I'm pretty sure I bricked my rogers HTC one X.
Where can I find a Rogers RUU?
I can see a lot of AT&T ones, but not a Rogers one.
Is there one around I can snag?
There's a link posted online. I restored mine last weekend.

are you using vm?
Not sure why you mean by vm but I did get it working put the phone in fastboot after a wall charge. I didn't think you needed to be in fastboot to use ARU
Thanks for all the help now bootloader says "relocked" lol
Completely back to stock ruu
I was unable to find an EXE, but did find the Rogers ZIP file.
Thanks to PeteHTC I used the file that you guys downloaded and followed this process, worked like a charm...

Hi everyone,
I'm very new to the unlocking world and I couldn't have a worse start. In fact I have done something really stupid, I have installed a AT&T firmware, the latest, 1.85 on my Rogers HTC One X and even though the phone is working relatively well, I don't have my data plan, I guess because of the firmware.
I have tried to install a RUU, shown in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658929 but half way it says it can't update this ROM, saying this ROM isn't for this phone. It probably because my AT&T firmware.
Is there a way I could install a Rogers Firware back on my HTC One X?
Thanks a lot for your precious help, very appreciated.

I've never been able to get the rogers ruu to work either. my advice... If your unlocked... fastboot flash a custom recovery (twrp) and flash king cobra 1.2 rom found in our dev section.
your data issue is 99.9% of the time a missing apn.

Hi ptesmoke,
What do you mean by "Unlocked" are you talking about the bootloader? If yes then I'm not but it won't be aproblem I have unlocked the bootloader a couple of times but for this Rogers RUU it says I need to have the bootloader Locked.
As I said, I'm very new to this world when you tell to fastboot a cutom recovery (twrp) are you talking about something like ClockworkMod Recovery? Is (TWRP) a recovery tool too? I have installed ClockworkMod Recovery into my phone.
Could you please post the link for the king cobra 1.2 file, is there a thread that explain how to flash the ROM?
Thank you very much ptesmoke, very appreciated you help

Before I start, all credit goes to JSLEnterprises. This is his method.:good:
I have a always working method, but requires the following:
1. Either having a Rogers Device, or have Supercid (no area limitations)
2. Locked bootloader (relocked is fine)
3. Drivers that can run fastboot USB (if you can unlock your bootloader, this is not a problem)
The way I got Rogers RUU to work is as follows:
1. open the AT&T RUU .exe
2. after the first window pops out (takes a while cause it need to decompress things), don't continue. Look for C:\Users\(your user name)\AppData (often hidden, change your "folder and search settings" in Organization)\local\Temp. In the Temp folder, search for rom.zip (you don't want to go over every f**king sub-folder, right?)
3. Rename the Rogers RUU zip into rom.zip and replace the rom.zip in Temp folder
4. start your One X into fastboot, connect it to the PC, and it should show "fastboot USB"
5. continue your steps in the AT&T RUU program.
Since you have replaced the AT&T ruu rom with rogers, rogers will be flashed.
Again, all credit goes to JSLEnterprises.

You know what? this might be caused by two things.
1. At&t firmware
2. RUU don't usually downgrade stuff....you can only downgrade firmware with RUU when you are in fastboot usb
Get Supercid (I believe there's a one click tool for it...not sure if it works on every firmware though...use the search tool), flash through fastboot usb, and you will be fine.
By the way, instead of using the tool in the link you have (which I think is a stripped down version of RUU.exe), run the original AT&T RUU, and replace the rom.zip in temp (look above)...this works better for me than the stripped down version.
Hi xhao1108,
Thank you very much for your reply.
Actually I haven't flashed an AT&T with a Rogers ROM, it was the opposite. I have a Rogers phone that I have flashed with an AT&T (1.85) ROM and even though the phone works, I can receive and make calls, I don't have access to the data.
The Supercid is to root the phone? I've tried prior to flash my phone and I was able to root it, however with the new firmware I can't find a solution that works.
As for the method you propose, I've tried it but I can't find the rom.zip on my Temp folder, I have changed the folder and search options but no luck.
The problem is that I can't find a RUU from rogers, I have tried with this one on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658929 but half way it says the rom isn't for this device.
I'm quite stuck right now because I can't find a RUU from Rogers, I cant find a proper way to root and I can't even reboot on Recovery. I have installed recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.3.1-evita-modaco and the process goes well, no error message, so I can't even boot on recovery and flash with the zip file.
Once again, thank you for your time and thank you everyone for the precious help.

ppl are telling you to do too many different things.
If you've unlocked before... and yes bootloader, unlock it again.
boot into bootloader once unlocked and fastboot flash TWRP recovery, you can find the thread in the dev section.
Once that's flashed reboot into recovery by completely turning off the phone and powering up with vol down and power. select recovery.
find the menu to mount usb storage device. hook up to pc.
download king cobra 1.2 or any other custom rom you'd like to try, and follow Instructions in the roms thread (usually factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik cache then flash rom)
once that's done reboot system.
WINNING
alternatively you could just add the rogers apn info in the rom you have on there now... then your data would work. But I'd recommend kingcobra, works stellar on rogers.
If your stuck pm me..and ill give u my gtalk info so we can txt.
edit; I'd link you to everything but it's 11pm here and I'm mobile...

It worked perfectly, I had installed ClockworkMod recovery and I don't know for which reason I wasn't being able to go on recovery, with TWRP recovery it worked like a charm and I now have my data back.
Once again, a thousand thanks for your precious help. If I can do anything for you don't hesitate, if I can help I'm here.
OK,
I did something really stupid. I was able to flash King Cobra 1.2 and my phone was working just fine but then after I wanted to install Sick Sense but it asked to do a reset factory and wipe system in recovery mode which I did. However, after I've wiped the system I don't have the rom on my sdcard anymore, actually it seems I have only the folder structure but no files in it.
I thought the wipe system would erase my rom on my SDCARD, how I don't know how to put the rom back to be able to flash the rom, when I plug the USB cable it asks me to Format, which I don't do of course but I can't see my phone on the explorer.
Is there a way to push the rom file into the phone other than via the windows explorer?
Thanks for your help.

flash addict already? lol
you should be able to go into twrp recovery, mounts, mount usb storage.
plug into pc, copy rom onto phone.
unmount usb, go back, wipe, flash, profit?
if when mounting your pc says it needs to format the sdcard... don't do it. do it from recovery. ive never tried formatting my sdcard "essentially its just a folder" yet with recovery but it shouldn't break anything.. you'll just lose everything on it.. sounds like you already have though.

Beware, I installed AT&T's latest OTA update today, but something went wrong because I just get a black "blank screen" after the htc splash screen.
Symptoms are like this:
Power on
Get "HTC Quietly Brilliant" splash screen
AT&T Music plays, but the screen is black, no animated ATT logo
A few seconds later, the screen is still black, but the power button toggles the backlight on and off
I tried swiping my unlock pattern on the black/blank screen to get the phone to do something like activate the camera so I could hear the autofocus motor, but nothing seems to be working.
I can reset the phone by holding the power button for 5 seconds, the softkey backlights flash at about 1Hz for a few seconds and it reboots
I can boot into hboot, fastboot, and recovery (sadly all stock) by holding VOL- and POWER
Some people in this forum are having the same issue:
Google: "androidcentral.com AT&T HOX Update!!"
(sorry, I hope linking to another forum is okay I did not see the same subject here)
So AT&T acknowledged their update bricked my phone and they are shipping me a new phone, BUT.......
MY REAL PROBLEM is I have several pictures from a recent trip and I haven't figured out a way to get them off the phone. I'm cursing the non-removable SD Card now!:silly:
Two ways out of this I can think of, but I don't know exactly how to execute (1) and I'm unsure about (2):
Mount the SD Card in the stock bootloader (impossible?)
Run one of the RUU updates in the hope of un-bungling whatever that OTA update did (will it overwrite my /sdcard dir?)
(1) I see I could do this if I had the twrp recovery, but I haven't gotten around to unlocking this phone yet. (2) Can anyone confirm if the 1.85 or 2.20 RUU erases the /sdcard dir? I called HTC support, the tech support person said they were "98% sure 2.20 RUU wouldn't erase the SD card" but I was hoping some one could state that from experience on either the 1.85 or 2.20 RUU.
2.20 RUU is found here, along with a warning it could "possibly" erase /sdcard:
www htc com/us/support/htc-one-x-att/software-updates
Any input greatly appreciated. If I can get out of this bind, perhaps it is good I did not complete 2.20 after what I was reading through here!
I had the exact same issue. If I recall correctly I lost all pictures I took after doing the RUU, but the RUU did fix it.
However, the RUU will update you to the newest (not unlockable version) and you will lose hboot.

Negative on both. I was seriously hoping there was some magical incantation using fastboot or something to get the SD card mounted. If I only had debugging on, I might just be able to use adb but I'm not even sure anything is really alive behind that blank screen. Any options with the stock boot loader/recovery?

So 2.20 erases the /sdcard directory? I wonder if 1.85 RUU does the same?
I also saw it was possible to pull the partition images out of the RUU by copying them out of the windows temp folder. Any chance I could re write the system partition only and get the phone to boot up again?
Thanks for all the input so far.

The OTA will also update the hboot. It looks like he already did the OTA so it wouldn't hurt to ruu.
OP, was your bootloader unlocked and cid changed prior to taking the OTA? If so, you might wanna try to ruu 2.20 because chances are you may get a replacement with 2.20 already installed and you won't be able to root or unlock. Maybe even try the 1.85 ruu. The OTA might not have taken. Either way I think those are your only options. I don't think you'll be able to get your pictures back. Although I could have sworn when I ruu'd before that it kept all my pictures. I backup all my pics to Dropbox now.

File corrupted!
I've downloaded the update 3 times, 4th in progress. I keep getting the message "Downloaded File Corrupted, do you want to download again?" anyone else experienced this?
The RUU does not wipe your sdcard. I've done the 1.85 RUU and 2.20 RUU multiple times. My sdcard has persisted through every RUU.
WOO HOO!
Well it was a majority vote for "doesn't wipe /sdcard", I ran the 2.20 RUU from HTC's support site. After about 10 minutes, not only does my phone work again, I still have all the contents in /sdcard and my pictures. :victory: I had the 1.85 RUU as well, but it came from some file sharing site and I'm sometimes weary of running stuff from those places.
In summary:
If the OTA update bricks your phone the RUU available on HTC's website (see my first post) will fix the problem and preserve the contents of /sdcard.
OR if the OTA update bricks your phone and you want a new one, call AT&T because they still don't know how to fix this problem.
Thanks for the help!

Try the RUU package from HTC's website I mentioned in the first post. This will apply the same update the OTA does, but it resets the phone back to factory (except for the contents of /sdcard)

Hey
I just got a huge bootloop while attempting to flash new Venom Room to my HTC One X. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1868236
I cannot access the recovery.. After restart (power button+volume down) i can get to bootloader section, but when i try to get into recovery, the phone just restart and stop on the white htc screen.
I already tried to reinstall recovery. Installation was successful, but the problem persists..
Before i had Incert Coins room.
The phone is unlocked, new recovery is installed
Please, help
If you had Insert Coin working on your phone, you have an international (Tegra3) version of the One X. This forum (and the Venom ROM you linked) are for the Snapdragon S3 version. Completely different hardware.
If I'm correct, you flashed a ROM for the wrong phone. Try running the RUU for your phone, but if that doesn't work you may be screwed. Recovery partitions are not the same for the versions. The ROM overwrote the recovery partition of your phone.
You are right.. It WAS the wrong rom.. I have tegra3 processor and this rom comes from american section..
But - is the RUU reinstall only one thing what i can do? I heard its dangerous

RUU just returns your phone to the stock condition. Stock ROM and stock recovery. There should be nothing dangerous about it. Just use the right one for your version, carrier, etc. But the CID check should ensure that you don't run the wrong RUU (if RUU is for a different CID, the RUU will not run).
Only thing with RUU, is that it wipes all user data. That may be why you heard its "dangerous". But in the condition you are in, this is not even a consideration anymore.
RUU is not dangerous, and it may be your only hope at this point.
You will need to lock your bootloader before running the RUU.
I've relocked bootloop. But now there is an information "RELOADED, Security Warning"
Will be safe to flash stock RUU now?

ohh, its Relocked.. Im just a bit nervous right now hoping it will unbrick this phone..
Just 3min to complete RUU download.
Do U guys think this stock RUU will rewrite the partitions back?
I've noticed another problem.
Cannot load RUU because the battery level is lower then 30%.
But when i plug the charger the light doesnt flash. It starts to flash when i switch on the phone.
Also cannot switch the phone with the power button. It restart all the time. Only can do that from bootloader command "power down". But when the phone is off the power light doesnt flash..
Does it mean that the battery is not charging at all? Because the light can flash only because the power is low..
The phone shut down completly now.. Does not charge the battery at all.. Power gone off and i cannot even turn on the phone..
Is there any solution how to make it charge?
Ok, the problem is that the wrong ROM i tried to install changed partition and also it seems it destroyed Recovery..
Without recovery the phone cannot charge while being in bootloader mode...
Is there any way to make phone charging when Recovery doesnt work and cannot be flashed?
Please help
Take the phone apart. I mean all the way spart and hardwire a charger to the phone/ battery. Its a pain but you can do it.
Ohh..
I found a treat http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1658084
There is a way to charge battery by running the script, which makes phone reinstalling constantly. Each time it is reinstalled, the battery is charged a little bit more.
After mayby 40min i went up from 3686 V to 3720 V.
It seems that my only hope is to reinstall RUU. I tried to flash wrong ROM, from wrong model and as one user wrote above, it has rewritten my partition. Same time it destroyed recovery.. I cannot flash recovery now because the partition is rewritten...
And without working recovery i cannot charge the battery being in bootloader.. If i understand it all correctly.
I already tried to install RUU with 3710 V. It started to install, but stopped after few min with information that battery is too low..
So i think ill leave this script running for a whole night, and hope, in the morning battery will be charged just enough to install RUU eventually..
Uff
Okey, finally its fixed..
After 7 hours of constant reinstalling the phone by the script, the battery was loaded enough to finish RUU instalation process.. (battery went to about 3830mV power)
After oryginal RUU was installed, everything went fine.
Now i already re-unlocked the bootloader, re-rooted the phone and all works correctly.
Thanks all people who helped. Mostly to redpoint73, who diagnosed the problem straight away and put me on the right track.

So, just to set the stage, I'm not a developer, but I'm fairly practiced at using ADB, unlocking bootloaders, rooting and unrooting, and installing custom recoveries and ROMs - that is to say, I know what I'm doing. I recently bought an HTC One, and in preparation for wanting to sell my One X on ebay, I wanted to return it to completely stock and make sure OTA updates were working properly.
I started by relocking the bootloading and installing the 2.20.502.7 RUU (I have an AT&T One X). That went fine and booted up properly, but I wasn't seeing the OTA updates, so I thought maybe the stock recovery hadn't been installed properly, and when I tried to boot into the recovery I couldn't get the menu to show (the initial image appeared, but holding Vol Up+Down didn't do anything, just made the error image appear after several seconds). So I downloaded the stock recovery image, reunlocked the bootloader, flashed the stock recovery...and then when I went to reboot the phone turned off and hasn't turned back on since.
Getting stuck in a bootloop or something I know how to deal with, but the phone is completely unresponsive, holding the power button for any length of time seems to have no effect, hoping you guys might have some ideas.
FYI My phone was on bootloader 1.09 before flashing the RUU, 1.14 after.

Where did you download from, and can you give link? Any charge light, when you connect the wall charger?

Download link: http://downloadandroidrom.com/file/HTCOneX/unroot/OneXUnroot.zip
Connecting charger shows blinking red notification light. As a side note, the phone was at 96% battery when I was working on it and I left it plugged in overnight, just in case.
That website doesn't make mention of the AT&T version. Not certain, but I'm inclined to believe its the recovery for the quad core version. Different hardware, with different partitions, so you might be hosed.
Take great care when you install mods from these kinds of websites (places other than XDA). They often do not clearly delineate between the dual core and quad core versions of the One X.

Yeah...that was dumb...I realized what you were getting at as I was getting the link for you... That said, I WAS able to get it turn on just now by holding down the Vol Down button and power for 10 seconds...although, didn't actually do anything, letting go of those buttons and simultaneously unplugging it from the charger made it turn on...not sure which or both of those things were actually the cause though. But once I was booted in I tried booting into recovery with "adb reboot recovery" but that got me to the HTC logo screen with the developer warning but it hung there. Luckily, I was able to boot into the bootloader, but again, trying to get into the recovery made it hand at the "quietly brilliant" screen. Do you know if the stock RUU's are supposed to flash the stock recovery, or do have a link to AT&T's stock recovery? I'm having a hard time finding one labeled properly.
Yes, RUU flashes stock recovery.
If the screen is coming on, that is usually a good sign. Try the RUU again.
BTW, do not not not install the 3.18 RUU if you are SuperCID and S-on. Or you will brick.

Okay, I'll try that, I still have the 2.20 RUU. Good to know on the 3.18 since I am def SuperCID. Will being SuperCID affect my ability to install OTA updates?

Yes, SuperCID and S-on will also brick your phone, if you try to install 3.18 OTA.
You might consider doing s-off, or changing back to the AT&T CID. Even if you don't update using the 3.18 OTA, its very possible the buyer will.

Good idea. Found a thread for S-OFF (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2155071) but not sure how to restore AT&T CID.
EDIT: Frick, wish I had though to do this BEFORE installing RUU and unrooting the phone.
I have an HTC One XL from Hong Kong and haven't been able to update to 4.1
I contacted HTC's customer services and this was the conversation:
Yemi: thanks, one moment please
Your device was manufactured in Hong Kong and only has one year warranty. As it is out of warranty, you are not able to receive any further updates
me: so no updates to future versions of sense or android at all?
Yemi: unfortunately not, If your device was made in UK or Europe, this would have been available for your device
me: ok, that explains why I can't update. thanks
Yemi: you can update manually through htcdev
me: oh, thanks, can you tell me where exactly I should be looking?
Yemi: unfortunately, that falls outside of my support
--
I had no idea updates stopped when the warranty did firstly, and secondly, can't see anywhere on the dev site to download or manually update the firmware.
I know i can flash a custom rom, but i would like to stick with sense and the stock android if possible.
I have looked around and downloaded a few different RUU files, most aren't for the one xl, but the one x, either way, they all fail.
Any ideas?

I don't think that is strictly true (I think people still get updates well after their warranty is up). It was more of the support person's (poorly phrased) way of saying, that since you are no longer within warranty, they aren't obligated to support you. Or he didn't have a good answer, and just wanted to get rid of you.
Him telling you to get the files from HTCDev is kind of a crap response as well, as you have to be pretty knowledgeable to know where that is. This thread has the links to the OTA files: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37227608
But I don't know of any way to manually force the update to install (after you download it from the above link), without root. This is the only method I know of: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1701460
Why exactly can't you get the OTA update by the normal means? Are you not in Hong Kong?
To update:
Place the OTA.zip file on your SD card.
Boot to bootloader (press and hold power. The capacitive buttons will blink a bunch of times and then the phone will shut off.
When the phone shuts off, let go of power and press and hold volume until the bootloader comes up.
Select recovery.
Then you'll get a picture on your phone of a phone or something
Press and hold volume up and, while holding volume press power then release.
It will say error cannot mount SD card, that's normal and then take you into recovery
There, you will select Install update from Phone storage or Install update from internal storage (Don't select install update from sd card, it will just try to locate external memory of which there is none.)
Select your OTA zip file.
Your phone will update and then notify you when it's time to reboot.
Good luck
thanks for the response.
I'm not in Hong Kong. Picked it up last year on a trip and thought i'd be able to upgrade when 4.1 came out.
When i search for updates, it says "there are no updates available for your phone".
I'll check the link and hopefully find something, and will then follow exad's instructions and fingers crossed, i'll be on 4.1 :good:

HTC Hong Kong (CID: HTC__622; MID: PJ8312000)
OTA: OTA_EVITA_UL_JB_45_S_hTC_Asia_HK_3.17.708.5_0.23a. 32.09.29_10.128.32.34a_release_306192l1uvogdfxreoh m82.zip (full)
I see. Well there are some people that report it working after several tries. You could try that or try the method redpoint posted.
I looked through htc and htc dev and did not find an official ota for your phone there.

OTAs are typically not available if you are not located in the intended region for the device (in a different country). Normally, the recommendation from HTC is to install the RUU, but unfortunately, a 3.17 RUU was never released for HK region, for whatever reason.

what's weird is that i picked up the one xl for me and the one s for my girlfriend, and the one S updated in the UK without a problem.
I'll root the phone and try the other method.

That's why I say "typically not available", as I've seen some exceptions.
You might also try to backup your personal data, do a factory reset, and try to update again, using the "normal" means (checking for update in Settings). This has been known to help update problems, which happen even when the device is in the intended region.

If you are going to go through the effort of unlocking the bootloader and rooting, you might as well just install custom recovery and flash a custom ROM, or stock rooted ROM; and not even mess with the OTA. It will make for a cleaner install, and may well be better in the long run anyway. But that is just my opinion.
What version is the phone currently on? You should update via all ota's one by one from a base.
Eg if 1.77.708.2 you can't update officially and need to rebase with ruu to atleast 1.77.708.3 I think it was a demo version not for public.
If 1.77.708.3 you need 1.89 then 2.42 then 3.17.
Or skip steps by flashing the newest ruu you can get you hands on, eg 2.42
Post version, cid and soff if possible.

That's true. You can't skip an OTA, if updating by OTA. OTA is usually just an incremental update, where an RUU is a complete package.

i see. well it doesn't give me any updates so i can't even climb the ladder.
CID is HTC_622
Version 1.77.708.2
S-On
if there's a rooted version of the stock rom, i may look for that. I did try CM10 once upon a time, but didn't like it

But you can try to download the "next" OTA file in the sequence (from the XDA thread I linked), and try to update manually. See if that works, and if so "climb the ladder"(I like that term!) that way.

I don't think there is a stock rooted version of the exact firmware you are looking for (HK 3.17), but there are several 3.17 stock rooted ROMs from other regions. The only difference would be some of the bloatware, and some other minor differences. Look under "Stock Rooted" in the CUSTOM ROMs section of my index: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
Or better yet, flash a "stock-ish" custom ROM. There are custom ROMs like CleanROM, UrDroid, and others, that give a largely stock Sense feel, but strip out the bloatware, makes some performance enhancements, add add a few features, without diverging too far from the stock ROM experience. ViperXL is another reputable ROM, that ventures a bit further into customization territory (but still largely stock experience).

The toolkit is intended for the AT&T version, which has more restrictions than any other carrier. You won't need to SuperCID (and don't think the toolkit will work for SuperCID on your version, anyway). But other toolkit features may be helpful (unlock bootloader, installing custom recovery, etc.).
Be aware, you don't need the toolkit per se. In short, all you need to do on your version of the phone, is to go to HTCDev.com, follow the instruction there to unlock the bootloader, install custom recovery, then flash the custom ROM.
I'd advise to start reading, before attempting any of this. As there are various nuances and pitfalls that can only be learned by reading.
Also be aware that unlocking the bootloader deletes your personal data from the phone. So back up anything that is valuable to you. Specifically, it formats the /data partition, but normally not the SD partition (but I would back that up too, just to be safe).
unlocked bootloader, flashed recovery...no recovery!
when i go into recovery, i get the "this build is for development purposes. Do not distribute..." message and then the phone reboots and loads the home screen.
tried twrp and cwm
If you installed using the toolkit, try installing recovery manually using fastboot.
didn't bother with the toolkit in the end and used fastboot and that was the result.
i'm almost convinced that i bought a brick to begin with!
