How to backup ROM and Recovery PX5 MTCE - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

Hallo all,
I cannot seem to find a clear answer on how to make a backup of my ROM and Recovery for my PX5 MTCE_MX2_V2394_1 unit. Does anyone know?
Note, I am a novice with this stuff, so clear instruction would be very much appreciated.
Many thanks!

It's not possible.

Use OTG method to extract partition by partition as a backup. See my OTG threads.
I have used this method on PX3, PX5 Android 6 and 8.

Not a problem, anytime and thanks for the kind message and 'thanks'!

Backup image Erisin

Hey. I guess some will call me noob but i searched alot how to backup my erisin firmware. Erisin does not file the firmwares nicely as joying does. In the recovery menu there is no option to save a backup. I searched all the internals for some update file but there is none. Does that mean that there is no way of going back after i flashed a custom rom?

Depending what type of Erisin you have, need to have the right update files copy on the SD card (usually this must be put in the GPS card) and flash it ... sometime this can be take automatically from the card when device has Starting update (with the android picture) but can be wip from the android menu ... I recommend you to ask the seller about to help you with instructions and the right default files ... don't forgot that you will need to set again all the right settings and install the applications from the beginning because you will have the factory default after flashing ...
Best regards,

I asked Erisin for the latest firmware version and they sent it to me without problem, I don't know if it will be the same for you, I can pass you the link, but you can ask Erisin for it.
What model is it?

MTCD_MX recovery.img (TWRP)?

Hi, developers and users of mtcd units... I'm looking to change the recovery of my HU (mtcd_mx) with TWRP recovery and I dont konw if TWRP supports our MTCD units.
I'm interesting for this recovery because with this I can do a full backup of HU, and I want to keep my hu safe. I have experienced TWRP on my phone and this kind of recovery it's a big deal...
So is there a twrp support for mtcd?
Thx!
I miss it too, but I don't think there's a compatible version for our HU
Yeah...
Right now I finished and sent a letter(mail) to TWRP team, to have mercy for us and start/extend in future their project on any kind of HeadUnit(MTCB/C/D)... Maybe someone will read my words and maybe we hear good news!

I'm hoping for TWRP too. This would make things easy.
I have come across some older versions of TWRP for these similar units, but I do not know if they are still compatible. I believe there was a TWRP 2.7 I saw but this was back in 2014.
I imagine since the hardware is still basically the same, if we had the proper memory locations and the driver source was still the same it would not be too difficult to compile a credible version.
EDIT:
I came across these guys, they were pretty deep with this stuff, granted there have been some changes since 2014, but they seem to know these systems very well.

Its been done before on MTCB/C units (theres a thread about it in the MTCB forums), every time you want to flash an MCU you have to re-flash the std recovery so pretty pointless. To make TWRP compatible youd have to have a fair bit of knowledge about the STMicroelectronics MCU these devices use and I dpobt anyone at TWRP has that.
I´m working in a trwp version based on twrp from h**ttps://github.com/Magendanz/android_device_rockchip and already get to boot twrp in my device (mtcd-xrc px3) with android 7.1.2 but can't get to mount partitions from internal memory.
Any help it will be apreciated.

You realise if you get it working you wont be able to flash MCUs ? Youd have to reflash the original recovery to flash them.

Ok, cool.
Personally I cant see the benefit of TWRP on these units, dont get me wrong, I use TWRP on my phone, just cant see the point here, thats just my opinion though.
Finally I got to work. After doing a lot of testing on the twrp.fstab file it worked fine.
If anyone is interested in how I got it, just ask. Now I will try also in a mtcc-kld6 unit.

[ROM][PX5][Oreo] For MTCD - From ROM Dump

Oreo ROM repacked from ROM dump here
Note: This flashable PX5 Oreo ROM is UNTESTED. Attempt to apply at your own risk
Both [update] and [supdate] images have been created. [supdate] should be tried first.
If soft brick, theory is, the same SDCARD tool can be used to recreate / flash back your Android 6 ROM - but I have not yet had time to test this. Worst case, if unit does not boot, SOM could be recovered by OTG, as detailed in my other threads or sent to me for reflash at your return-freight cost.
How to install: Use SDCARD creator tool in same location to create a bootable upgrade SDCARD. No further instruction will be given, if you're not an experienced with MTCD units, I do not recommend you try this.
Warning acknowledged, please post your results.
Full information on the development of this image and contributors can be found in this thread
..Reserved for updates...
In order of a soft brick I would like to test if a android 6 flash work. Can you provide the files I need for this?
EDIT: Nevermind.
Just booted after keeping it running for like ten minutes.
Got it installed and running. Will play with it more tomorrow once I install everything back. Thanks :good:

We've been successful - see Oreo thread. It requires Android 8 recovery first be installed and then the vendor supplied update.zip can be installed.

PX5 MTCD Problems Updating from 6.0

Hi all:
I just upgraded my board to a PX5 and it came with 6.0.1
I'd like to update to 8, but I can't seem to be able to. It errors out while trying to do it. Attached are a pic of the current version of things, and a pic of the error I'm getting.
I got the update.zip file from https://yadi.sk/d/umCvHqCDzHccr/RockChip PX5 Android 8.0/XRC
Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Android 6 cannot be upgraded directly to 8. You will need to prepare a bootable sd to get into android 8 recovery then flash from there.
Thanks for the tip. I managed to upgrade by doing as you said. I followed this video, which worked perfectly:

Wondefoo PX6 Unit 4Gb64Gb

Hi, I’m complelty new in android auto radios and I clearly f€ck it up with mine.
I have a Px6, rk3399, unit. I was trying to update the rom, the original from wondefoo, the seller, is very bad and could not get the rear view camera working as I could not change the video format.
The point is that, as a dumb, i updated the mcu file but wrongly and now I have a brick.
The screen is black with a few lines in the right. I cannot get it into the recovery mode. I have tried everything I’ve read.
Also I cannot find my original mcu file. I had Mtce_hxd_v3.62 file. The original rom was an android 10.
Could anyone help me? Thanks for your time.
Hi, the standard entry to recovery is: you hold RST or power for a long time until the buttons flash and then briefly again, see video:
If you didn't succeed, you can try to install the firmware again with recovery using IMG, you can find how to do it here:
[MTCD/E] Android 10 upgrade using official Free tools
To upgrade a MTCD/E PX3, PX5, PX6 from Android 6+ on using official Rockchip free tools - a reminder, bringing together multiple threads. First note - if coming from Android 6 - early versions of Realtek dual BT/WIFI (type 2) are not supported...

There is one more option, but you need a special USB cable:
[PX3 & 5] [OTG] - No Headunit Mod, recover or flash a SOM with a simple USB cable
"Factory" Recovery for MTCx PX3, PX5 and PX6 SOM. Finally - OTG for all without modifying your head-unit. With only basic electronic/soldering skills, get OTG and fearlessly flash or recover a 'bricked' MTCD/E (HCT printed on SOM) Rockchip PX3...

Thanks for your help.
I´ve tried connecting it to the pc and even without the screen I managed to get it into recovery mode. But after trying to install everything again it went completly black and now I cannot get any response from the unit.
It went completly black. I know it´s on because I use an external power unit and it shows that something has turned on, but not the unit completly.
Is ther any way to clean the flash or delete ir and install it again? It looks like if ewverythig was deleted but nothing has been put inside again.
Thanks for your time.

My son has told me that he pushed the button: "eraseflash" in the rkdevtool 2.71 while i was out for one thing.
Could that be the problem? Is there any way to fix it?
Thanks

He has told me that he did after my upgrade finished, so sadfully for me I have a completly erased unit. That´s why I could not get it working or even turning on.
Is there any way to get it back to life?
And again thanks for your time and help.
FIrst of all:
You posted in the wrong forum. You really should ask a mod to move your thread into https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/mtcd-software-development.7379/
MTCD/E ... you call it, are handled over there. There are the experts for these kind of units.
By the way: You need to reflash the unit with the rockchip flash tool. You need to get the needed files from the seller, or may be someone can help you over there with providing the IMG-files. I don´t see a chance without.

I have manged to get the unit connecting to the pc again, but what I cannot do is update the mcu to the working one.
Thanks for your answer, I´m new and I don´t know where to place the post.
Hi, I have installed and incorrect MCU MTCE file and my radio has gone black. I cannot see the screen so I cannot update, or I don´t know how to do it, by the normal method.
IS there any way to do it by usb cable? I have the unit connected to the pc. I have the correct MCU MTCE file but cannot install it in teh radio again.
Thanks for your time.
I have bricked my unit, a PX6 RK3399, by updating the mcu with the incorrect file. I already have the mtce-hxd correct file but I don´t know how to falsh it back to the unit. The only way I have is by the usb cable, the screen is black.
Thanks for your help.

I understand that, but wondefoo, the seller, is a ****ty vendor and does not help at all. I´ve asked them for it but they won´t answer.
Is there any way to falsh the mcu mtce file and afterwards install the correct firmware?
MCU MUSST be the correct one, any other MCU will brick that again.
Once again... this is the wrong forum.
I asked a mod now to move this entire thread.
In the already linked forum there are already some thread with MTCE_hxd devices: https://forum.xda-developers.com/se...c[child_nodes]=1&c[nodes][0]=7379&o=relevance

I already stated the one and mostly only way to get it back.
May be it works with a boot-SD with Android 10 on it, but... As long as you don´t have the correct boot.img, you won´t get anywhere.

Any IMG can be used on px6, it must be android 10 MTCD on px6, for example :HCT7_rk3399_10.0_IMG(20200415)

Then you install the OTA update according to the manufacturer:

I thank you very much for your help.
The problem I have is that I had a mtce-hxd mcu and the one You sent is HD. I have tried to install it, and it seemed that It worked but finally the screen still stays black.
I cannot get any image for the mtce-hxd mcu but I´ll keep looking and asking for it to see if someone has it. I have the image of the correct mtce-hxd but I have tried the method you sent and non of them has been able to update it.
Thanks a lof for your help.
