I've got 2 main problems with my XA - Sony Xperia XA Questions & Answers

Greetings, I own a Xperia XA (I have it for more than 2 years) and I have some serious problems that bother me. The first one is the camera. It always takes too long to take a shot and after clicking I have to wait for ~4 seconds before it is taken. If I make a small move, the photo is blurry.
Also, something's up with the microphone. When I'm recording a video and then watching to it, there's a weird sound that plays in the background. Could it be because the processor or something is next to the mic? It's really annoying.
Last problem is that my headphone jack doesn't accept my earphones (the ones that were in the package with the phone). I can't hear anything because something happened with the headphone jack.
Thanks for your time

[Q] Rear Camera "Clicking" sound?

Ive had this since last year, and prior to sending my unit in to get the back of the unit replaced (plastic tabs holding the bezel have broken over time, and it allows the bezel to be pulled away from the unit...), I never had this issue!
What issue? Well whenever I take a picture, or switch from the front camera to the rear camera there is an audible clicking sound, almost like the shutter is initializing, my problem is, that I never had this issue prior to sending it in!
I called Asus and they said (more like the guy was told) that it was "normal", however I have found VIA googling that it doesnt seem to be normal at all.
Does anyone else with a TF101 have this issue? (Majority at least, or are me and a few others needing to get this repaired?)
Thanks!
EDIT: this is NOT the shutter sound that plays through the speakers, this literally comes from the rear camera unit itself, not the speakers!
EDIT2: with 58 views and no replys, I want to know if you do or dont have the clicking sound, either way works, no need for drive-by's
The clicking nose is the rear camera turning on. I have it when powering up the TF or switching camera from front to rear.
It's very faint but it has always been there for me.

same here! always when i turn on my device.
surely i never heard that "sound" when i take a picture. only at the start up.
Yeah I have never heard it before, its not quiet at all... its really very loud for me...
Im just gonna send it in again... its that annoying! (Its ALMOST as loud as the shutter sound when its turned on :/ )
Yea i've the sound too, can hear it during start up, and when swaping between front and rear camera.

Im guessing I had it as well, the difference however is that now its loud enough to compete with the shutter sound (I normally turn it off, but fresh from repair its factory reset, so i took a picture, and turned the sound off and the clicking was almost as loud as the shutter sound)... where before I dont ever remember hearing it at all (I never put my ear to it like some people say they have to to hear it)
I could hear it through the gumdrop case I have for it!

Xperia Z3 TOP SPEAKER crackle at the maximum volume

My xperia z3 top speaker crackle at the over 80% volume
I noticed this problem on some songs (walkman) or you tube (some videos)
You go to: SETTINGS / SOUND / PHONE RINGTONE / go on the top list, and for example try second song ( AQUILA ) at the maximum volume.
Do you have the same problem on your xperia z3?
I noticed that as well but it seems to only occur on specific sounds for me. I watched a YouTube video at probably 80% volume and heard that crackling. Tried another one even on full volume (both were BF4 gameplay commentaries) and heard nothing but good sound.

I noticed that this problem is present at over 80% volume, too.
I will also check for this.
Just noticed this while listening to music on a youtube video.
Noticed that my top speaker/earpiece will rattle sometimes while on a call, or when playing certain sounds such as ringtones. I wonder if I should exchange or if it's normal (for the z3) seeing as a few people have the same issue.
I replaced mine and I still have rattling during calls, at pretty much any volume. I don't hear it during music though, which makes me wonder if it may be fixed by an update.
Yeah, me also face the problem too.. Very annoying.. Hmmmm
This started to happen to me, I had been using the phone in the pool, three days later I could hardly even hear the top speaker, I ran music through the speakers for one day (taped up the bottom one), hoping it would fix the problem. but It didn't. Now after 6 days it has started to get louder again, so now I can hear callers again and the phone ring. And is now starting to make the sound you all mention here. As you all say very annoying, Sony must have a manufacturing defect on just that speaker.
Does anyone have any idea if this can be fixed with software? If not, the Z3 is going back and I'm getting either the Moto X or the Note 4
happened to me since day 1 as well. Bought in Australia.
In case anyone is wondering, I returned the phone for the Note 4 and the call quality is 10x better... actually the phone is 10x better in pretty much every way including camera. Not that the Xperia was bad at all, but it just didn't feel polished enough... hopefully the Z4 fixes things
Hi,
I could reduce this problem by enabling the "S-Force Front Surround" option in Settings> Sounds> Sound Effects.
I believe that this problem can be solved with a software update that set the correct equalization to remove that rattle from the top speaker.
Regards!
@Djuro89. Try this; fixed it for me

Hi,
This is my current equalizer settings. With this configuration the crackling of the top speaker disappeared. Also deactivated other effect options (ClearAudio+ and Surround).
Regards!
I experience this too, I thought it was water related, I'll give it a try
Hi,
I never put my phone in water.
I believe it is an equalization problem in phone software.
With the equalizer setting that I mentioned in my last post I never had this problem.
Regards!

Hi it annoys me during calls too..
Hello,
i've noticed the same defect on my Z3... It just happens at specified frequencies, i've tried changing equalization's settings and disabling clear audio+ but nothing changes. It looks like a poor speaker quality because if you lower the volume the audio is clear, don't you agree? Thank you.

[Q] Z3 recording

So I was at a concert and I recorded a 10 min video at 4K. When I got home and played the video I noticed that the right speaker is louder than the left one(both on my headset and my laptop speakers)... Is there a problem with my 2nd microphone or it's normal to have this volume difference? ( I also notice this difference in older recorded videos). Thx !

When you are recording, one microphone points to one side (beside headphone jack) and the other microphone is facing to you (bottom speaker). So, it should have a little diference in volume when comparing left and right, but not too big.
To minimize this, make sure the phone is not wet and do not use a case that blocks the little hole beside headphone jack.
Thx for the answer. The difference is not very high but it's a little annoying, especially on the headsets. But at a concert where the music is loud, thie difference should exist? The phone was dry and I'm not wearing a case

Problem: Noise clacking/popping/static- in Photography Video, please help

Hello everyone.
I'm writing this message again, I'll try to be more clear.
I bought Galaxy s7 edge new lately, and yesterday, for the first time, I started to photograph video on the camera of the device.
Okay, I'm done recording a video, And I went to the gallery on the device, To watch what i photographed.
Then I saw that there is a problem, in the video i photographed.
The problem is: Noise in video.
I don't know how to set the noise, Maybe noise static? Maybe noise popping?
Or, actually, I know, Pretty sure this is the clacking noise!!
Because I noticed, When I move my fingers, while recording, then hear these noise :/
I think that microphone is very sensitive to Noise clicks...
By the way, These noise also hear every recording differently, Not only photography video.
Also here talking about the problem (But me it's not just at the beginning of the video) : https://us.community.samsung.com/t5...s-have-strange-static-noises-at-the/td-p/1993
Is anyone here having this problem? I would be happy If you Write a comment Please, I need your help :good:

I'm new to the S7 but had an S4 a few years back and had a very similar issues. Even back then the camera was fantastic and took really clear HD video, but it would feature the same type of popping or crackling noise which could be heard during the first few seconds of video. What I used to do was make a vid recording of 1-2 secs and stop it, then start a new one, the 2nd video clip didn't have the crackling issue.
I must try more videos on my S7, as one of them did have some muffled pop noise at the start but I thought it was just me handling the phone.

Microphone broken?

Hey,
i have a huge problem with my microphone. I got my u11 yesterday, I recorded a voice message via WhatsApp and I noticed that the quality is very miserable. I assume that a microphone must be damaged, but before I complain I wanted to make sure that this is not normal. In Videos the sound quality is alright (first example) but in voice messages the quality is very bad (second example)
I had to add a few blanks
good:
ht tps: //ww w.dropbox. com/s/km9ub4eye134w80/Sprachnotiz%200008.aac?dl=0
bad:
ht tps: //ww w.dropbox. com/s/49a18fojngsdxt5/Meine%20Aufnahme%20%233.wav?dl=0
Is this the normal quality? No, right?

Have you tried recording a message in the stock recorder app? If it is fine then it sounds like WhatsApp is the problem.
It's not a problem of whatsapp. Because the problem also occurs with other apps.. i downloaded several voice recorder apps and always the same bad quality. But with the stock recorder app the quality is good.

So it sounds like the problem exists in 3rd party apps which probably haven't been updated to work properly with the hardware of the device. Doesn't seem like a hardware defect to me if you can get good audio recording in any app.
My WhatsApp sounds fine so yeah might be your mic...call someone and see
Same problem on mine
I have just bought an HTC u11 in taiwan and I have the same problem. I ran the audio diagnostics (See HTC.com support for instructions) and the Microphone #3 has a very low level with some electrical noise, so it is clearly a hardware problem.
The phone is 2 weeks old... I am very disapointed and ask HTC to replace it but they don't seem cooperative, they want to open it and fix it, which is obviously not great. Haing a brand new phone open for repair is not good.
Not Good HTC...

If you're within your return window, just return it. Buy another u11 or find a different device.
I have the same problem in microphone 3. Interesting enough, It is not completly useless and seems to get better from time to time. I wonder if there is a problem with the water isolation. The main problem is to talk while in loudspeaker, people cant hear me well. I wonder if I can divert the microphone while in loudspeaker so that the phone uses microphone 1, 2 or 4. Then my problem would be solved. Anyhow, if some functionality exist in the microphone, shouldnt we be able to increase gain?
There is something up with the microphones... Works fine in stock apps including phone and camera but fails HTC diagnostics and third party apps - the HTC diagnostic app doesn't even pull anything from any of them including the headset. I wonder if it's a kernel issue.
I have absolutely great news. I have discovered my problem at least. I happened to discover that the glass protection was covering microphone 3. The glass was badly cut and when I took the protection off everything was alright again. Maybe same problem jterpreau? please check.

Mic #3 is imediatly left of front facing camera
Solved
Yeah, I had the exact same fault and it was the screen protector covering the mic.
Have removed it now and it's all good!
Yeah, i fixed it!!!
so mic #3 has issues, but i noticed that the protecting glass is the problem, because mic #3 is right above the screen and if you use inappropriate screen protector, it will lead to this. remove the screen protector and test it
i have issue using Instagram video snaps, the sound is awful and not clear! all microphones are NOT covered!
same goes for whatsapp videos!
however using the stock camera app, all works well!

Microphone broken? - U11 mic3
Same problem, initially worked for all audio, but after phone got briefly rained on, voice recorder does not work, and I have no voice output in calls. Video records audio (different mics). If I try to record on voice recorder it briefly registers one initial peak then nothing, playback produces one brief click at the start, which can be felt through the back (midway down, to the left) as well as heard. Earphones still work, although HTC's adaptor won't work if I plug the audio lead from the stereo into it. No wireless charging is a shame, can't cv charge when you're using the USB C socket for audio. I've been loyal to htc for a while, this phone is a disaster, for more reasons than I've mentioned, and far too fragile. I reckon it's hexed or coated in marching nanobots, you can't put it down anywhere without it sliding off - it often waits 5 or 10 mins before doing this, and requires no disturbance, vibration, notifications or passing traffic to assist it. My first u11 broke when it slid out of its case whilst in call, something it was quite adept at. Sadly it is the only HTC offered by my carrier as an upgrade from the m9 . I'm not saying the HTC one was without the odd issue, but I found them to be durable and robust, sensitive and responsive, and intuitive to use. There apoear to be lots of issues appearing with poor integration with 3rd party apps & hardware. Swype is barely useable, and glitchy. Very very disappointed. Looks nice, feels good. Insufficient design & dev. Doomrd. How fast did you break or brick yours?

Thanks a lot!! With a small knife I was able to reopen the whole of the mic so the sound could be received again. It solved the issue. You may dial *#*#3424#*#* and select "Audio Test" to test quality of all 4 microphones.
Thanks!

I've got a problem as Cantata. In stock apps microphones works nice, but in apps as snapchat or whatsapp sucks. Apps uses front microphone and recordes good in about 1 second, but after app mutes micro. Any help?
