I know its early on, but since this has been in place since early beta, I'm hoping there is an actual app by now...
Has anyone found an app (not a Tasker mod) to use the fingerprint scanner to lock the screen that uses the new code, and hence does not disable the fingerprint scanner for unlocking?
This was the big letdown coming from a Moto g5 to the pixel 2. Hoping it can now work exsctly the same.
Thanks!

yep, coming from op3t, that feature should be on stock android. its annoying for me to glance at the notification by pressing power button to sleep the phone. i think atm there is no app that could do that without root. with root there are many alternatives.

Root is required? Akk. From what I read I thought it would be (relatively) as simple as hitting a different (new) GLOBAL_ACTION_LOCK_SCREEN API instead of the Device Admin API. Of course... Google. They don't do things right, they just do them halfway, so you fee like it could be right. I think they secretly like the impression that they built up hope and then let their customer base down. Lol.
Thanks.

my mistake, idk about (new) GLOBAL_ACTION_LOCK_SCREEN API before this. Anyway i just tried on nova launcher beta, yep, now can assign lock screen to any gesture. it uses the new screen lock method that supported by android P now.
and here an app that i found also support android P. But it is a paid app, i tried and it works.

Awesome. Thanks!
This looks like it needs Tasker. Never used that before but I went ahead and purchased it. Figured out how to set the task to the lock app, but I cant figure out how to set up a trigger. Seems to be the profile tab, but I dont see anything that is fingerprint sensor there. Could you point me in the right direction? Thanks.
EDIT: I think I figured it out. TouchTask app. I like pressing the button, so I just set every direction. Best I could get.
EDIT2: Found out how to set a vibrate to occur right before screen off to get the same haptic feedback from screen on. Thanks again! [emoji846]

mrdoug, would you mind sharing the steps you used to make TouchTask and Tasker lock the screen using the fingerprint reader? Much appreciated!
Here's the base steps I figured out. I had to go back and try to recreate it.
Personally, I didn't find Tasker easy to use at all...very unintuitive for me, at least. Hopefully this is everything. I dont have the vibrate part in there... I need to recreate that, first. Hope to post shortly for you.
One word of caution... I found this somewhat tempormental ... it doesn't work on occasion, for no good reason I can discern. Maybe one of the apps necessary is closed to save memory? I don't know. Still, until I find an all inclusive app using the new API, this is the best I could do myself. I literally program nothing... No knowledge whatsoever. This was very new to me.
For the setup I created, you need three apps:
1. Tasker
2. TouchTask (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.balda.touchtask)
3. Screen Locker (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ivianuu.screenlocker)
In Tasker...
A. Create a Task:
1. In the Task Tab
2. Select the + in the bottom right corner to Create new task
3. Name it
4. Select the + in the bottom right corner to add a new action
5. select plugin...
6. Choose screen lock app
7. Tap the config pencil (upper right)
8. Choose back arrow (twice?)
9. The new task should appear in the main screen
B. Create a Profile
1. Got the profile tab
2. Select the + to add new trigger
3. select event
4. choose plugin
5. choose touchtask app
6. Choose fingerprint gestures
7. Choose pencil icon to edit
8. Select all option you want (I set all directions, personally)
9. Select check mark upper right to save
10. Back arrow to main window
11. Popup will appear asking what task to link it to... Select the screen lock initially created
If anyone has any suggestions to improve this... Or better yet, an all inclusive app, let me know.
Hope this helps (and actually works for you... Again, I'm in uncharted territory here).
Edit: To add the vibrate just go into the tasks tab, select the one you created for the screen off, and press the plus in the bottom corner to add a new action. Select alert and then Select vibrate. When you fine tune the duration to your preference, simply move vibrate before lock screen in the list. That's it.

Thank you, mrdoug, for providing very clear, detailed instructions for integrating TouchTask, Tasker and Screen Locker. I was able to lock my screen using the fingerprint reader. Seems to function very similar to the paid app Fingerprint Action Pro, which is also Pie-compatible. The best Oreo fingerprint app, Fingerprint Quick Action, hasn't been updated yet for Pie.
Surprise! I found this a few minutes ago...

Anyone with Android P try this? Any word on how the fingerprint lock function works? Unfortunately it's an IAP, so I'm hesitant to buy it without any knowledge of it's quality. Maybe I'll email the developer.

Just saw your comment... So how does FAP work? Is it responsive? Does it kill the battery? Any issues with it not working like Tasker?
So glad you posted that. Was hoping someone had tried it.

Automagic, IMHO, is much easier to use (and some say more functional) than Tasker and can do what you want (if I've understood the ask correctly) with no add-ons and a very simple 'flow' concieved, written, applied and tested in about 2 mins
I'm no more than a fan of this app, which is extremely well supported by the dev and community.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.gridvision.ppam.androidautomagic
Screenshot below is the UI that completely defines how this flow works - everything is defined just by creating flow charts which, if necessary, can become as complex as you like. BTW the lockScreen() function is new and currently only available in the beta (Early Access Program) version of the app, freely available from the app's support forum and is as stable (for me) as the Play Store version. I currently have 55 (now 56) flows defined in the app....

Might give it a try at some point, Thank you.
I am currently liking the app bassguy60 suggested. It is a LOT more stable than my Tasker script. I miss the vibrate function, but I'm in the process of asking the developer to implement. Hopefully it's something easy and much requested.
The most important part is consistency and fingerprint action pro has it over my Tasker script.

HomeSmack allows you to change your default Home or default Long-search app. It's similar to Home Switcher or Home Manager, but uses a method of selecting the default that works well with Android 2.2.
HomeSmack also has some special Motoblur features (that need more testing, hence posting to the Droid X subforum)! On rooted phones it lets you change the double-tap app to any app on your phone (QuickDesk or Powerstrip!) and it lets you install a patched VoiceSearch APK that:
1) Sends the standard android SEARCH_LONG_PRESS intent letting you select any normal long-search app.
2) Still lets you select VoiceSearch as the long_search app or use it normally from Launcher
3) Patches the security flaw noted here (http://www.androidcentral.com/droid-2-bug-allows-anyone-make-calls-passcode-screen)
1.0
Renamed package to com.teslacoilsw.homesmack and posted to Market
beta3
• Allows you to chose "Nothing" for double-tap
• If VoiceSearch is not installed it will prompt you to install the hacked version (no need to install it to /system)

Rooted 2.2 Droid X user here...
I really appreciate the effort you are putting into fixing this issue us Droid X/2 users have been having. I have really missed Quickdesk.
That being said, this isn't working for me. Here is my issue:
Setting QuickDesk as my double-tap action works when I'm on my home screen. However, if I am in an app, double-tap home brings me to the home screen, quickly brings up QuickDesk, and then quickly closes it so I'm just looking at my home screen. This happens both with QuickDesk set as my default home, and with Launcher Pro set as my default home.
I'd be happy to give you any extra info you need to fix this issue because I really want this feature to work
Edit: I dunno if this is possible or not, but maybe an option to make the home double tap do nothing, so QuickDesk can just do its thing like on other phones?

This would be my request also.
I'm not on BlurHome any longer. Running Rubix 1.6, but I missed the DoubleTapHome option. (doesn't work at all in Blur-less ROMS).
Downloaded this app and it does give me that capability back. Just wanted to confirm that this cool little app has functionality for people not on Blur!
Wow! What a wonderful little piece of hackery! Thank you for helping me love my Droid X just a little bit more ... great work!
Two things:
When you replace the long search with a different app (I chose PowerStrip) It takes a while for it to respond.
When changing the double tap... it took FOREVER for the menu to come up with the list of apps/activities to choose from.
But it DO work... and I will be using it.
**Edit** - #1 seems to be pretty responsive now... I guess it was the initial opening of PowerStrip
Working long press search on my droid x! This is amazing. Thanks
One note: app seems to be a tiny bit buggy when selecting which app longsearch should open. After I set it, it resets itself a few times but eventually it sticks.
Using ADW on DroidX 2.2, When I'm in an App, say, the Browser, when I double tap it just takes me back home instead of to Quick Desk. The only way I can get to Quick Desk is if I'm already on the homescreen, which is kinda defeating the purpose of quick desk.
Thanks for trying though! Keep at it

Same issue here
I'm using Rubix 1.6 and my DoubleTap is set to 'Phone' (Dialer).
I went into Opera Mini and a couple of other Apps and double tapped and it took me into the dialer just fine.
Your issue may be related to Quick Desk?

It is a great concept, but long pressing search doesnt work on Droid x and the double tap takes me right back to the home screen and then pulls quickdesk up.

Longpress search works fine for me. For double tap, you have to go into QD prefs and increase the double tap time from 300ms to higher. I use 700. Then it works great. The physical buttons seem to have trouble recognizing multiple clicks in quick succession. Tap, wait a short while, tap again. Tapping twice immediately wont work, or at least that's my experience on my dx.

If you are running a custom ROM, then you may not have Voice Search installed.
Go download Voice Search (From Google) from the market. Then longpress search should work

I had this problem. What weirdly worked for me was: download the hacked voice search through the app, then run it directly from your launcher. Then, in the homesmack app, launch the app you want to run via search long click, then click that RV notification in your notification bar to return to homesmack, the use the button on the bottom to set the default long search action. I'm running gesture bar just fine on my droid x using Long click search now!

Hi,
This is my first Android app, NBLauncher. It's a simple app that let you add shortcuts to apps as buttons in the notification bar (expanded view), so you can quickly launch an app from anywhere (as long as you have access to the notification bar). I've seen similar apps on the Android market, but I haven't seen one that uses multiple buttons/apps on the same notification line. NBLauncher currently allows a maximum of 15 buttons (three lines of five). After installing, launch NBLauncher from app drawer to configure what apps you want to add to notification bar. Use the up/down arrows to rearrange the order of the buttons. Make sure to click "Done" when exiting. You'll then see the NBLauncher icon on the notification bar. Pull down the notification and you'll see the buttons to launch your app. It also saves the list of apps so you when reboot the phone, it auto-starts with your configured list.
Two minor things that I haven't figure out. Maybe you guys could help.
1. Each notification line requires it's own notification icon in the bar. So if there are three lines of buttons, there will be three separate icons. I have made only one visible and the others invisible, but I have no idea how to get rid of the invisible icons while keeping the notification. Any ideas?
2. During installation of the app, Android lists accessing phone book/contact as one of the things that the app does. But I am not touching the phone book or any contact info. How can this be? How does it determine what an app could do? Based on permission? This obviously has an negative effect of scaring people away from the app
Feed backs and suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
can you give us a little screenshots before we give it a go?..
Nice, I like it, much better then App Launcher, which costs $2 right now.
I couldn't find it in the Market though, did you pull it?
Only complaint so far is that it doesn't play well with lcd density changes. I'm set at 161, so the UI is a little cramped when setting up, but the launcher in the notification tray scales perfectly and looks good. There are several market apps that don't scale well with density changes, so it's not even that big of a deal. Spare Parts, MixZing, Mint.com, and Shazam don't either, just to name a few.
Gratuitous screen shot,

If minSdkVersion is not set in AndroidManifest.xml, it assumes a minimum version of 1. In the SDK version 4(ish?), a few new permissions were added, so if minSdkVersion is below that, those permissions are included whether you need them or not. Read Phone State was among these.

I only tested the app on Droid X (my phone) and Evo 4G. Haven't test it on Samsung Galaxy series yet. I noticed button events in the notification view behave differently on Droid X and Evo 4G, so I had to code around it. I guess it's different again on the Galaxy phones. Sure. As long as you site the source and keep me updated on any findings so I can update my app accordingly.
To be more specific, I think the problem is how button events/intents are handled vs. default intent of the notification content view. I'll try to post some code when I get home.

Hi everyone!
If you happen to be a fan of split-window mode in Android Nougat, there is a good chance that may find this nifty tools App that I have been working on - Parallel Windows for Nougat (Android 7.0 Nougat exclusive)
What it does? 3 things as of now:
#1 Provide an onscreen shortcut to toggle split-screen
#2 Quickly launch any new App in split-screen mode through a floating mini App drawer.
#3 Mirror an App!
YES! You can run two Windows of an App, two windows of almost any App on a phone but MANY windows of an App on tablet, as seen on the screenshots above.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTION AND SOME IMPORTANT NOTES ON THE APP IS LEFT ON THE THIRD POST.
What's changed/new in v2.1_Alpha:
* The white background of "RECENT ACTIVITY" panel is now toned down.
* Recent activity removes Apps which are uninstalled.
* Added/changed UI texts wherever needed.
What's changed/new in v2.0_Alpha:
* Significant improvement in the UI controls, you should feel everything super snappy now.
* App drawer now supports fast scrolling.
* You can now adjust the placement of the hotspot to trigger Parallel Windows side bar - length, width, location (up/down/left/right.)
* A new panel is now available, 'RECENT ACTIVITY' - whichever App you launch/mirror using Parallel Windows, goes here. This panel will have more additions in future - shortcut to launch multiple Apps, widgets etc.
What's changed/new in v1.2_Alpha:
* The App is now battery ready - uses CPU for only the few seconds when you interact with it.
What's changed/new in v1.1_Alpha:
* The floating App drawer should be super responsive now.
* After swiping in left the tools menu, you can tap anywhere on the screen to exit (earlier you had to swipe back to the right.)
* Added quick sharing option.
If you have an interesting use case for the 'mirror' feature on a particular App, please post a screenshot of your phone/tablet. I will include them here to showcase.
Installation instruction and important notes on the app
THE SET-UP:
Download the .apk and proceed with standard installation.
Launch the App, read through the notes, check off boxes, hit 'continue'.
In the main Settings page, hit the first switch 'Permit to draw over other Apps', it will take you to a new page, enable the permission and hit back.
Again, in the main Settings page, click the second switch 'Enable Accessibility Service', you will be take to the Accessibility Services menu, choose "Parallel Windows for Nougat" from the list, and enable it.
[OPTIONAL] Go back to the Settings page, adjust the width and height of the hotspot (the hotspot region will be highlighted with every change.)
HOW TO USE:
Once everything is set-up, you can swipe from the middle of right edge of your screen to open the menu.
The menu has 3 buttons, starting from top they are: App Drawer, Split Screen Toggle and Mirror respectively.
Clicking the middle button (Split Screen Toggle) will, well, toggle the split-screen mode of your device.
The top most button (App Drawer,) will let you open a App drawer right on your screen. Clicking any App here will launch it side-by-side to your existing App. If your device is already in split-screen mode, then there is no gurantee on which side of the screen will the App launch. Also, one important thing to keep in mind is, this App drawer is exclusive to launch Apps side by side, it will NOT open any App in normal full screen.
The third button is called 'Mirror'. 'Parallel Windows' for Nougat is totally inspired by the magical functionality of this button. More about it in the next section.
THE MIRROR:
CASE 1: You're not in split-screen mode. Now, if you swipe from right, hit the Mirror button, it will ask you to "Select an App to mirror". You can tap anywhere on the background App that is visible through the transcluent black area. Clicking it will mirror the App, give it a few seconds to complete the process.
CASE 2: You're already in split-screen mode and you want to mirror one of the two windows (or many incase of tablets.) Again, swipe from right, hit the mirror button, tap on the App which you want to mirror, visible through the translucent black window.
There is small probability that the Mirroring didn't do its job well. In that case, you can just try again. If it doesn't work the second time either, and you really need to mirror the particular App, all you have to do is, close all other Apps, and try mirroring on the App again (it should work almost certainly.)
Do note that, not all the Apps are mirrorable. Parallel Windows will indeed let you know if it can not mirror a particular App. In most of the cases, if you think an App has a use for mirroring then most likely it will be available for mirroing.
Looks awesome
This is how I've been saying Samsungs multi window should be toggled for years! Looks great!
What I always wanted was split window in LANDSCAPE that showed 2 or 3 windows scaled as if it's 3 full screens. Like 3 devices. Smaller keyboard, smaller phone app, but clear enough on these super high res screens we have.

You can expect that to happen in future version of Parallel Windows, you can define how you would like to use the screen space.

Hi! The minimum and maximum for the App is Android 7.0 Nougat. As it is completely based of the split-screen functionality in Nougat.

Hello everyone!
The App is finally up! I spent countless hours, continuously day and night for so many days now to arrive at this Alpha version. Hope it works as good as it does on my emulator. Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Fun fact: The development of this App was entirely based on an Android emulator. Because I don't have a Nexus. So, if you downloaded the App first and installed on an Android Nougat device, you're probably the first person every to try this App on a real device. Are you the one? Let me know

Well i don't have a Nexus, but i guess i am the first one to download it on my AOSP 7.0.
The app works exactly as you described. Didn't find any bug yet but hey i'm using it since last 5 mins. I don't usually do reviews but i left you one on Google Play Store (actually my first one). I hope you get a real device to develop.
Kudos! Keep up the amazing work.
EDIT: The Sidebar closing animations are a bit laggy. I have some suggestions:
1. Clicking on the empty space to close the sidebar rather than dragging it back.
2. Change sidebar hotspot positions to user defined places on either right or left edge of the screen.
I know this app is still in alpha but just my two cents. I'll go back to lurking now.

Wow! Didn't expect the first review from India as it would be 3+ AM when you tried the App. Thank you! I acknowledged your review on Google Play Store as well.
Also, your suggestions are much appreciated. The sidebar opening may 'feel' laggy, as it waits for the user's swipe to complete from hotspot towards left. But closing should absolutely be smooth, can you clarify that? Or if it's really a visible lag, a small 3 seconds screencast would help me clarify a lot.
And as the development progresses, the hotspot will be super customizable. I have intentionally kept it super minimal to get some quick feedback on the core features.
I have quite a bunch of real exciting features planned for future versions, now if only I can slow down time.

Hello friends!
I developed an App called Fingerprint Scanner Actions, because I never understood why I could use my fingerprint scanner only for unlocking my device or other security reasons.
I mean, this is an additional button... it should be used like one.

Fingerprint Scanner Tools is an Android App that makes it possible to execute certain actions when you touch your fingerprint scanner and your device is unlocked.
This App is available from Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)
Famous actions that can be executed:
Open app-shortcut
Execute a Tasker task
Toggle the quick settings/notification panel
Launch the default camera app
Start the flashlight
Launch a certain app
Turn off the screen (3 different methods)
Take a screenshot
Swipe actions:
Same as above
Learn how to create custom fingerprint actions with tasker - you will be able to do ANYTHING possible in our big and wide android world.
My friend Mat from NotEnoughTech created an awesome tutorial how to do that. Have fun!

Q&A:
Q: Why is my notification bar expanding so slow?
A: This is a bug in Android 6.0. Please try this workaround:
Enable developer options
In Developer Options go to "Animator duration scale" and set it to 0.2x (you can set it also to 0, then it is going down super fast)
Lock and unlock your device for it to take effect
Q: Why am I unable to unlock my device with my fingerprint after locking it with the action "Screen off" and "DeviceAdmin"?
A: Please use another screen off method, you can choose it in the app. Android prevents us to unlock the device with the fingerprint when it has been locked with the so called DevicePolicyManager. They said that they don't want this feature to be misused.

If you are able to add some special features it would be awesome. On my Honor 5x there is this feature with stock Rom, as I am running CM 13 now, I really miss it:
Show notification panel - Slide down on the fingerprint sensor to display the notification panel, double-touch to clear the panel, and slide up to close the panel.
Is this somehow doable?

Yes, just choose "launch camera" as the action.
@Flextrick
The App works good, thx.
I have two suggestions:
1. Probably most of the users - like me also - , just want to see the notification Panel to check for Messages received.
Currently there is only the Option in your app to expand it completely to open the quick Settings menu. Maybe you can add in your next Version just the option to open the notification Panel?
2. The Speed of the downmoving notification Panel / quick Settings menu when use it with Fingerprint and your app, is very slow compared to when used it with regular downsliding on the Display front.
Is there a way to fix this also?

Hi,
1. Added this option right now.
2. Can't image why this should happen, I only send the request to Android, so there must be something wrong in CM13. I have Stock Android 7.0 and it works like a charm.

Amazing Support! Thank you very much! Looking Forward to the new Version.
I know now why it is so slow, I researched a bit about it.
It is a bug in the Android 6.0 System Framework.
For all having the Problem with the slow downmoving statusbar, here is a solution to fix it:
1. Enable developer options
2. In Developer Options go to "Animator duration scale" and set it to 0.2x (you can set it also to 0, then it is going down super fast)
3. Lock and unlock your device for it to take effect
For me, this solution worked.

Thanks, I added this hint to the q&a section in the start post.
The app seems to randomly close itself, just nothing happens when using the FP scanner with screen on (I have set it to screen off)
Locking and unlocking the screen seems to fix the issue every time this happens

I'm giving the users more possibilities how the screen should be locked.
I try to make this as professional as possible. Any beta testers who would like to test it?

Hi Everyone!
So, I decided to take a gamble in buying an Umidigi F1 phone and it just arrived.
Playing with it, it has android pie (supposedly clean, but i'll come to that) yet appears to be missing some features
Basically, I'm missing:
Gestures - the section is there but only two options and not the change in home button
Home Setting - hitting the desktop only gives wallpapers and widgets, no home settings
So, can anyone tell me why these are missing and how I get them - being that they're both software features of android pie and this is supposedly the latest version of (5 Jan 2019 security patch), I'm a little confused!
Thanks

Gotcha, but they don't really answer the question
Question 1 was, why am i missing the OFFICIAL built in gestures for Android pie (i.e. swiping the central button)
Question 2 is why am i missing the home setting button which enables the AI learning to show different things in the drawer (new Pie feature)

Maybe Umidigi changed it. They aren't on Android One program, they don't have to keep it stock Android.
It's already a bonus there isn't a heavy skin and bloatware.

Have you managed to find a better camera app? I've been looking for an equivalent phone from

Ah, no, the one I mentioned should be in the screen I showed (it is on my MiA1, and is where all the pie guides list it) - it's slightly different to the one you list (which I'm guessing is something custom for Umidigi or a precursor perhaps!)
That camera works for me, thanks for the link, but it's a really old version on Google Camera (2.4!), and I'm not sure it's adding much over the stock. In fact doesn't seem to be any way to get to the gallery even from it unless I'm being dim!
Will keep holding out for a port of the latest Google camera that works!

You get to the gallery by swiping from the right but I'd have to agree with you that it doesn't improve the image quality, which I'm pretty impressed with in all fairness. The Panorama and Photo Sphere is pretty good though, but I don't see me using those much. I'd be really interested if you do manage to find a worthwhile camera app, so please post if you do. I read somewhere that 'A Better Camera' app is pretty good, even if it does sound crap but haven't tried yet.
Good luck finding the Gestures you want. Strangely the 'Slippery Gestures' I mentioned doesn't show up in a search, so maybe what your looking for is hidden there somewhere; albeit not where it should be

Has anyone gotten root?
I have unlocked bootloader, install Twrp, but I dont get to install Magisk. I think there is a problem with encription. Format data and decrypted, install magisk zip and no verity but when reboot phone encrypted and no magisk installed.
Only I get is twrp and open bootloader pernanently.

What's the status of the bootloader on these devices? Is it already unlocked?

Umidigi phones are unlockable out of the box with just the OEM unlock command via ADB/Fastboot, and while I haven't seen it confirmed, odds are that this phone is no different.
The real question is going to be whether we see any development for it on XDA. I'm seriously considering buying an F1, but since you really can't rely on first-party software updates for these Chinese no-name devices, I'm holding off to see if it gets some love here on XDA.

Right. I have unlocked it with adb..... Fastboot flashing unlock.
There is Twrp and decrypted zip file, but this seems dont work. When reboot to system phone are encrypted and magisk flashed without error in twrp dont work in the Rom
