What's the RAM management like on MIUI guys?, Looking for a couple of opinions before I make my mind up.
If anyone could post a screenshot of the free RAM on their device too & specify which version they have that'd be great!
8/256, no problems with ram and I think I have about 30 apps open. I bought that because I needed the additional bands for full VZW support.

Thanks for the info!, The only version that's gonna be available in the UK is the 6/128, I was wary on wether to get that or get a 8/128 from China
I'm generally of the opinion that there's no such thing as too much RAM (or internal storage for that matter), hence I bought the 8/256 device. However, for the foreseeable future, 6gb is likely to be more than sufficient, most other manufacturers haven't even reached 6 yet. Multitasking is like night & day compared to my 1gb GS5, I haven't run into any problems with apps being killed, although there's definitely a timing factor involved since FM Radio (when not being used) will eventually be purged from memory when the phone is asleep. I guess it comes down to how worried you are about the warranty, since you'll no doubt be able to get the 8/256 device with a global ROM on the slow boat for a similar (or cheaper) price to UK retail (monthly plan alternatives notwithstanding).
6/128 and no issues at all.

I'm currently on a device now with 6/128 and it's definitely sufficient, it just would be nice to go 8/128 or even 8/256, sites often have additional charges or customs charges or something though & not to mention if I flash the Global ROM on a 8GB RAM variant, I won't be able to lock the bootloader

Why would you want to do something as silly as locking your bootloader anyway??? There's no problem with buying from China, no extra charges, and at least in the US, customs aren't interested in anything under $800, I assume there's a similar limit in the UK.

As this would become my main device, I wouldn't risk having it stolen/lost and the thief/person wiping my phone with ease thanks to me having a unlocked bootloader.

You can still wipe phone with ease with a locked bootloader, and mi account will still block access to phone so unlocking doesn't make much difference.

The phone is registered, probably via its IMEI, to your MI account in Xiaomis databases, probably located somewhere deep in the secure salt mines of inner Mongolia.
Nothing in those databases will be changed by someone wiping your phone.
If they can change the IMEI, all bets are off.
Any 6/128 users able to post screenshots of their free ram in comparison to to ones we have off the 8/128 & 8/256 users

Sammy, in their never-ending quest to make sure they've pissed off every single one of their customers at least once, have decided to region lock their latest model devices. This means for example that you cannot use a European device with an American, Middle Eastern, Asian, ... , SIM card. You'd still be able to use the European SIM all over the world, but you would not be able to use a local SIM card while travelling outside of Europe - which would of course be much cheaper.
Sammy claims you can use any SIM card in the world after you've 'activated' with a SIM card from the region the device is from (in our example, Europe), but this has been proven by various (angry) Note 3 owners to not actually be the case.
The region lock is implemented in the form of a network blacklist. Beware that this is not exactly the same thing as a SIM lock, even though they are somewhat related. This blacklist blocks a number of whole countries and carriers, while a SIM lock whitelists one specific carrier. This app clears the network blacklist (region lock), but it may or may not remove the SIM lock, if present. Some have reported it works for them (for example: T-Mobile US Note3 on AT&T network: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2471742), but this should be considered a side-effect.
While removing the region lock does not necessarily affect the SIM lock, various users have reported that inputting a proper SIM unlock code does remove the region lock as well. You can purchase SIM unlock codes at various places on the internet for 20 bucks or so. A benefit of using such a code is that you do not need to root your device or use this app. If you are not rooting your device already for other reasons, I would personally not root it to just region unlock, and buy an unlock code instead.
Compatible devices
- Galaxy Note 3 SM-N9005 (MI7, MJ1, MJ3 firmwares)
Future
Right now, this has only been tested on Note 3's, and found working. Rumor has it Sammy will be bringing the region lock to a lot of devices, even backporting it to devices sold in the past (aren't there laws against this?). There's no way for me to know at this time if this specific method will keep working on the Note 3, or if it will work at all on other devices. Maybe the app will need updating, maybe Sammy will block this hack altogether, etc. Only time will tell.
In theory this hack can be done without rooting or voiding warranty with some device flashing and app modding, but I'm not currently working on that because it would be highly model-specific and I'm a root user anyway.
Relapse
It is not currently known exactly when the network blacklist is updated. Beware that for example updating your firmware may cause the region lock to reactivate.

Great work this is going to be very useful for many, Samsung should have never put the lock on the first place. We buy an unlocked device only to find it regional locked, shame on them. Do you think it will be permanent or Samsung could patch it?
Thanks, thanks and thanks for this. You are the boss.

I currently have no need to do away with the region lock but I was feeling treated unfair as a buyer of an unlocked phone. So I'm glad someone came up with this. I followed some threads on these forums and so I had good faith that this will happen. Once I've rooted my phone I'll buy you a beer. Cheers.
Great and thanks
I don't know if I am going to needed but still a nice peace of art with thanks again.
I bought specifically the Note 3 to use it in Europe (with european sim) and south america (with south american sim, otherwise I go bankrupt with roaming charges).
I will test it. No need for root right?

Yes, this is what chainfire was saying, but than he said that most likely he will not dig into it because it would be a lot of device specific work and he is a "root guy" anyway.
So here and now and today my understanding is that his app 1.0 needs a rooted device. And this was your question?

my questions are:
- does this program work on a unrooted device
- what happens if I install and run this program on an unrooted device (beside working or not, may it cause damages and/or void warranty?)
I want to know the same thing but unfortunately I think yes this app needs a rooted device. In the video you can see superuser request launching the app.

After three-four days of usage I noticed considerable flicker on the screen.
I have tried factory resetting, turning off auto-brightness, turning off wifi. But nothing worked.
After some googling I have come to know that this is very frequent issue on nexus 5. There is huge number of threads online discussing the same. Below are some:
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=36417
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/o_Hj782Y_aY
http://www.reddit.com/r/Nexus5/comments/2448ws/weird_screen_flickering/

http://community.koodomobile.com/koodo/topics/my_new_nexus_5_screen_keeps_flickering
http://bragnews.com/nexus-5-flickering-screen-fix/
In fact a user comment "#26 ndend.. @gmail.com" on below thread says that he got nexus 5 replaced 5 to 6th time for similar sounding issue:

I prepared a youtube video of my Nexus 5. Here is what is happening with me:
After more googling I came to know that google and LG has made some redesign of Nexus 5 to fix hardware issues, though silently:
http://www.fonearena.com/blog/90868...-issues-with-nexus-5-with-minor-redesign.html
So I believe both Google and LG knows that Nexus 5 has got some faulty design, but not just putting it straight to media but silently pushing the update in new devices.
In fact Google is replacing older Nexus 5 if you screw its screen, surprisingly by suddenly changing its accidental damage protection policy:
http://techcrunch.com/2014/09/03/ye...-replace-your-nexus-5-if-you-bust-the-screen/
Also some sites went on listing some mostly reported issues with Nexus 5:
http://au.ibtimes.com/articles/524834/20131125/lg-nexus-5-top-10-encountered-issues.htm#.VAm5MPldWb8
http://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/nexus-5-problems/#!bP8d5j
Now I can feel that this is because Google want to take back some old design bad Nexus 5 back.
Am not at all a designer or electronics professional but from what I can read from this is that there is something wrong with the design of Nexus 5, something is definitely failing its screen stability, either a hardware issue or driver incompatibility.
I wish I could have realized this earlier before buying one.
Now I am in confusion whether to ask for replacement or refund, since I cant find any other flagship running stock android. The only one - Nexus 5 running stock android has these many issues. Is there any other? My requirements are 5"screen, 2 GB RAM, Quad Core Processor.
just get a replacement, got 3 N5 since release without that problem.
or get a refund and wait for newer nexus, if there are one
p.s. G3 is also a good choice if you don't mind.

if you want, by also googling, you can find that aliens have taken over the earth.
i dont have sich issues with my n5, and the majority dont as well. some of the issues are even non issues. only a very small % actually see real issues. you can find info like this for any product. no device is perfect.

Every mass produced product is going to have some defective units. Even with good QC, they cannot test every single unit thoroughly, it is impractical and would end mass production.
If you want something that will be thoroughly checked over to make sure there are no issues, you will have to pay a company to make a device just for you. That wont be cheap, your couple hundred dollar smartphone just into a couple hundred million dollar smartphone.
Thankfully, when there are genuine defects most companies take responsibility and give you a new one (though again, this will not be perfect with mass production). Companies will have different policies. Also, service reps, technicians, and the myriad of others involved in the transaction will vary (in competence, attitude, etc.).
But, if you have a screen flicker on this phone I do not see why a claim would be denied.
TMOBILE UPDATE!

So, I wonder how Google is going to work out the system partition issue for devices that weren't designed to run dual systems when an update occurs? Interesting thing to consider.
This is all nonsense. The update will come out when it comes out. There are a number of factors that go into the release of an update, none of which can be accurately measured.

Google has already said that seamless updates aren't coming to current and older Nexus devices (http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...e-new-seamless-update-feature-from-android-n/), so I wouldn't expect for any pre-2016/7 device.
Rubbish.
Nougat is incoming according to the T-Mobile website. It will probably be a month or two before it becomes approved and and T-Mo put their bloat on it. But If the website is anything to go by, then yes the V10 is confirmed to receive 7.0. Strange that the G4 will not be getting it...

One thing is true though. LG is one of the fastest to roll out major updates. I recall from my LG G4 was that it was the first phone to receive MM apart from Nexus.
This time around also the G5 is probably their priority. Once LG rolls it out then, T-Mobile is also gonna take their time. So it's gonna take a while.

so on a side note, my v10 just crapped out on me, similar boot loop of death like the g4, i feel like it has a bad ground, it randomly was on charge and started to vibrate continuously and screen froze, i have 3 batterys i tried those but fail, i have really good and bad wires and tried those, some let it into twrp without touch working and some wire allow to twrp with touch working for short time b4 reboot freeze, and one wire allowed to twrp with touch but twrp touch was slow af. literally like 1 hour ago. trying to get my files off internal :/ good day turned to crap, thanks LG
There's really no use in speculating when we'll get 7.0. It'll happen when it happens. We probably won't get it until early next year, so not soon. We definitely won't get it when the v20 does, since it's LG's new darling, and they said it would be the first major Android phone to get Nougat. So of course they want it to be exclusive at first. Hell, LG might even change their mind and leave use stuck with Marshmallow. The v10 is already pretty much dead where development is concerned, why bother continuing to update an older device when there are better things ahead? Looking back on it, had I known in advance that the v10 wouldn't have much development, I probably wouldn't have bought it. This is my first LG and maybe my last. But it still works so I'm going to hold onto it until it dies. Lesson learned, life moves on.

I think so. We will get it somehow. Even if it is the last update I'm fine with it. At least well get some closure and hopefully the software will be similar to the V20. Perhaps the Vietnamese Rom cookers will do a port. I'm using the H960 20m port on my H901.
Second half of the year seems a bit long to wait but maybe there will be a working version of xposed for nougat by then.

I have both the AT&T S8+ (work device) and VZ S8+ (personal). I noticed that the actual "Device optimization" feature that's present in AT&T is not present in VZ model. Has anyone tried copying the apk for this app from AT&T model to a VZ model? I absolutely love that feature on AT&T and am puzzled why it's not there in VZ, but I digress from the main question with this statement.
Thanks
Verizon removes it to get users to buy into their support and protect app. It is controlled through the cscfeature.xml and on Verizon can only get it with root. With csc can also get the Macfee antivirus virus working.

When you start your phone do you still get the Verizon boot up screen? Make sure you used the right files. I'm not sure it has always been smooth with no problems. At least with the unlocked firmware you get all the features Samsung intended (I.E. Samsung Cloud, caller ID, etc.)

Yes, because I applied the wifi calling via a workaround.
I see the device maintenance now, had to switch to simplified view in settings. However, the screen looks different from yours and is missing the device security option.

Yes, because I applied the wifi calling via a workaround.

You could only have one or the other unless there's a different way. If Wi-Fi calling is very important as well as visual voicemail, video calling then stay with the firmware you have now. If you want all the removed features as well as no bloat of course the unlocked firmware.

I don't see it on the unlocked firmware after flashing it. Does the optimization really make a difference?

Personally, I just liked that it was a built in, "Samsung Official" optimizer. For now I'm looking into 3rd party apps until my warranty expires since I want to maintain my warranty for now. Rooting will certainly void that warranty and I'm unsure if flashing firmware will too; better safe than sorry for the time being.

The current rooting method as far as I know does not void the warranty. Switching firmware will not void anything as well since it is the official Samsung firmware. If it did void it I wouldn't have switched to the unlocked firmware.

Yeah, I was able to root.. and while I was rooted, I got the custom unlocked logo on the main boot screen.. but once I flashed back to stock, there is nothing triggered to indicate it was ever rooted. Knox is still 0x0 and the custom logo is gone.
Amazon says its not compatible with verizon
Damn thing has sd slot, 3.5mm jack, bootunlockable.
i want.
USA
What provider in usa supports this device?
Mine is the redmi note 11 pro 5g, but they're the same phone. I connected it with metro by tmobile. it was a deal to connect tho, called once cause the automatic process wasn't recognizing my imei number.
i called once told them it supports their bands and they said they will send a connection request 24hrs later didn't work. Called again they talk to tech support, and said they will force a connection, and it worked, but charged me 20 bucks
I'm having the same run around with metro. Is there anything that you said or or that I should say to get the same thing done? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Tell them you did your research, your phone is unlocked and supports all tmobiles bands, and tell I.t to for a connection. they will charge you 20 bucks tho like they did me, and even if they say some network features won't work just tell them it's fine.
My 5g works, volte works (you have to put in a code in the dialer) texting works, calling, all works great

Awesome thanks again. I will let ya know if it worked or not hopefully soon. This phone is outstanding for what it cost and I'd hate to not use it.

goodluck bro the trick is be persistant and annoy them until you get what you want
(btw i got this less than a month when it came out, so no provider new about this phone here in the us i'm guessing so it was extra tough to get it working)
btw this phone is amazing, i was so scared the first day i got it cause metro wouldn't connect it or any other service provider when i submitted the imei number to test if it was compatible.
but it was all worth the trouble i love this phone
will be tough to switch unless the redmi note 12 pro gets a new game changing feature like wireless charging or curved front glass like their flagships
I've no doubt it was scary. I've had this phone for about a month and I am/was thinking it may have been money down the drain. I am not sure what you mean by curved glass but I had the original lg flex and I loved that phone. Lg really screwed up dropping it. I only gave it up because it was about out of any updates. Most of my apps were staring to not work soook. But kick ass phone. My first xaiomi was the note 8 global and that was all it took.
So I called metro 3 1/2 hour call for the third supervisor to tell me there was nothing she could do and that she would not put in a order for tech support to call me back. She basically said fuq u to me at which point I lost my composure and screamed every last profane name I could out at her till she cut me off. Lol I believe she is still wondering what an inner anal fn zit is. So any thoughts on my next move? Hahaha. I can laugh now but ....
