[GUIDE] How to get OEM Unlock without waiting (OREO) - Samsung Galaxy S8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi there, since I am frequent flasher and angry about the changes to the bootloader, I made a new guide how to instantly unlock OEM without waiting.
I update my device frequently every month with stock rom and root it afterwards.
Therefore it's annoying but thanks to samsung it is what it is.
Fast drop as always:
Set up your device until you're on the home screen.
Enable Dev Settings
Disable Automatic Updates
Disable Keep mobile data on
Go to date and set it back 7 days ago.
Go to update, disable automatic updates and check for new updates.
Restart your device into stock recovery and clear cache.
Restart back to system and set the date again 7 days back.
Restart your device once again.
Restore automatic time (which will set up the actual date) and restart once again.
Go to dev options and check if OEM unlock is enabled.
Sometimes it's not working in the first try, but I need other people to test it.
The last few times it worked for me that way straight.

man
come on man if it doesnt work i well have wiped the phone for no reason. i am looking for a way too :/ we need people who do it like everyday..

Didn't work
I tried three times. Failed to restore OEM Unlocking.

me too, was trying over 3 times still hidden until I enable mobile data, toggle on/off "software automatic update" repeatedly.
So in my case, try to add below step..
- enable mobile data.
- toggle on/off software automatic update repeatedly.
- Check again on Developer mode.
tested on S8 G950FD with Latest Stock rom at current time.

Clock tampering worked for me
It worked for me , but it wasn't instant....i did clear the cache, but i also got impatient and the set the clock 10 days foward...also shut phone off and charged it after settincg clock back the first time it worked.
I did do it multiple times as i soft bricked my device because of the rrm crap and had to flash stock firmware...
Supposedly there is a stockfirmware that skips this oem crap...i believe its Australia version....
But the og method does work just be patient

Maybe a stupid question but which steps exactly need to be repeated?
First step I understand as flashing stock firmware and setting up phone without setting WiFi or mobile data (which are required to check updates).
I'm repeating steps from 'Go to date and set it back 7 days ago' one. Actually, setting date back 7 days for the 2nd time means I need to go back 14 days back in total? Or it's the case when date is being reverted automatically?
Thanks in advance, I'm fighting this issue since few weeks and can't get it working :/
E: Does "restart you device again" mean normal restart or recovery + clear cache?
E2: Not sure at which point it worked but even without OEM Unlock option (I already unlocked it long time ago) I was able to flash TWRP Thanks mate!

Bro i cannot believe it, lol it worked i followed exact step from this post. oem unlock was still missing so what i did was turned off the developer mode wait 2-3 sec. to it disappear then go to software info tap 7 times on build number then back to developer mode to see if its there so then mine showed up lol... btw my model number is sm-g955F is on security patch December 1 2018

works with PIE as well
this worked for my G955f with PIE (security patch lvl feb. 1st, 2019) as well - thanks a lot!
--> the device needs to be connected to the internet though. <--

Just confirming this still works
Made an account just to express my gratitude and joy, as after following the steps and with a little toying around, The OEM Unlock appeared!
Do not get discouraged, keep trying and toying with your time/update settings!
I wish anyone who is embarking on this journey the best of luck!

Just a heads-up to those who just want to flash official Samsung firmware via Odin - you don't need to OEM-unlock to flash official firmware with Odin - I just did exactly that on a newly factory-reset S8 with the option not showing and Download Mode saying "OEM Lock: On" - it installed just fine.

Please help me to get to JH7

Hi Gurus,
While everybody is trying 2.2, I am still stuck on FJ6 (or incomplete JH7).
Here's the history:
1. Got the phone on day 1 of release.. loved it and still love it. No GPS issues - first lock took 20 secs and subsequent locks took 6 seconds at most.
2. Rooted and unlocked the phone, deleted all AT&T crapware. Running Launcher Pro, Tiatinum backup etc.
3. Installed Lagfix - was happy with a high quadrant score
4. Saw that the JH7 OTA is out
5. Read up on the forums here and unlagged lagfix.
6. Initiated the OTA update, went all the way thru, and got the message "update failed - No updated available" after restart. GPS is messed up.
7. Settings --> About Phone shows this
- Firmware version: 2.1-update1
- Baseband Version: I897UCJH7
- Kernel Version: 2.6.29 [email protected] #2
- Build Number: ECLAIR
8. Went to plan B - Kies Mini, was able to connect but stuck at "Unregistered screen".
9. Got frustrated and called Samsung.
- They said that the OTA upgrade worked "half way thru". They were expecting something after the "ECLAIR" in build number and I should not see the "PC Internet" as an option under USB Settings.
So Samsung said that they will have to reflash the phone to JH7 and have asked me to send the phone in.
1. I will be without a phone for 4-5 days which sucks.
2. They may (an will?) see my shenanigans (root etc) on the phone even after a hard reset ??
What are the implications? Is there any way around this? Can I do something (or follow some instruction by myself) to fix this? I am ok going back to stock AT&T firmware - to need to mess around with removing crapware etc. I would just like to keep the phone "unlocked" (I travel overseas quite a bit).
I have read thru most of the form postings.. which confused me more. At this point of time, I have a "brain freeze" and would appreciated a "just do this and then this" type of instruction.
Ironically, ever since switching from Windows Mobile to android, I have been a big proponent of this phone and operating system. Now I am beginning to see the downside of being on the leading/bleeding edge..
Please help..
Nick
You can always use ODIN and flash it that way...

You hacked your phone, now it won't update and you think it is because android is on the bleeding edge.
If you had reverted to stock first (odin one click) you may have had success. Maybe it would kill your unlock -some it does, some it doesn't.
Some phones had trouble updating even from stock - but unless you put it back - you will have no baseline. You need to make it stock before you send it anyway - or they may just return it because you did root and modify it.
Use Odin to do a master clear, flash back to JH6 with Odin, then do the JH7 update via your phone or with Kies, then you can do the one-click root.
Or just skip JH7 and bump up to JI6.
Thanks for the link...
Some more questions:
1. Will this clear my unlock? I forgot to write down my unlock code. Is there a way to get it out again before the flash?
2. Will this completely eliminate all traces of modifications?
3. What about my apps? I have a appbrain account, will I use that to revert? What about paid apps?
Thanks in advance..

Thank you all for your help. I was able to upgrade to JH7.
1. Did the JF6 Odin 1-click update (did NOT do a Master Clear)
2. Once back to baseline, I uses Keis Mini to upgrade to JH7 - worked flawlessly
3. Rooted using Lagfix (did not install lagfix though)
4. Installed appbrain app - I see all the apps that I need to re-install. I installed some, but will wait to get home and do the "Once Button" install over wifi
5. Titanium Backup was not able to Restore Apps (no 3rd part app installation allowed). Will just wait for appbrain to do its thing and restore app data only from Titanium backup (hopefully this option exists).
6. Restored all screen from Launcher Pro backup - widgets are messed up, but not a big deal
This definitely worked out, especially comparing to the alternative of sending in the phone and what not..
As a bonus, GPS performance is fantastic - caught 7 satellites in 5 seconds 30' accuracy with my phone near my office window (did not even have to go outside). Will test more with maps on my way home..
Falling in love with Android all over again
Once again, a BIG thanks to those who helped.
I will wait for a few days before taking on 2.2 .. gulp..

Just wanted to report back, GPS is awesome now. Takes max 10 seconds (first time) when fired from Google Maps. Subsequent locks are taking no more than 6 seconds.
Also, did not find a way to just restore app data from Titanium Backup. So had to recreate some stuff .. no biggie. Anybody know of an alternative backup app that will actually let me restore apps and stuff - which is the point of a backup app!!

Looking for a custom rom without the extra step >>> swipe before pattern

hi Guys,
i am still on CM11 because for me the Pattern lockscreen is perfect
some poeple know this issue
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=79889
The new lock screen makes it even slower to unlock your phone, and there's no option to remove the extra step.
The first screen now makes you swipe up to go to the normal unlock screen (or other directions for the phone or camera). The majority of the time, I don't need either the phone or camera, so the extra step is slowing down the most common action I need to do every single time I want to use the phone.
This needs an option setting so it can be disabled.

So i have a question:
Is there any Custom Rom where i can disable this annoying option ? I like tu upgrade to CM12 but i am not sure if i have to swipe before unlock my phone.
Thanks
It can be disabled and show directly the pattern unlock in cm12.1.
Nexus 5, CM12.1 CAF
ok thank you. in the past i tried a very early version of cm 12 , then i switched back because of this extra step.
so last thing i need to know, i hope for your answer, is there any option for the "silent mode" like in cm11 / kitkat or do i have to wait till cm13 for a working silent mode ?

There's an equivalent to Silent Mode, it's called 'Priority Mode'. Some ROM have Silent Mode built in too (such as Cataclysm LP).
thanks for answering.
i guess CATACLYSM will be the better choice, it is already on Marshmallow - i will try it first

Desperately need help w/issue After 8.0 Update...

S8+ /S8 Global Unlocked Variants, (ie: G955FD, etc) Desperately need help w/issue After 8.0 Update...
Hi, I have a G955FD & have family members with this same model, as well as the Global unlocked regular S8-dual sim. We all have the same issue after the Samsung 8.0.0 update. The phone is no longer reliable. Randomly, these devices will not have any ring on incoming calls. If they don't leave a VM, then you have no indication of a missed phone call. In addition, random periods where text messages will also just not come thru. Difference on the texts is, when you reboot, they all populate in the message app and notifications. But the incoming calls are not known and lost forever w/o a VM left for you by caller.
I have been in contact with Samsung, although they indicate right off that I have no warranty because I didn't buy a carrier device from an authorized vendor for my local use, they were open & helpful to reveal that they are aware of '8.0 ringer issues' on the unlocked global devices. BTW, this must be a huge number of people across the world with this problem, but like my friends/family, originally think they have signal/carrier issues etc. Samsung says that it should be addressed in a patch or update..... but, WHEN? I have had a messed up phone for over 3months and counting.
The only thing that can be done to attempt having the phone work 'more often' is to do a restart every hour all day long and hope that your phone will ring when someone is calling.
I, personally, being the family tech guy, am the one working on the issue so I'm here to ask for help/input.
Been dealing with this issue for over 3 months now, here's some of what I have done and what I'd like help with please...
I have attempted 5x to install a custom ROM from XDA to alleviate this issue completely, but as of now, still unsuccessful. I've been rooting/hacking my android devices since my 1st but somehow can't get the process to work thru. At this point, using Odin, I have no issue to get my phone running TWRP and rooted. Somehow, after that point something isn't going right and my phone has to be re-odin flashed with OEM ROM and then wait 1 week for OEM unlock to re-appear to try again. So, If I could complete this process next time the OEM-unlock is back up, my problem would be over.
Now, since I am having issue with completing a custom ROM install... I thought, why not flash a previous OEM ROM (7.0 NOUGAT) and again, my problem should be over and I could wait until a 9.0 update to see how that goes. So far, any 7.0 stock ROMS I have been able to find/download, have 'failed' install in Odin. (I have standard Odin, patched and Prince Comsey) so I always try them all before I say it's a true fail.
Can anyone help me to understand why, with all the root/roms Ive done, cannot get custom ROM to complete install. I was trying for the CarHD or Batman. after rom flash, something goes wrong and the phone either goes bootloop or failed verify. (BTW, couple X I did flash the no-verify to alleviate that issue but still get bootloop or no new rom boot up)
The other thing I'd love to be able to do right now that 'should' be a piece of cake, (but hasn't been) until I figure out the custom rom install issue, is to ask for anyone that can post a link to a valid ODIN-flashable Stock 7.0 NOUGAT ROM for my S8+ G955F/FD. That would solve everything for now and I'd just disable updates for the interim. As previously mentioned, the couple I have found would only FAIL on Odin flash attempts. Seeing that this is a global, unlocked device, is it possible to flash a stock rom or flash a diff CSC that can get me North America Tmobile setup (my USA provider) I noticed that the global phone has no options to disable LTE or turn wifi calling on/off etc.
I apologize if I have jumped around in my post, not provided enough details or not written very eloquently, but I am happy to provide any other needed info to move forward if any of you have ideas here. I'm just at the end of my rope with this right now.
Any help, input here is much appreciated! TIA! mark~
Trying to be helpful here.
For some folks flashing with Odin the first run through errors/fails. That issue was a PITA. I found a post somewhere which said when you hook up the phone to flash with Odin, the first attempt will fail, but to leave the phone connected, go back into download mode, and flash again. Do not unplug the phone when you do this.
For some reason there's a kink in Odin with some folks.
That info, wish I could recall who by - they deserve the recognition, anyway it solved all my Odin errors.

hey jeff, thanks for checking in when the OEM unlock button returns again tomorrow, I'll keep this in mind on my next attempt. i did encounter that fail several times with some OEM firmware flashes (trying to go back to 7.0) and this should resolve that problem. overall though, my real issue seems to be when attempting a root/custom rom instead of a stock replacement... and 'after' i get TWRP completed. I'm doing something wrong with a button hold sequence or something else. maybe need flash 'do not verify' right off too. I'm gonna go extra slow/careful following each step from a great, detailed post for TWRP/ROOT/ROM procedure that i found here over weekend written by 'jesec' what i hate the most is, i only have 1 shot doing this with the oem unlock button, if messed up, have to re-flash a stock rom and wait another 7 days to try this all again.
i still cannot believe its been about 13wks and samsung says they are aware, yet still has not patched this problem. i love my samsungs but im so fed up, i almost ordered a oneplus 6 this weekend just because of this random no ring issue.
thanks much!

[Sharing]How to get the Official 3.5.386 on unlocked bootloader phone

This may not work on every Zuk Edge with unlock bootloader but it certainly works on mine.
1) Use QFIL and flash Zui 2.3.079 ENG/CN
2) Once you have connected to WIFI. Go to settings>About Android. Then go back to homescreen. DO NOT CHECK FOR SYSTEM UPDATE.
3) When you are at homescreen it will show there's update available. 2.5.2xx Click download update. It will start Downloading. Once finish the download. Click into the notifcation it will show success download and ask for a reboot.
4) After reboot it will show update successful. Leave the phone on Wifi for at least 5-10 Minutes and see whether it has the notification for update or not.
5) If not, reboot your phone and wait for the update notification again.
6) Repeat the process until the latest update.
I have gone from 2.3.079>2.5.203>2.5.550>3.1.201>3.5.386 doing this way.
I do not own any of the files or any damage that might harm doing so. I am merely sharing what I discovered that was working for me.
Credits to the uploader and developer for the stock 2.3.079 ROM.

Update: also works to get to update to latest 4.0.282

differents problems with my j7...

Good morning, I've been on the phone for two days now that's crazy ... and everything is clear to touch where I should not surely hehe
I comment a little to see if you can throw me a handle, either to put the phone right or neck.
I had a rom on my cell phone for maybe 4 or 5 months and the only thing that a couple of weeks or so ago every time I went in the car or with the bike when using bluetooth calls failed, so I started looking in internet and I saw that many rom failed in that, because I decided to put another rom. All good, but the same mistake followed and the one that did not vibrate added up. Well now I have been trying to try different but yesterday there is no way, you can see that I made a small brick. After talking for some comments on YouTube, he told me that it could be that he has damaged binary, (I do not know what it is), they told me to download to Android 6.0
The question is yes, I tried a firmware (the only one that I could install with odin, the rest always fails) and I have now the phone that works half, because it still does not vibrate, every time I turn on I have to enter key wifi and some more things , not counting the andorid that I have haha that is outdated.
Testing with Odin to install other firmware now I get on the mobile, secure check fail bootloader. (I understand that it may be that the bootloader is blocked) but I do not know how to unblock it either, I have the developer options enabled with debugging usb and OEM.
I have also tried to install with Odin the TWRP and it comes out that if it has been installed correctly but then I try to get in and out fail and restart.
I have seen that there is a guide here for TWRP but it is for android 7.0 ... so I do not think it's good either.
After this billet ... does anyone give me a hand?
Thank you very much in advance!
PD: I add, right now I have the J710FXXU5BRC3 version but J710FXXS3AQG1 runs too. both with android 6.0
PD2: another mistake, is that when I go to flash it puts: sw rec. check fail. device 5, binary 3
