Double Tap Power Open Google Camera? - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

Hey everyone,
Does anyone know if it's possible to make the Google Camera open with double tapping power button from a screen off action? I much prefer the Google Camera at this point and it would make everything awesome if we could.
I m rooted and have Magisk if that helps.
Let me know your thoughts!
Thanks!

When you double tapped for the first time, it didn't ask you which app to open? Because it should. Maybe you chosed stock camera app as default. Go and clear stock camera app defaults. You will find it in Setting -> Apps.

Oh no, I've got it once screen is on. But I'm curious about the one when you double tap from screen off. It auto launches the OnePlus Camera.

Have u tried using quick gestures?

I'm looking for a solution also. From the lockscreen double tap power always launches the OnePlus Camera, when the screen is unlocked it actually launches the default camera. Gestures do work, but are rather cumbersome and require you to unlock the phone when drawn.

Torch Light Setting

I have found a nice Torch Light setting. If you set it 'on', when the screen is off, a long-press on the Volume-Up key starts the light. A press on the Volume-Down key turns it off, and there is a configurable time-out too.
Here's what's odd: I cannot find it in the settings anywhere, but found it though adding an 'Activity' shortcut through SSLauncher (my shell of choice). This one is named TocrhLight IIRC, in case anyone wants to install the free version and try it.
I have found these Activity settings to be a huge mine of hidden features, or at least shortcuts to deeply buried settings. In this case, I think the feature is actually hidden. Room for a dedicated app just to set this setting, I feel.
Apologies if this is obvious or posted elsewhere, but I could not find it anywhere.
Hello,
thank you very much, that was what i was missing from my note 2.
I used Activity-Launcher from Play-Store to start this Setting.
Regards
Robert

Can anyone talk me through the steps to set this up?
Download nova launcher. Long press on desktop and add shortcut. Then choose activities choose settings and from there torchlight. Thats it.
But its not working flawless. This morning i needed the flashlight but didnt work. I had to unlock my phone andnlock it again to make it work.

Hm, might be useful.
Though personally I'll stick to Flashlight HD. It has a widget which is a flashlight toggle.
If you are rooted and have xposed framework installed, you can access the hidden setting via installing Wanam Xposed from the Google store.
Just a heads up.

What I'd like to see is a super bright torch like in the CM roms but without root.
The difference is astounding.

Any experience with long term use and potential LED damage/overheating? Also does anyone know why I wouldn't have any torch setting or app? Using Verizon note 3 and would love this mod

You can download the Activity-Launcher app (as Rivendel noted) and open it. Scroll down to 'Settings'. This opens a loooooong list. Scroll waaaaay down to 'Torch Light' (there are two IIRC), and press it. The settings screen is shown. Sett the settings and 'back' to get out.

Is this working reliably for some people? For me it's not unfortunately. It usually works after I have just turned off the device, but when it's been idling for a while then I can't activate the flashlight this way. Bummer.
Torchlight
Since I upgraded to SM-N9005][NOTE3][KitKat 4.4.2][XXUENA6]_BoBCaTROM_EVO_v4.1 it does not work. Probably it is a bug and hopefully soon will be fixed. The corresponding setting appear in WanamXposed but does not work. Does anyone perhaps has a fix for it?

What do you mean by "does not work"? The setting page does no longer show up?
Since on the actual "working" of the torchlight things are already complex on 4.3 - the torchlight only works if the CPU is not in deep sleep! (this however probably explains why that setting is hidded).
I am still using that torchlight with a trick - since only the Power and Home buttons can wake the CPU from seep sleep I press on Power twice SLOW, and only after that I press and hold Volume Up - that way I still get to start the torchlight with a single hand :good:
[hidden setting] flashlight settings
I mean that thoug setting page show up, switch on, but no results. I long-press volume-up and there is no torchlight. I reached the settings in WanamXposed [hidden setting] flashlight settings but no result. I use 4.4.2 Kitkat. Probably it is no linger supported in Kitkat.

I just added a widget through widget locker, which I can interact with. Works great, power button > tap widget :good:
Using an app called Torchie, just press both 'volume buttons' together to turn on/off torch anytime. It runs as a background service and just works anytime, even when screen off (if enabled from Torchie Settings). It kinda make your phone feel like a conventional battery operated torch.

[Q] How to change lock screen camera app?

I have searched here and the web for a method to change the lock screen camera app that 4.4 uses.
I initially selected the default 4.4 camera as the lock screen camera to use, and am now regretting that decision...
Has anyone figured out a non-rooted way to change which camera app the lock screen uses?
Can you go into settings, applications, find the camera app and select the remove defaults option? In theory that should allow it to prompt you next time.
If it doesn't work, then the camera app probably has deep integration with the lock screen (usually for security).

Already checked there. "No defaults set." is displayed in the 'LAUNCH BY DEFAULT' section.

I use Widgetlocker, not stock, but had the same issue. What I had to do was go Settings>Apps>Camera and clear defaults. Next time you swipe from the side it will ask which camera app you want to use.

The method described above works. I've tried this too. Unfortunately after clearing the defaults and trying again I could only choose between the stock app and Focal. I have about 5 more camera apps (was trying out which one I liked most) but none of them showed up as an option. It seems the maker of the camera app you want must use a specific api to make the camera available for the lock screen.

Force OK Google Always ON

Does anyone know of a way to force OK Google to be always on? There are tutorials through google, but they either seem to be for non-samsung phones or outdated. I moved from iPhone to Galaxy and underestimated how much I would miss "Hey Siri". Running Superman ROM if that makes a difference.

I already checked that and there wasn't an option to turn it on @ any screen. It only seems to work when its charging. It's okay though. With Xposed, I was able to tweak it so I can long press and activate the voice search. Not quite what I wanted, but close enough for now.
Thanks for the reply though.

If you go to google voice settings and tap OK Google Detection you should have these options, only From the Google App is on by default the other are off, turn on From any Screen and you can use OK Google from any open screen, turn on Personal Results as well and you can wake the phone from a locked screen you don't have to tap anything, these should be standard options, I checked back on my old S5 and they are the same.

Now that I have Superman installed, I no longer have those options. All I have is the first one to turn it on. I've heard it runs down the battery a ton anyway.

Is there an app that will shut my screen off?

Is there an app that will shut my screen off? I used one but it forces me to use a pin even if I use the fp reader
What's so difficult about a short press on the Power Button? Or change the Settings / Display / Sleep to less than the default 5 minutes.
In Settings / Fingerprint ID / Fingerprint Management (you will need your PIN here) is Unlock Screen set to On (blue with the circle on the right)?

I actually don't like using the hardware button to close screen. On my previous phone I would double tap to close screen but setting up that action with my launcher conflicts with fingerprint reader. While I normally don't use a flip case I bought one on a lark for my Mate 9. Mine (by Qialino) will close your screen automatically when you close the flap and the fingerprint reader works fine when you open it. You can bend the flip cover back and it will support the phone in landscape although it depends on the surface as it is not really designed for that..

Nothing, but Mate 9 is first mobile what I have what this not have. I about 3years not use power button on my mobiles(G2, G4). And I not use power button to wake up. LG have double tap like standard. Not this.... May be better made widget to lock from floating circle.

I see, sorry. I've never had a phone that didn't need a press on the power button to lock. I had a look at a couple of apps since reading our post - they needed the PIN on wake, which negates the value.
I shall head to the Huawei site and suggest this (putting th ephone face down to lock) for their next update. At present, they suggest you use the "floating dock" to lock your phone without pressing the power button.
http://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/faqs/detail/index.htm?id=121864
Why does fingerprint unlock fail after I lock the screen with a third-party app?
Cause : For security reasons, the fingerprint unlock service does not allow third-party apps to access your fingerprint data.
Solution : Use the lock button in the floating dock, or press the power button to lock the screen.

You can enable the floating dock by swiping down with two fingers - it is one of the quick toggles.

Yes I wrote this. But no one click lock. ZTE Z11 have simple lock screen widget. Huawei have floating circle and double click lock screen. It's not user friendly. But at least something. I very often working from my car. It's not user friendly to lock screen by floating circle by Huawei.
Latest Chinese rom B165SP01 has a default widget to lock screen now. Just have to wait for Huawei to update for other regions if they decide to port the function over.
Huawei added it after a lot of Chinese users complained on the forums. I guess they do look on the Chinese forums and read feedbacks.

Ah yes! What a silly place to put a widget! Actually, the reason I didn't see it is that it does not appear on my page of widgets for my launcher (Total Launcher). I checked and it did work with the default launcher as well as Nova.
Is there a way to import that widget to the us version?
A single tap icon to turn off screen would be great. The floating thing is cumbersome. There is a power bar widget in the UK phone but it only turns off wifi etc. There's a reboot widget too. The bit in the middle is missing.
The external app I tried took from 3 up to 15 seconds to fully switch off : it clears the screen immediately but the screen isn't actually off, just very nearly so. In that time, nothing responds.

It is part of System UI. Using quickshortcutmaker, it shows as com.android.systemui/com.huawei.keyguard.onekeylock.OneKeyLockActivity

Quick Launching Camera from Lockscreen

I must be missing something but hell if I can figure out how to launch the camera from the lockscreen.
Used to be able to do it with a double power button click on my S8 but on my VZW Pixel 3 it brings up the code unlock first. I find that there are many times I just want to take a quick shot without having to unlock the phone.
For that matter, does Pie offer lockscreen widgets at all?
Thanks for your help.

Strange, works for me. It's possible a Device Administrator (work email, etc) is preventing it... They sometimes disable certain functions while the screen is locked.

Ah, yes, those were the days (pre-Lollipop) when my lockscreen was super useful and interactive, and so was my notification ticker in the status bar. I feel like an old man now remember how good things USED to be. lol
But to the OP, something is clearly wrong as this feature is turned on by default on Pixel devices. Try a factory reset. You can backup your phone to your computer using the adb backup and restore commands.
Did you select Camera as default app when launching with the phone unlocked? The first time it will give you the "open with" dialog. For me it was Camera and Snapchat. I selected camera and always, and now can launch camera from anywhere.

No, it'll work. You can't view pictures taken before using the camera unless you unlock
I try and get this screen
Works for me with pattern lock, don't use pin.
Just go to the camera settings then scroll down and turn on Quick launch
Enter your pin, and select one of your camera apps as "always" then it'll allow you to skip the pin when you double tap. ?

Thank you for the tip!
I hope by now the problem has been resolved, I was also looking out how to access the camera from the lock screen and it turns out (thanks to advice from friends not from anything I found from the many internet searches) that if you click the power button twice the camera pops up. You can check this by going to Settings- System - Gestures - Jump to Camera.
