Galaxy S6 G920F restore stock recovery - possible problems? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I was given G920F to remove the simlock. Android 7.0 (AP ver. G920FXXU6ERF5). Removed simlock using Z3X box (just bought, it was my first phone I've tried to unlock using this box). To do so, it was necessary to root the phone, so I flashed the latest TWRP with Odin, installed Magisk, removed the simlock. What if I'd like to unroot the phone and back to stock recovery? Simlock won't be back? Will be necessary to wipe data/factory reset? I have full copy of the content of this phone (Smart Switch) and all partitions (TWRP), but let's say that I'd like to do as little as possible steps to restore the phone to original state (of course without lock). The reason why I'd like to unroot is because of many apps shows warnings and / or doesn't fully work (mostly banking apps / Google Pay etc.). I know, some can be cheated with Magisk Hide, but not all of them and let's say it - it's not my phone. When I uninstall Magisk, the phone goes into bootloop and I don't know is it needed to restore stock recovery to get out of the bootloop and what will happen when I do this?

OK, I've checked what will happen if I try to flash stock recovery again... First, I uninstalled Magisk and got bootloop as expected. Then, I flashed back the stock recovery to replace TWRP, but I got bootloop with dm-verity error. I've tried to wipe cache partition, no luck. I have to go back to TWRP and Magisk again. Any ideas how can I unroot the phone?
Edit: OK, once again... I flashed full firmware with Odin. Fortunately no data loss, so I avoided reisntalling / restoring data from backup.

Samsung S6 stuck in boot loop

Hello,
I am new to rooting so I hope what i say makes sense.
I recently rooted my Samsung galaxy s6 G920IDVU3EPC6 yesterday. After seeing a update notification pop up it took me to twrp where I tried everything to get out of it, install the .zip thing. reboot. Nothing would get me out of the twrp menu. stupidly, I did an advanced wipe and it appears I got rid of all the system files or something like that.
Now the only thing I can do is enter the blue download menu or get stuck on the boot logo screen forever. I have made backups of my files on my PC. How do I get my phone back? please help me!
Hi,
Samsung OTAs (Over The Air) updates won't work on a rooted device. It has rebooted into TWRP, because normally it reboots into it's original Samsung recovery and installs the update. But because TWRP replaces the Samsung recovery, it doesn't work.
And if you have wiped the System partition, you no longer have anything installed. No Android, nothing.
The easiest thing to do would be to flash the original firmware for your device. Then you can do the update, then root your device.
A good habit to get into when you have TWRP installed is to do regular TWRP full backups. That way, if anything happens (like wiping your device), you can just restore that backup from TWRP, and the phone will be exactly as it was, with all partitions intact

Galaxy S6 only boots in TWRP

As the title already states my Galaxy S6 ( SM-G920F, 6.0.1, rooted) only boots in TWRP and I can't get out of that recovery boot loop. I already tried flashing the stock ROM but I get the SW REV CHECK FAIL DEVICE 4 BINARY 3 fail. Are there any ways to fix this, possibly without losing all my personal data(if not I'd like to know how anyways)?
I can access the download menu and I also tried wiping the Dalvik/ART Cache.
I tried this stock ROM: G920FXXU4DPIL, Switzerland(AUT)
Thanks for taking your time
EDIT: I haven't tried ADB since I'm not sure how to use it correctly and I don't want to screw up even further.
Hi mate that error means that the stock firmware you are triyng to install is a lower version than the one on the device, go online and find the most recent version, as for the data just boot to twrp make a backup of data partition, connect the phone to pc twrp as mtp turn on by default and copy the backup to pc, after the flash just reinstall twrp and restore.

[Bricked] One of the harder ones =|

I'm gonna keep it simple, here is the scenario:
ROM is corrupted.
Bootloader is unlocked.
FRP lock is on. (fastboot can't do much)
TWRP was flashed back to stock.
Stock hard-reset fails. (even wipe option)
Force upgrade stops at 5% (swear I am using the same one)
eRecovery does not work.
Can't flash. Can't push files.
Wat do.
Model: BLN-L24C567B369 (pretty sure this was it)
Whole story:
This whole episode began when I wanted to install Magisk to use MagiskManager's HideMe feature. This required me to install TWRP recovery which inturn lead me to unlock my bootloader in the process, straightforward and went off nicely. Now it was time to gain superuser which I already had done before on another device, installing SuperSU through TWRP recovery was painless but after booting found out MagiskManager needs Magisk Root to work. I then followed Android Exlpained's article to do so. Running unSU through recovery went smoothly but running Magisk didn't, on the initial run I was prompted to use Adrian DC's BootBridge which after removing a few Assert lines ran nicely. However there was no root install, SuperSU was removed though.
At the time I wasn't sure what exactly I was doing and ended up soft-bricking by flash boot through TWRP, at this time FRP was unlocked. After many many hours I restored to stock firmware by using YMNDLZ's guide. I used BLN-L24C567B370(OTA-MF-FULL) for the img files then proceed to flash the vendor.img using TWRP and the rest (boot.img, recovery.img, system.img) using fastboot in that order as instructed. The only part which didn't work was the forced update, it always failed at 5% however after more hours going recovery mode (now stock) wiping the cache and data/factory reset did the trick (Note: my model showed BLN-L24C567B369). I proceeded to reinstall TWRP, installed MagiskManager, tried to install Magisk 16.0 which ran but didn't root me but was fine because MagiskManager's download worked. I then thought since I went through all this trouble might as well install a custom rom, EliteRom was my ROM of choice. At this point I had logged in with my gmail credentials FRP was now locked.
*Before further action was taken I took the precaution to backup my current stable stock ROM after installing EliteROM but before booting*
The steps to install EliteROM went by flawlessly, installed EliteTWRP reboot into it, ran EliteROM
went through the setup without any hiccups. However up system restart I the ROM wouldn't boot leading me to boot into my recovery only to be prompted for an encryption password (???). Since I didn't recall setting one, couldn't boot into the OS, and FRP was locked I couldn't read my own internal storage. So I reformatted the internal storage and tried what had worked before, flashing the img files using TWRP then booting into stock recovery wiping cache and data/hard reset. . . this did not work. And here I am FRP locked so fastboot isn't useful (I think?), stock recovery doesn't work, eRecovery fails connection, and force update still fails at 5% with "Software install failed!".

Lemme know if there is any insight anyone can provide and thanks in advance.
This problem has been solved?

you have to follow only xda methods to root or change to custom rom. i have never heard about flashing stock images from twrp. i think u didn't followed elite rom instructions clearly. you need to formate data then reboot to recovery then wipe everything then flash the os in this way you won't get encription error. anyway now your frp is locked so there is no way to flash twrp so download all the available firmwares for your phone oeminfo then do flashing via dload you will get it worked.
even i was also once stuck with elite rom. i didn't liked it because missing apps icon and forgetting permission. i tried to go back to stock but stuck at 5% error. then went to google searched stock rom for honor 6x india and downloaded nearly 3 roms last one worked helped me to get back to stock.
never flash system images boot, vendor etc from fastboot and twrp unless you are on emui8 and going to try gsi roms.
hey i cant revert back to stock rom. it fails to get package from server. does jio voice calling works on this device?? if no then plz guide me how to go back to stock rom..

Register for update using firmware finder and Puts dns address in the router settings and then use erecovery

Messed up upgrading to 10.3.4 - can't do anything now

Spent about 1 entire day now and I think am in worse shape than when started.
Rooted with Magisk went from 10.3.3 to 10.3.4, and the phone was working, but didn't have TWRP recovery.
So, putting that back on is when the trouble started. Got TWRP on, and all the phone would do was boot to recovery.
Have since tried lots of things, and learned, apparently a TWRP backup is of no use whatsoever - can't restore the phone from the backup. (Restore "restores" but it doesn't boot.)
As I tried different things (flashing the full 10.3.3 and/or 10.3.4 OTA), at one point I got the phone back booted, but wifi wouldn't turn on and the cell signal didn't work - and now, I'm at a point where with TWRP in either slot A or slot B, cannot mount Data partition.
Really stuck now - don't know what to do.
I have TWRP backup of 10.3.3 before I did the upgrade - but doesn't seem like it can be restored, and now I don't know if there's anything I can do to mount Data partition again?
What can I do?
Do I have to basically factory reset the phone? Any suggestions?
TIA!

If you still have the cellular and wifi problem then you are not alone. Simply flashing android 9 image via edl mode and installing update to android 10 locally fixed for me. As you boot to 9 don't turn on wifi or cellular just download the update packages via pc, copy to internal storage then local update via system updates. Once you are on android 10 then install TWRP and root. TWRP backup only work if your data partition is decrypted.

Hi,
Just a suggestion, was in this predicament before and the the thing that save me was my OTG USB stick with a USB C adapter, moved the latest rom(full rom 2.4gig) to it with TWRP installer , wiped( factory reset in twrp and installed the full update followed by TWRP installer. Reboot into recovery and did the same steps,
Reboot system,
Could never get MSM to work always param preload nonsense.... LOL.

I'm not sure what you did.
How I normally upgrade is:
1. Local install
2. Install Magisk after OTA option
3. Reboot
4. Local install again, the other slot
5. TWRP zip install from Magic (do not reboot)
6. YOU ARE NOW UNROOTED.
7. Use Magisk Manager to do direct install (do not reboot)
8. Use Magisk Manager to do OTA install
9. Now reboot.
You have same firmware, TWRP and root on both slots.
If you can flash the stock boot image from 10.3.4 you can recover.
Thanks for all the replies.
I wish I could have done what Tech_Head wrote, but it wasn't happening for me.
I couldn't flash using OTG either as I couldn't mount USB with TWRP.
In the end, I was able to get back to life using the Fastboot flash method from This Thread, but, also not without complication

Question Stuck in BootLoop, unable to flash boot.img via TWRP or ADB

Hi, I run LineageOS 19.1 on my Vayu. It is obviously unlocked and I have Rooted it with Magisk.
I have put off updating the System but did it just now through the Updater in the Settings. From 20220916 to 20221104.
I ran into a Bootloop and went into Fastboot, installed TWRP with ADB sideload. (Had stock Recovery before)
I then tried to just revert back to 20220916 (which was not so smart). I tried to sideloaded the boot.img, but it showed "failed".
--> Still in Bootloop after Rebooting
Now I am unable to flash any boot.img or boot at all.
I tried to flash something else (Magisk.zip), which worked. I have removed all magisk modules, tried to boot with
magisk --remove-modules.
Does anyone have any Ideas? I don't really want to Reset my Phone, even though I have abundant Backups.
Thank you )
Moving back to old version almost all the times is not possible without full reset, new version contains new scripts and possibly new files, how would you explain this for system?
By flashing old version over new one, you probably messed up your system, might as well just backup your data and start from scratch.
