has development died? - G Tablet General

So I was wondering if development has officially died for the G-Tab. With Android 9 now being out and they have made a version for running on lighter hardware, I was wondering if any of the old devs might take the torch back up?
I have 2 old G-Tabs that I was wanting to give to kids, but most of the old ROMs are so old now, they don't support much.

I think it's dead. A pity.

The future of my samsung galaxy s (is it bright?)

Hi I have just brought a Samsung galaxy s which I really like but I have a 14 day return period and I am having some doubts.
Gingerbread has recently been announced and I am thinking that it is unlikely that the galaxy s will get an update what do you guys think?
When I had WM (touch pro 2) I could upgrade roms whenever a new device came out, I'm guessing this is more likely to happen with android on a htc device?
I suppose my question would be this, is there any devices which are being released within about a month which will be as good as my galaxy s but likely to last with good updates etc.
Sorry about my vauge questions I just dont wanna spend all this money on a phone to find support gets pulled at the first moment.
I don't think you should worry.
I haven't heard of any phones that will be confirmed to have 3.0 (Gingerbread) other then the obvious nexus one.
You will be able to download any custom rom that is written for Gingerbread. You don't really need the official update, do you? I know it is nice, but it shouldn't affect your decision of a phone.
Plus, from what I hear, the Galaxy S is pretty sweet.
samsung chairman has directed the mobile phone division to focus on the galaxy series so I wouldn't worry so much.

Honestly I don't think Gingerbread is aimed at phones at all. I think it's for netbooks and pads really.
Ok thanks guys, that's what I wanted to hear. I'll be keeping the SGS then

[Q] developer community support for G2x

I had a Nexus One from launch till 4 months ago and the developer support made me fall in love with Android.
I decided to test out WP7 with the hopes that it would develop into something great; however, I am immensely unsatisfied with the rate of development on this platform.
I would like to come back to Android and this phone is very appealing to my needs.
My question: Will the developer community heavily support this phone like they did with the Nexus One?
My 2 favorite things on Android were Cyanogenmod and Kang-o-rama. I would be incredibly happy if these items were available on this phone.
I'm sure this phone will have PLENTY of dev support. I know that cyanogen himself and a few others from teamdouche are getting the g2x also

Vanilla dual core means support.

This device will recieve a lot of support because it doesn't have a locked bootloader like the Sensation(not 100% on this yet till the time comes) which is coming out later this year. Plus it's a dual core phone...
Yea it seems lots of devs already said the G2x was their next phone. We already have root, but they are still working on getting the recovery working. Not that I have any lack of faith either, cause the phone just has a different partition table compared to the O2x (which they didn't expect).
I would say that once we get the recovery, roms will start pouring in.
For me Dev support is the deciding factor between the g2x , sgs2, and sensation.
From how it sounds, the g2x seems to have the lead in Dev interest. Are there any rumors of a new nexus which could steal the Dev spotlight?

It seems Samsung has learned the error of their ways with the whole Froyo debacle, they seem to be keeping their promish in reguards to the time frame for updates and such in the future, so the sgs2 might also be a good choice....
Samsung has burned it's bridge with me, I don't intend to go back in the near future unless the jump through a couple hoops...

I for one am coming to the g2x from my Nexus One for a combination of features (dual core, build quality, etc.) + developer support.
I've been following quite a few threads, etc to try to gauge developer support & it seems like the g2x will have *plenty* of it. I'd probably still be on the fence a bit if it wasn't for this.
As mentioned, I believe Cyanogen is getting a g2x & development has already begun on CM7. Paul Obrien & dj (kang-o-rama) both have Optimus 2X's so we'll hopefully be able to use/leverage their great work for the g2x.
If you had the G1 back in the day (like it was sooo long ago) , I think this is going to take us back close to those days. There will be a lot of support.
Just the fact that it will get CM7 means there well be lots of spin-offs and themes. Then there will be the TW team, Eugene and Barrak, and others and of course P. O'brien and the devs working on the O2.
Definitely if you're a dev on tmo you're gonna get this phone.

For me, it was the Tegra 2 with Nvidia backing. Samsung and HTC make phones, not games. I can see Nvidia pushing lots of devs over to optimizing games for the chipset.
And I don't know about the Super Amoled Plus but that weird blue hue has put me off of the later screens.
Plus Tegra 2 is noticeably faster then the new Orion in the SGS2 in 3D games.
While the Sensation is a pretty phone, I didn't see anything that peaked my interest.

[Q] Is Android possible on the Palm Pre 2 / HP Pre 3?

I was just wondering whether anything was happening regarding Android on the Palm Pre mobile phones?
There are plenty of people asking, but has anyone started the project? It's already coming to the TouchPad, so will anyone be making Android for it?
Thanks and sorry if this is in the wrong place.
it is 100% completely and utterly possible.
It's a relatively small task to undertake, but nobody has a pre 3 unfortunately. They sold out before a price cut in the hope that people would get refunds, and they did.
I'm buying an HP Pre 3 as we speak, and I'll be trying to learn how to port and develop ASAP, but it will be a huge undertaking for me, as I'm only 16 and I'm busy with A-Levels and **** like that associated with school. Don't count on anything from me though, I might not be even able to get my head round all this computer speak... (I bet my brother '£30 + a slap' that I'd become a recognized developer one day, so I really want to do it, I just don't know if I have the time.)
I'm not very literate when it comes to android, but I know how it works (I run an old HTC Hero GSM and have seen and helped with about 12098201 billion ports) so I could get it done. Just be patient. I really hope someone beats me to the punch though, cos if it's left to me I couldn't deal with the pressure...
Please don't thank any of my posts by the way, I don't want to be that guy who talks alot and gets nothing done, but still gets credit for stuff.
ehh ignore my ramblings if you want, just know that, one way or another, there will be a port of android to the Pre 3 some day.
Great news !
I could do some tests for you if you need it since I own a Pre 3.
Actually, the Pre 3 hardware is really good but I miss the Android Market and its apps...
the pre 2 has the came processor as the droid x so wouldnt that make an android port easier?

can we get a legitamate resonce for this please...ICS will be out soon and i want to see how it is.
This would be a dream to me.
any takers? i dont wanna have to get a new phone already after buying this pre 2 -___-
Yesterday I backed up everything on both my Touchpad and my Pre3 (Veer I put on a separate palm account and Isync'd everything via google). Today I put android a3 on my Touchpad (as a hedge against full blown demise of webOS ...I have deplored the failure of the backup server of late as a possible sign of that sorry end). Now, at least, I know it will have a life in a webOSless world. I would love to see it go on my Pre3 as well to be somewhat secure (Pre3 cost me more than Touchpad). I note with interest the openings that "seem" to be for future microSD and/or SIM and will watch the secondary market offering these items and others (i.e. replacement batteries, parts) for DIY if the thing gets a new lease on life.

NO ROMS

Thanks to the devs that have supported ROMS so have something to flash ( i dont have much money to give so i made sure and thanked every dev i know as my appreciation) But coming from HTC incredible the selection is few. Everyweek it seemed like there was a ROM coming out on that side of the forums. Over here not so much. Maybe Once a month. Wish we could see new features like GS II, just like the incredible got to taste the all the updated senses roms...sorry for my RANT I just want TOUCH WIZ 4.0 i mean i bought my phone like 3 mothns ago and its outdated...
Can't believe I paid 300 for this junk lol

Many more users and developers with the Incredible. There does however seem to be a slight decline in development altogether in my perception due to the widening variety of Android phones. As the user base gets spread out, so does the development. Be nice if there was one phone from each manufacture every 6 months or longer so a phone could be their flagship for more than a month or two.
i just want CM7.. Humble 4.22 is holding me over for now.. Thanks Danalo.
Cm7 or MIUI would be nice to have but im not holding my breath on seeing pure AOSP on this phone.

Could this resurrect my all-time favorite device?

Interesting. It would be nice to see some current development happening for this device, but I think that at this point it would be asking a lot out of a 8 year old device I'm afraid. Still, this is Verizon's 1st LTE smartphone so there might be one or two Devs with enough love in their hearts left for the old Mecha to make something happen. You never know!
