I think this functionality is software based.
wow thats nice ..
too bad not many services provider want to invest in it. there are not just iphone and pixel series which can adopt e-sim. but most of the android phone can enjoy this.

Same. My carrier supports only iPhone 11 phones. I wonder why they don't support others too

I am looking to buy this phone if I know Lenovo will create Android OS for it. PCmag said Android N is coming to this phone but I heard Lenovo had a history of abandoning its phones. Is this true? Do you think lenovo will abandon this model after the initial hype?
It's a new phone under the Project Tango tag so I think it won't be that quickly abonded.
I have the same concerns. I am coming from a Nexus phone so I am used to all the updates.
On one hand I also look at this as a Project Tango phone so I would expect support to continue. But I also still as the release date comes closer see it advertised as only Android 6. Google also has a history of dropping support for programs that do not gain traction. And finally I actually find it a little odd that we don't hear anything new from Google when they just had their Pixel announcement which I in turn am also surprise did not have a dual camera setup.

I too am coming from a Nexus device. Official updates have never been must for me, but development support has been. Hopefully being the first Tango phone will attract some of the devices community to the device. Anyone know Lenovo's track record with unlocking bootloader/releasing sources?

The Pixl according to some "reviewers" may be one of the best camera phones ever, but as far as updates I don't see the Phab Pro 2 getting left behind just yet..I think you should expect updates and Google and Lenovo have been working on the Tango project for about 2 years.
Yeah I think we should expect a Nougat update, and maybe the next major update after that.

eee... what?
Is there any chance for Redmi Note 9 Pro Global to get Miui 12 soon ?
I know many people are sick and tired of questions like this but we users are also sick and tired of waiting.
Nobody's giving any date and we must assume that Redmi (Xiaomi) really doesn't know either.
This may very well effect my decision to buy or not to buy a Xiaomi phone next time.
And they shouldn't trust the numbers now telling that Xiaomi is the #3 phone manufacturer... That will change if they do this kind of sloppy things to users who trusted their seamless upgrade policy !
Period.
Why do you want Miui12? Miui11 works perfect.

Really?
But why was 12 invented then?
Why do we get (or don't) a new version every year?
Why is there a new Android every year?
Why are there new phone models every year?
Perfect?

miui 12 will arrive, you just have to be patient. Xiaomi makes so many phones and it is difficult to have an optimized operating system for all devices

It arrived. But with gaps in the system. Some previous functionality doesn't work, it's only a stabile beta, incremental 683 MB.
To whom it may concern;
Regarding to the "so many phones..." argument I would like to to say :
1. Obviously not my fault. Wasn't my decision to create a new model every week and flood the market.
2. Nobody told me that I had to stay in a line to get updates in the ads before I bought my device. Is it even my device? Do I own it? I'm not sure. Because I have to beg and stay (again) in line for hundreds of hours just to bypass the bootloader lock. So, did I buy it or did Xiaomi lend me the device so that I can use it under the conditions Xiaomi imposes on me?
3. If you earn money from stuff you gotta invest in product support too. Not only making easy money and run.
4. If you combine socialism and capitalism, the only ones being hurt are the people. And that's even worse than pure capitalism itself if you care about socialism.
5. Getting #3 globally isn't something to be proud of. That can change any moment if you hurt the PEOPLE, no matter which nationality... Beware.
6. Treat people like USERS and not as a bunch of naive, stupid FANS or CONSUMERS.
Regards.

Im currently lokking for a new phone to replace my Xiaomi Mi Mix 3. I was really disappointed to see mod support drop after a couple of months after release so this became a factor considering when buying a new device.
Which smartphone got the most regularly updated custom roms?
Which productline is known for longtime support?
Which company is known to support modding?
Best Regards

I agree, of all phones in the past the Google Pixel received the most custom development and custom roms.
Of today's generation, I think the OnePlus 6T might be contender. That thing is a tank and great to develop for.
ok thank you guys
Nexus's had many in it's day! Now the OnePlus series does well...
I have a Nokia 8 rn, and it is a good and full of features phone which still has an very good active ROMs and recoveries development. I just wanna buy a new phone in the future, bc my battery is (almost) dead ) could you guys tell me some good and affordable phones which have some good specs "hyper"active development, with many ROMs and, of course, with an easier way to unlock the bootloader(Nokia 8 has only some paid services for doing this)?
Thanks a lot!

Yeah but I can't buy it : is about 800$ in our country even if I want to buy it second hand
4a looks nice, going on my search now
I'm more accustomed to CN MIUI so there are lots of features I want from it such as permission logging, permission masking etc.
However I still need GMS so I chose the global version from a seller that happens to sell it cheap.
I've contacted Xiaomi CN support and this phone is one of the rare cases of a sub flagship phone that doesn't have GMS in CN rom. (most sub to full flagship xiaomi phones' CN roms have built in GMS in recent years, since around Mi 9). Even its near identical twin the redmi k40 has GMS built in on CN versions, very weird. From the way they talked i do not think it will be updated to include built in gms.
The situation is even more weird as this phone already has global version. which usually guarantees built in gms in CN version. Already registered paperwork with google etc.
As to the blackshark's own customer support? absolute GARBAGE and disappointment, absolute douche bags, i can't believe they treat their own turf customers like this. The staff has no knowledge of phones.
I'm not sure if there's even an EU version for this phone but it seems like a great balance with gms and CN based rom.
I hope devs release EU ROM for our phone

actually don't mix miui and joyui, they operate completely separately. Xiaomi customer support is very enthusiastic when providing all kinds of technical information and support, they are very well known in china for providing support for even the most technical inquiries to even non-devs. I ended up getting definitive answers about blackshark from Xiaomi customer support. Blackshark however feels more like just a marketing company
