How to make camera record video in 4K - Samsung Galaxy A7 (2018) Questions & Answers

Like in the title. I can choose only 1080p, how do I set recording to 4K?

There is no 4k recording. Try Open Camera app, but why you want to record videoin 4K?

4K looks way better on TV and PC.

First of all we should hope for some developers to create a camera mod that will allow use to record in 4k and in 1080p 60fps.
Samsung at the moment doesn't allow the a7 to record nothing other than 1080/30fps, maybe in the future we will see something(april 2019, android pie release).
The camera sensor shouldn't have any problem to record in 4k cause you only need a 9mpx sensor to record in 4k, as specs said we have a 24 mpx camera behind our phone, even more we have already slow-mo(720/120fps) and super slow-mo(should be 960fps?) features. Those features let us know that the camera is able to record at high framerate.
A user reported that our main camera is a SCAM, to him the camera is a 8mpx interpolated to 24mpx, THAT IS THE WORST THING EVER.
So first of all we should find out which camera sensors we have onboard.

@maury121
That's Sony_IMX576 propably. I checked that with Phone INFO app.
Look: https://www.deviceranking.pl/camera-sensor/158/sony-imx576-exmor-rs
I don't know if thats exactly the same sensor, but guess Samsung would not lie us like that.

So it looks like we have a sensor that other manufacturer used as a selfie camera.
Still, it's able to shoot 120fps and very high fps(880fps, in real for only 400ms for a total of 385fps, tested it myself), so if only some glorious developer put his work on a camera mod to enable all those amazing features it would be an amazing phone.
I really don't understand how samsung won't allow users to record in 4k with a 24mpx sensor, my old oneplus could record in 4k, that's really bad.

I hope they will add 4K support in the march update.

They will not, if they do that you woldn't need to buy the A9, that has the same sensor of the A7 and it can record in 4k30fps.

You can 3K in 30fps and 1080/60fps on Galaxy A7
I am using this device for a long time. And I am looking for and app that can record 4k and 1080 in 60fps.
BUT I FOUND SOMETHING INTERESTING!!!
If you use GCam, you can record in 60fps in 1080p.
And if you download filmic pro app then you can shoot in 3K 30fps. But I want 60fps somehow in filmic pro app. But the GCam can 60fps record in 1080p is quite good but sometime its do lag.

port xzs camera and 960fps

hi guys I've this thing in my mind since long. Since xz n xzs have same processor only 1 gig ram difference. Is it possible for the devs to port the same 960fps feature to our Xperia xz? Damn it would be great!
Dude take a read about new lens it's impossible to have a 960 fps on XZ. Off top.

The camera module is different, our camera can only support 120fps if I remember it correctly.
You can try it with xnext camera:

What's special about this camera? And btw is there anyway I can remove the cross icon from signals bar? In noughat, it's very annoying!

As per Sony, the sensor in XZs is a memory stacked sensor which provides higher data transfer rate to support the amount of data for 960 fps. I haven't come across the cross icon, can you capture the screen for it?

Video quality

Your friends are never going to believe what you did. The only way to prove it to them is with that video you took. Rate this thread to express how videos shot on the Xiaomi Mi 9 come out. A higher rating indicates that videos are smooth (and not choppy) and that auto-focus works very well, and that the camera adjusts quickly to different lighting conditions while recording.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Coming from a Mi Mix 2S I can not stress enough how great the Video quality is on this Phone. Smooth 60FPS in a 4K Video and very fast and crisp autofocus makes this camera a joy.

The Mi 9 does suffer from judder in 4K 30fps which are a result of missed frames.
This has also been confirmed on dxomark review
Hopefully this can be fixed in a software update

For some reason the videos look worse on YouTube then on my 4K Samsung TV. This may due to the way YouTube processes those dropped frames, during its conversion process.
This needs to be fixed as its a big disappointment.
The Snapdragon 855 has more than enough power to handle 4K at 30fps with AI stabilisation but the Mi 9 lack of OIS could be the reason why it struggles during panning
The video is EXTREMELY SHAKY - EIS seems nonexistant.
- Audio is 14/20 (concert recording ok, quieter scenes a bit less nice)
EDIT:
- This is due to limitations on 4K60
- EIS is good on 4K30 - but then there are dropped frames.
I dislike the EIS implementation of Xiaomi (so called stabilization) on the Mi 9. It crops the image and you loose sharpness over stabilization. If you turn it off you also have a wider view.
My other phone (Mi 9 SE) the EIS is less agressive, so the crop is less perhaps due to the lesser cpu. The actual image looks better because it is sharper, detailed and has a wider view. The problem is that EIS causes judder when panning because the software is not optimized and more judder with lesser cpu. I actually prefer that they implemented the EIS on the Mi 9 with less cropping.
Strange is that I disable stabilization on both Mi 9 and Mi 9 SE but the video is still sharper and more detailed on the Mi 9 SE.

To be noted that now Gcam supports EIS in 4k 30 fps and 60 fps with much less cropping.

The stabilization is not as slider smooth as MIUI cam, though. I'd still prefer to disable EIS and have my gimbal for serious video recording.
Its excellent actually thanks to the new GCAM mod by urnyx05. It supports 100Mbits 4K 60fps videos with working video stabilization!! Working video stabilization on 4k 60fps is really uncommon. Non of the flagships have it nor even iPhones support it.

Actually, many of today's flagship can stabilize [email protected] including but not limited to iPhone 11 series, Samsung S20 series, even OPPO Find X2 Pro can do it as well. Xiaomi isn't left behind as Mi 10 series can do it, unfortunately as typical Xiaomi, they don't backport many features to older devices.

Hi, can you please point out which version of the GCam you're talking about? I've been looking for ways to get at least 1080p 60fps with EIS on my Mi9 but no luck so far..

How to get 4K video on Gcam? I only get 1080p max

HI, people, Realme 5 Pro owner here.
The highest video resolution on my Gcam is 1080p and I don't have an option for 4K video.
How to get the 4K option?
I tried installing Gcam v6 and Gcam v7 - same deal on both. They both do not offer 4K video.
By the way, is there any app out there that would allow me to have EIS on 4K video?
Anyone with an answer?
I was just wondering how do most people get 4K video on their Gcams with Realme 5 Pro.
Do I have to mess with root access? Anything that I am missing here?
Also, my Gcam does not support 48 Megapixel photos... The largest I can go on the rear camera is 8 Megapixel. It also crashes when I try to shoot slow motion.
What a mess! There are so many problems with this thing... I am starting to regret buying the phone.
Same question here. ?

IMX586 Sensor 4k and 1080p @60fps or not?

So I got my Xiaomi mi 10 ultra and I love it.
But what I don't understand is that sensor under the telephoto 5x lens.
It is an Sony IMX586 which is a pretty decent Sensor. I am happy with the picture quality so far.
But video.. something weird is going on here:
In xiaomis camera App i was not able to make 4k or 1080p 60 fps videos with the 5x tele.. the smaller, not as good sensor of the ultra wide (12mp got no more specific info) is capable of 1080p60.
The IMX586 is a good sensor. Other phones are using 4k 60fps with it. Even a new Drone got the sensor and is capable of 4k90fps.
Why is xiaomi not letting me film in 60fps 4k or 1080p?
Is there a way to get this work in gcam or ultracvm?

Gcam can't enable [email protected]

I always used Gcam for photography and videos because it enhances photos and stabilize videos but the most important feature for me was recording 4K videos at 60 fps, originally the MIUI cam can't record at that fps but somehow
Gor the Gcam it's possible. Today i just switched to a custom ROM wich is Corvus OS, i installed Gcam but i was surprised it can't record at 60 fps cuz it's showing error.
It's 89% something related to software a.k.a the custom rom, becs when i switch to the stock rom, the [email protected] is working perfectly.
Anyone has an idea about this, is it possible to enable 4K @60fps without switching to Stock ROM ?

It's because of sensor, not software. IMX 682 sensor supports maximum 4K 30fps & it's slightly worse version than IMX 686 sensor which supports 4K 60fps.
That means that it's hardware issue, not software.

Thats weird, that was what i thought until i saw these phones specs.
Realme GT
Realme X7 Max
ZTE Axon 30
Xiaomi Mi 10T
All say they use the IMX 682 and all support 4K/60
So what is going on here? Is it the sensor? Is it the soc? Is it just marketing? Did some manage to overcome the harware limitations?
Assuming the sony specs are true. The only thing i can think of is :
a) If imx682 its capable for 1080p /120 then theoretically it could record 2k/60? and then use an upscale trick or something?
b) Using a trick in realtime or in post-process to convert 30 to 60fps with a fast soc (MEMC style)
(i don't know if or how how pixel binning can be applied in video recording so i'm leaving this out)
I have so many questions
EDIT: there is a discussion about the IMX582/586 here https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/4k-60fps-with-gcam.4265067/

In the time of the posting I thought like that, but still, POCO F3 with IMX582 can record 4k 60fps with Gcam, but it has some micro stuttering. Which also could mean that sensor is not fully capable of it. It can be the same case here.

S870 can handle it, so it's not because of that. Camera sensor probably misses the buffer power to deliver 100% smooth 4k 60fps. But it's better still than 30fps.

Yes i mean it works with some dropped frames but you also need a SOC that can do it. I have seen that Poco X3 Pro can do it but on Poco X3 with 732G it seems a no go because of the SOC limitation.
Sorry for my bad English.
