Does anyone have problems with this? If I tap the gear icon next to "current screen saver" selection (settings>display>screen saver) it force closes settings. I've sent the info off to Google, but wondering if anyone else has seen this.
This happens to me as well.
I was hoping the new update would fix it, but it didn't.
Same here
I also see the crash in Pixel 3 December update. Both clock and photo settings as well as Lucid screensaver. Sent bug report.
From looking at the stack trace, it seems the issue is that FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK requirement is enforced in Android 9.
From developer.android.com/about/versions/pie/android-9.0-changes-all:
"With Android 9, you cannot start an activity from a non-activity context unless you pass the intent flag FLAG_ACTIVITY_NEW_TASK. If you attempt to start an activity without passing this flag, the activity does not start, and the system prints a message to the log."
My guess is that an update must be made in these file and/or those adjacent:

android/platform/packages/apps/Settings/master/src/com/android/settings/dream/CurrentDreamPreferenceController.java

Exclude app from "clear all" on Recent Apps screen after 2016-03-15 OTA update?
On the 2016-03-15 OTA update they added the "clear all" button to the Recent Apps screen. Unfortunately it also kills the Alarm Clock Xtreme process and the alarm no longer works.
Is there a way to exclude certain apps from being killed?

Same thing here! especially with whats app, i do a close all or swipe and it closes the foreground and background task, i just want foreground to be off. This cause me to not receive me notification UNTIL i open the app, i have no issues with this on my lg or galaxy. On the Blu there's a press and hold option on the recent apps, but when you hold it it just goes back to the previous screen. Am I missing something here? Ive had nothing but hell with the phone and especially with the 504 error, which they fixed, but that took WAY too long. And dont let me get started with customer support!
Update - Started seeing issue with 3rd party keyboards, i prefer swiftkey as my go to. And when i swipe the app close, after i have set my keyboard it constantly defaults. this was not present on the previous update. I thought the 504 error was bad but this cuts the cake. Very very frustrating!!! My workaround was to disable every keyboard even system to allow it to run. I guess the recent apps is broke, need to be corrected!
you can install system manager .apk and system manager sdk.apk from gionee E8 ,
I have posted it before on another thread after install it . you can hold on clear buttom it i'll open process white list add any thing want to not close.
Me too i Started seeing issue with 3rd party keyboards, i always use swiftkey. But the dam keyboard set constantly to defaults after the update. Even worst some time the key board set to touchpal that i unable to get rid off, this was not present on the previous update.
Ever since updating my Google Pixel to 7.1.2 I've been having this bug occur related to Daydream and apps that "draw overtop" other apps (floating widgets and background apps).
I use three background apps. Set Orientation, Pie Control, and GYF (pop up app launcher).
What happens is after using a Daydream app, those apps I mentioned refuse to work, even after exiting VR mode. I will sometimes get an error related to permissions and only a restart of the phone gets them going again. Toggling "float overtop" permissions in Settings does nothing.
I spoke to Google Support and they suggested submitting feedback via the Daydream app which I did. Anyone else experience this?

Hi guys
A while back I received an OTA update to L29C185B186 and ever since then I'm regularly (multiple times daily) having an issue with apps, most particularly Facebook, force quitting without any error or warning. It unexpectedly animates in a similar way to pressing the home button to minimise, then when I go to the app switcher I see it listed there but if I tap on it then it slides away as if I closed the app.
Anyone else experiencing this and/or know how to fix?
Stock operating system, no root
Go to Settings - Battery - Settings icon up top - turn off Close power excessive apps.,
It's a bug, it's supposed to close background apps but it does it to foreground ones too.
Think you hit the nail on the head there, Facebook among other apps does appear in the history of autoclosed apps. Useful feature when it works right, but bugs will be bugs
Thanks mate
All,
First time poster, frequent visitor of XDA Forums. I've come across an odd issue that I don't know how to solve and I'm hoping some of you smarter than me folks can get me squared away.
I have a Galaxy S8+ from AT&T running Android 7.0 and Samsung Experience 8.1.
Problem:
I've recently noticed a delay or completely non-updating interface on my phone. It updates on occasion, but I can't determine what triggers an update. For example, I will pick up my phone from the desk and when I press the power button it shows the accurate time. When I unlock the device, the sense flip clock I use on the main home screen shows an earlier time (could be 30 minutes... could be a few hours). I don't believe it's just the Sense app because I noticed this issue where I checked a facebook messenger app that came and and when I closed the app, it still showed I had 1 notification. I went back in thinking I had another new message, but I didn't. So it was still hanging on to the notification. It happened a couple times with a text message as well. Most importantly, my calendar doesn't alert me prior to an appointment either, even though it's showing in my calendar and an alert is active. If I save an event, and exit, I can normally see the event appear on the on widget immediately as well... but that hasn't been happening. I have to press the widget to open it and confirm it is there (which it always is). Eventually it refreshes and shows up. But that delay is likely the reason why I'm not getting my alerts.
All of this did seem to happen after a recent update Samsung/AT&T pushed out but I don't know for sure. I tried clearing the cache from the boot menu but it doesn't seem there is wide success with that.
And perhaps I'm just not a good enough user, but everything isn't all backed up in the cloud so doing the factory reset to me is always a fairly large task as I have many things to manually transfer out and then back in. Not sure if there are great tools that help with this on a stock phone.
BUMP
try disabling battery optimization for those apps.
It seems that you have several bugs and if they all start happening after you have installed the latest update, then expect a patch coming soon.

I have actually done that. Found very limited success. I'm also finding very few results on this topic. Surely it's not just me though.
And I'm dreading the idea of a hard reset as I have many things on my phones, not all of which is sync'd to the cloud so it's a task to back things up appropriate. Specifically regarding "encrypted" apps like my password keeper app etc.
It would be great if there was a software application that allowed you to backup whatever is necessary to not lose data, then wipe the phone and instead of just simply restoring the full phone (which is likely to create the same problem one had before the hard reset), you could simply dump back in app data as needed. It would also help diagnose if the problem lies in a specific app's data.
High level overview of issues...
I have the Ring Doorbell app. I get notifications after "live". Could be 5 minutes, could be 1 hour... or possibly not at all. I have the app setup on my wife's iPhone and she gets them immediately. If I restart the phone, I will get notified right away (it's like it runs the app again and then I get the notification). Keep in mind, this is AFTER i disabled the battery optimization feature for the Ring app.
I also notice it occasionally with texting. I won't have any text notification in the notification panel, nor will my messaging icon have a little red circle indicating a message is there. But if I open the app, a specification conversation will have a red circle indicating a new text is unread.
All of this is leading me to believe the Samsung UI itself is not updating and therefore notifications that actually have arrived (from whatever app), are not displaying because of the UI and not because of their own delay.
Because of this concern I have turned off battery optimization for "System UI", "Themes", and "TouchWiz Home". I have not seen any change however.
[Solved]
I was able to determine by various other threads around the web (thought for sure I'd find it here, but I didn't) that the culprit might be the Google app. Supposedly it was fixed in some prior release, but it's not on my Galaxy S8+ w/ AT&T.
Once I disabled the Google app all the odd issues with notifications and clock interfaces and app icons not updating went away. The downside to disabling it is that I lose the Google Assistant functionality which stinks but otherwise there is no impact to using the phone. I re-enabled it at a later date and it worked fine for a few days and then started acting up again. Once I disabled it, the problems all disappeared. Clearly Google app is to blame.
I was experimenting with Activity Launcher, (don't do so if you have important stuff in your tablet, it can cause problems which can lead to a factory reset). And here are some behaviours of some special activities. You may have already experienced them. Please post here if you noticed some.
(I'm using a Fire HD 8 (7th Generation) running FireOS 5.6.0.0.)
---------------------
[STRANGE] => If you launch com.android.internal.app.ForwardIntentToUserOwner then the device reboots, INSTANTLY. (Without showing Amazon logo, it instantly goes back to Fire logo and reboots as usual at the moment you launch the activity. Maybe it triggers a system-level crash?)
{I think it is safe, though I'm not 100% sure, because I have done it many times, feel free for try it yourself.}
---------------------
Others:-
If you launch "com.amazon.accessorynotifier.AccessoryNotifier" under "Accessory Notifier", Activity launcher will be unresponsive until you press the recent button and return to it.
If you launch the only activity under "Amazon - Bluetooth Internals" it will show a strange console-like activity about Bluetooth.
If you launch "Update Game Controller" under Amazon Bluetooth DFU it will show an activity to connect... a game controller! ? Not sure if that will work though.
If you select the only activity under "Application Compatibility Enforcer" it will show a strange gray-ish shade overlay that prevents you from doing anything until you close it from Recents, apart from pressing the virtual buttons and pulling the status bar down.
Selecting "com.amazon.managedprovisioning.DeviceOwnerProvisioningActivity" under "Device Provisioner" will show a first-boot activity (Set up your device) with a Google-ish UI and you will get a popup saying,
Oops!
This device is already set up!
OK
Pressing OK will close the activity.
Selecting "com.amazon.managedprovisioning.DeviceOwnerProvisioningActivity" under "Device Provisioner" will show a black screen and a popup saying,
Oops!
Managed profile provisioning is not supported in Fire.
OK
Pressing OK will close the activity.
There are a lot more, but I'm off for now, will complete this later.
Good Luck!
