No updates? - Mate 8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, about a year ago i tested some custom rom's, but i had some problem with them so i came back to Stock ROM, stock bootloader, locked the bootloader. Im using it from then, and it runs fine, im happy with it. But my problem is that my security updates are from: 1st September 2017, my EMUI is: 5.0.1 and Android 7.0 - NXT-L29C432B582. HiSuite tells me that my system is up-to-date same as i click to check for updates in phone settings. Is that normal, or i am not getting the updates for some reason? If so how can i restore them?

Will I get 7.0 update on my Honor 8 via OTA?

Hi, I recently downgraded from Android 7.0 to 6.0 on my Honor 8 device using firmware package as I faced severe battery drain issues with 7.0 (I tried the rollback package but it didn't work for me). I'm wondering if I'll get the future updates to 7.0 via OTA or should I download manually and install?

If I was you I would make sure that you are registered via your honor ID &, Hicare and wait see if you get the ota. I can't think of any reason why you won't get it.
I have only updated via official OTA's and I have had no issues with battery life.
My phone is very stable and the battery lasts all day what ever I'm doing no problem.
It would be interesting to see how many of the folks that are having issues have rooted Thier phone's or used the FF etc.
When you do get the update install the update then factory reset them give your phone a week to settle and learn your usage habits

Help with putting stock ROM back on Verizon S6 (SM-G920v)

I had my phone rooted up until last year and an issue with the battery happened and I had no choice but to send it in for a battery replacement. When I got the phone back it had the latest OS at that time installed and was of course no longer rooted. So now I had no way to go back to root and had to live with that but since then my phone would never update on it's own to the latest Baseband version: G920VVRS4CQA3
and Build number: MMB29K.G920VVRS4CQA3
The OTA update was disabled when I rooted it and so now I can't OTA update it.
What is the best way to just flat wipe the phone so that it loads the OS and can then do OTA updates or will I need to find a current original stock rom to download (I've had no luck, so many links are crap).
Can anyone help please?
If I understand correctly, I need to dl the latest version and security patch and use odin to install. Will that completely wipe my phone so the crippled OTA update will work?

NOKIA 6 (TA-1000) September update

Hi guys,
I am new here, recently i got to know that TA-1000 is a Chinese only version and was supposed to be in China only, but somehow i got it and wasn't able to update. It was stuck on April 1st, and now it is on September 1st.
I followed a procedure by a Russian guy on this forum. I must say this site is amazing. So i made a video out of it.
Well i am not sure if i can post the video tutorial link here in the forum. Let me know if i can and i'll send you the link to do it very easily.
Looking forward.
Thanks

After the Hard Reset (which will delete pre-installed unnecessary apps), will I get the previous UI (swipe up to get to Main Menu)?
I can confirm that it works on Nokia 6 TA-1000. In my case I had the phone connected to the PC already when I had the flash tool open. And when I turned it off to prepare for flashing the firmware it automatically switched to Download Mode. But the GUI is changed after that. No more swipe up menu and the items in the pull down menu are way too big now.
You can install Pixel Launcher that have swipe up function.
I followed this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6/development/nokia-6-official-firmware-mena-region-t3664441 and flashed the nokia 6 ROM linked there.
Result:
1. My phone is no longer identified as TA-1000, but as TA-1025 instead.
2. It updated itself (OTA) all the way from 7.1.1 June 2017 (through July, August, September, October, November patches) and ended as 7.1.2 November 2017 patch.
Warning:
Your mileage may vary. My phone went through few ROM flashes described below and the end result can not be guarantied.
My phone is dual SIM, 4GB RAM, 32GB storage without NFC - definitely Chinese version.
History:
I purchased the Chinese (mainland) Nokia 6 in May.
The phone came with some weird (custom) ROM without update function but with Google apps. The ROM was so messed that location services didn't work properly so applications like G maps, gett and even tinder were not able to detect device location.
I followed this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6/development/problem-firmware-nokia-6-ta-1000-t3640667 to flash slightly modified global ROM with stock Android 7.1.1. It still missed the update and some minor issues like DOLBY not working.
Then I followed this thread to flash the original TA-1000 ROM https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6/how-to/nokia-6-ta-1000-september-update-t3679882 and it went to stock locked Chinese ROM that updated (OTA) to December 2017 security patch.
It was still awful experience with custom locked apps without option to replace some of them.
So I just followed that thread, and flashed the ROM for nokia 6. I Ignored the warning about different phone model and continued.
Everything seems to be working just fine (none of the issues I encountered with other ROMs).

I really like what you have done. I also have a TA-1000 with the December patch but in 7.1.1. I had thought of flashing another rom many times, but they say that in that case it is no longer updated by OTA. If you say that OTA really works, I'm going to decide to flash it.
I also would like to know if location services are working ? With Google play update (I'm in France) I have region issue I think. When I bought it in July I had Google location history working. After some time and a Google play services update it stop working by disabling it. And share location is not showed anymore in location settings. And location history is greyed and locked. Everything is on in Google settings, I tried another account flash the phone with original firmware and as soon as I install Google play it updates it self and lock location history. It works on a ta-1033 but in France ta-1000 won't work.
I tried to cheat on GPS settings, not using my French SIM card and on. But still it disable itself.
So does flashing ta-1025 solves this issue ? ta-1025 is the Indian version ?

Share your results. OTA worked just fine. The phone updated itself (OTA) all the way from July to November patches.

TA-1025 is MENA (Middle East / North Africa) version. AFAIK, the difference between versions is in the radio bands.
My location history works perfectly fine as well as every other application using location services.

In this case, I need a European ROM for flashing. Radio band is not the same that MENA version.

The ROM has nothing to do with radio bands. It's the HW difference.
For example TA-1000 does not have NFC and no ROM will fix it.
The ROM that linked in my post is for TA-102x and TA-103x.
There will be no difference in functionality between international ROMs. Only Chinese is different.
Well, I shall try then to install the ROM . As I have the Chinese version I guess it will disable NFC, and may be led support ? I will post the result next week here ASAP.
Then I will install the rom ta-102x in my ta-1000. Cross our fingers
It has worked!!! Thank you very much!!! Now I have a fully operational TA-1025, which has all the updates down to 7.1.2 by OTA. I had been thinking about flashing another ROM for a long time, but I did not dare if OTA updates failed.
I only find a defect. the apps of the Chinese version have disappeared. There is no backup app, gallery, or music. They have been replaced by google. Is it possible to get the apps from the Chinese version?

It's not a defect, it's a blessing
The launcher is still some semi custom version.
If you are interested in Chinese apps, you should probably flash the TA-1000 ROM from this thread - it has all the custom apps including contacts, phone, calendar, music etc.
A small update: today I've got the December 2017 security patch was really hopping to see Oreo update which was promised to land this year.

Hello sir, I found ur post is interesting, I would like ask some questions if I may:
1. Which ROM I need to download, the one in the first page of this thread (https://forum.xda-developers.com/nokia-6/development/nokia-6-official-firmware-mena-region-t3664441) or other pages? Since currently that thread have 49 pages so I confused which one I should download.
2. After download the ROM and flash it with OST Tool, the apps and data will be wiped out? Is it required to do a hard reset? Currently I have TA-1000 which at December Updates and since I flashed to the original chinese stock ROM I never do hard reset and working with my old data and apps just fine until.
3. Have you try the beta labs to try the Oreo update? Since right now TA-1000 model is unable to register. If like u said that the ROM could change the registered variant (from TA-1000 to TA-10xx) then probably it could pass the beta labs verification.
Looking forward for ur respose, if anyone would also like to help pls reply this message. Thank you.

Downgrading from latest firmware (ASJA)

.I just want to share my experience with the firmwares (G970F).
First im not against with any updates for the phone but I accidentally press the update for the latest which is the ASJA (Philippines Carrier) and i realize it comes with a new bootloader which is S3 and the stock is U1.
Is there anything I can downgrade the bootloader so I can downgrade the complete firmware also? I want the stock firmware the first one (March 2019) because of my own preferences and I just want to stay with it. Any ways to solve this even on the near future? Glad to hear some ideas. Thanks
I have a similar question. After the recent Feb 2020 security patch update, the bootloader has been changed from 3 to 4. I so wish i had not updated. Is there anyway to go back to Android 9 which has BL 3 via Odin? Help would be appreciated, thanks.
im not sure its possible, moving from u4 to u3. the only possible solution o go back to android 9, is to find android 9 firmware with u4 security bit

Update... Android 12 can be rooted using Magisk Canary
I was able to take an OTA update to Android 12 on my BL unlocked, rooted, custom kerneled Pixel 3! I started the update accidentally by hitting that pop up reminder and after a minute of thinking what to do (i did not want to lose my data!!!), I held down the power button to force it to reboot during the update. I have had this work to stop an OTA update and restore it perfectly to previous state. Anyway, it did NOT work this time, and it updated to A12 perfectly! No loss of data, no loss of custom kernel, but i did of course lose root. Also.... when i checked the update version in settings, it wanted to update AGAIN, from Oct 21 to Feb 22 (which is just an Emergency Dialer patch). My phone still shows Oct 21 security patch in settings, but shows the Feb 22 firmware (...016.C1), which suggests the patch was only a tiny fix to the 911 Dialer and did not affect anything else. So this time i let it update, which i started to think was stuck or looping after waiting about an hour, but finally i checked the progress and it was done, requesting a reboot! So i rebooted it and behold, its now running final security update to the Pixel 3, and all i need to do now is root with Magisk and install SafetyNet Fix. Which is the ONLY thing i can think of as to how it was able to do a factory OTA update while rooted and BL unlocked! The SafetyNet Fix patch may be so good that it bypasses the Google security measure that refuses to allow OTA updates on rooted, unlocked Pixel 3s. Yup, on a GOOGLE PIXEL! I used to have to unroot and install the factory kernel to do an OTA sideload on my old Essential in order to update and not lose data, but i was told that you could not update to new Android versions without losing your data on the P3, so Ii just figured my Sept 21 A11 firmware was the final update until a phone upgrade. Anyway, just wanted to pass on the good news that you CAN perform a factory OTA update from A11 to A12 on the Pixel 3 WHILE rooted and unlocked and with a custom kernel, but I of course have to recommend you do so on your own, and if anyone has an unused or non-daily driver P3 that want to confirm this good news, please do so and help convince the disbelievers ! The ONLY thing i would recommend is that you have the latest "Android 12" version of SafetyNet Fix installed with the switches on in Magisk, which is what i had. Its the only thing i can think of that would allow Google's Safety Net to bypass the security restrictions. OK then, hope a few of you give it a try to show im not a nutcase, lol.
Question kind of related to this... Was the P3 kernel updated in Android 12 to fix that race condition that causes freezes if using systemless hosts? With A11 I always had to make sure I installed a custom kernel before Magisk and enabling systemless hosts to keep my P3 from freezing.
