For those, who don't know, there's how to unlock/lock bootloader without erasing data:
1. Turn off the phone
2.Hold power & volume down, keep the volume down button pressed!
3.Connect phone to PC, on PC fastboot type:
Code:
fastboot oem unlock
still keep the volume down pressed
4.Type:
Code:
fastboot reboot
when phone starts to reboot, release volume down(when black screen appear), for me, when it starts to reboot, I disconnect the phone too
5. Now phone should be unlocked without deleting data partition.
Tested, for me worked 100%, but you need to be careful, or you will lose data!
I hope it helps.

it worked for me.thank you very much.
you don't need to hold the vol down button all the time, you just need to hold it right after you enter the unlock/lock code ,then the phone will boot into fastboot again instead of erase menu
worked
Thanks for this! Now, is there a way to install TWRP without losing data?

Yes, after unlocking the bootloader turn off the phone and reboot in fastboot mode.
On windows command type "fastboot boot twrp.img", where twrp.img is the name on recovery, and when the phone rebooting into TWRP in provvisoring mode, flash the zip file of the TWRP: in there mode the TWRP are permanent and your data are save.
Sorry for my poor english and hope that all are clar.

Thanks, yes it worked, but in Android 9 you need to grant/tick <OEM unlock> in settings/system/Advanced/developer options first.
Can anyone confirm that this works with Nexus 6P? (Sorry I know this is the Xiaomi area...)
Wait... need to hold just volume down or power and volume together?

Will the phone factory reset if you shut it down, or restart it anytime after doing this? Or will you be safe?

Hi, my volume down button is broken, and I'm just wondering if there are any way to get into fastboot without hardware buttons... I was flashing through fastboot and I made some mistakes in the process, so basicly I have no S. O.
When I turn on the phone, it goes straight to recovery mode, but I'm not able to choose any other option, because my volume button is broken
Is there any solution or workaround to get into fastboot? Is to hard to repair the volume buttons? Thanks in advance...
TWRP custom recovery has a Reboot option, which includes 'Reboot to Bootloader.'

Setup a PC / Laptop for ADB. There is a command: adb reboot-bootloader
If ADB in recovery mode does not work with Windows, use Linux (an Ubuntu Live CD is enough) - install fastboot and use the command: sudo adb reboot-bootloader

Possibly, but without a working volume rocker I see no way out of your situation.
I bought a used OPO which already had an unlocked bootloader and lineageOS 14.1 installed, my goal is to root and to do so I need to activate the option with twrp (the SuperSU already is on the LineageOS 14.1, but needs to be activated with twrp)
unfortunately, when I flash twrp, I am unable to get it to boot into recovery I have tried various key combinations, volUP+power gets me into fastboot (how i flashed it), volDOWN+power seems to power down before anything happens.
this is how i flashed twrp
Turn the phone off. Then boot it into fastboot mode by holding volume up + power.
Rename the recovery file that you downloaded above to recovery.img. *Make sure that you rename it to recovery.img NOT recovery.img.img* Remember that this file should be placed in the platform-tools folder inside of the android-sdk-windows folder on your desktop.
Open a new command prompt and run the following commands:
Code:
cd Desktop/android-sdk-windows/platform-tools
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Once the flash has completed, Don't use the "Fastboot Reboot" Command Instead Unplug Your phone then Manually turn it off by pressing and holding power button until it switches off. Now to enter your newly installed custom recovery, hold volume down + power. The phone should boot into recovery mode. Now that you have a custom recovery, you may continue to the final step.
Close the command prompt window.
Turn off the phone completely. Then press and hold volume down and power. Release when the first screen comes on.
Alternatively enable Developer options (Settings - About phone - press Build Number several times to enable) then enable Advanced Restart in Developer options and when you press Power button and Restart you then get the option for Restart, Soft Restart, Recovery and Bootloader.
the only options in advanced restart are power off restart airplane mode my gmail account and create new user, this might be because i am using lineageOS and not the stock OS.
when i do the volDOWN+power, the one plus logo appears, the screen closes, then the logo reappears then It is as if i had oppened the phone normaly.
Should i just give up and put the phone back to 100% stock? That ought to work but i<m hoping its not necessary.

following the corresponding lineageos guide i executed from my linux machine
Code:
fastboot flash boot twrp.img

rebooting got me to the boot loader. i cannot get into fastboot. (nor anywhere else.)
neither via adb reboot fastboot nor volume down + power.
I cannot recall having experienced this before.
Any help to how I can get into fastboot?
Cheers!

Ohhh! That's what you meant by "stuck in boot loader". Yeah fastboot won't work there. And you've tried vol down + power multiple times to get to the actual bootloader screen (where you can fastboot)?
Try forcing a shut down (vol up + power) and retry a few times. What were you doing before it got stuck on the boot loader is unlocked screen? You might just need to flash the stock boot.img but you need to try to get to the bootloader screen to run the fastboot command.
If all else fails, you'll have to use the MSM tool (which will wipe everything).
EDIT: Yeah MSM tool requires a windows machine. Not sure how to run it via Linux. Maybe there's a windows emulator out there that can run windows .exe files?

That shouldn't have broken the ability to get into the bootloader. Did you have TWRP installed before or was this your first time? Most of the hardware button combos should work regardless of any system/software issues. So vol down + power isn't working, have you tried vol up + power to force a shutdown and retry?

What exact device and software are you running? Have you tried toggling it to "reboot to recovery" on the phone itself? The fastboot command seems to have been successfu so no need to run anymore fastboot commands. Now it's just a matter of getting the phone into recovery. You can even just hold the vol down + power to try and get there.

That most likely worked because you're on A9. A10 will not accept that twrp img since it's incompatible.
This is why it's good to mention device/software details of the phone during the creation of an xda post. But glad you got it.

@Shadow Of Leaf, Thanks for your work.
I tried to flash the .img file today using fastboot command and for some reasons my F1 reboots to system, not recovery.
The fastboot flash command completed OK for both Sending and Writing but when I tried
fastboot reboot recovery
the phone reboots to the system.
I also tried
fastboot boot TWRP-3.5.2-F1.img
but get the same result.
Any idea what went wrong and how to fix it? TIA.

Thanks for the prompt response, appreciate it.
I was not clear in my previous post, what I meant was I tried 2 ways
1. flash using fastboot flash command, and
2. boot directly using fastboot boot command
and both times I could not get TWRP to run.
Here is the output of the first method:
When I click on Vol- while the device was rebooting, I saw the boot logo andn then a screen with Chinese menus on the left top of the screen. Weird!
May be the file was not written properly? I tried to redownload the file twice but same thing happens.

and both times I could not get TWRP to run.
Here is the output of the first method:

When I click on Vol- while the device was rebooting, I saw the boot logo andn then a screen with Chinese menus on the left top of the screen. Weird!
May be the file was not written properly? I tried to redownload the file twice but same thing happens.

did you unlock your bootloader ???
if yes when flash try the power and volume down combination to go recovery
if not try this
Unlock the bootloader (will result in a factory data reset and a warning message on the boot screen) YOU LOSE YOUR WARRANTY BY DOING THIS!!!
a) Enable Developer options
b) Enable OEM unlock and USB debugging. (Install ADB drivers on your computer)
c) Connect your phone to USB and in a command window type adb reboot bootloader
d) Type fastboot flashing unlock
e) Confirm your decision on the phone (You can re-lock the bootloader with fastboot flashing lock)

I did unlock the bootloader, and every time the phone reboot I see a warning that the device is unsafe.
It appears that flashing went OK, as reported by the 'fastboot flast recovery...' command. But when I try to go to recovery with Power+VolDown combination the phone just could not run TWRP!
I am not sure if it is related but after power off, when I try to reboot with Power+Vol Down (or Up) combination the boot logo appears then disappears (looping?) and I do not see a boot menu (as shown in a YouTube video). When I reboot from fastboot it seems to go to some boot program with a Chinese menu.

@Shadow Of Leaf
Appreciate you prompt help!
Not sure what happened but I retried one more time and guess what it works this time . Thank you so much!
I notice that it takes long time to show the menu and it looks like TWRP tries to decrypt data, even though I already did a factory reset.
Now I can root and install custom ROMs. Thanks again!

you welcome anytime
Hi thank you so much for your work.
But when I try to flash recovery and suddenly, when I type fastboot reboot recovery , it says something like can't get recovery partition unable, and then when I go manually into recovery I get stock one.
Of course the flashing of twrp recovery goes all well, so it's a strange issue. Just one time after the flash I successfully got twrp but lost after reboot and I didn't have internal memory mounted.
Can you help me?
Thanks

just go to stockrom and type adb reboot recovery
I solved flashing the twrp by another person, currently on phone so can't see who was.
Anyway it appears that was an issue with decryption, because that twrp can see internal storage. Flashed all and will send feedback in appropriate thread ;-)

hello friend, could you tell me what process you did to compile a twrp for your umidigi, I wanted to make one for my umidigi a9 pro 2021, it has the same processor as your device.

you can use this guide to build twrp for your device and use this device tree thats is compatible with your device and has a newer vendor (mine is comptable with old pie vendor that will have issues with data encryption)
link of the guide : https://github.com/ADeadTrousers/twrp_device_Unihertz_Atom_LXL/blob/master/docs/HOW-TO-BUILD.md
links of device tree : https://github.com/ADeadTrousers/twrp_device_Unihertz_Atom_XL_EEA
Common device treehttps://github.com/ADeadTrousers/twrp_device_Unihertz_Atom_LXL
you have to change the common device tree and the device tree to your device
Hi,
I successfully unlocked the bootloader and tried to install "lineage-18.1-20210917-recovery-vayu.img", it seemed to go well but on attempted to reboot to recovery, the default MIUI version was re-installed.
I tried a couple more things, can't really remember exactly but all I get now is the FASTBOOT screen.
If I press the POWER button, I get a vibration, then POCO logo and screen then goes to the FASTBOOT screen,
If I press any combination of Vol+/Vol- + Power, I get the vibration, POCO logo then back to FASTBOOT screen.
If I use ./fastboot devices using ADB, the serial # for the X3 Pro displays correctly.
PS C:\Users\parke\Desktop\platform-tools> ./fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Sending 'recovery' (61996 KB) OKAY [ 1.403s]
Writing 'recovery' OKAY [ 0.128s]

I've probably without knowing, have corrupted or damaged the boot to partition.
I'm a newbie with X3 Pro mobile, can anyone please assist me.
Thanking you in anticipation.

i don't know how can i really help you with that, what i do know is that since you can access fastboot mode, MAYBE you can reinstall the stock miui rom by flashing with miflashtool, please follow munchy's video on youtube, he explained it well and I'm sure you can follow it.

Do you have a ROM that you recommend, just require it to be light and stable?

Is your bootloader really unlocked??? Have you seen an unlocked lock while booting earlier or the unlock tool showed "unlocked" when connecting mobile to it?
If yes, then:
- grab a good recovery image file (can be for instance OrangeFox on its official website, for Poco X3 PRO there is a beta available that works fine but for backups) and save it in your PC, on same of fastboot folder
- turn on your mobile on fastboot, plug to PC, wait a few seconds, type the fastboot command to list devices as you wrote....confirm you find mobile.
- now fastboot flash the recovery image to RECOVERY. See if finish with no error.
- now reboot to RECOVERY, not to system (Android, normal boot). Can do this issuing a fastboot command only OR by holding Vol+ and then power (keep Vol+ till recovery screen appears).
After flashing recovery image if you start booting to system the MIUI kills the recovery. Probably that is what happened to you.
Now under recovery format data (the menu you have to type "yes" ) and then you can connect/mount data to PC and transfer LOS zip (and Gapps, Magisk) and flash. Or can use USB OTG. Or can let zip files on SD Card on tray.
The bootloader is unlocked, I see the unlocked symbol at bootup.
Tried TWRP and OrangeFox so revovery seems to be working.

In recovery, I formated data, typed yes but if I try to boot back into OrangeFox, the stock muiu Fastboot has replaced OrangeFox Recovery.

On PC: unzip the OrangeFox zip and get the file recovery.img to the fastboot program folder
On mobile: put in fastboot mode
On PC: open cmd on the fastboot folder and type
fastboot devices
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot reboot recovery
On mobile (will be in OrangeFox):
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
format data (typing "yes" )
reboot to RECOVERY
....now will reboot back to OrangeFox
transfer zips by MTP or plug OTG (and mount it!)
flash zips
format data (typing "yes" )
reboot to SYSTEM
One important point: are you flashing LOS 18.1 (Android 11)? If so be sure your current MIUI is v12.5.1 or newer.
Hi,
Thanks for taking the time to write your detailed information, much appreciated.
