AM Radio Not Working, Only FM Radio - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

I have Klyde PX5 MTCE headunit with dedicated DSP. FM radio is working well but AM Radio does not have any signal, does not detect any station when scanning. I only hear hiss..
What is the possible solution? Is this hardware or software problem? I'll highly appreciate any help.
Here are the dmesg and logcat.

Thanks

Anyone?
This is maybe a minor issue but very frustrating for me who usually listens to the AM radio as part of my daily routine.

Update:
Seller sent me a new radio module. Unfortunately, it is still not working. Then fortunately, I suddenly have an idea of connecting the "Auto Antenna Control" wire of the HU to the "Remote Antenna" pin of my car's harness. Suprised me that it fixed the AM radio. Works really great. The FM radio signal also improves significantly.
Seems the "remote antenna" provides power, sort of booster, to my car's stock antenna.

Can the FM receiver be used as a TMC?

I'm wondering if the RDS data output of the FM receiver can be redirected to a virtual COM port to be used as a TMC receiver with GPS programs like destinator 7.
Strange mate!
even if it was possible then the reviewer said that it only worked when the headset was connected guess it act the role of antenna would be bothersome to have the wiredheadset hanging while using it as gps
Hi Rudegar, great to see the red/white flag ;-)
Headset vs. FM antenna can be handled software wise.. eg. on Eten G500
As soon as headset is plugged a popup asks to redirect sound to ext. speaker for navigation purpose.
As for the TMC / FM radio in HTC products.. (Polaris, Artemis etc.).. Haven't seen a solution yet, RDS is supported in both products, so if TMC mesages runs on the default RDS stream it should be technical possible.

I don't think that this could be a problem: I'm thinking on connecting the device in my car with a "Y" connector, one of the outputs to the sound system (car radio) and other to a power system. It is easy to connect the car antenna with a capacitor to the sound line.
Then the Device will be connected to a external headeset, with good antenna capacity, and at the same time to the car power.

Yes, TMC is only a filtered data stream of the RDS network. Obviously it will be needed to know the correct RDS chain that works in each country for TMC, but it is only information.
The question is: Is there any known way to extract online information of the RDS data from the FM receiver programatically?
I can do a program that attach to any API or hardware interface and present the data in a virtual port.

Well, i can't help you too much but i remember that some time ago, perhaps a year ago, hackers been cheating on RDS and people been foolish when reading on their car radios notices like "alarm because of ..." . I don't remember also wich country, perhaps Australia or Usa.

I also remember that, but I'm talking of the opossite side of teh RDS: Trafic information is sent like these RDS hackers sent their "information" but in a data format called TMC. Inserting this RDS transmited-TMC coded information into some GPS navigation software helps the software to create optimized routes.
I've seen the Polaris manual and the FM receiver is RDS compliant, then the RDS data transmited over the FM modulation is decoded iniside the Polaris and shown in the screen. But: If we could extract these RDS information from the decoder and make it available in a serial virtual port, then GPS navigation software running in the polaris could take advantage of it.
I need the FMS_API.DLL, then there is TMC/TMC Pro !!!
from what I've read most navigation software support combined gps/tmc on the same com port. this means someone should extract also the gps data and combine both...
At least Destinator 7 supports two separate comports for GPS and TMC.

it must be changed gpstmc.dll. but the FMS_API.DLL penetrate needed!!!
IGO 8 supports TMC too with different data port.
igo 8 autodetect polaris as tmc
cant find a station though... i think in spain tmc use am not fm
Can you please explain step by step how to do this ? Cause it doesn't looks likes igo8 detects any TMC on my Polaris. It just seems to try all ports and protocols available in it and claims it "TMC device not found" at the end.
Forgot to mention, the TMC protocols available for selection in the igo8 version i did this attempt on are:
GNS
Royaltek
Eten
Amaryllo
Open TMC v1
Open TMC v2
Ngai Lik
Samsung
Fx
AVANTEQ
There is NO TMC support for our POLARIS
There is NO TMC support for our POLARIS
The hardware is not there!
Demodulating the RDS data is all that hardware is supposed to do, the rest can be done by software. Polaris got an FM radio receiver that seems to show the station names. The only place it can get those names from is an RDS stream, so it is already doing the demodulation of that !

If still interested, here there is a nice original HTC test package (from the Diamond) containing test FM dll and exe.
Works on Cruise too, and looks more flexible than standard FM radio application. Maybe this code is more useful than standard ROM one.
*BUMP*
Any progress? i'd love to have this on a blackstone.

Raphael + Bluetooth + car stereo

I'm having problems using my Raphael in combination with a JVC KT-BT1 car stereo.
When, for example, I'm running TomTom, and the phone is connected to the car stereo, all sound is sent to the car stereo through A2DP. No problems there, BUT: the start of each route description is cut off. It looks like the connection has to be set up every time TomTom says something.
One way to solve this is to keep for example a media player running in the background, so that the A2DP connection 'stays alive'. This is however obviously not a nice way to fix this.
I must say that I've had the very same problem with my previous phone (N95), so I'm kind of suspecting it to be a stereo's problem. However, I do hope someone else has come across this issue and knows how to fix this.
Is there a 'A2DP_keep_alive = true' setting somewhere?
Thanks!
There was a setting for this afaik, it is somewhere in the Hermes section. I tried it, but it has a downside as well (although maybe there's a fix for that as well). It has to do with redirecting sound over bluetooth and keeping that connection open.
Having a carkit myself, I wanted to use it like this: the radio plays and whenever a direction is needed, tomtom would announce it via the car speakers. However, in my case, when tomtom announces via the speakers, the radio mutes as the carkit takes over.
When using the hack where the "connection" is kept open, the carkit takes over all the time, which basically means no music from the radio.
If your carkit can work alongside the radio at the same time, then maybe this is a solution for you.
Check out (in hermes forum, so not 100% if it works for Raphael):

or
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=300268 (which refers to BTaudio: http://www.davidmays.com/blog/?postid=6 )
If there's a better fix I'd like to know as well.
Thanks, but unfortunately it didn't change a thing.
If there's so few people having this problem, I'm really suspecting my car kit...
I have a parrot CK3100 btw, so it happens with a different carkit as well.

Bug with the FM Radio

My FM Radio is full of bugs and the FM reception is very bad.
Is it working OK for you ?
What sort of bugs ?
no problems here...
Thanks for the answers...
The bugs are the following : sudenly the sound start to skip every 10 seconds.
Finally I cannot control the radio anymore. If i click on another radio station it will refuse to change....
Have you installed other softwares ?
I had same issue with external antenna for TMC...with original earphones acting as antenna there are no problems.
Im enoyed by th problem that i cant name the radio stations?! and it doesnt save the stations? only if i start it wil save, but if is exit its gone?? ot is it just me with air in my head?
I have to say that I don't think the reception is very good on this device - don't know if it is HW related or software related - but my X1 had a far better reception. I'm going to try the headphones from my X1 tomorrow and see if that helps the reception.
Update: Tried the X1 earphones on the HD2 and they didn't make any difference. Sat on my train with the X1 plugged into one ear and the HD2 plugged into the other - both set for 93.5 Radio 4 - and there is a world of difference. The HD2 - just doesn't pick up the broadcast signal well enough.
Confirmed,
After saveral days of test, it appears that the FM reception is really bad on the HD2.
Had no problem before with my HD1.
No FM radio at all
My FM radio even refuses to start at all. I just have the Windows icon moving for a while and then it aborts.
Or pressing any button or menu does the same. I am also using the headphone coming with the HD2 and others and it makes no difference.
Found out that this is a different problem, it was bound to a TT installation and required a factory reset to fix it. Works fine noe
Even after a hard reset, still have some troubles with this FM radio.
It works better now, but sometimes it refuses to change the channel. I have to turn off the radio and start it again to make it work.
fm radio work verry good for me

Can you shed some light on what the problem was you found to do with the TT installation. Do you mean Tomtom?

Hi, What is your radio prt ? I'm runing 2.06.51.07
i am not alone, my FM scan for chanel but dont find anything, i must set manual but the reception is real bad
same here, nothing to find
Whatever the ROM I tried, the problem is still here also....
FM radio works 5 minutes.
Bad reception.
Then kind of skip every 5 seconds exactly.
No way to change the FM radio station.
Crashes.
I guess FM Radio is an issue on the HD2. The proof is that xda's Power Radio soft does not work on the HD2.
Only solution, report this bug to HTC I think....
My Radio cannot work.
When I tap on the FM Radio icon, nothing happens.
Can anyone help, please?
Could be arial
Newbie here: - read the thread - tried to scan with provided earphones - bad result - nothing found
Tried with another set - same result
tried with Sennheiser headphones - found 10 stations - reasonable reception
I agree. FM Radio reception is poor compared to my N95 8gb. Also, I experienced same problem as you (10secs skip, freeze and so on).
Best solution: report to HTC.

[Q] O2 Serra/Touch Pro FM radio tuner

Hi,
I've been trying to get the FM radio tuner working on my O2 serra which currently has radio version 1.14.25.32 on it. The tuner does work, but the reception is extremely poor and I have tried various different headphones, but none show any improvements. The thing is, I remember it working better than it does now, basically it seems to have degraded, but I don't know at what point, I'm not sure if flashing newer radio versions has affected it at all and therefore I have a couple of questions:
1) Does the radio version actually affect/control the BlueTooth/FM/wifi chip ?
2) Are there any settings or registry entires that can be changed to improve the reception ?
3) Is there a better radio version I should be using ?
When I start the FM radio app. there is a ot of static and the signal strength is full up and I can hear faint radio stations, it won't auto tune in to anything accept my FM transmitter use in the car, even then the signal strength only goes up to the 4th bar.
Sorry for all the basic questions but I've searched and read lots on here but nothing to really answer these question directly.
Regards,
Andy
P.S. I'm actually trying to get TMC working with hypergps, but the reception is making it useless. I even tried it connected to my car antenna with some improvement, but nowhere near enough.
