Mi Mix 2s or Xiaomi Mi8? - Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S Questions & Answers

Hello all, I have the Mi Mix 2s, my friend is willing to sell me his Xiaomi Mi8 for $300 which is super cheap. I'm going to buy it and give one to my son.
I love my Mix 2s, however, I am willing to switch to the Xiaomi Mi8 if the battery life is better. If I am concerned about battery life, which one is better? I will give the worse one to my son.

Same battery size, but the Mi8 has a slightly larger screen. I would assume the batterylife of the 2S would be marginally better. Everything else is more or less the same (Mi8 has a few more sensors that might eat a tiny tiny amount of battery as well?)

Mi8 has ARB, Mix2s does not.

What about the AMOLED display on the Mi8? Would that make battery life better?

Coming from LG G6

Hey
I'm currently a lg G6 user and I'm thinking about buying the mi mix 2s !
I live in Paris so had the chance to test it live in their store and found it beautiful, the screen was very good and the camera too, but I also tried the Xiaomi S2 in hand and felt good too.
I know the price would be a factor, but it's not the case for me and Idk what to buy, the S2 or the mi mix 2s.
I mostly use my phone for youtube, chatting sms calls... no games and I take many pictures, so the camera and battery are important to me (I also like to use custom roms ...)
I ask you if you could please give me your opinion and help me choose
Many thanks !
The Mi Mix 2S has the better camera and internal specs, also the build materials are better. But that's because they are different phones, aimed at different targets: The Mi Mix 2S being a flagship, whereas the S2 is a mid tier phone.
I totally agree with Kristof_clg, however keep in mind that the 2s is very heavy. Feels very strange if you are not used to it
I also came from a G6. Don't get the 2S. Hell, don't get any Xiaomi device.
Too many broken/missing features.
Just get another LG or something like that.
I was on LG G5, next ZUK Z2 Pro, next OnePlus 3 and now on Mix 2S and it's A LOT better than all previous ones, smoothness, camera, quality build, the screen, it's very very impressive, I know the G6 and you should leave LG for Xiaomi.
I moved from LG6 to MIX 2S and don't regret it. all specs are obviously better, including battery life. took me a while to get used to weight, MIX 2s is a very, very heavy device. there were few problems with original software, but latest update fixed it. Camera is much better. design was the reason i bought MIX, but if i should do it again, i will not buy Xiaomi device again.

Could you please explain the reasons why? Since I already had a redmi note 4 it was great overall besides the camera.
Thanks !
"Very, very heavy" ?! Seriously ? I don't feel it heavy at all ?

Depends on what phone you had before. I bought the 2s after I used the oneplus one for a long time... The 1+1 is wonderful lightweight and the 2s feels like I can murder someone with it

It simply doesn't make a big deal to me.
I owned 11 smartphones and it truly doesn't bother me. In fact I'm okay with it.
Just my personal preference.
I came from an HTC 10 and a Nexus 6 before that. Neither of those phones was built to be a lightweight, and even I noticed how heavy the 2S is. That said, it doesn't bother me a bit. To me if feels sturdy and I would much rather that than it feeling cheap and like it couldn't take a drop (my first couple of Samsung phones come to mind). Plus as stated earlier, you could use it as an effective weapon if needed
LG have had quality build issues. G4 bootloop due to bad memory, G5 gps Very weak, to not working at all. I have a g5 currently and have a mix 2s on its way to me. I dont know what missing features apart from headphone jack and no microsd slot there are. Mix 2s has an ir blaster like g5 has which you wont find on any other current flagship main stream device now and 8gb ram 256gb rom is more than what samsung or lg give you, 4gb of ram on s9 is terrible for a premium device. Micro sd cards are reletively slow anyway, getting 256gb mix 2s negates the need for microsd.

The Mix 2S has an IR blaster? I tried the Mi Remote app and it told me the phone wasn't compatible.

Sorry it doesn't. Some sites that list specs incorrectly say it has. Obviously googling for "mix2s ir blaster" takes you to those sites, my mistake. I have my mix 2s now, I didn't when I posted that.

MI MIX 2s (450€) vs MI MIX 2 (320€)

Hello,
with the following price which product you will suggest ? all from OFFICIAL mi store philippines , current exchange rate, both 64GB ROM 6GB Ram
MI MIX 2s (450€)
pro: snap 845 , wireless charging , better solid camera
cons: quite horrible back design (my opinion), front camera still low/normal quality, still horrible audio in video.
MI MIX 2 (320€)
pro: perfect design front and back , lower price, better screen than mi mix 2s (?)
cons: no wireless charging, not really good camera , older 835
Notes :
- For "notebookcheck" the screen of mi mix 2 has a lot better contrast , so should be better , it's true ?
- Also i saw that people complaining that gorilla glass 4 scratch super easily , it's true ? i have nubia 2 years old gorilla glass 3 , using without any tempered glass , is totally like new the screen.
thanks
Same panel in the screen afaik so shouldn't be any different there. Gg4 is better than gg3 but all glass can still scratch .

The MI Mix 2 and MI Mix 2S use the same display but the 2S has a more powerful GPU which probably accounts for the fact that the display is slightly brighter and more vibrant on the 2S. I own both phones and was surprised the displays didn't look exactly the same.
If someone was choosing between the two phones I would say buy the 2S if you can afford the higher price. Otherwise the Mix 2 is still a very good phone. However, if having a cutting edge display is a high priority the IPS LCD technology found on the Mix 2/2S definitely doesn't qualify.

Thanks, so you confirm its even better for your eyes the mi mix 2s panel? I was quite worried from notebookcheck review that was worst than the mi mix 2
Also can i ask you if sizes and and ergonomic is clearly noticeable on mi mix 2s? (In good way cause it's smaller)

Pathetic battery

Only 3200mah? Wtf were they thinking? This is a bad case of form over function. My Mix2 battery life is "just" acceptable and instead of improving it they make it smaller. I'm definitely ordering the NexS. I may resume my Xiaomi love affair with the Mix4 if they come to their senses.
Yeah, agree 100 %, but the problem with the Vivo NEX S is that you have no root and no bootloader unlock.
Also, no Wireless Charging.

I don't root or tinker so it doesn't matter. I don't even care about wireless charging especially with a phone like the Nex which is easily a two day phone.

Calm down man, what did you expect with all those moving parts? BTW, did Xiaomi promise you anything before they announced the phone that you are so pissed now?
Calm down.
While the battery might be smaller than the Mi Mix 2's, the screen now is Oled instead of LCD. This should mean that you'll get more SOT than you currently do with the 2. The battery on the Mi Mix 2 is fine for regular usage (with my Mi Mix 2 reaching about 1,5 days of SOT, needing to be charged every 2-3 days), and I'm sure the battery for the 3 will be better than your current device.

Calm down? I'm not pissed, I'm disappointed. It's gone from 4400mah to 3400 to 3200. The NexS has similar specs and a 4,000mah battery. Huawei's Mate line is almost always 4,000mah. Compromising on battery life is a deal breaker for me.

The NexS has the same oled and 4,000mah.
Btw I think you mean 1.5 days overall. No phone achieves 1.5 days (36 hrs) of sot.
Mix 1 4400 mAh 6.4 inch
Mix 2 3400 mAh 6 inch
Mix 3 3200 mAh 6.4 inch
So, we get 218g device with 8.3mm and only 3200 mAh. Amoled or not, this is trash.

Exactly
Not going to leave my note 9 4000 battery
For this trash 3200 battary
Galaxy with 4000 mAh = Xiaomi 3000 mAh
My Mi Mix 2s with 3400 mAh destroy the Mate 10 Pro with 4000 mAh, even without Amoled.
I totally agree with Twotems.

I briefly had the NexS,I think you'll like it,but,if you haven't already,I'd take a look around the NEX forum here @ XDA before taking the plunge, especially if this is gonna be a long-term daily driver.
The software is definitely iOS inspired, but, manageable,a bit of tweaking is in order, especially if you want to use a 3rd party launcher.
Ditto for the Oppo Find X,I had that one for an even briefer amount of time before selling it (5 days),worst mfg UI experience EVER by a country mile.
The hardware on both are awesome, the Nex,while not a flashy, would be the one of the two I'd recommend.

Thanks for the advice. I've been on the Nex forums for a while and bought based on the comments there. The FindX slide to unlock made it a no no from the beginning.
Sounds like you had the Chinese version which is a nightmare outside China. I ordered the global version (I hope!) and it's fine they say. I always change my launcher to FastKey or ZenUi especially on my Xiaomi's so the ios look won't be overwhelming. It's arriving next week so I'll know everything for sure then.

Yep, had the original (Chinese) versions of both.
I went in to the experience fully aware that things were different from the way most of us use our phones outside of China & baked-in Google services.
Still came out of it very surprised at how restrictive the user experience was.
I've heard the global ROMs offer a better experience.
Would be nice to have OnePlus' OOS on either, the best of both worlds.....

Hi, where I live mi mix 3 ,5g version isn't available.
It worth the price. I think 4g is enough, 5g has no development and no coverage
I often change my phone, but I love so much esthaetics of my Mi Mix 3 (4G). I recommend it as a technologically balanced phone with few "it could be better" for the 4G model (as battery and no gorilla glass) but no big flaw.
I believe 5G is more of a marketing for years to come and newer CPU is not that much needed... but 5G model is to be preferred because of Gorilla Glass treatment and battery.

Yes, this is it. I checked few months ago on Gorilla Glass official site. No sign of Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 4G, and few bad feebacks about small scratches easily appearing on it. I put a tempered glass on mine.

Is the Galaxy S10e Exynos version battery THAT bad?

I'm between buying the Samsung Galaxy S10e and Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro. Their prices in my country are 400€/330€ respectively.
The things I mostly care about in order: Display/Battery/Camera.
I don't care about games much, I use the phone for media consumption/creation and for professional use (web dev).
The reason I haven't already pulled the trigger is because I don't like the 9T's size. It's too big for my liking and the S10e is just a tad bigger than my previous phone.
However, I've read some really bad stuff about the Exynos variant battery. Plus the camera differences are noticeable.
The extras like camera OIS, expandable storage, IP certifications are all nice but if the battery sucks then it's not worth it, especially at a higher price.
Can I expect at least 6,5hours SoT with medium use?
I think 5 to 5.5 hours is more realistic. You can squeeze out a bit more in power saving mode, but performance will be less. Small phones also have small batteries...

I've read that the snapdragon version lasts for about 45 minutes longer than the exynos version which is my main concern. Would you recommend the 9T Pro in that case? As far as I can tell it has just as good cameras (as the exynos version at least), a much better battery life, a great display.. and it's cheaper. Having a bigger phone vs a mediocre battery life.
I guess you would have to be able to accept the Xiaomi software.
I avoid them because of that.
The S10e has a lot of good business grade stuff but a bigger battery would be nice. Mine was fine, had surprisingly good battery life even after updating into Android 10 but the latest security update seems to have damaged battery life, not sure why. I really hope they sort that out.....
So I can't advise you on your decision at this point, but the S10e is a nice phone with a lot of capability. Mine is a work phone.
I still enjoy my personal Axon 7 though, it's like a diamond in the rough. Hits the spot, although the OS is so much simpler.

Sold a 9T pro a couple of days ago... There some things that are very bad with that phone. The speaker is super bad quality. Very tinny compared to the s10 speakers. The screen is not on par. The build is OK. MIUI is not my kind of software, but there is Pixel experience... I think s10e is a better choice.

I really couldn't tell you. I just go by the ease of getting my day out of it and it used to do fine but just after the last update it nosedived and now I look at settings, uninstalls etc. Even went back to stock launcher in case that was the issue.
Next is backup, reset and set up again but really, I don't want to do that **** with a work phone.

I had both phones for a couple of days. Got the Mi 9T Pro to flash Pixel experience ROM and replace my S10e, but I couldn't do it. Xiaomi really cheaped out in some areas. The only thing better is the battery.
And I don't think the Exynos in S10 is bad. The single core performance is pretty good. The multi core is not bad. I personally am satisfied with the battery, for a compact phone.
I'm considering the Oneplus 7 pro. Just can't get past the huuuuge size.
With the latest update, my S10e with Exynos battery is pretty good. Only lost 2% overnight with Wifi on! OneUI 2.0 is one of the best Android Experience now, much better than buggy MIUI. Glad I switched from MI 9T.
