Is there an app that will shut my screen off? I used one but it forces me to use a pin even if I use the fp reader
What's so difficult about a short press on the Power Button? Or change the Settings / Display / Sleep to less than the default 5 minutes.
In Settings / Fingerprint ID / Fingerprint Management (you will need your PIN here) is Unlock Screen set to On (blue with the circle on the right)?

I use 'Screen Off and Lock' app from play store...
Not sure if it will still ask for pin though...

I actually don't like using the hardware button to close screen. On my previous phone I would double tap to close screen but setting up that action with my launcher conflicts with fingerprint reader. While I normally don't use a flip case I bought one on a lark for my Mate 9. Mine (by Qialino) will close your screen automatically when you close the flap and the fingerprint reader works fine when you open it. You can bend the flip cover back and it will support the phone in landscape although it depends on the surface as it is not really designed for that..

Nothing, but Mate 9 is first mobile what I have what this not have. I about 3years not use power button on my mobiles(G2, G4). And I not use power button to wake up. LG have double tap like standard. Not this.... May be better made widget to lock from floating circle.

I see, sorry. I've never had a phone that didn't need a press on the power button to lock. I had a look at a couple of apps since reading our post - they needed the PIN on wake, which negates the value.
I shall head to the Huawei site and suggest this (putting th ephone face down to lock) for their next update. At present, they suggest you use the "floating dock" to lock your phone without pressing the power button.
http://consumer.huawei.com/en/support/faqs/detail/index.htm?id=121864
Why does fingerprint unlock fail after I lock the screen with a third-party app?
Cause : For security reasons, the fingerprint unlock service does not allow third-party apps to access your fingerprint data.
Solution : Use the lock button in the floating dock, or press the power button to lock the screen.

You can enable the floating dock by swiping down with two fingers - it is one of the quick toggles.

Yes I wrote this. But no one click lock. ZTE Z11 have simple lock screen widget. Huawei have floating circle and double click lock screen. It's not user friendly. But at least something. I very often working from my car. It's not user friendly to lock screen by floating circle by Huawei.
Latest Chinese rom B165SP01 has a default widget to lock screen now. Just have to wait for Huawei to update for other regions if they decide to port the function over.
Huawei added it after a lot of Chinese users complained on the forums. I guess they do look on the Chinese forums and read feedbacks.

Ah yes! What a silly place to put a widget! Actually, the reason I didn't see it is that it does not appear on my page of widgets for my launcher (Total Launcher). I checked and it did work with the default launcher as well as Nova.
Is there a way to import that widget to the us version?
A single tap icon to turn off screen would be great. The floating thing is cumbersome. There is a power bar widget in the UK phone but it only turns off wifi etc. There's a reboot widget too. The bit in the middle is missing.
The external app I tried took from 3 up to 15 seconds to fully switch off : it clears the screen immediately but the screen isn't actually off, just very nearly so. In that time, nothing responds.

It is part of System UI. Using quickshortcutmaker, it shows as com.android.systemui/com.huawei.keyguard.onekeylock.OneKeyLockActivity
I have attached the apk, I guess you can try to install it.

I've been using Screen Off and Lock forever to lock my phone using the swipe-up-from-home-nav-button (instead of the default Google Now).
After updating to Lolipop, I started using my Moto 360 as a trusted device and enabled a PIN lock on my phone. When I lock the phone with the power button and my Moto 360 connected, no PIN screen appears when I turn the screen back on.
However, if I lock the phone using the app Screen Off and Lock, the PIN screen always comes on when I go to turn the screen back on. This defeats the whole purpose/convenience of the trusted device bypassing the PIN. Anyone know how to fix this? Or know of an app that will work better?
It hasn't been updated since January so I imagine its just an incompatibility

I'm on stock rooted Lollipop and I'm running into a similar issue, but with face unlock instead of trusted device.
I have double-tap on Nova Launcher set to system lock using Tasker, and when I lock my phone using that, face unlock doesn't activate, and won't until I put in my PIN password and then re-lock using the power button.

I also tried locking my phone using Greenify instead of Screen Off & Lock, sam result. Perhaps there is a way to implement locking the phone that won't trigger the PIN to unlock? Or - and I hope this isn't the case - maybe there is no way to do this in 5.0?

I tried messing around with screen timeout in Tasker, but it doesn't let me set it to 0 seconds (for obvious reasons, I guess haha), since I noticed that letting my screen time out seems to work just fine for triggering face unlock. The lowest I can set it to is 7 seconds though, if I remember right, which is a bit too high for a screen off function.

Not sure this will be "fixed". All apps that are stating to lock the phone will actually do so, whether trusted devices are enabled or not. They act the same way as if you are on the lockscreen with the lock disabled by a trusted device and then press the lock symbol at the bottom, this also locks the device. This has been a problem forever, apps just work differently than the hardware power button.
As a fix you can try the following: Use another app to completely disable the lockscreen or keyguard (whatever your prefer) when a trusted device is connected instead of using the android built in feature.
If you are like me and want to use the new trusted devices feature of lollipop you can use Tasker as a workaround. Create a tasker task with the command "run shell --> input keyevent 26". This also requires root. Then you can use the app Home Button Launcher to set a shortcut to run the new task when swiping up. This is what I'm using and it works without any problem! I hope I could help.

Also, I didn't need a separate app to make a Home key shortcut, I just made a profile: Event -> UI -> Assistance Request -> add the Task with input keyevent 26.

Nothing against Screen Off and Lock as it's just doing what it's designed to do (and Lock after all) but this is a useful work around, thanks.

So no hope for people like me who don't use trusted devices/places but use trusted face? Because I think even tasker can't do that with trusted face unlock.
Also looking for a solution to this with trusted faces on lollipop.

As we can unlock our Nexus 5X with our fingerprint in a comfortable way, I think LockScreen is also great to lock the device from a (material design adapted) widget. And you can also use transparent widgets!
You can download it from Google Play (it's free!).
I've developed this app so, please, any feedback is welcome!
Best regards!

Doesn't work correctly on the 5X, once you have locked using the widget, you are then unable to unlock again with the fingerprint reader, you have to then use the keypad, that defeats the object of having a fingerprint sensor.

I'm pretty sure it does not... same issue with this.
Unless you create a widget that activate a root task to lock the screen, it will ask for the keypad.

Just tested it already too, does not work for me.
And it seems to be a known issue since 2 others thread are talking about it already
Maybe there's something you guys have done differently that make this work but I've done this :
1/ setting double tap on home screen with nova launcher to launch Greenify's Hibernate and Lock screen
2/ once device locked and screen turned off, puting my finger on the fingerprint. It does wake the phone but asks for the pin code which does not when you lock the phone with the hardware power button
And it's the same behavior with other launchers and apps that can turn off the screen

Hi there,
I tried to use screen off apps on my SS S8, but when unlocking, it requested PIN numbers instead of using the fingerprint.
The fingerprint only works if we lock screen using the physical button or after timeout.
Do you happen to know any workaround for this?
I read a thread on S7, suggesting using Nova launcher with Screen Lock widget. But, is there any setting we can change to use other apps?
Many thanks,
Nghia
That's general security setting of Android. Happens to me on my OnePlus 3 when it's locked by Greenify. Simply ditch those lock screen apps.

This one works for me:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gr.ictpro.jsalatas.screenoff

but just found this one and it works so far!

If this is still a question for anyone:
With nova launcher, you need to give it accessebility permission and choose in the nova settings to use a different lock screen method
The setting can be found in the nova settings by scrolling all the way down and choosing the last option in the advanced settings... Each option has an explanation for how it lockes the screen
I must be missing something but hell if I can figure out how to launch the camera from the lockscreen.
Used to be able to do it with a double power button click on my S8 but on my VZW Pixel 3 it brings up the code unlock first. I find that there are many times I just want to take a quick shot without having to unlock the phone.
For that matter, does Pie offer lockscreen widgets at all?

Ah, yes, those were the days (pre-Lollipop) when my lockscreen was super useful and interactive, and so was my notification ticker in the status bar. I feel like an old man now remember how good things USED to be. lol
But to the OP, something is clearly wrong as this feature is turned on by default on Pixel devices. Try a factory reset. You can backup your phone to your computer using the adb backup and restore commands.
Did you select Camera as default app when launching with the phone unlocked? The first time it will give you the "open with" dialog. For me it was Camera and Snapchat. I selected camera and always, and now can launch camera from anywhere.

I noticed this as well. OP, are you having the app selection menu popup after entering your pin?
Press the power button twice to activate the camera from the lock screen. Can't activate the camera from the touch screen
Kinda sucks though it doesn't work if u have a passcode it still needs entering to use the camera

No, it'll work. You can't view pictures taken before using the camera unless you unlock
I try and get this screen
Works for me with pattern lock, don't use pin.
Just go to the camera settings then scroll down and turn on Quick launch
Enter your pin, and select one of your camera apps as "always" then it'll allow you to skip the pin when you double tap. ?

Thank you for the tip!
I hope by now the problem has been resolved, I was also looking out how to access the camera from the lock screen and it turns out (thanks to advice from friends not from anything I found from the many internet searches) that if you click the power button twice the camera pops up. You can check this by going to Settings- System - Gestures - Jump to Camera.
Has anyone else got this bug? After locking the phone, the screen will stay active (even though the display is off) for around a second.
I've noticed the fingerprint icon flashes once after a second at the same time.
It's quite annoying if like me, you lock it and immediately shove it into your pocket within a second, as I sometimes unlock it to find I'm in an email or an app I didn't remember being in.

I have seen other people report this as well.

Yeah, but you need to be quite quick to trigger something on the screen. I tried to do it on purpose and I can replicate the issue 9 out of 10 times )).
Hoping for a fix in the next update.
This is getting worse. Screen stays active around 3 seconds after locking it. I can see there is a quick refresh of the lock screen when it's really locked. It's really annoying now as I feel like I need to wait for this until I can safely put it in my pocket.
this doesn't happen when using nova launcher's gestures (double tap => lock screen). maybe works with an 3rd party app from playstore too, or custom kernel with double tap to sleep or some magisk mod?

What lock method do you use in Nova? Accessibility, Device Admin, or root?
ouch, now you got me... I think it was accessibility. I took the one which enabled fingerprint usage after locking via nova gesture. I think it was accessibility, jep
edit: had time to look at phone now, it's accessibility

Okay. accessibility or root. I still get that delay after locking, even with Nova double tap. It's just one blink a couple seconds after locking. I notice the clock blink once. Honestly, I wouldn't have even noticed it had it not been posted here..

Yep, I uses Nova double tap to sleep/Accessibility and do not have this issue
+1 on using Nova Launcher. I cannot produce this problem if i tried.
