Try again in 24 hours, it would say. I assumed this was because I was now using a Verizon sim on an AT&T firmware, but I wasn't sure. I thought I might be able to flash to a Verizon firmware, but after several versions and some more research, I learned that going from 976U to 976V was not possible.
So, over the course of several days, I learned a lot. I looked up the firmware releases on AT&T's website for the 976U and saw that they matched the T-Mobile and MetroPCS versions. So, I settled on a T-Mobile version of Android 11 / UI 3.1. It updated without any issues and even remained in XAA mode. No bloatware, no loading images, all settings and apps the same.
So, even though I have an unlocked AT&T Note 10+ 5G 256GB and you have a T-Mobile, the fact that we both have a 976U model, I think there is hope for you to get up and running on Verizon.
Hope this has helped.

Data but No Phone?

I have a brand-new rooted and LineageOS modded Motorola One 5G Ace. Ever since the 3G shutoff, most of my family has been having problems with their phones - except for my son and his old Moto G4+ - his phone works perfectly. I expected the purchase of this phone, which was on the AT&T whitelist would solve the issues that I was having but that was not the case - this phone is still having the same problems. I even tried switching carriers (it would probably work if I went with AT&T directly but they're WAY too expensive) but it seems that no matter what I do, I can't call.
Now here is the interesting bit.
My carrier's access point gives me data but no phone.
Switching to any AT&T access point with the MMSC set to http://mmsc.mobile.att.net gives me phone, but no data. SMS is still available.
My carrier's tech support and I tried a lot of different things without success
Has anyone overcome this issue?
Sidenote - switching the MMSC to https://mmsc.mobile.att.net and the MMS port to 8080 works but data seems slower.

OK, so the answer seems to be the auto (PRL) selection in the "Set Preferred Network Type" list - except, on my phone, auto (PRL) doesn't show up for any entries other than GSM/WCDMA (dial *#*#4636#*#* and go to Phone Info). My son has LTE in his list. There must be a file somewhere on the phone with the preferred network types ...
you never mentioned where you got the phone (direct from att or 3rd party) or the precise model number.
was pondering getting this phone to help parents having to turn off LTE after the att 3g fiasco started, because att is their only coverage option
(stupid att refuses to enable VoLTE for many devices including their moto x4 devices, which would work fine on tmo if they had coverage, and running current LOS)

Sorry. Phone is an XT2113-2 purchased directly from Motorola. Also, I was mistaken - the preferred network type needs to be set to "GSM/WCDMA preferred". I set the phone to what I listed above but the phone reset itself to that setting and it works. I suspect that once AT&T straightens everything out, you'll need to switch it to something else if it's not done automatically.
I found this phone at the top of the AT&T Whitelist for Motorola phones, which is one of the reasons I bought it. I refuse to get a Samsung or any other phone where the company goes out of its way to prevent people from unlocking the bootloader.
Well, I came across this little tidbit on the AT&T Community Forums.
The pertinent post is this one by Centarus3200:
Type this code into your keypad.
*#*#4636#*#*
If under "phone information", VOLTE is grayed out and you can't turn it on, ATT has blocked your phone's IMEI from being provisioned for 4G voice calls.
You can try to convince advanced tech support to provision your phone for VOLTE, but they'll either stall you out on an endless circle (Edited per community guidelines) or basically tell you to go (Edited per community guidelines) an egg (meaning buy a new phone from them).
Unnoficially, ATT will NOT provision any unlocked phone for VOLTE. Period.
Yes, even if it's on their whitelist. They just wanted to screw you into a corner first with that lie.
There are several vendors selling unlocked phones for use with their networks. If these phones are able to achieve LTE / 5G coverage, it must be due to one of the following reasons:
Best case (and unlikeliest scenario) - the IMEI of all phones sold by the carrier has been registered with AT&T and will be allowed on their network - that would allow modding of the phone since the IMEI is not changed during modding.
The "unlocked" phone has been modified somehow to AT&T specs so that it will be allowed on the network. This would mean modding the phone would get rid of the modification so a modded phone would lose coverage.
Worst case - AT&T can detect the OS fingerprint of the phone. If this changes when the bootloader is unlocked, that would mean that AT&T can detect phones with unlocked bootloaders.
Sadly, I am returning my brand new phone to Motorola - I don't have the technical savvy to deal with this. It would require some wizard over at LineageOS to overcome this hurdle.

thanks for confirming.
i suspected that ATT would continue being excessively fascist, capitalist pigs, with their whitelist extortion racket of VoLTE certification fees from manufacturers...
no point in getting this 2021 bootloader unlockable device to use with LOS (since moto hasn't upgraded os from 10 for most variants) if my parents are stuck on 3.5G H+ mode anyway.
please file both an FCC and FTC complaint against ATT for their anti-consumer, anti-competitive, and anti-environment VoLTE whitelist policy hidden under the claims of "3g shutdown".

Well, I wouldn't say capitalist. Capitalists would be interested in maximizing their profits and would avoid restrictions. Monopolists and mercantilists, certainly but capitalists get a bad rap.
I won't be filing a complaint. AT&T is a merchantilist concern in cahoots with the government agencies mentioned. Anything I do will be flatly ignored. The best approach is the market approach - circumvent their restrictions and make them look foolish.
ATT is apparently doing just fine on the capitalist front, my parents are pretty ready to just give up on android and keep saying let's just buy an iphone because never had calling problems with them, so... i'm sure plenty other folks stuck with ATT are just buying off their whitelist from ATT, more profit from lack of choices.
Here is the story so far ...
3G Shutdown - Consumer Cellular is bought out by AT&T so all their phones are locked now.
Purchased a Motorola One 5G Ace from Motorola, unlocked the bootloader and installed LineageOS.
Moved my service to Pure Talk - no 4G.
Tried to go to Mint Mobile but there is no real T-Mobile coverage in my town.
Gave up and sent back the Ace to Motorola. Decided to purchase a phone directly from the provider.
Did some research and found that the only company offering Motorola phones on the AT&T network is Patriot Mobile - Purchased a Moto G Play from them. Decided not to unlock the bootloader quite yet but got the unlock key from Motorola.
There was some issues with activating the phone so I put my Pure Talk SIM in the phone and was able to access the 4G network.
Made myself a developer on the phone and tried to turn on OEM Unlocking - not able to do it.
Today, I ironed out the issues with Patriot Mobile activated the service and put my Patriot Mobile SIM card in. Now I can turn on OEM Unlocking.
Observations: It appears that the provider SIM card is able to control whether or not OEM Unlocking can be turned on. It also appears that the provider SIM card can detect if OEM Unlocking is on or off and either send that info to the provider, limit band access or, possibly, penalize the user in other ways.
What to Do: I plan on leaving the OEM Unlocking switch in the ON position for a week and monitor for 4G coverage. If everything looks good, I will then unlock the bootloader and wait for another week. If that goes well, I will purchase another 5G Ace and see how that goes.

I unlocked the bootloader without loss of service today. I'll be reordering my Moto One 5G Ace today along with a phone for my daughter. Looks like Patriot Mobile is going to let people on the AT&T network with unlocked phones. I sent an email to the company CEO and thanked him.

Downloaded the recovery files today with the Motorola recovery tool and tried using Magisk to modify the boot image - it failed. I may try to load Magisk from recovery. There is no "official" TWRP recovery but both /e/ foundation and LineageOS have their own recoveries that can be flashed or run from fastboot.
Update 20220614 15:01 EST: I successfully rooted the phone through /e/ foundation recovery using Magisk 25.0. TopJohnWu has rewritten the whole thing V25 is currently in beta but I read through the notes and I felt more confident with this version. After root, I was able to get 5G data and send and receive phone calls just fine. Next step is to load /e/ ROM onto the phone. I am confident that I can recover using the Motorola recovery tool if things go south.
The TWRP on the Telegram channel works. I am using it.

Were you able to load it under a custom ROM? That was my issue - couldn't get TWRP to load regardless of whether I had flashed it to recovery or booted into it via fastboot.

I flashed it with fastboot to recovery_a and recovery_b. I then rebooted to system, then turned the phone off, rebooted to fastboot, selected recovery and it booted.

Yes. Assuming you have renamed the downloaded file "twrp.img".

A link to the TWRP you are using? I do believe there's a beta version somewhere here on the forum ... Aaah. It's for the kiev -3. I have a XT2113-2 - probably explains why it won't work on my phone.
