Discover feed (both in Google app and homescreen) stays empty (no content loads) - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

I am trying to figure out why the Discover feed is not loading any content whatsoever on my new Pixel 3. The feature is turned on (seemingly) from the Google App's settings, but all the toggles are greyed out in under the Discover section (Google App > More > Settings > Discover). Toggles move, but they remain greyed out here. When I'm in the Google app's first screen, I also have 'Customise' greyed out. The Discover tab within the Google App itself also doesn't work - nothing is being loaded content-wise.
Does anyone have any idea why this is so? I'm thinking there's some hidden setting that is disabling this, but can't figure it out.
Any help would be appreciated!!
Thanks!

Never mind - a factory reset did the job. It might have been an issue with the first setup, possibly restored some files from backup that messed up the Google App for me. Still baffled by this, but at least it's fixed.

Another thing that could be the cause - for whomever might stumble on this - the language. I think Discover feed doesn't work with English (UK), only with English (US).

App Manager in Google Play still useless, any idea?

I have searched this forum and the web, still surprised about the poor integration of multiple devices in Google Play.
Can anybody tell me if there is any easy and fast way to transfer most of your app's to a new device?
I am amazed the lack of usability in this matter? Why is there not a column based page with all your registered devises from left to right and all the app's downwards, then a box to "tick" on each device to install or delete multiple app's in one go??? How hard can it be???
I know you can use Titanium but you need to be rooted and still go by each app individual or take all in one go, this do not make any sense since a newer device might not need all the app's.
On Google Play I can see all my app's and then install them one by one with a confirmation box for every one? long and boring task.
A column based set-up where you choose which app's to be installed on what device you have registered seems like a "no-brainer" to me but I have not been able to find anything that resembles that??
Does it exist and am I a knob or is this a major oversight by Google???
All suggestions are welcome.
Robert
The key here is you need to tell Google to restore your phone once you install an OS. If you did this, the Play Store automatically downloads all your previously installed apps.
Also, in Titanium you have the checkboxes on the side as you're asking for, you just deselect the checkboxes besides the red apps pretty much...

Honor 8 - EMUI 4.1 - Chrome notifications

Hello,
Is anyone on Honor 8 / EMUI 4.1 able to get chrome notifications?
I've been checking Chrome settings and found nothing wrong, expect for the fact I don't seem to be able to add chrome to the list of apps that can ignore battery optimization, since it is not listed. I'm not sure if this is the reason though.
Please share your ideas / suggestions.
RM
It's because Chrome is a system app already so it is by default protected. Except it doesn't even work correctly probably because of their ram management, which kind of make this phone useless for receiving notification for me.
I tried adding Google Clock and S-Health to protected apps and also lock it in the "recent apps" menu, they still get forced close and the alarm didn't ring or it stopped counting steps.
I haven't used EMUI5 yet to know if it's fixed.
Hello!
Solution found! The hint (system app) of the previous post made me try this:
1-Uninstall Chrome (using TiBu - root needed)
2-Reinstall Chrome from Play Store
3-Configure settings to allow notifications from wanted pages
4-Add Chrome to the list of apps that can ignore battery optimizations
So far it is working as expected...
About the other notification issues I've faced before (Google Keep, WhatsApp,...) I've solved it after enabling "keep mobile data on when sleeping", besides adding the app to the ignore battery optimization list, of course.
RM
I have found that same exempt setting as well, unfortunately Chrome isn't in the list so I guess that's why you have to root to remove it first and readd it as third party app for it to show up.
To much effort to just get notification working, a basic feature of all phones and risk losing warranty and Android Pay access.
To make it clear for others:
1. add the app to the Protected apps list (settings - advanced settings - battery manager - protected apps).
2. go to settings - apps - advanced - exempt from battery optimization - select the drop down list and and select "all apps" - find your app and set it to allow.
Huawei programmers must have pride themselves in putting settings inside convoluted maze that's impossible to find.
You might also want to add Settings - Advanced Settings - Battery Manger - Upper right gear - keep mobile data on during sleep.
I second you about this kind of maze that we must run to just have notifications, but, on the other hand I'm kind of OK with it, as soon I can find a way to solve matter!

Duplicate apps with dual account symbol?!?

In Settings>Apps...I now have 2 Chromes, 2 Google Play Services, and 2 Settings apps. Each duplicate app has the Dual account symbol attached...which I thought only applied to messaging service apps that Samsung Galaxy S8+ allowed you to create a secondary account for. I'm quite certain this problem was caused by me installing Pixel Launcher...though not 100% certain. I have since uninstall that launcher and the apps remain. I have cleared the cache and data, force stopped and disabled the extra apps...but I can not uninstall. Chrome and google services still function as normal as far I can tell.
MY QUESTION IS: Has anyone else experienced this, and what can be done to rid my phone of these unnecessary extra/dual apps?!? Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
(I have attached a pic.)
Same here
Did you go to Settings > Advanced functions > Dual messenger and to disable it for every application ?
Unfortunately, I don't believe there is a way to turn it off once you have turned it on in the first place. What a load of **** trickery that Samsung has done with this one -_-

[FRP] Various Ways To Navigate FRP Bugs / Bypasses / Workarounds In Android OS
I am taking notes on the FRP bypasses I "freestyle" to find things out on my own.. potential new ways into areas of Android needed for successful FRP bypass and some just for fun. I encourage anyone who does this for whatever their reason to post to this thread if you want to share some of your methods. We all know hardware rules everything anymore but personally I have always had a nack at finding bugs / vulns / exploitable vulns since I was young. These are basically FRP workarounds if you want to call them that and are quite easy to come across. Below are some of the areas I have came across that ended up in taking me places that could be beneficial to completing a FRP Removal. These should be known to most everyone as they are basic areas of the Chrome browser. I just never thought about putting them to use in FRP situations until now. I have other workarounds and bugs I have found non Chrome related i will add later.
Below are just my notes crammed together. I will add to this much more when i've the time.
Android 7.0 - Tested on a Boost Stylo 3 Phone during manual FRP removal.
These are all through Chrome Browser. All should be pretty much known to most if you have dev'd / reverse any or just plain want to know wtf all goes down in Chrome.

*microphone*
then special access -> phone administrators -> enable/disable phone admins
then special access -> modify system settings -> turn off the ability for certain apps to read/write to the system (could this be another easier way instead of forcing stop / disabling apps ? These settings may not effect much...
then your all permissions -> location permissions -> location (turn on) then under location services google location history then top right view/manage -> now youre in maps.. hit back and youll be taken to maps (yes i know you can get to maps by clicking maps in google search.. just bringing up alternate ways of getting places that may help in the future in the event other methods are blocked..) out from here hit the top left start navigation and say ok google then w/e.. I can't reset the Sound Picker activity

Hello,
In an effort to get a BETTER Sound Picker option (where I can easily browse to a sound file and set it as a ringtone or notification tone), I installed an OLD app from the Play Store ("Sound Changer" by Sousoum Prod.) that seems to have screwed up the Sound Picker activity for the main phone "Sounds and Vibrations" menu. Now, whenever I try to choose a new Notification Sound or Ringtone from Settings, Sounds and Vibration, I no longer get a set of apps to choose from. It takes me to the built-in SecSoundPicker.
I have gone to Settings, Apps, Special Access and revoked all permissions for Media Storage, SecSoundPicker, Sound Picker and even others that sound like they might have something to do with the Sound Picker activity, but the behavior remains.
Of all those same apps (Media Storage, SecSoundPicker, Sound Picker) there isn't a normal "App page" where I can navigate to and clear any defaults associated with that app.
If I try to change the Notification Sound of a specific app, e.g. Samsung Email, I am presented with the "Complete action using" dialog that shows available apps (which is the desired behavior for all scenarios.)
Can anyone help me get this fixed?
(I am running Android 12/One UI 4)
Try modifying the settings in that app you installed. It's rare but it may have altered hidden user settings which in rare/worst cases may require a factory reset to undo.
If you can't modify the installed app to alter the changes, uninstall it.
Clear system cache.
If that doesn't get it start clearing data in the associated apps. I have no idea how deep that rabbit hole goes... probably good for learning some new curse words.
Play with it, that's probably the only way you'll work it out short of a factory reset, which I don't advise. You'll likely track it down eventually but it may take a bit.
Some of the file association settings aren't so accessible on Samsung's, rather annoying at times when a 3rd party app mucks them up.
Thanks for the suggestions!
I tried everything, but no luck. It stinks, but I can live with it since it's only one setting (System notification tone) that's badly affected by this, but there's already a workaround, even though it's definitely less than perfect (hint: using Zedge.)
I agree with you, it's definitely not worth a factory reset. I already tried resetting all app preferences, and I'm already regretting that.
In the process, I found an app developed for kit kat (and not updated since 2014) which actually is doing the job pretty well (for all other scenarios):
Rings Extended - Apps on Google Play
Replace ringtone selector to allow use of any installed audio file.
play.google.com
It even allows you to use the new Samsung sound picker, which is only implemented on system Ringtone selection, at the moment.

Yeah I had MiX Explorer mix up an app preference setting so that the Samsung File Explorer is never an option now. I'm not factory resetting for that. Eventually I'll probably track it down. Like you I tried the obvious solutions.
I've use the 3rd party Ringtones app but you need to keep it firewall blocked and package disable it when done as it's not trusted. If I have the sound file what I'll do is add it to the Ringtones folder, that works pretty well. I'm running on Pie though.
Been a while since I played with it... thankfully.
I'm hoping the One UI 4.1 update might fix my issue for me, but I will live either way
Thanks for the tip about blocking data usage for that app. I did just that
If you are running Android Pie, how are you staying secure?

Security isn't an issue on this heavily used device. Pie and up* are fairly secure unless you do something stupid...
I don't use wifi (not needed), and turn off bluetooth when not in use or in high risk areas. I'm always careful what I download (check the download folder at least once a day) and especially what I install. I rarely install from Playstore as all my app are vetted and backed up with installable copies (Apk Export) no Playstore needed for repairs or reloads. Google play Services is normally disabled unless needed as well. No social media apps loaded.
Karma Firewall is fully functional on Pie so I can easily see what's accessing the internet.
I run a Malwarebytes scan once a month.
Had a scripted jpeg (I downloaded it, my bad) and a trojan preloader (it snuck by the Samsung browser in spite of settings) about 2 years ago. The jpeg damaged some files in the download folder which I either repaired or deleted. Deleted the jpeg, KIA. The preloader got picked off (Malwarebytes IDed it, now I pay closer attention) before it got it's payload
Since then I'm more careful how I back out of bad websites, if needed close the window and clear the cache, once had to wipe the browser app data, but no factory resets due to malware.
Any malware I deal with immediately, if I can't erraticate it in a hour or two, factory reset time. Zero tolerance. Since I'm very familiar with this firmware and the loaded apps behavior anything abnormal is obvious and the witch hunt is on.
Lol, bad Samsung app updates have cost me more time to repair than malware.
The current OS load will be 2 yo in June with minimal maintenance, what's not to like?
*protected from the most serious rootkits like X-helper... at least to the point a factory reset will kill it.
