What is your favorite custom ROM for R5N Whyred? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi guys, many users (me too!) have tried many ROMs but it’s very difficult to determine which custom ROM (AOSP Pie 9.0 or MIUI) is the better: ''better'' to me, means the ''more balanced'' in terms of:
1) battery backup
2) stability (a bug-free experience, possibly, but we all know there are always minor bugs even on stock ROMs)
3) performance
4) customization, features (but someone prefer Android stock with no customization)
It usually goes to personal taste, someone prefer MIUI ROMs, someone prefer AOSP Pie 9.0 custom ROMs.
Last week i have tried Havoc 2.0, Havoc 2.0 modded, Arrow OS, Revolution MIUI and Revolution AOSP, PE Extended, Pixel Experience, some are more concerned about stability, other about customization other about performance but... which is the MORE BALANCED that can provide a very smooth experience with some customizations and a good battery backup? Let’s talk and try to do a survey! :fingers-crossed:.
P.S. I don’t consider Oreo 8.1 custom ROMs cause they don’t get updated no more by devs/modders and majority of users prefer Pie 9.0 custom ROMs so this thread is related to AOSP Pie-based ROMs
P.P.S. sorry if my English is bad (I do not use google translator)

For me, I've just tried pixel experience rom, and i am satisfied with it, though I've read that Arrow OS is far better, but still did not try it

battery life is about 1 hour SOT.

You should've posted this in the General section of the thread not in the rom development thread.

I am sorry bro (i am new to this forum).

Arrow OS is best by far, wait for latest upgrade fingerprint patch 25-11 (previous works flawlessly)

Aosp Extended & Liquid Remix
Enviado desde mi Redmi Note 5 mediante Tapatalk

What do you think about edge/fullscreen gestures guys? Only Havoc 2.0 has it? I love fullscreen gestures

Liquid Remix

Bootleggers is not the best at the moment, but I'd consider it the one that has the best basis. Just that some relevant features are missing.
Havoc 2 mod is good for those who want all the Google Junk. Does not support microG.
Syberia and Arrow are also tops IMO.

Hey can anyone suggest a 9.0 rom with build in oneplus gestures

Miui ROM is stable.

Reflashing; 6.x ROM (which) or 7.x ROM (which)?

Im currently on stock 6.x but my phone is getting pretty full and bugs out sometimes so I think its about time I do a fresh flash.
Is it possible to do a nandroid backup to a NAS server? A 64GB nandroid backup to a already full phone is kind of hard.
Next, I can either go 6.x or 7.x
7's notification style and doze battery life optimizations seems nice. Automatic system updates using another partition also seem good but I imagine that can only be used on Pixel.
6.x I imagine though is more stable.
So which ROM?
I personally like Android nougat more than M. Also, i find it stable enough for daily driver. I have been switching between various Nougat ROMs to find out which i like more. I am finally settled with Cm 14.1 nightlies for now.
RESURRECTION REMIX [5.8.0]

Resucrrection is way to bloated/heavy. Im sure our phone can take it but.
Looking for a Marshy? Sultans is your best bet. Simple. Stable. Clean. Reliable.
I tested almost all nougat roms. I'm stuck with legend right now, for me seems the most balanced and without serious bugs.
What about jgcaap's rom? Isn't it any good?
Official Nightly vs Jcaap vs Resurrection Remix, which is the best?
Thank you for threads like this - you can't ask in a particular ROM's thread about other ROMs... I tried the "unofficial" (CAF) 7.1.1 Ressurection Remix and I've had problems with the screen going black, doesn't mean anyone else will. So, I'm also looking for which 7.1.1 ROM to try next and want other's opinions because I just don't have time to try ALL of them myself, full wipe, install all the apps and data again, setup everything... For a day or two then on to the next over and over, but I do try to try at least a few.
The ONLY reason why I don't want 7.1.1 for certain right now is no Xposed for it yet. But, perhaps I can live without Xposed for a while as long as I have: root, adblock, privacy guard, profiles...
I'm thinking to try the "Official" 7.1.1 Resurrection Remix next? Opinions?
I recommend jgcaap's CM14.1. It's been very fast and stable with good battery life for me. He's also busy implementing Sultan's camera blobs, so camera quality is also going to be nice. Try it out for yourself, you won't regret it!
Which nougat ROM has the best battery life and the smartbar/fling navbar features?
I'm not giving up Xposed without that navbar LOL
Oh, didn't remember that Xposed isn't avalaible for 7.x yet.
Forget it. 6.x based ROMs then.

I'm having issues finding the ROM that works best for me too. I've had to resort to cm ROMs because I can't find an aosp based MM ROM that has the latest security patches. There's so few of them too . I'm currently on jgcaaps cm13 running lightning caf v50 color. Its pretty stable, but I can't for the life of me figure out why the darn thing bootloops immediately after setting selinux to enforcing. I've always set it to enforcing for security reasons in the past, and had no issues. Jgcaaps cm13 I think has the best camera hal of all the ROMs because its using color os. Not caf, sultan, or cyanogenmod (I don't even know how people consider cm hal usable).
For 7.1.1 I've tried some of the ROMs but they're missing way too many features IMO. The camera hal is one (most are using cm or caf, meh) the only 7.1.1 ROM I know of that possibly has color os hal is jgcaaps cm14. Another thing is xposed. I don't like to give google full permission over my entire system to record and do as they please, therefore I use microg. The only thing is to get micro g working, you need to have a ROM that either supports fake signatures in the developer options (ROM maintainer has to implement this, its not too hard) or an xposed module to force fake signatures. I haven't come across a single ROM here that has micro g support so I'm forced to use xposed. On top of that I use the xprivacy xposed module which is miles better at protecting your privacy than privacy guard or appops.
So yeah personally I think jgcaaps cm13 ROM is the best we have right now for MM roms. All the other MM ROMs haven't been updated with security patches in quite a while from my experience. If you don't use micro g or xposed then I would recommend jgcaaps cm14 for the color os hal, but I havent checked out his ROM in a while. I wish there was still some development on MM for our oneplus one because it seems I'm stuck between choosing discontinued MM ROMs for features + stability or actively maintained ROM with bugs + less features. I've been working on finding out how to merge security patches in to discontinued ROMs because of this. But I don't have much time in my life right now sadly.

danieldmm's TugaPower ROM has microG support out of the box and there's no need to install it as a system app. HAL is still CM but it is updated very frequently (I think it supports delta OTA updates) and has latest security patches too. Had absolutely no bugs for me when I used it last time :good:

Most stable Oreo 8.1 ROM for osprey?

I've been testing some Oreo ROMs and most are not that stable and reboots randomly... So it would be great if anyone know any stable 8.1 daily driver for osprey.

Presently there is no daily driver oreo rom available for osprey..
Every Oreo Rom has some positive & negative points now..
Better to stick with any Nougat Rom for now if you wanted to use as daily driver...

My choice would be Alberto97's AOSP 8.1 . It's what I use for a daily when I'm not testing.

The thing is with that ROM is that Permissive mode is buggy or not working which is a problem as I use audio mods that requires that mode. Currently I am running Pixel Experience 8.1 and noticed battery drain and lag in the lock screen and home screen, for example when dragging the app drawer (Moto g 2015 xt1540 8GB). I was thinking about switching to the Go edition but if you have any other suggestions I would be happy to test it out as soon as I got my internet connection back.

Yes, you quickly run out of ROM suggestions and all of these very early ROMs have their shortcomings. I understood that permissive worked on this one - I know it does not on the 64 bit version yet. I guess I don't use it so don't notice. Audio I get from my sound bar in front of my TV - LOL - my phone even pairs with it!! - more LOL(LG something). I have always gotten great sound from the G3 simply by pairing my ancient MotoRokr S9-HD - fantastic sound!!! But, yes, you really have to try them all one by one and see what limitations you are willing to put up with.
But again, they are VERY early, yet. I suspect we'll have much more in another month or 2. Amazing when you think of this little G3 being 2 years old and getting all this!!!!!!! And I bet in another year we'll be playing with Pez! Amazing what Devs can do with google sources!!!
Same Here Tried many ROMS including lineage os 15.1 Alberto 97 AOSP and AOSP Extended 5.1 the only one which sucessfully booted was lineage os 15.1 .The rest bricked and boot-looped my phone so I went back to lineage 14.1 did anyone have similar experiences ?. I Then Sucessfully Flashed Lineage 15.1 and now everything is perfect it feels so good to have Stock Android 8.1.
Right now probably Aosp extended 5.2 it's a android 8.1 based rom and is very stable the only issue I've had is finding the correct gapps as they are not officially available.

Choosing the right rom

Hey guys, i hope it's okay to write the question here.
So basically in a couple of days my 360h period ends and i can finally unlock the bootloader and root the phone.
My problem is, its been a while since i used something else as lineageos, and to make it even harder the note 6 pro has this notch (which seems to be a problem for some roms?)
So my question is quiet simple... which rom should i use for best performance and no notch issues?
should i stay with a MIUI rom and try to debloat the stuff like the "whatsapp cleaner"? (i never used Whatsapp for example), just install lineage os (and hope there is no notch issue) or should i go for a project treble rom, where my biggest issue is: what exactly is the huge difference between the usual roms and a project treble rom?
Each rom (official or not) has pros and cons, and each user has individual taste so....
I tried official and beta from MIUI, official and beta from xiaomi.eu, lineageOS 15, Pixel Experience, Havoc OS v2.1 and SuperiorOS
For now I'm using Bootleggers. I like it, but maybe you won't....

Can u plz suggest me best ROM for battery back up for my note 6 pro(tulip) thanks in advance
I tried AEX, crDroid and RR.
AEX is by far the worst. Display doesn't look good and device is slow.
RR has some issues, specially with the notch, battery and performance. Apps freeze a lot.
crDroid is the best. Great performance, great battery life and good notch compatibility.

according to me eu roms for note 6 pro have the best battery backup, they dont come with all the useless gapps like google play book etc so i suggest give eu roms a try. moreover remember customization and battery backup are inversely proportional.

is CrDroid still the best custom rom for n6p? How about SOT, overall performance,... on CrDroid and other roms? Is it worth to switch from stock miui 10 to any of these custom roms? On miui i've 1-2 days of usage at 6-7h SOT....
At the moment, there are a couple choices in terms of roms. At this point there is not really a "perfect" or amazing rom available for this device just yet. I have been testing the "official" and "unofficial" roms and they are decent but they have a long way to go until I would consider using them on a day to day basis. A lot of them have bugs which is a given, considering how relatively new this device is. It would be great to see official support for roms such as Paranoid Android, Lineage OS and Resurrection Remix. But this will take time like everything. If we look at the recovery side of things, we are still trying to get an official recovery which will be essential. From what I have seen TWRP by ATG Droid is probably the 'closest' recovery we have to something the same stability and features seen from an "official" recovery. Take what I have said with a grain of salt, pretty much all of this is opinionated if you did not get the memo.

What the best ROM actually

Friends, I'm in doubt on which ROM to install .... after a lot of research, I was between Pixel Experience Plus, Havoc 3.4, crDroid 6.5 and LineageOS 17.1. I want stability for daily use and light games, the most demanding is Darkness Rises. If you have any suggestions other than the ROMS I have listed, please suggest it. Sorry if I messed up because I'm using a translator. :cyclops:
P.S.: My Note 6 is 3gb RAM version.

Yes MIUI actually has way more useful features than these "pixel ROMs". Also some has really bad battery life compared to stock.
My note 6 has bugs in ever ROM I have flashed.... Cr Droid, Pixel Plus, Havoc, Lineage.... currently with MIUI 12 20.5.7 who slows chrome, instagram, whatsapp and when I use Uber, the screen blinks and I cant do anything until the driver accepts the race. Ever ROM I wipe Dalvik, data, system, internal... i tried Mystic Kernel but problems continues. I do not wipe sd card, who is formated to internal storage. What I doing wrong?
Take latest lineage. Is fast as hell :fingers-crossed:

50/50, there is no such thing as a "best ROM" by any kind of dynamic. The best ROM is the one that suits your preferences and purposes, you just need to test drive different ROMs until you find one that satisfies you.

I don't know. The ROM thread where you find the ROM should have a list of the features included in the ROM.
ROM suggestions are pretty much a waste of time and a waste of a question. You need to do as suggested and try different ROMs for yourself, only then will you find a ROM that satisfies you.

Hi, could you be more detailed on your experience with A13? Which is your device? I have a Poco X3 on Miui 13 A12 and want to flash a rom but I'm trying to decide between Crdroid A12 or Evolution X A13 (though I know the last one has just dropped days ago, but if its better, I'll go with that one)

Hi, my device is Redmi Note 11, If you want to customize a lot of things about the status bar or battery display then I would recommend crDroid. It has a longer battery life than EvolutionX which while having performance can be equal to crDroid but very draining of battery (perhaps EvolutionX animation is made high up to 90hz instead of 60hz, although crDroid also has it up to 60-90hz but I only set it to 60hz to save more battery). I also don't understand why EvolutionX is draining more battery than crDroid even though I've tried it all out. But the only point is that the performance of the 2 ROMs is equivalent. However, you should also try these 2 ROMs to see if the performance is suitable for your device or not. The important thing is that the ROM fits your phone, not its popularity. Thanks.
