laggy playback on youtube on HDR videos - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

first of all, why is it very laggy now, playing HDR videos on youtube?
plus why if im watching HDR there is no more than 1080p option? my phone is 4k HDR why doesnt it give me such options?
but my most important issue here is the first one, why is it laggy like that?

I don't see any lag on YouTube. Maybe you have stamina turn on??

I don't have any probleme in 1080, 1440 p hdr 60 fps. Only in 4k hdr but I have a lower connexion.
Ps: I don't use youtube app, only in chrome or firefox in Web mode. Firefox is better, nothing lag

I have very small lag too, but only with hdr youtube video
I tried time ago to put on the phone some 4k hdr videos and they were smooth without any lag
So i think it's a youtube problem

I remeber 4K HDR on My Devices worked just smooth and without Problems but it started lagging one day without any Reason and YouTube just blocked 4K HDR on Android Devices. Very sad about that since i know that it can Work...

60fps YouTube on Android?

Now that YouTube supports videos at 60fps, is there an app that supports viewing at that framerate? I'd love to be able to utilize this new feature on my phone.
YouTube released it yersterday. We have to wait

I believe the Nexus 5 does, doesn't it? I managed to manually download a 60fps video, and the VLC app confirms that the framerate is 60fps. I noticed a distinct difference when watching that video compared to the 30fps version. Am I crazy to have noticed a difference? Does the Nexus 5 not support 60fps playback?

Awfully helpful, thank you.
This thread seems to indicate that 60fps is possible, at least in the boot animation.
Unless the refresh rate is being locked to 30Hz, hardware wise there shouldn't be anything to stop it from displaying 60 frames of video in a second. However I don't think the app has been updated to support it yet.
well, everywhere i have read, it says nexus 5 can do 30fps while playing video. now i do know that we can get 60fps in gaming. is it a hardware limitation? that i cant answer..

I think even a 2011 device can run at 60fps
Try downloading a 60fps video, watch on native or mx player and see for yourself
For those still interested. Yes the Nexus 5 can play 60fps video.
As for watching 60fps YouTube, I have finally found an app for it.
Simply install Viral Popup from the Play Store.
Open the app and open the Settings from the menu dropdown in the top-right. Enable "Dash Player".
Now back out of Settings and find a 60fps video. Select the video and once it starts playing, pause the video, then click the [Gear] button and you'll see a list of qualities. Scroll down and you should see two 720p options, choose the second one. Rewind the video and hit play.
Enjoy 60fps YouTube on Android
NOTE: Not all 60fps videos will work in the app yet. It seems 1080p 60fps videos will not load at all.

Does this still work? I can't find the option anywhere anymore in Viral from the play store, nor in Viral from the developers Google+ page...

No Youtube 1440p 60fps option?

Is anyone able to get 1440p 60fps videos working on youtube? I don't have the option on my Youtube app (latest version). I confirmed that the videos I was watching had the 1440p60 option on my laptop. VZW SD820 S7.
Also, does anyone else's video freeze/stutter when watching 1440p 30fps videos in YouTube? Sometimes the WiFi drops out for a sec too.
I am on the latest WiFi-fixed OTA.

4k hdr questions on YouTube

yesterday i could watch 4k hdr 60 on YouTube but today i can only play 1080 hdr 60 . do you haven meet this question?
When YouTube first launched HDR on mobile, in tandem with a 4k 60fps, the playback was extremely choppy(frames would be dropped). I believe they pulled 4K 60FPS HDR for awhile and are just staying at 1080hdr for now.

I concur. I have sent a complaint to YouTube and I believe many others have about 4k and even 2k being extremely choppy/ audio desync with HDR footage. 4k 60 is still perfectly fine though. I watched a few 4k 60fps vids to confirm today
Is it possible to get 4k60 HDR back by installing previous version of YouTube app?

No, the 4k 60fps HDR option is controlled server-side.

Just checking on the latest YouTube I can't get any videos I tried to play 2160 all options go to 1080

Video stabilization after updates

I remember video stabilization not working on 4K video recording, but a few updates ago it was fixed. However, after that update 1080p video stabilization stopped working. So now 720p and 4k videos are stabilized but 1080p are not.
Anyone has this problem? 4k videos usually take too much space, but I prefer 1080p over 720p..
Working well for me but I'm on Global BETA MIUI 10 8.8.2

When you are playing HDR video, drag the notification bar down and you can see that the grey color is lighter than usual.
But 4K 60 fps is not playing smoothly as it used to in Nougat. Hope Sony fixes it in Pie!
