I've been using my micro SD card to store all my music for as long as I've had my 6x. All of a sudden a couple of weeks back I noticed that in the music app none of my songs were to be found. Upon digging further, it became evident to me that the micro SD card was not mounting as external storage since I could not see it under "Settings --> Storage".
Some info:
1) It's a sandisk micro SD ; 64GB SDXC
2) EMUI version 5.0.4
3) Build number BLN-L24C567B376
And I've tried the following :
1) Verified that the SD card mounts without any problem on my PC - confirmed SD card was not the issue
2) Formatted the SD card in both "quick format" and "not quick format" options - didn't solve the problem
3) Reset the phone to factory settings - didn't solve the problem
What is interesting to note is that my phone underwent a software update right about the time when the SD card mounting issue cropped up. But I don't know that for sure and it could be just a coincidence.
Any help / suggestions or sharing of experience with this issue would be appreciated.
Did you try to check in a 3RD Party File Explorer.

Hi this is my second time coming across this problem, and I'm posting after searching/ googling for an answer. Any help is appreciated.
-I took my factory 16bg micro sd card out of my phone and put it into an SD card adapter which i then placed in my computer.
-using W7 and easus partition master i formatted the card to fat32
-when placed in my phone, the card is not recognized under settings or in cwm
-The card is fully working under linux and windows.
-I rewrote my backup of my sdcard to the newly formatted card thinking the addition of androidsecure would fix the problem. It didnt.
-I reformatted with windows a few times with no avail.
Again, any help would be appreciated as I am at a lost and would not like to have to start over with odin.
-sgs4g/ froyo/ audiophile redux 1.3.2/ bali 3.3uv/ tegrak underclocked
EDIT: Problem solved with Panasonics SD card formatting utility. It did a quick format that took all of 3 seconds. Popped it in my phone and it worked.
-I hate opening and immediately closing a thread, so my apologies.
Try reformatting through your phone.
Settings > SD card and phone storage > unmount SD card > format SD card

When I go to that tab under settings, mount sd and format sd are grayed out. It says to insert an sd card. Any thoughts?
Try formatting to fat, not fat32. I think your phone will recognize it afterward and then you can use the phone format tool.
I know that this thread is marked solved, but I had a similar problem that this solution didn't clear up. I re-formatted the sdcard in the phone but, when I boot into recovery, CWM still can't mount it ("Error mounting /sdcard"). This means I can't make a backup, which is going to be a prerequisite for trying out a new rom.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
same issue...
I am having the same issue. I have CWM up but it will not mount the SD card, can't seam to find any real straight forward answer. Any help would be vary helpful.
Hi all,
I recently installed wicked v9.1 rom on my T-mobile Galaxy S3. Prior to that I was running Wicked v8 and everything was fine. I have a 64gb Sandisk sd card and it was working fine until this flash. I put the card in my pc and all my files are still on there and accessible so I backed them up on my PC. Then I formatted my sd card to exfat and tried mounting in the phone again, it gives me the same problem: It says preparing sd card/checking for errors, then it just says sd card is safe to remove. I tried going into settings to mount it but it does the same thing and doesn't offer a format option. I'm not sure what the problem is here since it works perfectly fine on my PC, I even ran a chkdsk /f on it and no errors were found. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!
I may not have the same device as you, but I've run into the exact same problem with two of my sd cards. My phone refused to recognize my sd card, even though Windows reported it as working fine. When I looked into the storage info, I was not able to format the card as well.
I tried the non-working memory cards in a few other Android devices with similar results - they were not being read. This led me to conclude that there was something wrong with the card, or more specifically, how Android handled the sd card.
On one of my cards (Generic Brand 1GB), a simple format with MiniTool Partition Wizard fixed the problem. On the other hand, a 16GB Patriot card refused to work after multiple formats (regular and deep). I t was still under warranty though and the replacement works fine.
As a last ditch effort, look and see if your SD manufacturer offers any special formatting utilities.
Hope this helped!
My phone is unable to detect my SD card, details are as following:
1] I tried with two cards, one 4GB class2 card and 32GB class10 UHS-I card. Both cards were working fine before I messed up. (Scroll down to see what I did)
2] Both cards work fine on other phones (Lumia720, lenovo P780) and in my laptop when I connect them using card reader.
3] Other cards work fine in my phone. (Cards from Lumia720, lenovo P780)
4] Phone detects above memory cards (4GB, class2 card, 32GB class10 UHS-I) in Recovery menu. (I browsed it when I was trying to "install zip from sd card". And I could browse the entire sd card with no problem.)
5] In ES File explorer it says "SD card unmounted or not present". In "SD & phone storage", it says "Total space: unavailable", "Available Space: Unavailable". In camera app, it says "Please insert an SD card".
6] "fastboot oem enableqxdm 0" is not working.
Here's what I did:
Everything was going smoothly.
1] 4GB card was in the phone, I did hard factory reset without unmounting the card. When I rebooted, above error occurred (SD card unmounted or not present).
2] I bought a new 32GB card, it was working fine in the phone.
3] While 32 GB card was inside phone: I installed "Superuser-3.0.7-efgh-signed" using "install zip from sd card" menu in "recovery" mode. When I rebooted above error occurred (For 32GB card).
4] I inserted previous 4GB card, it got detected and was working fine.
5] I did hard factory reset without unmounting the 4GB card. When I rebooted, above error occurred (with 4GB card).
Now both cards have above problem (SD card unmounted or not present).
Very strange problem. Will be glad to hear solution.
Thanx well in advance.

No, I formatted it using "MiniTool Partition Wizard". I can't detect SD card from "settings - phone storage" menu.
Mini Tool is to blame for that issue. I messed up a couple of SD Cards with it. The only way I could revive them was this: Find an older phone (not smart phone, some older Nokia or Samsung - I did it on Samsung J200) and insert the SD Card in it and format it within the settings of the phone. It should do the trick.
Hi folks,
I have an SD card here that I was using for Adopted Storage but I've managed to get it stuck as an "adopted" card and can't seem to get it back functioning as a normal SD card
Long story short... I wiped the device the card was in but I didn't "unadopt" the SD card before hand - as in set it back to portable mode. While the device could recognise there was an SD card afterwards, it couldn't prepare it for use and suggested a card error or something to that effect.
I figured I'd just pop it in my laptop (Windows 10 x64) and re-format it but this didn't work. Failing this, I decided I'd "nuke" it using Minitools Partition Wizard. While this program had better luck identifying the card, could display and delete the partitions on it and could run the Wipe task - it had no effect on the card... the partitions just re-appear after any attempt to nuke them!
Has anyone any ideas about how I can restore this card back to a normal FAT formated SD card?
Just to clarify - I don't care for the data that might be on it... I just want the card back usable
Thanks
Recovering an "Adopted" SD Card?
The best solution for now would be to plug the sd card into a phone with android 6.0 so that the phone can read the card and then while setting it up,you can format the card as "normal "(the part where it asks you whether to use the card as in adaptive storage or for accessing files).

When I try this, I get "Unsupported SanDisk SD card"
I'm then asked to select either Portable or Internal and then Erase & Format but neither work. They fail at 20% and the message "Unsupported SanDisk SD card" is shown again
I'm a bit stumped. I thought surely the encryption used on adopted cards was only to stop external reads. It seems in this case it's stopping me from writing to or formating the card
Running out of options
hi everyone
i have a d838 16gb version, and currently i cannot mount sd card
I have taken the steps below to check and test the phone, trying to figuring out whether it is a hardware or software issue, but no conclusion can be drawn currently, so would like to seek your help
symptoms:
1. cannot detect class 10 cards but can detect class 4 cards
2. when class 4 cards are detected, a message 'sd card inserted - empty' was prompted
3. but even when class 4 card was detected, the sd card cannot be mounted:
a. in the settings, the buttons of mount sd card / erase sd card are in grey
b. after a while, when the two buttons are available, i tried to mount the sd card again but failed
c. i tried to erase the card, it prompted the card is being checked, and eventually cannot mount neither
4. I tried with another class 4 card, same results happens. All cards tested were functioning normally on other phones or on computer. Formatting on different file systems (FAT, FAT32, exFAT, NTFS) were all attempted.
5. The phone was originally on v20b lolipop when i did all of the above. Rebooting was attempted, and when the sd card is inserted, the phone stucks at the boot animation screen (still moving) when the phone is booting. The phone exits animation when the sd card is plugged out
6. Downgrading to stock v10d was attempted via flashing kdz. Above procedures were all attempted but same results obtained.
Currently I am thinking what areas / steps had I omitted... hope the experts here can help
thinking whether it is a software or hardware issue, but the contradictory finding is, class 4 cards can still be detected!
thanks for reading such a long post and sorry for poor English
