I am sorry but why would you need to do that on Phoenix ROM when the ROM itself includes Always on by default ?
Does it work on Nougat 7.1.1(Oxygen 4.7.6]also or not?
I’m really missing the much better quality and customizable AOD on Samsung device.
Current implementation with ambient display from OnePlus is totally crap.
No proximity sensor any more no interaction with notifications on screen.
Very very poor version from OnePlus.

Ok, as you mentioned "Tested on Phoenix Rom based on 8.1.0" it was kind of confusing.

I use Glance Plus wit the optional paid Always On feature. Works great. Only thing is it doesn't honor the Quiet times I set, used to work in 4.7.6, but does honor the Silent switch, but unless something triggers it to awake/sleep again, it won't go to sleep still automatically at night when I don't want it to work.
Also have tried Always On from the play store, it works good as well. Just not a fan of the sizing/font options on the free version, but it works well also.
Be nice if OnePlus can replicate the Samsung version...that thing is nice.

Unfortunately those app consume more battery than stock implementation from OEM.
I’ve tried in the recent past and battery drain was 3-4% per hour.
Considering that AOD at Samsung only loose 1% per hour that’s a significant increase in battery drain with third party app.

Good lord, instead of all the mumbo jumbo just install Omni ROM. Has AOD built-in and works perfectly. No muss no fuss

Samsung's version also does some hardware tricks like dropping the refresh rate and pixel clock and number of colors. The display hardware literally has a special mode to reduce power use that isn't supported by most hardware, or.if it is, it's not implemented by Android
Has anybody gotten this to work?

It wouldn't work for me at first, but I got it working now. All you need to do is make sure ambient display is already turned on before you build/enable the Substratum overlay. Then follow the instructions in the OP.

However it seems buggy and doesn't seem to work properly. At least on RR Oreo.

Hey guys !
I was wondering if there's been a project to port the "video as lock screen" functionality on the Samsung S9 to S8 ?
I know there's a work around for that such as the gif lock screen app but it's just that the lock screen interface from the app are just too ugly for me at least.
I'll prefer the stock lock screen UI better.
Or is there any way for us to create our own live wallpaper from a video ?
Thanks !
upgrade to oreo

I am not sure which version of the update you are on but I am on software version CRC5. If you are on that version, then you need open a video, then click the 3 dots on the top of the video player and select "Set as Wallpaper". I only had this option when I updated to the CRC5. The previous Oreo version did not include this.
I am on Sprint if that helps.

I was wondering about the same thing. I've just updated my S8 to the latest version since I've just realised that there's a newer version.
But still even after the update, chosing a video in the gallery app wouldnt show me the ''set as wallpaper'' option that would otherwise be there when u click on the 3 dots button on S9.
is it possible to port this to nougat ?
I missed this function (downgrade from Oreo to Nougat for way better GoogleCam and insane battery life) wonder if any1 in the same boat.

Thx

Yes. I use the following. Been using for a while now. Had it on my LG G3, Oneplus 3 and now Oneplus 6. Works perfectly.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cabooze.buzzoff2
There's a module on xposed that give you access to re-program the alert slider. But i've never try it yet. Maybe you can give it a try. Thx.
Hi Fellows
There is not native software by oneplus ???

Same here. Not a big deal for me. But maybe ask Oneplus directly to change it in their support forums?
I'am very disapointed, if the alert slider is broken, what is the other native solution ? nothing !! incredible oneplus choice !

If the alert slider is broken, you should be able to change the ring/vibrate/silent settings through the OS. It will not get stuck in one setting.
Through the OS ?
what is the access in this case ?
Sorry 6 years with samsung .... oneplus is new for me !
thank you

You are absolutely right. I am an idiot - I never imagined that Oneplus would disable the Android ability to control Ring/Vibrate/Silent modes through the volume slider. However, there must be a million apps in the Play Store that can change those settings in the OS. I don't think that the physical slider, being broken and stuck, will impede those apps. I, of course, could be mistaken.
Search for "Sound Mode Toggle Widget" in play store. It works perfectly

The same way you did on your Samsung, probably ! They didn't remove the shortcuts and quick settings !
Not sure about this though, I'm on Pixel Experience, and it allows to remap the slider as you want
@Totone56 Is this alert slider issue related to the OS? Or is it a hardware problem?
I use Sound Profiles:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=Orion.Soft
Let's you set up schedules for profiles, you can get widgets on the home screen etc. I haven't touched my OP6 alert slider since I got the phone. No, I lie. I came from HTC and saw the slider and operated it once to see what it does. After that I installed Sound Profiles on my OP6 and never touched it again.

A lot of OP 6T users have reported that the top alert slider position stopped working (some of them said it was after an Oxygen OS update). Mine does not work either, so I'm trying to fix it but I don't know if it is a SW or HW related thing.
[Update]: Turns out this is a new feature in MIUI 10 8.10.18 global beta.
To enable go to settings->notifications->show incoming notifications
Please ignore the below.
-------------------------------------------------------------
This is my first post, please don't mind any amateur mistakes.
I was going through the settings and found that turning off MIUI optimisation in developer settings will enable notification icons getting displayed in clock region.
I have tested this in MIUI 10 8.10.18 beta version. It'll be good if few people can test this in stable version and post the results.
Procedure
1) Enable developer options by clicking MIUI version 7 times.
2) go to Additional settings->Developer options.
3) Scroll to the end and disable MIUI optimisation.
Optional
1) Disable notify about high risk features. This will turn off annoying notifications stating to enable MIUI Optimisation.
2) Set the display size to small for better looks.
Below are the screenshots of the settings and the notification icons getting displayed.
Please feel free to comment your opinions.
Cons:
Need to provide app permissions again for few apps.
Some of the UI won't look good (limited to app info and settings app) trade-off
Reserved
Already did it , but still show clock instead of notifications icons?
and also unable to remove high risk feature notification.

It'll display when you unlock the phone for few seconds.
Did you enable developer options? Strange i was able to disable it.
Which version of MIUI are you at?

I have not done any modifications. Maybe something is wrong.
I'm on 8.10.18 and notifications are displayed normally inside clock region. I didn't fiddle around with any settings, just updated and set up my own region (Croatia), everything is working as it should finally.

Yep, that's now my top priority! I hopefully should have it done in a week or two, as I'm an inexperienced programmer.
hmm perhaps that was a bit of an ambitious timeframe, but it will hopefully be done before OnePlus releases the real AOD supposedly in August or September
