great, I'll update the compatibility! I'll look at the brightness reduction, at the moment I believe it uses the default autobrightness but I'll see what I can do.

Yep, that's now my top priority! I hopefully should have it done in a week or two, as I'm an inexperienced programmer.
hmm perhaps that was a bit of an ambitious timeframe, but it will hopefully be done before OnePlus releases the real AOD supposedly in August or September

Ok you can change the flash rate from 2-9seconds, no colour changes take place. As the Stock ROM Notification system does not issue any period/rate changes this should work without problems.

I installed the app, gave the SU permissions and played with rates and nothing changed in the way the trackball blinked.
Working fine here on CM-5.0.2. A reboot might help

I am sorry but why would you need to do that on Phoenix ROM when the ROM itself includes Always on by default ?
Does it work on Nougat 7.1.1(Oxygen 4.7.6]also or not?
I’m really missing the much better quality and customizable AOD on Samsung device.
Current implementation with ambient display from OnePlus is totally crap.
No proximity sensor any more no interaction with notifications on screen.
Very very poor version from OnePlus.

I use Glance Plus wit the optional paid Always On feature. Works great. Only thing is it doesn't honor the Quiet times I set, used to work in 4.7.6, but does honor the Silent switch, but unless something triggers it to awake/sleep again, it won't go to sleep still automatically at night when I don't want it to work.
Also have tried Always On from the play store, it works good as well. Just not a fan of the sizing/font options on the free version, but it works well also.
Be nice if OnePlus can replicate the Samsung version...that thing is nice.

Unfortunately those app consume more battery than stock implementation from OEM.
I’ve tried in the recent past and battery drain was 3-4% per hour.
Considering that AOD at Samsung only loose 1% per hour that’s a significant increase in battery drain with third party app.

Samsung's version also does some hardware tricks like dropping the refresh rate and pixel clock and number of colors. The display hardware literally has a special mode to reduce power use that isn't supported by most hardware, or.if it is, it's not implemented by Android

It wouldn't work for me at first, but I got it working now. All you need to do is make sure ambient display is already turned on before you build/enable the Substratum overlay. Then follow the instructions in the OP.

There won't be an OTA for this. It's a Developer Preview targeted at app creators that might want to adapt or test new features, and not intended for daily driver use. Critical features (like functioning as a phone) might be fundamentally broken or buggy, and by downloading it you're opting out of the normal customer service and warranty channels (instead of troubleshooting or device repair, you'll be directed to submit a beta feedback report), so they aren't going to make it easy for end-users to load it up.

Known Issues from Essential
Here's a current list of known issues for the Android P Developer Preview on Essential Phone:
• Dynamic calendar/clock is not behaving as designed
• Neko accessory version and serial number do not display in Android Settings
• Outgoing SMS over IP not working
• "System > Gestures > Swipe up on home button" does not work, can use "Home settings" to enable/disable
• W-Fi Hotspot does not stay on
• Cannot receive VT (Video Telephony) calls
• Volume drops during audio playback after tapping on launcher screen with dongle attached
• VoLTE not working
• Quick setting appears in pink with dark wallpaper

Hello everyone!
This is my first post on XDA
I found this on international variant of N7 Plus.
I'd like to share you a thing that I have found in settings menu. It's hidden and it's easy to dig it out :highfive:
Follow this steps:
1. Open settings app
2. Tap search
3. Type "navigation" or "fingerprint"
4. Tap Navigation Key of Fingerprint and Voila! Done!!
Let me know what you think. I found this thing randomly. Sorry if it is posted in wrong sub.

There is a throttling mod on the forum that worked wonders for me, but it's a magisk mod with a edit on a system file, so unless you could replace the system file, you would need root for this to work. I just thought I'd mention, since the difference is night and day, and that's one of the exact issues I was having without it.
