ROM Download location / recovery.img - Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 Questions & Answers

Does anyone know where I can find the Mix 3 china stable rom?
I'm trying to compile a working version of TWRP but it requires me to extract the rom so I can gather its compiled kernel.
(Kernel sources themselves probably not be released for at least one month, probably multiple months knowing xiaomi)
Its not on the miui.com website yet, but I might just be looking in the wrong spot.
Thanks!

To answer my own question, got it:

That looks like a developer rom, not a stable, if it is important for you.

I should be getting a couple of the 8gb/256 versions from China in a couple of weeks if i can provide any help. A friend is bringing them back for me after his 2 week trip that started just yesterday.

Wow, that is a first! Possibly a version of TWRP for this phone but no one has it yet to try it out on.. haha.
By the way, when anyone gets one, try out the GPS L1/L5 and see what the accuracy is. The Mi8 had a software glitch and it sounds like it is fixed now. I am just curious if mix 3 has the L1/L5 bands like they claim it has. Create a thread ... GPS Accuracy ... or something like that.

Just a question for everyone here... the phone is the Chinese version right? With TWRP we should be able to flash the Global Rom when it becomes available? Did I jump the gun ordering the Chinese unit or will I be OK?

I'm expecting mine Friday Saturday fingers crossed, will let you know when it appears.

I ordered mine from gearbest on the 5th. It said it would should around November 12-15. The description on gearbest didn't say anything about the rom bring Chinese or global

You don't need TWRP to install GSI ROMs. You can do it through fastboot. TWRP is good to have, of course.

Any Canadian Users??

Wondering if any Canadian Users have received an update yet? I'm with Telus, build number 7SQ8-UD80.
I'm running one I bought from Koodo. I'm on that same 7SQ8-UD80 build. Wondering if Alcatel pushes the updates, or if it'd need to go through carrier testing first.
If it needs to go through carrier testing, might take a while to get an update...that's if that carrier decides to bother putting money into testing an at all. Kind of early to know for sure though.
Might not hurt to ask Alcatel or your carrier via Twitter.
Any Canadians have update yet? I still haven't!
Just picked up one from Bell yesterday for my wife.
It didn't download any system updates. I didn't check the version number but she did experience that lag issue when clearing recent apps and wasn't too impressed with the camera quality. Hoping the update comes soon and at least fixes the camera quality. She also experienced a couple of FC's when trying to change the default notification sounds... Reboot fixed that.
I'm fairly certain the device is unlocked so I'm hoping the update can come directly from Alcatel and not have to go through the carrier.

Still no updates on mine. As for the Bell one being unlocked...it'd be best to verify it using a non Bell and non virgin sim card to test it. It'd be highly irregular for them to not lock it.
I bought mine unlocked from Amazon.com and use it on Wind mobile up here. Got the 7SQR-UER0 update OTA around a week ago.
Generally I have found it to be more responsive, scrolling lists in apps are smooth now instead of stuttering every time. Haven't really tested the camera quality though.
My DTTW is awful I hope they push the update soon!
I have emailed telus and Alcatel at PR.NA(at)alcatelonetouch.com to see if there's an ETA or update coming anytime soon
Hopefully we hear something back

In the system updates checker what firmware does it show you having? I'm asking all these questions because if it's similar to the usa firmwares then you could download the twrp backups provided of the os with all updates and flash to your device. Details on the project are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/idol-3/general/want-to-able-to-install-ota-updates-t3163745 You'd be booting twrp and doing a restore instead of a backup but same basic process.

When it comes to emailing TELUS, you'd be better off asking their social media team..so Twitter or Facebook. Email probly won't help, or will get you a very generic answer.

I've used twrp before with root and custom ROMs but am I able to use it to flash the 6045i firmware without rooting or using twrp as the recovery?
If so has anyone else tried it?
Does Alcatel have software similar to Odin where I can load other ROMs without rooting?
So any updates yet Canadians, still nothing for me on Telus.
Still nothing on Koodo (same as Telus)
Any updates yet Canadians??
Nothing on Koodo/telus yet (not surprised)
Has anyone gotten a useful reply from their carrier yet?

OpenKirin site now launched

So it looks like the OpenKirin site is finally here and they have their Lineage based ROMs available for download.
Now it does say the 970 is a supported chipset, but it doesn't list the P20/Pro as a device.
From what I can see it looks like EMUI camera and gallery are fully supported.
I'm not rooted etc. but does anyone know who's working on this project or if it can be tested on our device at all?
Would be keen to see a nice working Lineage ROM with full support of the EMUI camera.

1 - YNWA
2 - what would be the advantage of the Treble releases? My dream would be that its more like stock but ..
YNWA
Treble is just a system image, probably won't completely work for every device, probably won't ever be fixed for every device.
Whereas a full ROM, usually only has to be fixed / tweaked once.[
When you install a ROM you flash most of the device and it's generally in a zip format, whereas a treble ROM is an IMG and you flash it only to the system partition leaving everything else intact.

Yeah I know there is a Lineage ROM, but I was under the impression the camera isn't fully working right? It still has the gallery issue doesn't it?
If you read the FAQs you will see that they mention you shouldn't flash the current downloads on the P20/Pro. They will provide builds for this phone at a later date.

So there's very few custom ROM's here for the Pro, there's one called Romaur and a Lineage ROM, haven't flashed either.
All i did was unlock bootloader, install TWRP and Root, then i've tweaked the OS so that it's faster and more stable.
Themed it and for me that's enough.
I did debrand though so you may want to look at that first, the c432 device is the EU one i think or whats predominantly used in EU countries, mine was the c782 L09 which is the single sim variant from EE.
Changing over to c432 has allowed me to get the latest updates like 120 - 128 and i think at some point b131 will drop.
The c782 afaik is still on 110 which is a bit crap.
Check the guide here to debrand: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76785704&postcount=152 if it's something you want to do.
Guide to install OTA updates when you have TWRP installed and are rooted etc: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76844754&postcount=254
Hopefully there will be more ROM's but at the moment it's extremely quiet.
Treble is a bit of an issue for us i think because the installation method requires the use of TWRP to wipe and i've read somewhere that it can't wipe correctly so it fails when you flash a treble IMG.
There's a few great guides to install treble in one of the threads over in the project treble section, take a look.
I'll get around to installing treble img's at some point but can't today.

If you bought you're device in the UK it's highly likely it's branded (even if there's no visual indications that it is) to a mobile network. Mine was bought via Mobiles.co.uk on 02 network and I assumed it was completely unbranded as there was no bloatware or 02 branding but apparently any updates from Huawei need to go though 02's checks before being pushed out and so updates are slooooowwww. debranding is essentially removing any ties to a network thus you get the Huawei updates as soon as they push them out.

That's correct. I have a rom that I want to use that's on Marshmallow and since I know I can't downgrade from bootloader version 5 I'm sending this phone back that just got to my house today.

Yeah it sucks and everyone on Ebay and Amazon is claiming it is and it gets here on bootloader version 5 no where near Marshmallow! I figured I'd try here for a change since I know there's got to be some people like me that deal with phones every day and probably have one in a drawer somewhere! Hopefully anyway! Thanks though!
You might do some more research. I have heard that while Odin won't let you downgrade a bootloader, TWRP will. The "lock" isn't in the phone; it is in Odin. I haven't tried it (or needed to), so I'm not certain that it works. This means, of course, that you need to find a ROM (w/ bootloader) or standalone bootloader in TWRP zip format.

EU rom questions

ToneLa said:
It's not only the best phone I've ever used, I think it's clearly far & away the best in class for a phone today and I genuinely want it to raise bars for what's possible with the hardware. As a package, it's remarkable. Best in class overall & in many areas.
I just love it. Nothing is a disappointment. Getting on the xiaomi.eu ROM negated the ill effects of importing a deGoogled phone. It's reliable, charges in ludicrously quick time, is a fantastic camera, seems unofficially pretty splashproof. Feels good, looks good, sounds good, works with everything

based on official, but not official. They do updates over the air normally but not til TWRP is ready. They're a solid group, used them before when I had a Mi 9. From a readme:

Since 2010 our web site has officially worked with Xiaomi on a variety of projects for APP translations and bug fixing and is a major part of today's Xiaomi Global ROM experience thanks to the great team at xiaomi.eu and its community.

trust them.
Get yourself on to the EU ROM. I know it's going to take a week to get unlocked but it's well worth while. The EU ROM makes this a superb phone and I've come from a Huawei P40 Pro plus that photographically may be better but there is not much in it. I just love this phone now. Got a couple of cases coming and a better screen cover protector.

Ok is there a way back to getting the phone "locked" again on stock rom if i want to return ?
Why do you want it locked again? The EU ROM shows no security issues, it passed every test.
On the Chinese ROM, I couldn't use my Sky Q as it said it wasn't secure and that was before flashing. Now I can use it. Is there a reason you need it locked?
You can flash the Chinese stock ROM if you do want. I have done to test but come back to the EU version. If you need a link to the stock let me know, I did put instructions on the Xiaomi forum but can copy it here.

I mean if i want to return it to default to be able to sell it. Also 2 questions, does the windows way work or not because i read there's issues in the bat file and only linux works. I dont have access to a linux machine currently. 2nd question, when twrp is ready, until then we will have to flash ourselves until twrp is ready to be able to do OTA?
We've found a fix for the windows method which involves swapping out the fastboot. It's all there in the thread for it, I promise...this is for overall love
And if you may sell it, unless you are going to sell to a Chinese person, I think they will appreciate not having to do the change from the Chinese version.
There are warnings about relocking and the possibility of bricking but you can always flash the stock Chinese version again like I did to test it and then back to EU ROM. Unlocking will bind your Mi account to you phones hardware but this can be swapped to another user if you sell.

twrp when it works
fastboot for now
Or direct from them https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/20-9-3-4.57258/
What are the benefits of EU Rom? I have removed all bloat on China ROM and it's doing fine. Just having and issue of high power consumption of Google Play Services and mdnsd.
See attached screenshots. Plus battery lasts longer, no issues with notification and it reports it's fully secure. For me, it refused to run skyq as the app said it was not secure. Using the EU ROM, it's happy. Have a look at the attached.
How long does Xiaomi normally support their devices? How many "Major" android upgrades do the provide? Like from 10 to 11? And if we went through the EU Rom route will they provide updates for longer?

Question Playstore and Global release

This device looks great. Do you guys know if this will be launched with the Playstore in China or will this have a Global release in the near future?
I couldn't find the ROM for this device in MIUI forms, do you guys know if and when the ROM will be released so that we can get Root for this device?
I bought it from Wanda mobile, Chinese/English languages and all Google matters installed. They are going to ship July 15th. I believe they'll create a global version but I don't think immediately.
The Xiaomi EU forum will probably be the first to release a more generic ROM but in fastboot versions until a working twrp is produced.
Mine too is coming from Wanda and as said, it will come with a basic Google with playstore but I will flash the first Xiaomi EU fastboot ROM as soon as I can.

It might kind of a dumb question but is it possible to flash Magisk without a custom recovery (e.g. TWRP) because if I can't root it as soon as I get it, I probably won't buy the phone haha
No phone has a working twrp on release. It needs the guys who can, to work on it and modify a twrp version to match the new phone. So everyone will have to wait for that.
Normally a custom fastboot ROM gets released until a working twrp is found and then custom ROMs tend to be in a twrp flash version and of course ability to flash magisk. Just hand on a while until a twrp is found before buying.

Thanks for the answer
How long do you think it would take for a custom fastboot ROM to be released?
Probably a couple of weeks after release? Check out the Xiaomi EU forum for its release, as those are the guys who will have the first but also check out https://mifirm.net/model/thor.ttt for all the latest releases and twrp releases.
I had no idea that mifirm website had existed, I'll keep track. Thanks again!
This is exciting. I'm waiting for mine in Canada, bought internationally. Not sure where mine will be coming from. I usually buy internationally.
Hoping for a quick mod fastboot edition of the ROM to install for removal of junkware and inclusion of PlayStore plus better battery optimizations by default.
Based in the US and I ordered one from Giztop.com on July 4th and received it yesterday (July 11th.) Looking forward to switching the Chinese Rom to another rom. It came with the Google Playstore.
Do you think android auto will be available to this model?
