What apps work in Samsung Ultra Power Saver Mode? - Android General

Hey, so I love listening to podcasts at work and love the Podcast Addict app. Works flawlessly.
Unfortunately this app isn't on the list of apps that work in UPSM. The chances of this being added by Samsung are little to none so was wondering does anyone have an alternative podcast app with auto download (not streaming like Google's) that would work in UPSM?
I know I can root and change it to a system app and that should work? (Correct me if I'm wrong) But I'm trying not to root a phone for once (as a bet)! This could push me over the edge though!

Music apps

Hi is there anyone notice about the music apps frequently change or stop the music automatically when you lock the phone?
And at times it automatically call my phone contacts...

Not to completely hijack, but I too have a question about a music player and don't want to put up a new thread:
Does anyone have a recommendation for an app that is: low-resource, devoid of lockscreen freezing/dialing (no exp with this, but above poster made it sound terrible), and supports control via a2dp/bluetooth?
I frequently use my phone as my GPS in my car and would like to be able to run a music app in the background that I can control from a bluetooth headset. I assume that there are some "simple" music apps that require fewer resources in the background.
Does anyone have a recommendation? Is the sensation powerful enough that any old app should run fine in the background?
Best,
NR

PowerAMP hands down is the best application I have used, and trust me, I lost count of how many different ones I have tried. It isn't cheap though at $4.99, but give the 2 week FULL trial a test drive and see if you like it. I liked it so much I bought it. It has all the features you requested above.

[APP] Google Music Multi User Support

Have you guys ever ran into the problem where you were listening to music on you phone then you play music on you tablet and Google pauses your music because your playing music on multiple devices?
Well this app I made fixes that.
I made this app quickly because me and my friend are always listening to music at the same time and it kept pausing the music.
When I have more time Ill update it with a better icon, better look, ect. but it works perfectly and it makes me so happy.
I know I can't be the only one in the world that ran into this problem and was annoyed. So here's a fix
HOW TO:
-just open the app, click on accessibility and turn on Google Music Multi User Support.
-Thats it. You're done.
No need to worry about it again. Turn on and off your phone? No worries. Don't even think about it.
also this app doesn't affect battery, like at all.
This app has only been tested on:
*Nexus 7
*Galaxy S4
*Galaxy SIII

No way to control music??

It looks like there is no way to control music currently?
Until recently I have been using the Smart Extras Music app and Media Button control apps to control my music player (Google Music). Now that I have updated to KitKat, the Smart Extras Music app crashes.
Sony should be ashamed. This is one of the main uses of the damn watch. :cyclops:
I am developer by trade, so I will use Sony's API to create an app to do it, but it is infuriating that I have to!
This sort of stuff is the reason I sold my Xperia S and bought a Nexus!
I just picked up a sw2 and have the n5, willing to test for you if need be

A possible solution could be to find another working music player smart extension on the Google Play.
In my case the Sony music player extension no longer works after the latest update, so I bought this one and it works well with my S4 stock music player and it's also fast responding:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.disrapptive.smart.music
If you want to try, consider that if you'll not be satisfied with it you have 15 minutes to eventually ask for a reimbursement.
Re: No way to control music
Sony should create a application that could help in stoping and playing music from the Smartwatch
If you have poweramp player installed, you can use it's plugin. It supports SW1 and SW2.
And what about default app for SW1 - it works with both default player and poweramp. Don't know about SW2.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sonyericsson.extras.liveware.extension.music
Check this default app out.
Re: No ways to control music
Yes I did not find any way to control to music over smartwatch..
Works fine for me on my N4 with 4.4.2 in ART mode and Google Music. It sometimes takes a few attempts but then works fine. I just don't see any album art on the SW2.
Make sure you don't have some sort of task killer and that you didn't Greenify the Sony apps.
A Redditor created a new extension to control music. His one shows album art and also supports the new "low power" mode: http://www.reddit.com/r/smartwatch/comments/1ty29q/smartwatch_2_music_control
Ive solved this problem with remote widgets app and Its perfect.

I get:
Parse error
There was a problem while parsing the package.
Nexus 4, Android 4.3. I guess perhaps the guy has written it only for 4.4 for now?
I had a chance to have a closer look. It is a permission error:
Code:
permission Denial: reading com.android.providers.media.MediaProvider uri
I don't have the full text of the log cat entry, as stupid me didn't save it before factory reset my phone.
Anyway, it turns out the Sony music control app is getting a permission denied error under KitKat when it attempts to retrieve album art.
The work around is to root your device. I hadn't gotten around to rooting my N4 until now. My N4 is now rooted, and it all works fine.
It is a pretty piss poor effort by Sony that they haven't fixed this. On Facebook their excuse was that "their phones don't run KitKat yet". Big deal Sony, you market you watches to other brands of phone too. This is exactly the sort of attitude that caused me to sell my Xperia S and get a Nexus.

My Nexus 5 is rooted and yet the Sony extension has never worked well, in fact it's easily the worse part of the watch. I have had no problems with anything else, aside from the music app. I wonder how did you get it to work with root? Do you need to give it permission elsewhere?
The above app from the Reddit thread works nicely, very simple but, album art is sort of there and it only plays/pauses but, it WORKS which is the main thing.
Disabbling Google music in application manager on My note 3 makes the SW2 control music on the stock music player which is the one I like to use

[Q] Disable stock music player

Hi there,
I don't like to use the stock music player. I want to use Spotify only.
If the music is playing and the device is locked, I push the power button und get the lock screen, with the music controls in the upper area. If I hit "pause", the fun begins: Spotify stops playing and the stock music app starts playing. This is just ridiculous.
I tried to set Spotify as default music player, but that doesn't change that behaviour. I installed Nova Launcher, but I cannot "disable" the stock apps as I have no root.
Are there any possibilities to disable the stock music app without root?

oh ! sorry : I read too quicly : it does require root access....
Seems not possible without root i have the same Problem with Google play music. Stock music begins to play...
Think positively that the default player comes with many free music.
But its not possible to control the music through lock screen. Thats a big gap
I am having this same issue. Stock lock screen seems to have media controls permanently locked to stock music player. The most infuriating thing is the artwork and everything is displayed as you would expect, but as soon as you touch a media control it activates stock music app.
What a pain in the arse bug Hauwei. how did you screw that up!?!

Have you tried changing the default music app? Settings -> Manage Apps -> Default app settings -> Music
Doesn't help me with Pocket Casts, but if Spotify shows up here you might have a solution.

You can't change the default music app to Spotify. In addition, I've already tried changing it to something other than the default music app but it still does't work.
It seems like the only way to do it is to disable the stock music app - but I don't have root
Damn, you're right. Just tried it with PowerAmp with the same result. The lock screen is even worse, overlaying the Huawei buttons (that don't work) over the PowerAmp lock screen controls. The smart cover controls serve only to stop the music, and once paused you have to unlock to play again.
This may be what pushes me to root...

Even with root you won't be able to solve the stock lockscreen music button mess ... Huawei did a lot right with the Mate 7 and with EMUI, but they also have a lot of silly bugs that can drive you crazy ...

Thanks for that. I do agree - there is a lot in EMUI that I would normally root to implement - and this is sadly something we will have to live with, for now. Thankfully Pocket Casts monitors the buttons on my Nokia Monster headphones, and that's how I pause/unpause anyway.
Does anyone know of a forum we can voice our concerns on? Perhaps a feedback mechanism that Huawei monitors...
UPDATE: I found a solution for this dilemma. You'll need root though. The music player controls in the lockscreen can actually be used to control ANY currently running music app and even show title and album cover. HOWEVER, you'll have to UNINSTALL the Huawei Music app from the system folder, which is what you need root for. Once the Huawei Music app is gone (remember: UNINSTALLED, NOT frozen), the fixed link between the lockscreen controls and the stock music player are gone.
Sweet. Gives me a good reason to root. Now to go find that thread...
[EDIT]
Damn, looks like my firmware has been updated beyond what works for a live root solution.

BL unlocking is a bit quirky, but you can always revert back to the stock BL after flashing CWM. Rooting once you have unlocked your BL is easy-peasy.
You can disable the Music app out right i do this via adb shell using the following command.
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.android.mediacenter

This can be done without root as it only uninstalls from the user not the phone so factory reset will get the app back.
Make sure you reboot after to make it take effect.

[App Mod Request] Google Play Music All Access Streaming

Hi everyone!
I wanted to check in and see if anyone knows that it may be possible to get Play Music on our speaker sporting watches at least with All Access streaming as now we have all the tools to do so including wifi and speaker support and would love to be able to stop having to sync specific albums to the storage all the time to use it. This would be a pretty popular app and I would definitely pay for one like this.
Anyone else think they would enjoy a mod or app like this to play music. I think spotify can do this on the watch but I don't have a subscription to spotify and wanna stick with my google play music. :highfive:
I am currently on a Huawei Watch.
So, a quick off the cuff maybe may be in order...
Here is why...
First, those of us without speakers may not miss out on this either what with full Bluetooth support already here. ...
Second, we can already install apps using adb. We can also install those appsm to specific folders. This is easier with watches thatmplkug in through USB, but all wear watches support adb so installing the Google software is possible. We can probably install play music directly.
Third, though our watches do not all have native direct wifi support, many do, and I am guessing it is going to be supported by the 1.4 OS. However, even if it is not, if you install an app in your /system folder, it can access wifi directly as it needs.
Fourth, and here is where the good news ends... Google play music is not a stand alone app. It relies on Google play services, and they are to say the least, complicated. We have them on the watch to communicate to the phone, but not the full version. So, I have no idea how well the app will install, let alone work. Likewise, Google only allows developers to access certain libraries and play music has not released any (to my knowledge) for Wear other than the typical hooks for controlling your music.
So, all of this adds up to a maybe...
