Hi. Hope some Sony Xperia guru can help me with this.
I recently went on vacation and left my Xperia XA F3111 at home. Some a***hole had access to it for over 2 weeks and installed some malware on it. When I found out I factory reset the phone, but I really want to restore the stock ROM too in case he has flashed the phone with a malware-infested ROM which will survive a reset.
My problem is, the phone settings say "Bootloader unlock allowed = No". The guide here on XDA Developers say that this setting means he could not root the phone. My first question is, would this setting have also prevented him from installing a custom ROM?
If that would not have stopped him, are there any step-by-step instructions as to how I can reinstall a clean stock Sony ROM with that bootloader config setting in place?

Hi, factory reset of the phone was the best choice. You don't need to worry about the integrity of the system as long as your bootloader stay locked so you don't need to flash it again.
For the malwares it's probably coming from crappy apps, for sample: https://www.google.com/amp/s/bgr.com/2018/11/25/google-play-store-apps-removed-malware-found/amp/

I mean, does that config setting mean that nobody can ever unlock the bootloader and change the ROM?

Yes exactly, almost nobody can corrupt the system (for now). If one day you see a TA dumper for locked bootloader on Nougat or a root exploit it will mean that your phone can be corrupted.

well my friend sry but you can't restore this code
most of devices like samsung,motorola etc they have.... lets say a key for the bootloader(is the door) and this key if you root your device
breaks and the half key stays inside the door hole to reminds you that the key is broken(the devicesis root/unlockbootloader).
so if you root any motorola device the code state goes
automatically 2 and stays like this,you can flash again the stock rom and relock the bootloader sure
but the code stays 2 for ever.

I'm not exactly sure what you are saying, but I think the jist of it is how do you relock the bootloader... the answer is you cannot, once it is unlocked it will always report as unlocked, even if you reflash stock and find a way to relock the device.
When you unlocked your device, it was plainly stated in the disclosure on the website that once the bootloader is unlocked, it is irreversible.

YEAAA we say the same think,but i use an othey way to say it.
i say in the end you can relock the bootloader (more or less) when i say this i mean that you put some partitions back in boot loader
so when you flash the stock rom you can take any ota update,but the main bootloader is unlock always.
i know that form my old moto g2gen, moto x2013!!!

You could relock the bootloader on older Motos, but not anymore... Actually, it can be relocked but it will never report as locked or relocked, it will always be reported as unlocked. I don't how to be more plain in describing this.
And yes, you can take an OTA when unlocked, as long as you have a stock ROM and recovery and your bootloader is the correct version for your ROM. If your bootload and ROM are out of sync (ie. you have a Marshmallow bootloader and a Lollipop ROM), if your bootloader and ROM are out of sync, you could potentially get into a hard bricked situation.

Once I sent my hard bricked phone to Motorola. I had unlocked the bootloader and done the stupid mistake of sideloading an older version and upgrading to a newer, but still older version. When it came back, it said it was Status Code 0.
Wonder how they did it.

They flash the eMMC chip (internal storage chip) directly... If you could get the right image you could possibly do it yourself with a few hundred to thousand dollar investment in a proper JTAG flashing unit.
Key would be getting the right Image, this would be far more than just a normal stock fastboot image, and is probably generated on the fly per device due to differences in serial number, IMEI, etc. These types of images don't get leaked out.

ok so what if you have never root unlocked, did nothing but use as intended to be.. never trying to do anything to it. wtf would i have a code 2 status then? care to sum that up for me.. cause 100% my situation.

You unlocked the bootloader... It doesn't matter if you actually changed anything else or not. Once it's been done, this status code can never go back to 0. If the status code is 2 and you didn't unlock the bootloader, then someone else did.

No I didn't.. I don't even know how to.. I just found out about recovery mode.. Wait wait before i say that.. How do you unlock boot loader? Turning developer mode on? Going to recovery menu? I've never hard reset it.. Just soft or doing new device. You said it could work fine for a while then shirt out? Like guy I bought from did and then I bought used for couple years and then went tits up?

You unlock the bootloader with a series of steps that includes submitting a code to Motorola and getting an unlock code back... Performing it forces a factory reset as well. It's not something you can do by accident.
The issue with Status Code 2 was that an official update could have detected that and refused to update properly or done something worse... That never happened.
If everything is working fine, the status being 2 isn't important, it just means the previous owners had unlocked the bootloader and likely rooted or otherwise modified the phone.

I bought a Z5 C6603 in a commercial store, I mean it doesn’t come from any cellular provider company. The first thing I thought when I get it was about rooting it and I did, and I did install TWRP too, but before doing these two things I unlocked the boot loader, in fact as I know if this device comes with the option of bootloader unlock: no, that means the rooting and custom recovery are not possible.
If that is true something happened because when I checked up the service menu after rooting and twrp this option tells me the bootloader unlocking is not allowed. My memory is failing because a have been working in several cell phones despite the fact I’m not an expert. I think in the process I install a kernel or a rom wich made the modification, could It be possible that this kernel change the value?

That is odd indeed. But since you've already unlocked your BL, what does it matter anyways what your phone tells you?
Locked Bootloader, Config Says "No" Can't Unlock, But Have Root... Am I stuck?

Well, I had to pull out my previous phone, my Tmo D6616 Xperia Z3. I replaced it when the battery was all bloated and could explode, etc. I replaced it with an LG G5. And, I have the horrible GPS issue with my G5 that just doesn't work well at all. This bugs me. I travel with my family enough that I use it and has caused some wrong turns, etc. I want to replace it, but don't see any good deals in my situation since I have no number to port-in or a new person to bring on the plan.
So, here I am checking on what I can do with my Z3. I've replaced the battery, got a new case, and also replaced the screen protector... just like a brand new phone, except the ROM is really outdated. It is currently on the latest OTA from Sony, Android 5.0. I did check to see if there is a more recent stock ROM and there isn't.
I want to install a new ROM, in which I should be able to backup the TA partition since I am rooted.
When I do the *#*#.... code, then check to see if the bootloader can be unlocked, it says no. Because of that, am I out of luck?
Am I able to use root to unlock the bootloader and install another ROM?

If it says "no" to unlock the bootloader, then you can not unlock the bootloader.
You can, however, use root and recovery.
Check out https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general/guide-rootrecovery-how-to-root-install-t3017056. Just stick it to xperia Roms. Search the forum, I think Marshmallow is the latest.
As far as I know, other Roms than Xperia are not recommended for a locked bootloader. But there are other, xperia roms, for a locked bootloader Z3.

I was able to get recovery installed, thanks for that. I am not so sure about the MM rom, however. I haven't seen one for the D6616. That would at least make it a little better to work with.
Hello everyone so despite trying in the past and the app saying unable to root. I decided to check my Z5 E6653 this morning and to my surprise i got the message that my device can be rooted. Has anyone got this on Nougat 7.1.1 ? Did it work in the end or not? Im sceptical and not sure if i should give it a try. My device is stock with an unlockable bootloader that is still locked currently.

Even if you get temporary root with some exploit, as soon as you modify the system partition Or boot partition, your device will bootloop forever because the bootloader knows that the system has been tampered.
The only possible thing would be crack the bootloader, which is (almost) impossible.
Simply backup your TA partition with Iovyroot,then unlock the bootloader and install the proper kernel that emulates TA drm protection and lets you root the Rom.
If needed you can restore TA partition and send phone to repair service like it was never unlocked.

I have checked the service menu that bootloader is unlockable, does that mean I can unlock bootloader and flash twrp recovery then Magisk? But it seems there are no I4332 twrp recovery in their official website...
Does that mean there is no way to root this phone?

If the bootloader is unlocked and if you can find a copy of your stock firmware to extract a copy of your boot.img, you can use Magisk on PC to patch the boot.img then flash the boot.img to root the device then install the Magisk Manager app on your device.

@Droidriven not to be butting in (your like the sensei of helper-outers) "bootloader is unlockable". which can probably be done from sony website. also i dont know about the L3 l4332 but with my new xperia z3 you need to backup the DRM keys (in the TA folder if i'm not mistaken) before unlocking the bootloader or will lose for ever. they affect camera pic. quality and a few other things.

I didn't look for links or guides, I just narrowed their direction for what to look for. None of the one clicks they tried so far has worked and there is no TWRP for their device, that leaves one option, Magisk patched boot.img, provided that their bootloader is unlocked. I left it to them to establish whether the bootloader is locked/unlockable and where to go from their. I guess I could have said "if your bootloader is unlocked or can be unlocked", but I would have dealt with that if they came back saying it was locked. Then I may have pointed them to an unlock method.
