Hi guys
A while back I received an OTA update to L29C185B186 and ever since then I'm regularly (multiple times daily) having an issue with apps, most particularly Facebook, force quitting without any error or warning. It unexpectedly animates in a similar way to pressing the home button to minimise, then when I go to the app switcher I see it listed there but if I tap on it then it slides away as if I closed the app.
Anyone else experiencing this and/or know how to fix?
Stock operating system, no root
Go to Settings - Battery - Settings icon up top - turn off Close power excessive apps.,
It's a bug, it's supposed to close background apps but it does it to foreground ones too.
Think you hit the nail on the head there, Facebook among other apps does appear in the history of autoclosed apps. Useful feature when it works right, but bugs will be bugs
Thanks mate

Hey everyone,
This is intended to people who use Whatsapp or apps that show similar behavior.
If Whatsapp is in the background app list, I can easily hold the back button, access the list, and click on it and it will resume from where I was.
However, if the background is still in the background app list, and I clock on the Whatsapp live tile, the app has to re-launch itself instead of resuming from where I left it.
Is that a Whatsapp malfunction or normal WP7 behaviour? Other apps do not behave like that so I am guessing it's whatsapp.
I only had my Lumia 900 for a week and still new to WP7.
Your help/comment/feedback will be appreciated.
Thank you.
clicking on the app-tile will force every app to relaunch (except some built-in "apps" like your browser and so on)

I find that a bit odd don't you think? What for?
It's a limitation of Windows Phone right now. I think it's mostly done to reduce the amount of background processes running and hence will give better battery life.
Hopefully this will change with WP8!
Actually, that's mostly incorrect. It is the default behavior of WP7, and the reason for that behavior is to allow the user to re-launch an app that has become hung in some way (since apps can trap teh Back button, it's entirely possible to make an app that the OS provides no other way for the user to exit from). In theory (I haven't tried it myself), it's possible to make a configuration change that causes the default "launch" behavior to be resume, rather than restart.
Background processes are completley irrelevent, because WP7 has no (significant) process limit and does not let apps run in the background (consuming battery) anyhow. Backgrounded apps are fully suspended; they use RAM but if another program needs it, the suspended app will be tombstoned (think of it as "hibernated"), the process ended, and the RAM freed.
Interesting although a bit annoying since the app takes 5 seconds to relaunch and fetch messages although the messages have been received and notifications have appeared on the top.
Exclude app from "clear all" on Recent Apps screen after 2016-03-15 OTA update?
On the 2016-03-15 OTA update they added the "clear all" button to the Recent Apps screen. Unfortunately it also kills the Alarm Clock Xtreme process and the alarm no longer works.
Is there a way to exclude certain apps from being killed?

Same thing here! especially with whats app, i do a close all or swipe and it closes the foreground and background task, i just want foreground to be off. This cause me to not receive me notification UNTIL i open the app, i have no issues with this on my lg or galaxy. On the Blu there's a press and hold option on the recent apps, but when you hold it it just goes back to the previous screen. Am I missing something here? Ive had nothing but hell with the phone and especially with the 504 error, which they fixed, but that took WAY too long. And dont let me get started with customer support!
Update - Started seeing issue with 3rd party keyboards, i prefer swiftkey as my go to. And when i swipe the app close, after i have set my keyboard it constantly defaults. this was not present on the previous update. I thought the 504 error was bad but this cuts the cake. Very very frustrating!!! My workaround was to disable every keyboard even system to allow it to run. I guess the recent apps is broke, need to be corrected!
you can install system manager .apk and system manager sdk.apk from gionee E8 ,
I have posted it before on another thread after install it . you can hold on clear buttom it i'll open process white list add any thing want to not close.
Me too i Started seeing issue with 3rd party keyboards, i always use swiftkey. But the dam keyboard set constantly to defaults after the update. Even worst some time the key board set to touchpal that i unable to get rid off, this was not present on the previous update.
Hi everyone, ever since the update, my apps stop running in the background when I close the app. Example: I don't get Whatsapp notifications anymore unless I open the app and keep it open. If I close all open apps, I will no longer receive any of the notifications for any of them.
I went into the battery settings disabled battery saver mode but that didn't do anything.
I would appreciate any help you could provide.

It's apparently one of the issues with the latest OTA update, where closing all running apps will terminate the background processes associated with the apps closed. Prior to the update and the Close All button being added to the recent apps list, I don't think it had this problem (I don't use Whatsapp, but my Skype and Discord notifications still come through even if I don't have them on my recent apps list).
This is a little frustrating. Noticed that I wasn't getting any notifications from tasker, pushover, textra, hangouts, inbox and etc.
Also noticed that pushover will not update unless it is off of wifi. All my other devices receive notifications on this wifi. IE nothing blocked.
I have had to open all the programs that I want to receive notifications from, open. Not the best work around.

I noticed that on occasion there will be small text under the new button that says "long press to set up apps that could run in the background" I do it but it doesn't seem to do anything, maybe free up some of the RAM but that's about it. I'm wondering if there is a bug and if it's supposed to show something.
Has anyone else tried the long press?
As of now all I do is keep a folder on the desktop labeled background apps. It helps big time when I accidentally tap the close all button. But my solution as of now is to keep things open that don't seem to work in the background. I've been experimenting with what works and it seems like in some recent app updates they begin to work without being open. I know for sure that facebook and now facebook messenger work without being open, as well as some google services. I have a memory clearer app that I use when I'm not using my phone so it clears whatever it can without killing the apps. But that's what I have as of now, trial and error to figure out what I need to leave open and what I can close. And I strongly recommend the folder, I have had many times where I accidentally close everything and forget what I had to leave open.
It's a bummer though, I just bought the phone and then this update came out. Kinda kills the excitement of getting a new awesome phone if I have to deal with this frustration :/ Other than that, it's definately a nice step up from a Samsung S4.

does it misbehave after rebooting? or all the time?

Misbehave as in not show anything after a long press?
Yes, nothing happens anytime I try it. After reboot, the first time I pull up the running apps is when I get the prompt. After the first long press after a reboot, the prompt is gone. If I have an app open and then I do the long press, I am taken back to the desktop, but no matter what I try, nothing seems to happen after the long press other than being taken back to the desktop if I had an app open.
I have the same issue, I thought it was a Internet connection issue (see my thread) but after digging deeper realised my background apps werent running after closing them and the long press option does nothing.
I have the same problem. Any solution?

I've just installed the new update and it looks like the issues I had with background apps closing when clearing all apps has been fixed. I've got no apps running in the foreground yet can see Whatsapp, Fitbit, etc still running and I'm receiving notifications for them.
Had this phone a week now, mainly pleased apart from a few annoying bugs, video recordings jitter and stutter, touch screen sometimes not responding, However the thing that is annoying me the most is after a while apps I've opened keep disappearing from recent apps, and I can tell it's closing them because there is a delay when I run the same app again even though it should be in memory ! I've disabled all power intensive crap notifications and stopped it from closing anything but are still being forced closed, facebook, Instagram, gmail etc, my nexus 6p doesn 't do this and still shows recent apps from weeks ago not a few hours.
Bump,
Wow no one else has noticed apps you've opened after a while disappear from recent apps ? I've never owned a single android phone that does this apart from this one.
It happens to me to, it doesn't show the apps anymore in recents for some reason but when I open them it's there instantly like it's kept in memory. Only happens when my device is sleeping for a long time.

I think it seems it's in memory because it's so quick but I think they are being closed, never had this problem with my Nexus 6p
Yes this is happening to me too with China version AL00C00...every morning I'm locking in recent apps list Facebook, messenger, viber, Instagram because I want notifications to comes instantly from this apps... That's the only way.... Anyway I had noticed that sometimes after 10 or 15 hours some of them disappear from the list but still running... When I open them they start instantly and I can see that they still locked again in recent apps...
I don't know why this happens...
Im on B167 rom...

I don't know whats going on but I've even disable these social apps from the "ignore optimization" battery fields and sometime some apps are still disappearing, not had this problem on any phone i've owned previously.
All,
First time poster, frequent visitor of XDA Forums. I've come across an odd issue that I don't know how to solve and I'm hoping some of you smarter than me folks can get me squared away.
I have a Galaxy S8+ from AT&T running Android 7.0 and Samsung Experience 8.1.
Problem:
I've recently noticed a delay or completely non-updating interface on my phone. It updates on occasion, but I can't determine what triggers an update. For example, I will pick up my phone from the desk and when I press the power button it shows the accurate time. When I unlock the device, the sense flip clock I use on the main home screen shows an earlier time (could be 30 minutes... could be a few hours). I don't believe it's just the Sense app because I noticed this issue where I checked a facebook messenger app that came and and when I closed the app, it still showed I had 1 notification. I went back in thinking I had another new message, but I didn't. So it was still hanging on to the notification. It happened a couple times with a text message as well. Most importantly, my calendar doesn't alert me prior to an appointment either, even though it's showing in my calendar and an alert is active. If I save an event, and exit, I can normally see the event appear on the on widget immediately as well... but that hasn't been happening. I have to press the widget to open it and confirm it is there (which it always is). Eventually it refreshes and shows up. But that delay is likely the reason why I'm not getting my alerts.
All of this did seem to happen after a recent update Samsung/AT&T pushed out but I don't know for sure. I tried clearing the cache from the boot menu but it doesn't seem there is wide success with that.
And perhaps I'm just not a good enough user, but everything isn't all backed up in the cloud so doing the factory reset to me is always a fairly large task as I have many things to manually transfer out and then back in. Not sure if there are great tools that help with this on a stock phone.
BUMP
try disabling battery optimization for those apps.
It seems that you have several bugs and if they all start happening after you have installed the latest update, then expect a patch coming soon.

I have actually done that. Found very limited success. I'm also finding very few results on this topic. Surely it's not just me though.
And I'm dreading the idea of a hard reset as I have many things on my phones, not all of which is sync'd to the cloud so it's a task to back things up appropriate. Specifically regarding "encrypted" apps like my password keeper app etc.
It would be great if there was a software application that allowed you to backup whatever is necessary to not lose data, then wipe the phone and instead of just simply restoring the full phone (which is likely to create the same problem one had before the hard reset), you could simply dump back in app data as needed. It would also help diagnose if the problem lies in a specific app's data.
High level overview of issues...
I have the Ring Doorbell app. I get notifications after "live". Could be 5 minutes, could be 1 hour... or possibly not at all. I have the app setup on my wife's iPhone and she gets them immediately. If I restart the phone, I will get notified right away (it's like it runs the app again and then I get the notification). Keep in mind, this is AFTER i disabled the battery optimization feature for the Ring app.
I also notice it occasionally with texting. I won't have any text notification in the notification panel, nor will my messaging icon have a little red circle indicating a message is there. But if I open the app, a specification conversation will have a red circle indicating a new text is unread.
All of this is leading me to believe the Samsung UI itself is not updating and therefore notifications that actually have arrived (from whatever app), are not displaying because of the UI and not because of their own delay.
Because of this concern I have turned off battery optimization for "System UI", "Themes", and "TouchWiz Home". I have not seen any change however.
[Solved]
I was able to determine by various other threads around the web (thought for sure I'd find it here, but I didn't) that the culprit might be the Google app. Supposedly it was fixed in some prior release, but it's not on my Galaxy S8+ w/ AT&T.
Once I disabled the Google app all the odd issues with notifications and clock interfaces and app icons not updating went away. The downside to disabling it is that I lose the Google Assistant functionality which stinks but otherwise there is no impact to using the phone. I re-enabled it at a later date and it worked fine for a few days and then started acting up again. Once I disabled it, the problems all disappeared. Clearly Google app is to blame.
