Umidigi F1 - questions and missing Pie functions - General Questions and Answers

Hi Everyone!
So, I decided to take a gamble in buying an Umidigi F1 phone and it just arrived.
Playing with it, it has android pie (supposedly clean, but i'll come to that) yet appears to be missing some features
Basically, I'm missing:
Gestures - the section is there but only two options and not the change in home button
Home Setting - hitting the desktop only gives wallpapers and widgets, no home settings
So, can anyone tell me why these are missing and how I get them - being that they're both software features of android pie and this is supposedly the latest version of (5 Jan 2019 security patch), I'm a little confused!
Thanks

Gotcha, but they don't really answer the question
Question 1 was, why am i missing the OFFICIAL built in gestures for Android pie (i.e. swiping the central button)
Question 2 is why am i missing the home setting button which enables the AI learning to show different things in the drawer (new Pie feature)

Maybe Umidigi changed it. They aren't on Android One program, they don't have to keep it stock Android.
It's already a bonus there isn't a heavy skin and bloatware.

There is some bloat (a notes app and flashlight) but yeah
Also finding some other oddities - e.g phone app is stock, but stuck on an old version and actually doesn't match the stock I had on my old phone so can't be updated

What's the status of the bootloader on these devices? Is it already unlocked?

No idea on bootloader
Managed to get v26 of the Google Dialler with bubbles to replace dialer. Looking for better camera app now

Have you managed to find a better camera app? I've been looking for an equivalent phone from
https://www.xda-developers.com/google-camera-port-hub/
but can't seem to find one.
I had a system update pretty early on and I've got gestures working on my F1. Have you been able to resolve this issue? If not, maybe try searching for system updates from the phone.

I was doing exactly the same. Tried every port (or at least I believe I did) from that thread of Google camera and not getting anything working sadly
Other camera apps aren't doing much for me!
The stock one is fine but I occasionally get done colour washing
Re. Gestures, thats interesting. I've not had an update that gives me that option and searching doesn't find anything

I do have that Gestures setting but the one you mentioned where you swipe up to go home/back etc is in Smart Assistant > Buttons and its called Slippery Gesture.
I've had some joy with Google Camera as well! Try this: -
https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidQue...ny_google_camera_mods_out_yet_for_umidigi_z2/
Its for the Z2 but it installed fine for me.

Ah, no, the one I mentioned should be in the screen I showed (it is on my MiA1, and is where all the pie guides list it) - it's slightly different to the one you list (which I'm guessing is something custom for Umidigi or a precursor perhaps!)
That camera works for me, thanks for the link, but it's a really old version on Google Camera (2.4!), and I'm not sure it's adding much over the stock. In fact doesn't seem to be any way to get to the gallery even from it unless I'm being dim!
Will keep holding out for a port of the latest Google camera that works!

You get to the gallery by swiping from the right but I'd have to agree with you that it doesn't improve the image quality, which I'm pretty impressed with in all fairness. The Panorama and Photo Sphere is pretty good though, but I don't see me using those much. I'd be really interested if you do manage to find a worthwhile camera app, so please post if you do. I read somewhere that 'A Better Camera' app is pretty good, even if it does sound crap but haven't tried yet.
Good luck finding the Gestures you want. Strangely the 'Slippery Gestures' I mentioned doesn't show up in a search, so maybe what your looking for is hidden there somewhere; albeit not where it should be

Umidigi phones are unlockable out of the box with just the OEM unlock command via ADB/Fastboot, and while I haven't seen it confirmed, odds are that this phone is no different.
The real question is going to be whether we see any development for it on XDA. I'm seriously considering buying an F1, but since you really can't rely on first-party software updates for these Chinese no-name devices, I'm holding off to see if it gets some love here on XDA.

Right. I have unlocked it with adb..... Fastboot flashing unlock.
There is Twrp and decrypted zip file, but this seems dont work. When reboot to system phone are encrypted and magisk flashed without error in twrp dont work in the Rom

I never even noticed these things. I did, however, look into it and found the following.
1. Quick settings only pulls down from lockscreen when you use the slider
2. I haven't ever really tried to have a seperate wallpaper for my lockscreen, but the only options I noticed available now is for transparency of the lockscreen.
I will look into applying the same settings (disabling quick settings) the other lockscreen options have for the slider option.
Thanks for your input.
Low call volume
Thanks for your hard work. I have been on this rom for a few months now and love it. It keeps getting better over time. I noticed however that the phones speaker isn't as loud as usual on this latest build. It's really odd. I use Viper4Android Fx instead of DSPManager. I wonder if it has something to do with that. Otherwise, the build is solid overall. Just a few reboots, but that's common on my phone so for with any rom.
EDIT: Actually found the cause. I never knew that there were different volumes for in call. I accidentally stumbled upon it while on a call. The volume was set low for some reason, I don't make a lot of calls normally so this was odd for the volume to change. Oh well, all is good now. Awesome rom! 10/10 in my opinion

Happy to hear that you were able to figure it out on your own.
scott.hart.bti is the main one putting in all of the hard work. I'm just building it for our device, and trying to merge a few changes of my own here and there, based on the feedback that I receive here; which, to be honest, hasn't been much. 200+ downloads from goo.im on the latest build and only two comments. I have to logically assume that lack of feedback means everything is operating as it should.

Oh yeah. I swap between CM11 and this, and Beanstalk is much better. Even using the Torched KK kernel, CM11 isn't performing well for me. Yeah Scott is doing a awesome job, but your help is appreciated as well. I know time is money/family/sleep among other other mundane obligations, so it's nice to have a dedicated maintainer despite having lives. Thanks a lot :good:
Quick question, does this have an option for the battery bar? I see it's a feature in the ROP OP, but can't seem to find it on my phone. I also can't seem to connect via ADB. I just rooted two other One Xs the other day, so I don't think it's my computer, but I'm gonna check later tonight with the other phones. Otherwise, great Rom, and keep up the good work!
There's no option for battery bar on this ROM. Do you have usb debugging enabled in Developer Options? You also need to grant root access to apps & adb.

Where do I do that? Nothing has come up that I'm aware of to grant root for that. I also just tested it with another phone, ADB is working for it. (JB ROM)
The option is right there in Developer Options, just above the usb debugging option.

I believe that there is a xposed module that allows you to put a battery bar at the top or bottom of your screen.

does anyone know how to/ if its possible to enable bln?
Trickster Mod from the Play Store can be used to enable bln, but it has to be supported by your kernel.
I use the most recent version of Torched.

Would someone with an older version of BeanStalk please try the BeanStalk OTA app now? I think I may have corrected the issue with the app detecting the older versions of the ROM!
Edit: Already confirmed working. Now I just need to figure out how we are doing our Gapps, so that we can keep up to date.

Hi everyone!
If you happen to be a fan of split-window mode in Android Nougat, there is a good chance that may find this nifty tools App that I have been working on - Parallel Windows for Nougat (Android 7.0 Nougat exclusive)
What it does? 3 things as of now:
#1 Provide an onscreen shortcut to toggle split-screen
#2 Quickly launch any new App in split-screen mode through a floating mini App drawer.
#3 Mirror an App!
YES! You can run two Windows of an App, two windows of almost any App on a phone but MANY windows of an App on tablet, as seen on the screenshots above.
The set of tools can be accessed by swiping from right edge of the screen, couple of screenshots of the App:
Here is a video demo (please note that it's on an emulator, expect some lags here and there.) In case you're only interested in checking out how the mirroring of App works, jump to 03:14 in the video. And if anybody can shoot a quality video, please do and upload to this thread.
Please subscribe, share the link of this thread with your Nexus friends (running Android Nougat.)
Thank you for going through my post.
DOWNLOAD OPTIONS:
Download from Google Play Store (Receive updates automatically)
If you like the App, please leave a rating on Google Play Store.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION AND SOME IMPORTANT NOTES ON THE APP IS LEFT ON THE THIRD POST.
What's changed/new in v2.1_Alpha:
* The white background of "RECENT ACTIVITY" panel is now toned down.
* Recent activity removes Apps which are uninstalled.
* Added/changed UI texts wherever needed.
What's changed/new in v2.0_Alpha:
* Significant improvement in the UI controls, you should feel everything super snappy now.
* App drawer now supports fast scrolling.
* You can now adjust the placement of the hotspot to trigger Parallel Windows side bar - length, width, location (up/down/left/right.)
* A new panel is now available, 'RECENT ACTIVITY' - whichever App you launch/mirror using Parallel Windows, goes here. This panel will have more additions in future - shortcut to launch multiple Apps, widgets etc.
What's changed/new in v1.2_Alpha:
* The App is now battery ready - uses CPU for only the few seconds when you interact with it.
What's changed/new in v1.1_Alpha:
* The floating App drawer should be super responsive now.
* After swiping in left the tools menu, you can tap anywhere on the screen to exit (earlier you had to swipe back to the right.)
* Added quick sharing option.
If you have an interesting use case for the 'mirror' feature on a particular App, please post a screenshot of your phone/tablet. I will include them here to showcase.
Installation instruction and important notes on the app
THE SET-UP:
Download the .apk and proceed with standard installation.
Launch the App, read through the notes, check off boxes, hit 'continue'.
In the main Settings page, hit the first switch 'Permit to draw over other Apps', it will take you to a new page, enable the permission and hit back.
Again, in the main Settings page, click the second switch 'Enable Accessibility Service', you will be take to the Accessibility Services menu, choose "Parallel Windows for Nougat" from the list, and enable it.
[OPTIONAL] Go back to the Settings page, adjust the width and height of the hotspot (the hotspot region will be highlighted with every change.)
HOW TO USE:
Once everything is set-up, you can swipe from the middle of right edge of your screen to open the menu.
The menu has 3 buttons, starting from top they are: App Drawer, Split Screen Toggle and Mirror respectively.
Clicking the middle button (Split Screen Toggle) will, well, toggle the split-screen mode of your device.
The top most button (App Drawer,) will let you open a App drawer right on your screen. Clicking any App here will launch it side-by-side to your existing App. If your device is already in split-screen mode, then there is no gurantee on which side of the screen will the App launch. Also, one important thing to keep in mind is, this App drawer is exclusive to launch Apps side by side, it will NOT open any App in normal full screen.
The third button is called 'Mirror'. 'Parallel Windows' for Nougat is totally inspired by the magical functionality of this button. More about it in the next section.
THE MIRROR:
CASE 1: You're not in split-screen mode. Now, if you swipe from right, hit the Mirror button, it will ask you to "Select an App to mirror". You can tap anywhere on the background App that is visible through the transcluent black area. Clicking it will mirror the App, give it a few seconds to complete the process.
CASE 2: You're already in split-screen mode and you want to mirror one of the two windows (or many incase of tablets.) Again, swipe from right, hit the mirror button, tap on the App which you want to mirror, visible through the translucent black window.
There is small probability that the Mirroring didn't do its job well. In that case, you can just try again. If it doesn't work the second time either, and you really need to mirror the particular App, all you have to do is, close all other Apps, and try mirroring on the App again (it should work almost certainly.)
Do note that, not all the Apps are mirrorable. Parallel Windows will indeed let you know if it can not mirror a particular App. In most of the cases, if you think an App has a use for mirroring then most likely it will be available for mirroing.
Looks awesome
This is how I've been saying Samsungs multi window should be toggled for years! Looks great!
What I always wanted was split window in LANDSCAPE that showed 2 or 3 windows scaled as if it's 3 full screens. Like 3 devices. Smaller keyboard, smaller phone app, but clear enough on these super high res screens we have.

Hello everyone!
The App is finally up! I spent countless hours, continuously day and night for so many days now to arrive at this Alpha version. Hope it works as good as it does on my emulator. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Fun fact: The development of this App was entirely based on an Android emulator. Because I don't have a Nexus. So, if you downloaded the App first and installed on an Android Nougat device, you're probably the first person every to try this App on a real device. Are you the one? Let me know

Well i don't have a Nexus, but i guess i am the first one to download it on my AOSP 7.0.
The app works exactly as you described. Didn't find any bug yet but hey i'm using it since last 5 mins. I don't usually do reviews but i left you one on Google Play Store (actually my first one). I hope you get a real device to develop.
Kudos! Keep up the amazing work.
EDIT: The Sidebar closing animations are a bit laggy. I have some suggestions:
1. Clicking on the empty space to close the sidebar rather than dragging it back.
2. Change sidebar hotspot positions to user defined places on either right or left edge of the screen.
I know this app is still in alpha but just my two cents. I'll go back to lurking now.

Also, your suggestions are much appreciated. The sidebar opening may 'feel' laggy, as it waits for the user's swipe to complete from hotspot towards left. But closing should absolutely be smooth, can you clarify that? Or if it's really a visible lag, a small 3 seconds screencast would help me clarify a lot.
And as the development progresses, the hotspot will be super customizable. I have intentionally kept it super minimal to get some quick feedback on the core features.
I have quite a bunch of real exciting features planned for future versions, now if only I can slow down time.

I just tried it again. It could be due to OmniSwitch. I have OmniSwitch assigned on the same place too with double swipe. I'll try again tomorrow and send you a screencast if it happens. I've to go to sleep now. Like you said its 03:30 am here and i got a job to do tomorrow.

Fingerprint Lock - Android Pie

I know its early on, but since this has been in place since early beta, I'm hoping there is an actual app by now...
Has anyone found an app (not a Tasker mod) to use the fingerprint scanner to lock the screen that uses the new code, and hence does not disable the fingerprint scanner for unlocking?
This was the big letdown coming from a Moto g5 to the pixel 2. Hoping it can now work exsctly the same.
Thanks!

yep, coming from op3t, that feature should be on stock android. its annoying for me to glance at the notification by pressing power button to sleep the phone. i think atm there is no app that could do that without root. with root there are many alternatives.

Root is required? Akk. From what I read I thought it would be (relatively) as simple as hitting a different (new) GLOBAL_ACTION_LOCK_SCREEN API instead of the Device Admin API. Of course... Google. They don't do things right, they just do them halfway, so you fee like it could be right. I think they secretly like the impression that they built up hope and then let their customer base down. Lol.
Thanks.

my mistake, idk about (new) GLOBAL_ACTION_LOCK_SCREEN API before this. Anyway i just tried on nova launcher beta, yep, now can assign lock screen to any gesture. it uses the new screen lock method that supported by android P now.
and here an app that i found also support android P. But it is a paid app, i tried and it works.

Awesome. Thanks!
This looks like it needs Tasker. Never used that before but I went ahead and purchased it. Figured out how to set the task to the lock app, but I cant figure out how to set up a trigger. Seems to be the profile tab, but I dont see anything that is fingerprint sensor there. Could you point me in the right direction? Thanks.
EDIT: I think I figured it out. TouchTask app. I like pressing the button, so I just set every direction. Best I could get.
EDIT2: Found out how to set a vibrate to occur right before screen off to get the same haptic feedback from screen on. Thanks again! [emoji846]

mrdoug, would you mind sharing the steps you used to make TouchTask and Tasker lock the screen using the fingerprint reader? Much appreciated!
Here's the base steps I figured out. I had to go back and try to recreate it.
Personally, I didn't find Tasker easy to use at all...very unintuitive for me, at least. Hopefully this is everything. I dont have the vibrate part in there... I need to recreate that, first. Hope to post shortly for you.
One word of caution... I found this somewhat tempormental ... it doesn't work on occasion, for no good reason I can discern. Maybe one of the apps necessary is closed to save memory? I don't know. Still, until I find an all inclusive app using the new API, this is the best I could do myself. I literally program nothing... No knowledge whatsoever. This was very new to me.
For the setup I created, you need three apps:
1. Tasker
2. TouchTask (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.balda.touchtask)
3. Screen Locker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivianuu.screenlocker)
In Tasker...
A. Create a Task:
1. In the Task Tab
2. Select the + in the bottom right corner to Create new task
3. Name it
4. Select the + in the bottom right corner to add a new action
5. select plugin...
6. Choose screen lock app
7. Tap the config pencil (upper right)
8. Choose back arrow (twice?)
9. The new task should appear in the main screen
B. Create a Profile
1. Got the profile tab
2. Select the + to add new trigger
3. select event
4. choose plugin
5. choose touchtask app
6. Choose fingerprint gestures
7. Choose pencil icon to edit
8. Select all option you want (I set all directions, personally)
9. Select check mark upper right to save
10. Back arrow to main window
11. Popup will appear asking what task to link it to... Select the screen lock initially created
If anyone has any suggestions to improve this... Or better yet, an all inclusive app, let me know.
Hope this helps (and actually works for you... Again, I'm in uncharted territory here).
Edit: To add the vibrate just go into the tasks tab, select the one you created for the screen off, and press the plus in the bottom corner to add a new action. Select alert and then Select vibrate. When you fine tune the duration to your preference, simply move vibrate before lock screen in the list. That's it.

Thank you, mrdoug, for providing very clear, detailed instructions for integrating TouchTask, Tasker and Screen Locker. I was able to lock my screen using the fingerprint reader. Seems to function very similar to the paid app Fingerprint Action Pro, which is also Pie-compatible. The best Oreo fingerprint app, Fingerprint Quick Action, hasn't been updated yet for Pie.
Surprise! I found this a few minutes ago...

Anyone with Android P try this? Any word on how the fingerprint lock function works? Unfortunately it's an IAP, so I'm hesitant to buy it without any knowledge of it's quality. Maybe I'll email the developer.

So glad you posted that. Was hoping someone had tried it.

Automagic, IMHO, is much easier to use (and some say more functional) than Tasker and can do what you want (if I've understood the ask correctly) with no add-ons and a very simple 'flow' concieved, written, applied and tested in about 2 mins
I'm no more than a fan of this app, which is extremely well supported by the dev and community.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.gridvision.ppam.androidautomagic
Screenshot below is the UI that completely defines how this flow works - everything is defined just by creating flow charts which, if necessary, can become as complex as you like. BTW the lockScreen() function is new and currently only available in the beta (Early Access Program) version of the app, freely available from the app's support forum and is as stable (for me) as the Play Store version. I currently have 55 (now 56) flows defined in the app....

Might give it a try at some point, Thank you.
I am currently liking the app bassguy60 suggested. It is a LOT more stable than my Tasker script. I miss the vibrate function, but I'm in the process of asking the developer to implement. Hopefully it's something easy and much requested.
The most important part is consistency and fingerprint action pro has it over my Tasker script.

Any of you geniuses working on an APK for GCam?

Still prefer GCam's processing and computational photography over Samsung's. Is there a specific user to keep an eye on?

Is there another site that posts note10/note20 specific apks?
I have been searching various forums for weeks, for any Gcam version to work on the FOLD2. I know the Samsung camera is pretty decent but I like Gcam as well and the ability to use Playground AR. I'm not sure why none of the Android 10 (snapdragon) APK's seem to work even partially. Gcam worked great on my previous FOLD device.Grrrrr... It's always something....

I prefer Gcam's hdr look over Samsung's. They've had longer to work on computational photography and still do a better job I think. Also Samsung's software over-sharpens.

You are correct the shutter button comes up in middle of the inner screen not the bottom
The version I posted a few days back was NOT made specifically for the Fold2 so the UI us a bit off.
However the pictures and videos it produces are excellent

I found that a ratio of 18.5:9 with Urnyx05: GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v2.2-fix.apk version of the app worked really well
So far the only gcam apk that's working for me on my ATT version of the Fold2 is Urnyx's 7.3 v2.2.
Here's a direct screenshot of what it looks like on the external display using the 16:9 ratio which you'll see doesn't fill the top section of the display but whatever
What it looks like using the inner display with 16:9 ratio set in Good Lock
Lastly, does anyone else have an issue trying to use the advanced settings to enable the 2nd and 3rd lenses with this setting? If I try to enable this, the app forces closes and clearing the data with the app settings to bring everything back to default is the only way to get it to run again. Anyone able to get the 2nd and 3rd lenses working?

Greatness 2.1.1 works too -- I believe it uses the Urnyx code, so same issues.
The ultrawide lens works for Urnyx 2.2, but the Camera Ids are mixed up and it shows as the telephoto. When setting up the aux lenses, only enable the telephoto lens option. Then to use the ultrawide just click the 2x button. Lib patcher adjustments need to be made under telephoto too.
Hopefully Urnyx fixes this in a future version -- a couple people have mentioned it happening now in that gcam thread for other Samsung phones too.
The actual telephoto lens won't work in gcam on this or any other Samsung phone for now because Samsung never exposes that camera in the system for some crazy reason.

Updated Camera Pro App

I've been playing around with this on the 5 II, and it works fine. I like the new interface.
New photo Pro app available
Guys, just seconds ago, I found, that there's the (from what I guess) new photo pro app from xperia 1 III is available here apkmirror.com I tried to install and it worked! Not able to take a screenshot as it's forbidden by system (not really...
forum.xda-developers.com
The interface has quite a few changes. I took a dozen or so photos and I'm happy with the results but I'll leave it to pixel peepers to pass judgement.
When you install this, it gets installed separately or replaces current Photo Pro?
My icon for Photo Pro stayed but it opened the updated version. Since the basic app is included in the updated app, I deleted the old basic camera app. The settings I had set stayed the same with the upgrade.
Yesterday I walked 7 kilometers taking photos and I'm very happy with the upgrade. HDR is improved and while I'm not a pixel peeper I like the photos. They stand cropping well.
Yeah it replaces the old one. I'm hoping to get out more this weekend to test it out.
Right now I'm keeping the basic app installed. I like being able to launch either app quickly to capture a picture, as I have different settings for both. But maybe I'll get comfortable with using the one app as I play with it more.

I just installed and how i undertand its replacing both camera apps. And when you run each just the photo pro app launching, but the stadard moves to phot pro app under Basic mode
I deleted the standard photo app from my home screen but it's in my app drawer. When I click on it the old standard photo app runs. When i click on the icon for Photo App Mark III, version 1.2.A.0.17, I get the new Photo Pro app which includes a new Basic Mode which replaces the previous camera app. That's kind of confusing but it you run the new Mark III Photo App it's the basic and pro both. It's all you need.
I also read that you can go to apps and uninstall the new version if you don't like it. I like it so I haven't tried that.

Thanks for more info! Few more questions before I install the app:
Do we need to clear cache of current Photo Pro app before installing new one or direct install works?
What is working nicely(improved) vs what is not working(new features) in this new App?
Anyone got Monthly OTA updates after installing app, if yes was there any problems?
I didn't clear any cache. I simply installed the new app and the existing icon called it up. The only thing not working for me is turning on Photo Pro with the camera key but I rarely did that anyway. I never do videos so I don't know about videos.
I got a Google Play update but that's all.

So what are your settings? Stock Camera App disabled/other tools or button mapper installed?
I get confused. First, I never use the double-press power button to turn on camera. If I'm walking to the store and suddenly see something I touch the power, no press, and the phone opens to the home page and I touch the photo pro icon. Then the app opens to whatever mode I used last, which is usually programmed mode. This morning before sunrise I was using the shutter speed mode, S mode, and every time I opened Photo Pro it was on S mode.
If I'm out taking photos I have the photo pro app on and when I touch the power button--just the fingerprint sensor---the phone wakes up in the Photo Pro app.
Also, fwiw, I took the old Camera App, not Photo Pro, off my home screen. It's still in the app drawer and still works but I don't use it. I'm waiting for the "official" release of the new Photo Pro to delete it.
I've taken a lot of photos with the new Photo Pro app and have had zero problems.

Search "camera" in settings and you should see the option "Quickly open camera." If I recall the first time you do this it'll ask which camera you would want to launch. If you use fingerprint it'll also unlock the phone so you can go through the album. If not it'll still work but you can only see photos you've just taken.
You can also set photo pro to "Last used mode" under setup -> Shooting mode at launch.
No need to actually unlock the phone, no need to press on the app. Essentially the same as pressing the camera button.

Don't know about that, I still use the old version. Didn't want to update it via APK file, not sure how it would be functioning.
