Do I need to unroot (Magisk) before updating to EMUI 9? - Honor View 10 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone,
I just have this question mentioned in the title.
And additionally, I guess I know the answer. There is no way rooting EMUI 9 on the Honor V10 yet right?
Kind regards,
Lazy

You don't have to unroot (I can only speak for Magisk), you will be unrooted automatically and root is not available for EMUI 9. (I'm currently converting back to 8 ... download running.)

There's this method to root EMUI9.

Also, do let us know if you could successfully rollback to EMUI8 as honor might have taken away that ability with the pie update it seems. Do keep me posted.

[Completed] I can't unroot my Honor 6, please help...

Hello there,
I'm sorry if you will read obsolete things, but I've just registered to this forum because I potentially need your helps and I'm a newbie in these things.
So I have a Honor 6 (H60-L04) and a few days ago Huawei released the EMUI 3.1 with Android 5.1.1 for my device.
The problem is that I have rooted my Honor 6 much time ago in order to use apps that require root access.
And now I don't know how to go back to unroot, relock bootloader and put the stock rom back...
I have downloaded your Honor 6 Multi Tool and I installed an EMUI 3.0 ROM (something like B390), and now the recovery is not the same as before, it only has "reboot" "wipe data/cache" and "factory reset" so I don't know how to reach the Bootloader.
Can you help me please? I know it will be hard and annoying for you.
Can somebody explain me step-by-step what to do to fix all this mixture that I've done?
Or is there a way to update to EMUI 3.1 without OTA, I mean with an sdcard?

ROOT Honor 6x EMUi 5.0 Android 7.0 USA version BLN-L24

hey guys im very new to the forums, i have been searching for root for the Honor 6x on android 7.0 but had no luck finding anyone that could. and im sure a lot of people in xda wants to root their 6x well i have some news for you! i have succesfully rooted my honor 6x by dumping the boot.img that i got from the update.app from the OTA update people say you can't install OTA updates with twrp as recovery but that's exactly what I did and how I got the boot.img and patched it with magisk.
i would upload the patched boot.img but XDA wont let new users upload outside the forums. :/ PM me and I'll try sending links or someone big enough to upload my links for everyone to use .
Bro there are guides all over this sub forum on how to root on 7.0 and emui 5.0....matter of fact right here specifically the one I used.

***Warning to anyone looking to root don't use any files from this person....this is BS and I wouldn't trust a boot.img, flashable zip or any files really from a person advertising said files with their very FIRST POST!!!***

I understand your concern and I am new but that does not mean I'm trying to brick someone's device and flashing twrp on emui 5.0 on the honor 6x did not work for the U.S variant as it stays on the screen "your device is booting..." I had uploaded a how to on my second post.

I apologize and have edited my post. You have to admit its pretty suspect for someone to come to a forum where there are already step by step guides on how to root EMUI 4.1 and 5.0 respectively and say on their first post ever, "since there is no way to root I found my own way, and oh hey by the way heres my patched boot image message me for the files."
Wonder why yours got stuck on booting were you using the TWRP off the official site? Ive rooted my phone 3 or so times in this last month on EMUI 5.0 and never had a hiccup.

I did use the official twrp and while I was looking for root other users of the U.S variant were talking about how they were getting stuck on the same screen. Since it happened to me and other users of the same variant I assumed it was everyone. But I do wanna upload the magisk patched boot.img for the people who are having the problems that's all. This account is new yes but I have used XDA for 4 years I made a account this year to try to help. Yes does seems suspicious but so does installing a Chinese app for twrp.

Help on rooting BLL-L22 @ EMUI 5

I finally managed to snag myself a bootloader unlock code from dc-unlocker.
So can I ask for help for directions here as to where can I read and follow rooting, TWRP installation and installing either a rooted Oreo or a modded working Nougat ROM of BLL-L22?
Another question, out of curiosity, is there a way to switch this phone's software to BLN (Honor 6x) since they're so similar, as to make it easier to just follow proper instructions here, rather than find if any method here would work on my model?
Thanks!
Uh, sure. First of all, you can get Oreo. Official EMUI 8. Or you can flash a Pie custom ROM. Now you need Oreo for that as well so we'll first cover that. To update to Oreo first decide what firmware you want. You can either update to EMUI 8 India or China. India is good as daily driver. China is good for flashing Custom ROMs. Once you have decided, download HWOTA for Honor 6x from XDA. Search for it. Next you need firmware files. If you want Oreo from India search for BLN-L22 HNC185 on Firmware Finder and then download latest Full-OTA. Otherwise search for BLN-AL20 and download latest Full-OTA.

Best way to prep Honor6x for OpenKirin?

Hi,
I have the an european Honor6x BLN-21 still on EMUI 5.0.3. I want to upgrade to OpenKirin/Omnirom 5.2 but that requires EMUI 8.
Do I understand it correctly that I can use "Resurrection Remix OS Beta 3" to get my Honor6x to EMUI 8? or can i directly use Omnirim 5.2?
Cheers
Hello there,
absolutely not! You've misunderstood the correct path to follow. You can't flash RROS beta 3 over EMUI 5.0.3 because it requires your device to be already on EMUI 8 in way to correctly flash those ROMs. You should do this before:
1) unlock the bootloader of your device;
2) debrand your device to India variant thanks to this guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/guide-debranding-to-india-variant-bln-t3679402;
3) update to EMUI 8 in way to finally obtain Treble compatibility, steps listed here https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/update-bln-l22c675-emui-5-x-x-to-emui-8-t3819317
If you manage to update to EMUI 8, you'll open wide your path to many other stuff (GSIs, ROMs for EMUI 8), and so you'll have the better base/preparation to start playing. Good luck
alright ill to become indian
if were on that, is whats the cheapest way to get the bootloader unlocked these days?
DC-Unlocker is the anwser. The credits necessary to unlock the device are 4$, as said by many other users, but since that in this way you can give a new life to your phone, it's an acceptable compromise.

Install Huawei HiSuite on your pc and connect phone with your usb cable.. hit update and it should update your phone.. I think it may do it incrementally.. so 9.0 then 9.1 and finally 10.0.. You will see...
Look at this thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/huawei-p20-pro/development/emui-10-hisuite-proxy-t4109035
If you need any informations I can help.
Yeah.. was able to figure it out.. and am currently in 9.1 using the HiSuite via PC. Is Android 10 update worth it? If so, i will do it manually via firmware finder method.

Yes, it's a pure refresh from 9.1 (a crappy port of Android 9.1)
The firmware finder way is not working anymore. You can use the app to get the links. Nothing more.
You need Hisuite Proxy and Hisuite.
See my posts and everything.
After sometime, again i got few more updates,, and i am currently downloading Android 10 again.. So atleast it wil be with latest security patches.. lets see how it goes..
Btw, i saw a GSI image of Android 10 for P20 Pro. any one uses it here?

You can't use it unless you unlock your bootloader, which Huawei stopped doing. They then proceeded to remove the method used to unlock the device in Android 10.
Yeah.. i just found out.. its so sad.. its such a beautiful device,, unlocking would have let me use it for a long time now..
