Camera test dxomark, highest score 109 - Huawei Mate 20 X Guides, News, & Discussion

This is not test of 20x camera, but 20 pro. However 20x has same camera setup and hopefuly same software with kirin 980, so should have same quality.
Outstanding.

With this ugly video quality and ugly faces detailes in auto and portrait
You canr get over 109

i think huawei ask to remove the score previously, so p20 pro can sell, and then now they show the score again with lower result and same as p20, hmmm

Note that the wide angle lens wasn't a part of the test.

Selfie quality

You're beautiful and everyone knows it. That's why you take selfies. Rate this thread to express how the front-facing camera of the Honor 9 performs. A higher rating indicates that the front camera produces fantastic results consistently.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
selfies are great, adequate details plus descent dynamic range
Superb selfie quality. Got it to test and the photosmare outstanding.
My front camera is mediocre and i don't know why? Is it due to the B130 update? Look what a selfie look like, help me please this is ly first time using a honor device and i don't know if this is the real quality or my device has a problem, here 2 selfies one in daylight and the other indoor

Please can you post a selfie indoor and one in daylight so i can compere with mine , i think my front camera is really awful
Oh no! My instagram followers are going to know I bought a mid range phone..... Wish it had a 50megapixel selfie camera!
Sorry for the abuse... Turn off the portrait mode. Its the icon top centre when you switch to selfie mode. It over processes everything.
I also have to say that Selfie cam is pretty decent as long as I deactivate portrait modus and Bokeh effect. Beauty effect is ugly and Bokeh does not work seamless with background. Maybe there are some tricks but I guess it is only SW and will probably get optimized in further updates.

i turned off the portrait mode and the bokeh effect and still looks like a 2MP selfie even in daylight , i think it's a software problem
I know I am a relic but my first phone had a 0.3megapixel camera so its all good to me.

Also, mine is from china, with the chinese rom removed and European rom installed. I haven't had the B130 update pushed to me yet. Think I will steer clear of it. After years of android phones, I have only found incremental updates to break features that were working just fine beforehand and in general, cause serious issues whilst fixing trivial ones.

I think you got a point here.
With indoor lighting the selfie quality is quite terrible. I rarely take selfie so that doesn't bother me much.
P10 has a 1.9 aperture front camera which should produce a bit better selfie. Honor 9 on the other hand has a 2.0 aperture lens which should explain why it struggled under low lighting conditions.
Excellent selfies quality....

Blunt pictures with few details even in daylight. I've tried everything and still the same results. Few people are reporting the same problem. So i want to compare it to other selfies to see. I don't know if it's software or hardware related
Honor 9
Just like the Huawei P10, the Honor 9 features a dual camera setup, which consists of a 20MP monochrome sensor and a 12MP RGB one, each of these behind its own 27mm-equiv. f/2.2 aperture lens. There is also a dual-tone LED flash. This is the same camera setup we saw on the Huawei P10 and Mate 9, minus the Leica branding. This means you won't be getting the proprietary Vivid and Smooth film modes. Manual monochrome mode is not available just like on previous Honors - it is reserved only for the P series, but this is a silver lining we are happy to live with.
While the 20MP and 12MP resolutions don't match, the engineers have come up with an ingenious solution of how to use them and the snappers work just fine in the hybrid modes.
When you're shooting color, the Honor 9 blends the footage from the monochrome camera with the one from the RGB camera with the goal being, you guessed it, to produce better images. The high-res 20MP monochrome camera records luminance data as reportedly, that's where most of the fine detail is, while the lower-res 12MP camera provides the color to go with the detail. That way you can opt for 20MP color photos, a big leap from the 12MP default resolution.
In addition to the Variable Aperture effects, the Honor 9 camera supports Portrait Mode, which combines the Variable Aperture bokeh affect with Beautification, and should offer some nice Portrait shots with bokeh effects. The selfie snapper has been upgraded with f/2.0 lens, and while there isn't a second sensor, Huawei has found a way to create bokeh here as well.
Finally, Huawei introduces Live Photos with this new iteration of the Huawei camera app - it's a short 3s video taken shortly before you've hit the shutter, and it plays when you tap and hold on the image - no 3D Touch required.
The camera interface takes a bit of getting used to, as we've previously noted. There are two panes with options that can be evoked from the left and the right edge of the viewfinder. The left one brings forward the mode selector, while the menu coming from the right edge is the settings menu. The two panes don't just slide out with a simple swipe; you need to practically pull them through half the screen for them to stick, which doesn't always happen on the first try, particularly in landscape.
@mobilepriceshop, please stop. You're just copy pasting.
Selfies is a great quality, and looked nice!
8MP (3264X2448) 4:3 Max Quality
The Honor 9 takes some really high quality selfies. Just as good as the Honor 10.

OnePlus camera for Nokia 6

So here's the OnePlus camera for the Nokia 6, for those who want it.
It seems to be working fine but here's a list of issues I've found in this version :
1) Video isn't working properly, says there's an error.
2) Same with slow motion. Doesn't seem to work.
3) Couldn't see any difference with HDR off and On.
4) Panorama doesn't start properly.
BUT HERE'S A GOOD THING!
The Professional Mode is working perfectly. There's a histogram and all. In Pro mode, everything seems good and we have full manual control of the camera. So ISO, Shutter speed, Manual focus and White Balance and all that is working properly and the results are decent. Swipe up from below to see the options and to go Pro Mode.
Kinda disappointed cos Nokia 6 hardware only allows 0.6s slowest shutter speed but it's still good enough for casual photography I guess.
Anyway, install, test and have fun!
Have you tried Adobe Lightroom it's good too

The highest and lowest shutter speed remains same in all camera apps for the Nokia 6. The highest shutter speed for this phone is 1/8000 and the slowest is 0.6s.

Oh, Thanks... Is it possible to increase the shutter speed?
ASUS Zenfone 3 Max uses the same processor as Nokia 6 and can take pictures with 32 second exposure.
Is it better to take Nokia 6 with its Google camera compatibility or Honor 8 Lite which has 8 second exposure?

No, I don't think it can be increased. It's fixed for this phone. But you can do Light Painting with ProShot. And Google camera performance is pretty decent with HDR. But of course a slower shutter speed is better. For some people anyway. I personally prefer slower shutter speeds. For night time and long exposure photography.

Thanks! Is the light painting mode in ProShot is the same as that in honor 8 Lite? I have in mind could achieve effects such as silky water, light trails, star trails, etc?And could light painting mode can be used simply for lighter night shots, not for any of these effects?
Here's an example.

I'm not sure about the Honor 8 Lite since I haven't tried it but yes, normally, light painting can help with silky water effect and such. You'll obv need a tripod tho cos light painting is very tricky. On this phone with Proshot anyway. It can produce good results, but It's still not better than a slower shutter speed.
Here's an example of what I did with a laser pointer and Light Painting. As you can see, the flow in that picture is broken and you'll have to move the pointer really slowly for it to be continuous. Idk if it's Proshot in general or the phone's HW, but yeah that's how it is.
If you're into photography, I'd say go for the slower shutter speed.
I tried uploading the image but it's not working. So here's a link for the image :

I've already seen this video but I don't know is there a difference between the honor 8 and the Lite version? I mean the build quality, if the same, the phone is good.
The new version of OP Cam allows to shoot with 10s of shutter speed but it does not work on Nokia. Are there any one who can mod it for working?

Mate 20 Pro x P20 Pro camera

Based on this video, which photos did you find the best? I found those of P20 Pro more natural. And you?
https://youtu.be/6QCR56IR3_8
I think they are more or less the same. The differences are color temperature, saturation etc which honestly are easy fixes with the right photo editing software.
Just wait for p20 pro pie update... than we can talk about camera...
Both are very similar...
I hope P20 series can get the super macro feature from this mate 20...although i am not sure if it is a hardware or software question.
These videos are fake. No one has the phone for such comparisons yet.
Yea they're fake, don't bother looking on youtube for photo comparisons.
As both devices features the same main 40mpix sensor and only differ in software processing the output should be very similar, except for the Mate 20 Pro featuring a HDR RAW mode where it stacks multiple RAW shots into one for increased dynamic range and detail rendering. Except for that it should be about the same.

But I think it’s just a naming thing. The focus didn‘t change, still 10cm minimal distance with Pie Beta.

Mate 30 Pro is NOT king of camera

Hi to all ?
First of all I have P30 Pro, and last my 2 phones was Mate 20cand P20 Pro. Because thay all are great phones and great camera. So I search new phone with much better camera, don't get me wrong P30 Pro is best in the market for photography but not for video. So I'm searching something good for both. The only thing what can it be is Mate 30 Pro (that what was I aspect).
But in the beginning wierd thing is, they put just Ultra wide angle camera for videography. (this phone spouses to have best video camera, Huawei said that. Every day in every news you can read this). So they put in Mate 30 Pro special sensor for videography. That's sounds good, but results is not good at all. And they put the smallest "ultra wide angle camera in market for now"!!! Sorry DXO Mark, I can't agree with you this time.
I will post some videos down and I will like to hear your comments.
P. S. I know this is not final software on M30P, and I hope someone will make again new video comparison after final software.
1. Mate 30 Pro vs IPhone 11
2. Mate 30 Pro vs P30 Pro
After these videos I really don't know what to say... ? M30P is very good phone, but camera is even not better then P30 Pro.
I would wait until the phone has been released to the public to make allegations. It's hard when only peeps on YouTube have review devices.
I agree with you completely. I've been waiting for this phone to trade my P30 pro for 2 major reasons....the video quality and the damn color balance.
Unfortunately BOTH will not be addressed. Video quality looks on par with flagships now (especially considering with shooting at a much wider field of view) but at the sacrifice of ultra wide angle!! 18mm? seriously? People need ultra wide angle to capture MORE and they they reducing it from 16mm to 18 mm here!
Also the same sensor without color corrections means I'm stuck with the same color inconsistencies like on my P30 pro. White balance is a joke and 3/4 pics are different, skin tones all unnatural and heavy.
I was seriously planning on sourcing this but as you said, it is by no means king of Camera and far from DXO high horse ratings.
...and I still don't know why they never added auto HDR
The mate 30 pro released early than Huawei expected, most of those early reviews on YouTube are not final version, Dxomark had the latest close to final build installed, according to Huawei CEO thats not the final version, let see the future update... I'll say wait for P40 if you looking for camera big improvement that's what P series focused.
Actually, P series is always the master of camera. Then Mate series. if you want better camera, wait for p40 pro, want better quality and performance, buy mate 30 pro
i just watched the dxomark youtube mate 30 pro video. video quality was very high compare to youtubers . there was a compare in 5lux with note 10 plus. it was clear the winner was mate 30 pro. maybe it needs some patch to software. lets see the final product software then talk. Huawei claimed mate 30 pro it is best in video.

Video better after updates. Can't see choppines while panning left and right anymore
Agreed, video recording seems miles better than what I got from before. I've already had 4 system updates since unboxing the phone last week.

I ditched my P30 Pro for the Note 10 the moment they announced the Mate 30 Pro and confirmed that it will have an RYYB sensor.
The color science is god awful on this sensor, it's way inconsistent, and makes the skin of my kids look pale and dull. My Mate 20 Pro took much better pictures, with vibrant pleasing colors. The night mode on the P30 Pro was also useless, due to the RYYB sensor, the phone would try to correct the colors and 10/10 times, I'll have a green cast all over my pictures.
Even with Google play services, and a much cheaper price, I wouldn't have got this phone, no more RYYB sensors for me.

Same to me. I sell my P30 Pro. Really I can't believe my self. But it was very good price. And I buy Note 10 Plus. I didn't regret. Camera us much better in daylight and indoors. But in no low light but no problem for that, Gcam can fix it

Nothing can beat the P30 Pro and Mate 30 Pro in complete darkness, but honestly, how many times do you take pictures in extremely dim areas? It was a fun trick to try the 1st few days after buying the P30 Pro, but then it was something that I barely used.

Yap, thats is it.

Tint+Color shift+Artifact are problem since P30pro using RYYB.
I'm very confused why they still use RYYB If they can't fix it

You just posted 2 videos as evidence while ignoring alot of other videos out there. BiG bRaIn move right here.
-Green cast only ocurred if you used nightmode, the thing is you get the same result minus green cast with full automode.
-Color Science its way better than the Mate 20 pro.
Having owned both and since updates have arrived it's 100% better than all those phones.
Now I have both Mate 30 pro & Note 10+.. So far I noticed that the mate 30 pro doesn't have auto focus on front cam, my face gets blurry when I take a selfie at a distance of below 50cm from the phone. It sucks for me, or maybe bec I already get used with my Note 10+ which gives me more detail on selfie either close up or not. Why Huawei never fixed it since P30 Pro I think or even earlier.
I'm impressed with the 7680 frames per second in Slow motion video.
Very impressed with the overall photography and video capture of my M30P.
Weekly updates almost once every week on my CN M30P just make it better and better. I have a strong feeling it blows the stock firmware out of the water too.

Is the Note 10 / CC9 Pro still worth it in late 2020 with the new flagship killers?

i'm a heavy RAW photography shooter via the ultrawide lens , and from what i've researched im tempted to get a CC9 pro ~$370 USD and shoot computational RAWs with gcam with it. With this price range, there seems to be a huge explosion of "flagship killers" like the POCO F2 / X3, K30 Ultra, Realme X2/X7 etc. While all of these seem to have really competitive processors like the Dimensity 1000+ being almost equiv to SD865, none of them have as good cameras as the Mi note 10 especially the ultrawide.
It's VERY difficult to find any phone with a good sensor for the ultrawide, phone companies just dont seem to care. The only other one is Huawei Mate 30 pro but it doesnt support google pay and that's a deal breaker.
Is the CC9 Pro my best option...?
Thanks,
Hi, for this price range is for sure the best option. Other competitors better with ultrawide (bigger sensor/ better lens) would be probably closest as you mentioned Huawei Mate 30 Pro, P40 Pro, OP 8 Pro and newest samsung s20 series. Also Xiaomi M10 Ultra seems with same sensor, but updated lens design - providing less distortion and better details.
Do know, when you shoot RAW, gcam or stock cam does not provide distortion correction - so you have to do it afterwards in post-processing software. Love the output from gcam, can manage all preferences and detail, denoise etc. With adequate settings and provided very good light, it is really usable next to my DSLR in photoshoots (don't have wide angle lens). With little post production photos comes astonishing (especially from tripod and night sight astro setting). If you don't raise expectations too high - it won't disappoint!
