You need root access to edit that, or flash a zip using custom recovery. Both requires an unlocked bootloader. After unlocking just google enable camera2api.

I don't think there is any other way unless the beta ROM has it enabled and we can use it with locked bootloader.

I've found on youtube a new way to install google camera on Xiaomi redmi note 6 pro only with unlocked bootloader (without twrp and rooting).
After searching on this forum as well as on Google I've not found anyone else talking about this method so I'm wondering if it's working or not.

It's what I love about redmi note 4 (mido) to enable Camera Api2. you can edit build.prof and add (persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1)
In the custom rom based Lineage Or AOSP already cameraapi2 you try to check if you are in the rom

You need root for this. Go to /system/etc and open build.prop file. Add persist.camera.HAL3.enabled=1 on a new line in the file and save then reboot.
Download Open Camera from Play Store, go into its settings and you'll see 'use camera2 api' at the bottom.

Just put the scanner app packagename on hal1 packagelist in build prop, it will be functional again. Be advised, hal1 packagelist has string size limit.

In latest LOS from Razziell it works great. Though, updates are availables on other forums. Check the thread, anyway. There are some links to the active page where developer still updates its rom.

I have tried Raziel's LOS on last build. Amazing, activated camera2api without break scanner. I wish it could be implemented on other custom rom.

I recently using AOKP from lsdty on last build 20171216. Hal3 active, but trouble when using scanner. So I disable manually from build.prop. I think AOKP 20171207 is more better. On the last build, I found fingerprint not work, crash when setup. Sadly...

I have tested on RR Qwerty Tom 20171224. It works perfectly, both camera and videocam. Also scanner work fine.

RR~1224 build has hal3 fixed. So, no camera conflict with hal1 and hal3.

A1 camera port never cause deep sleep prevention problem for me. I've not tried this camera app, but shouldn't interfere deep sleep.
I saw that i can open gcam port pixel 3 although i didn't turn on camera 2api on bluid.prop. so mia2 lite support that on android pie.

its not possible without enabling the Camera2Api , you have to enable it . At least temporary root ur device to enable it .

You'll need a patched_boot.img for your rom version (in my case with 10.4) There's another thread with all the patched boot.imgs.

You can try installing the Mi A2 camera which is a better camera than the note 6 pro.

You can check theads for root e install gcam, i think you should unlock bootloader before root but i dont know, for the moment my redmi note 6 pro is original, not mod for now.

Can you check if stock camera hdr mode works? Front cam is not working like in Oreo. It may need a fix to work correctly.

Fully working ALL cameras (gcam, stock, selfie) in all modes etc. My rom is dev miui 10.5 9.6.13 xtrv greek version (but it's the same with eu). app is Arnova Gcam_6.1.021_Advanced_V1.6.190614.0200.
