Backup Gear S3 to pc, not Samsung cloud - Samsung Gear S3

As the title says, I want to backup my Gear S3 to the pc instead of Samsung cloud. Cloud storage is not accessible to the user directly and can inconveniently go down and I'd rather have control of data, apps, watchfaces instead of where I am forced to now.

when you make a backup, does it not store to the phone as default?

All backups to cloud only

I don't know if it's typical of non samsung phones but the backup mechanism in the Gear software only allows me to backup to Samsung's cloud and there no other choice available to me. (That I can see anywhere)

Best Syncing Option

Hi,
i recently updated to 5.0 and lost all my text messages and pictures.
How do i best secure my pictures? Or whats the best way to sync all my important data including texts?
How can i restore my text messages?
Do you have root access? If so, titanium backup is yet to be beaten

I do, i dont know how to restore only my text message db.
With syncing i meant something like google drive, not google+ to store all my phone data
Personally I much prefer hard copies over cloud storage. I'm oldfashioned, I guess.
Or maybe I've just seen it go wrong too many times.
For texts I prefer Sms Backup & Restore. For pictures, a USB cable and a computer. For contacts, contacts>export and follow the images procedure.
If it wasn't synced before you lost it, it's not coming back.

Backup Questions

I have a new phone, Samsung Galaxy J7, with Android 6.01, NOT rooted.I have read a lot of threads about backup, but none that really answer my questions.
Here are some things that I DON"T need backed up--contacts, calendar, e-mail messages, etc. Because I have an Exchange account (also Gmail Imap account), and those items will sync from there. I also would not need a backup app for photos, music, etc. Photos are files on my SD card that I can easily copy to the computer. Music files are first on my computer, that I transfer to the SD card. No need for a backup app for that. Apps themselves need no backup, as they can always get re-downloaded from the app store, and frequently update anyhow.
What I need backup for, is what will not sync from Exchange nor Imap, nor files that can be copied from and to the computer. Mostly settings--the general phone and Android settings, home screens, accounts, etc. (So that if something goes wrong with the phone and all that is lost, I would not have to spend hours setting it all up from scratch, entering account info again, etc. Also helpful-settings for apps.
I installed the Helium app, that reviews say is a good backup app (free version). I do not find it very useful. I have no idea why it makes you connect to the computer, then initiate its desktop app, just to verify the app somehow? But then, it will not backup to the computer! Nor even to the SD card. It does have an option to backup to the cloud with the pro version, but I would rather backup locally. It only backs up to internal phone memory. What use is that if the phone gets messed up and that backup is no longer in internal memory?
Furthermore, I see in Helium no way to backup phone settings, account into, etc. It can backup apps, or only app data. So I backed up the app data, went to a folder in internal memory called Carbon, and I copied that folder to the SD card and external HDD. Yet I do not find that very helpful.
I see that in the OS Settings that Google automatically backs up settings, etc., to one's Google Cloud account. OK. That's good. But I see no way to restore. Only that when one reinstalls an app, it will automatically reinsall the settings for that app. That's good. Perhaps no use for the app settings backup from Helium then. But what if something goes wrong on the phone and my homescreens get messed up? How would automatic restore help that? It is good if Google is automatically saving all my phone settings to the cloud. But if I have no way to manually restore them, what use is that? (Perhaps would work for app settings, as described, but not for phone and OS settings, accounts, etc.)
Could anyone tell me, is there a way to backup the info as I dscribed above, either through an internal feature, or with an external app (that does not requrie root), so that if the phone gets messed up somehow i can quickly and easily restore it to how it was?
(Surprised that Android does not have a feature like System restore in Windows.)
Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
Please tell what you want to know and what is your problem in easy sentences?
Give a Thanks if i helped you!

sohamsen, Thank you for your reply.
I think my question was very clear., I had to give details to make it clear what backup capability I am looking for, as well as details on my phone.. I don't know how I can put it in "easy sentences"? If English is not your main language, might Google Translate help?
If I wrote a simple sentence like "How do I backup my phone"? that would indeed be simple, but would not really explain well what I am looking for.
Anyone else? Thanks in advance.

I am having the same wants, and the link above gives the ability to restore the items I can already backup and restore. Does anyone have any other suggestions for software? I am willing to purchase the software, or use free software. I just am hoping to backup my old apps configurations and files.

Is it possible to move an app from one phone to another without having to re-login?

I'm in a situation where I've lost the login credentials for an app and can't recover them. I just got a new phone (Pixel 5) and need this app on my new phone. However, I cannot just download it from the Play Store because then I will have to log in.
Is there some way I can lift and load the app from my old phone (Samsung S20) to my Pixel and be able to open it up without needing to log in?
Swift Backup should do the trick, if you backup the app + all its data to the cloud and then restore on the new phone

Thanks, this does look like the right idea. However I just synced the app to the cloud (Google Drive) from my old phone and on my new phone it is not showing up. I see no cloud synced backups when I open up Swift Backup on my new phone. They are both connected to the same Google Drive account. Very weird.

On your new phone in swift backup you probably need to change the "backup tag" to the one of your old phone (in the "cloud sync" tab)

Thanks, that was my issue. Unfortunately it seems that you need root access to backup app data as well. I'm on a Verizon Pixel 5 and do not have root Any ideas if this is possible without root with some other app?

[solution found] Backup and restore Samsung notes

Having migrated from note 4, I am heavily dependant on Samsung notes.
Note 4 used to save notes in internal storage >snote as spd file.
I can easily import it on my note 20 ultra via Samsung note app>setting >import data >phone and there is folder with all spd notes.
However I can't find any way to backup and restore s notes created on note 20 ultra.
I can share or save as Samsung notes file with sdocx extension but there is no easy way to mass import it like spd.
Can anyone help?
I'm sure they sync to the Samsung servers automatically as part of the backup process.

I don't have Samsung account nor Microsoft one drive.
Is there a way to batch restore them manually.
SOLUTION FOUND
Install smart switch for mobile from play store.
Grant it all permission
Click sd card on top right corner
Click on backup to SD card
Uncheck all option on selection screen
Click on app>check Samsung notes and press done.
Once backup is done, all s notes will be saved on phone in SD card.
To restore. Install smart switch for mobile >tap SD card > here previous backup will appear under restore option, click that and all s notes will be restored.
Smart switch will then organize data in background and notify once everything completed.

Is it possible to backup my S10e home screen apps layoutcto Google?

1. I'm wondering if it's possible to backup my entire home screen apps layout as well as all the apps that I have on my phone including the current settings in use to Google cloud. Is this possible? If yes, how?
2. If Google isn't a possibility, could I back everything up to Samsung Cloud?
3. If I then buy another phone such as the S21, where would I restore my data from? Google or Samsung?? Would I be given options to restore from both??
