It's what I love about redmi note 4 (mido) to enable Camera Api2. you can edit build.prof and add (persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1)
In the custom rom based Lineage Or AOSP already cameraapi2 you try to check if you are in the rom

Wait really? I'm on unrooted stock rom but I can edit build.prop by adb. So all I do is add that line anywhere?

You need root for this. Go to /system/etc and open build.prop file. Add persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1 on a new line in the file and save then reboot.
Download Open Camera from Play Store, go into its settings and you'll see 'use camera2 api' at the bottom.

Not rooted miui rom camera only get black screen after accept permissions. Any help? Or rot needed?

Didn't worked for me. Camera didn't crashed but it blacked out all black only i can see capture button.

try urikill or another gcam they will work on pie and if not try to flash RN5 camera patch module

I have working RN 5 camera module i want the gcam to work. But arnova, BSG and urikill didn't work.

Yet you make another two threads for same topic.
Arnova 8.3 with patch working on PIE. Just go to the thread, and read the discussion and find the patch there.

But you need Root to turn on HAL3 support in build.prop.

You need root access to edit that, or flash a zip using custom recovery. Both requires an unlocked bootloader. After unlocking just google enable camera2api.

I don't think there is any other way unless the beta ROM has it enabled and we can use it with locked bootloader.

I've found on youtube a new way to install google camera on Xiaomi redmi note 6 pro only with unlocked bootloader (without twrp and rooting).
After searching on this forum as well as on Google I've not found anyone else talking about this method so I'm wondering if it's working or not.

Gcam has support for 4k 30 fps and 1080p 60fps, no need to install other stuff
