Today HTC's got a 40% off sale for the M9, the second they've had in recent weeks, so it looks like they are really trying to move it. I have an A9 and like it pretty well, but at $390 (US), how do users that have had both feel the A9 stacks up. I'm coming from the M7 and am enjoying the camera upgrade and better screen, but miss the speakers and HDMI out, though not enough to spend and extra $250 on the M9 at full price.
I'm following the threads on the camera over on the M9 forums and people are doing cool things, so I'm torn on returning this for the M9 on sale.
How do people that have made the jump feel?

I prefer my M9. The A9 is VERY cool and I like it a lot, but just not as much as my M9. The A9 fingerprint scanner is extremely cool, but that's about the only thing I can think of that I like more. I prefer sense on the M9 and I know that custom roms will probably come to the A9, but there aren't any yet so the best you can do as fast a customizing is to root. The custom rom I use on my M9 is pretty close to stock, but has some nice tweaks that I've gotten used to.
I haven't tried the camera on the A9, but the M9 is good enough for my purposes (snapshots and videos of the kid). I also haven't tested battery life, but the M9 isn't very good in that regard, so I'm expecting the A9 to be about the same.
Marshmallow seems cool, but it's coming to the M9 by year end, so that shouldn't be much of a factor.
Are there any specific questions you want me to answer? I have both devices here next to me.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have anything specific, just wondering what people feel. For me, the two big features I miss are stereo speakers and HDMI out. Neither of those are worth a bunch to me, but I miss them, especially when traveling. But at the same price...
That said, I like Sense and don't have much stomach for ROMs any more (too many late nights trying to restore my phone). The speed of M9 is meaningless to me, my M7 is still fast enough, though the bump in RAM in the A9 has been welcome.
The big one is the camera. I see what people are doing over on the M9 forums in the camera thread and the M9 camera is clearly better than it was first reviewed, but most of those great pictures seem to be lots of tweaking and attention. Do you feel the A9 has the better camera for "day to day" use?
It's not that I'm unhappy with the A9, I'm just eyeing the deal for what is ostensibly a "better" phone wondering if it's worth switching. I expect I'm not the only one wondering what the comparison is.

I haven't taken a single picture with the A9. The M9 camera is fine. It's definitely not spectacular. Those guys in the M9 camera thread recommend to not touch the screen in auto mode (to select a focus point) so sometimes the camera doesn't focus on the subject if your subject is not obvious (or centered). In low light, you definitely have to try to keep your phone steady to get the best results.
If you like the A9, the i don't think you should get an M9. It's not necessarily better than the A9, it's just different with different strengths ans weaknesses. I much prefer the M9, but i'm sure others much prefer the A9.
A9 camera is better than the M9 IMO, I have both. But still sucks compared to the iPhone..so yeah...Plus, I like the look/feel of the new A9 over the M9, size/weight etc.just hoping for VZW support sooner than later, and some custom ROMs as well.
I'd worked around all these crappy camera issues by just getting a Sony QX-100 instead. Now I don't have to care except for the crappy Sony WiFi issues.

Why go for the Sony QX-100 when you could have gotten a Sony RX100, forgone any viewfinder lag, added a flash and several other features, and still had kept the nifty remote viewfinder in case that sort of thing is important to you?

Yup, that's why I solved that with a Mk4 of it.
My point is that we can get ahead of the smartphone camera race, if we really cared. Selecting a camera based on a smartphone is fairly pointless to me since phones are so "disposable" and varying quality these days.
A9 camera is better IMO. LIke the looks/feel of the A9, plus the price was right...but alas, no VZW support anytime soon...need to go back to cricket/att in 12 months...vzw was a mistake.
Here's a difference that is giving me cause to pause and consider returning the A9.
I'm not a video gamer so normally I ignore those type of performance ratings when phones are reviewed/compared. However, on a whim I picked up a free Google Cardboard from VZW last week. I put my M9 into it and had a great time experimenting with the concept. It was a generally entertaining experience.
Then, this week, my red A9 showed up. Yeah I can't use it on VZW yet but that didn't stop me from playing with it. Well, wouldn't ya know, the same Google Cardboard things that I played around with on the M9 performed poorer on the A9. Notably poorer. The part I'm talking about is around panning the image to and fro using the demonstration app. I suspect that this is due to the 3D rendered nature of the demo. The image, while panning, stutters noticeably on the A9.
This is the first phone I've had in a long time that wasn't running a Snapdragon 800 series processor and other top end components. I guess the M9's better graphics engine is coming into play. Bummer, because the A9's OIS is an attractive feature the M9 lacks. The fingerprint reader works fine but I wish the placement was on the back like my Nexus 5X. Other than that, I can't find many differences or have many complaints about the A9 vs the M9. But this one thing with Google Cardboard could be foreshadowing of something else I'll bump into down the road so i have to hurry up and make the decision on whether or not to keep it.

I'm a nexus 5 owner. I'm considering getting a nexus 5x or an A9. Also considering just replacing my black 16 GB nexus 5 (that has a cracked screen) with a red 32gb nexus 5 since I love this phone so much.
What are your thoughts? I love the size of them all and all of their displays. The A9 is by far the best looking. Batteries are all about the same. N5 camera is worst of the 3. Fingerprint readers on the 5x and a9. Price of N5 is dirt cheap and the A9 is a little steep. 3gb ram on a9. 5x has the best cpu and I'm a big fan of nexus 4 and 5.
I'm torn.
Plus this forum is not showing much promise for development. Honestly, root is all I need, but it would still be a bonus.

I have a Nexus 5X, a One M9 and the One A9. I'm all One A9. Performance seems to be on par with the M9 and better compared to the 5X. The camera quality is better than the M9 and seems on par with the 5X.

Find it hard to believe better performance than the N5x considering internal differences. I've seen the A9 get bogged down with maps open and in background... Also saw it dropping frames while gaming where the 5x doesn't. I can understand it being on par with the m9 but only because the ui is more optimized.
I wish I could make the A9 and 5x mate... Give me a 32gb, metal, iPhone looking device with microsd support, 3gb ram, SD 808 CPU, and 5x display. Ugh

So are there specific daily tasks where the m9 shows the 810 issues? They say it is a lot better with last updates but I don't have one and here in Italy it's almost absent in the market.
I had an M9 and G4 and now A9, well the A9 is superior to both!
The screen doesn't suffer from poor viewing angles like on M9.
Sound quality with earphones is thousands miles better than G4 and slighty better than M9.
Camera is better than M9 for sure but not as good as G4 because of the poor dynamic light
Design wise it's finally different than M7 and M8 while very sexy and keeping the metal body spirit.
Battery is the same on all 3 devices.
UI speed on A9 is faster than M9, it's so fast that it feels like a liquid UI
The only thing the M9 has more is the wide custom Sense roms available, but the A9 will have a good one soon.
So yes the A9 is the way to go!
I also have both A9 and M9 and here is my response to your comments
The screen doesn't suffer from poor viewing angles like on M9.
- M9 does NOT have poor viewing angles. Don't make people believe on this.
Sound quality with earphones is thousands miles better than G4 and slighty better than M9.
- Probably. But then again, M9 is both EXCELLENT in speaker and earphone tests unlike the A9 who has tinny sound coming from the mono speaker.
Camera is better than M9 for sure but not as good as G4 because of the poor dynamic light
- Agreed. The M9 could've been considered GOOD if not for the lack of OIS. (Note: slight hand movement WILL make your photos blurry especially in indoor/low lighting so the 20mp is technically USELESS if that happens.)
Design wise it's finally different than M7 and M8 while very sexy and keeping the metal body spirit.
- and to those people who don't like iOS but would like to have a similar design to an iPhone 6
Battery is the same on all 3 devices.
- A9 is only good at standby. Use it normally and it WILL drain faster than M9.
UI speed on A9 is faster than M9, it's so fast that it feels like a liquid UI
- Disagree. A9 stutters esp when multitasking (switching from an app to another) while the M9 is a SOLID performer (just like the M8 and M7).
The only thing the M9 has more is the wide custom Sense roms available, but the A9 will have a good one soon.
So yes the A9 is the way to go!
- It's the way to go if you prefer to have:
1. A better camera experience
2. Fingerprint scanner
3. iPhone-esque design
4. Lighter and slimmer body
5. AMOLED screen
Cons:
1. Slower performance than the M9
2. No boomsound speaker
3. Perceived as an iPhone clone to some (I definitely argue with people who are telling me it's HTC who imitated. grrrr)
Well, I guess it would be fine for me. I'd rather have a smooth interface than a roughly fast one, but it's just me. I definitely understand who needs a fast phone and can sacrifice some of the ux. Anyone owning the red one to tell me how it looks?
Im struggeling between oneplus 2 and htc one a9.. what do you guys think is the best choice?
the snapdragon 617 makes me thoughtful...
Why I want t switch from S8? It is because of micro lags of interface. And it is the only issue of S8. It isn't butter smooth as in iPhone (iOS isn't for me = don't want iPhone).
What is important for me? Camera, butter smooth interface, battery life. Now I'm using S8. This is best phone I've ever had (every galaxy S, some flagships from Sony, Motorola, iPhone 6S,...). What is annoying - there's such good HW but SW has some flaws. Main is that it has no fluidity. So I think that my only solution is to buy Pixel or U11. I prefer U11 because in Poland Pixel is officialy not available and it is too expensive (iPhone 7 128 is cheaper than Pixel and I have Apple warranty, service, and resellers here). I know that S8 has better display and looks great overall. I don't care about lack of headphone jack - I'm using only BT (S8's AKGs are still packed).
I'm afroaid of a little bit overexposed pictures compared to S8 and that the camera is slower than in Samsung's device.
Could you help me answering this question - is U11 worth it?

the camera overexposes a little just a little but you get much better details in shadows
the slowness only in low light to improve the picture quality
I suggest that you get the 6gb ram version not the 4gb
as it is much more future proof

Coming from having the s6 and 7 the lag was unacceptable. This phone flies compared to those two. I don't have an s8 but I do know that every year they say they have toned down TouchWiz and it just is never true. I had over 140 samsung apps frozen on my phone. I still can't scroll through settings without it lagging..
As far as the camera I don't notice the underexposure. To me it's better then the s7 and that was a good camera.

I had Samsung S6 and iPhone 7 plus. So i think i can some idea what you are getting into.
The UI is butter smooth, a lot lot better than Samsung and as good as iOS. I didn't see any shutter lag till date its been a month now. As for the battery i constantly get between 8 to 9 hours of SOT which is really great. And i agree with comments about getting a 6GB version because apps now a days needs more RAM. The display is a matter of choice so i wont comment there. As for the camera even though it doesn't have a dual setup this is probably the best smartphone camera i used. I didn't notice any over exposed pictures. In low light i noticed it doesn't take a bit longer. Also there is Google Modded camera which few folks here love and considers better than the stock one. I personally like the stock camera.
I hope that answers your question.

I came from Samsung S7 Edge and my sis has s8 plus. Go for the HTC. The camera is pretty freaking awesome. There have been several updates to the camera software since the phones release and the metering is a lot better. Plus you can use pro mode if you want (which is a lot simpler than most people think, if you are worried about overexposure, just pull the ISO down a little) Here are a few pics I've taken with the phone.
Couple night time shots and one more daytime
Here's a couple more samples. Nightime shots on this camera are the best I've ever seen. I added one more daytime shot with a clear pic of the sky which should lead to overblown exposure, but HTC has dialed it in quite a bit more. The phone is ultra buttery smooth and in my opinion better than Samsung and I used both the s6 and s7 edge. In my opinion the S6 had the best camera Samsung ever used, even if the reviews say the s7 and 8 are better, the s6 reigns supreme in my experience.
Daytime pic didn't upload in last post
Daytime pic upload failed in last post. Here's another dusk shot too.

I mean 2 years future proofing
the s8 is not even a year old and is a waste of specs in multitasking and day to day usage
so what I am saying is 6gb will be of a good value for two years then they will start switching to 8 gb
Coming from S8+ it is absolutely without any doubt worth it! I sold it because of the lag! hehehe so we're on the same page here! I really couldn't bare the lags! so I sold it for $700 and bought a brand new solar red 6GB U11 for $650! I owned HTC m7-8 and 10 so I'm familiar with what HTC can offer but the sonic active noise isolation headphone they offer blow my head! it was extremely good! and for free! Samsung earphones is an absolute rubbish compare to this! The only thing I miss is the crazy battery life used to have on S8+, from 8-9 hrs up to 11hrs easily, with U11 I get on fully active 2 sims with data no wifi 5-6hrs SOT not bad but not good either, BUT S8+ has way slower charging time compared to U11. U11 is so fast that in like 15min I can get 40% battery! Camera on U11 is definitely better in taking photos but by very small margin while videos on the S8+ from my "own" experience is much much better. so to sum up, Pros to every device:
U11:
- Screen! yes call me weirdo but LCD screens are sharper! and don't let anyone fool you it is VERY noticeable!
- Sound (speaker + amazing headphone experience)
- Camera (photos)
- Most importantly, the most responsive device I ever held, period!
S8+:
- 20-30% more battery life than U11.
- Camera (videos)

Hi awesome XDA community, not sure which one to order, £350 for the U11 or £450 for the Oneplus 5T, one of the main points is the camera, I've heard wonders about this camera in low light, which is what I'll use it the most, for this Christmas pictures... I know there is a big price difference, but I'm not taking that into account, just wondering if you guys had the chance today to order one of these two, which one would you guys order and why.
Can't wait to read your opinions, thanks everyone =D

And the screen is awful
Well I think that's a no brainer. The only thing that U11 lacks is the 18:9 screen but for a 100 less there is no competition. U11 beats OP5T camera in low light situation by a mile and that's the main feature you will be using.
If you were considering the Oneplus 5T as an alternative, consider also the ZTE Axon 7. But as others have said, the U11's camera will blow both phones out of the water with its low light superiority.
If you care about the system experience, do not use OnePlus. Because it will certainly disappoint you, such as the recent exposure of their fake 8.0 system (actually 7.1).
https://www.zhihu.com/question/263948313
PS: Chinese content you may not read it, but as a Chinese I hate their practice.
Just had the same decision to make myself, and went with the U11 for it's camera. I've had Oneplus phones in the past and the cameras are never as good as the hype. Definitely not disappointed so far!
the 1080p pentile screen just killed the 5t. (66% of true 1080p resolution on a 6' screen)
I've actually had both and they are both amazing phones.
I've stuck with the U11 because the camera is better and battery life is I a big step up as well.
The OP5 is a bit thinner and OLED screen is nice to have.

Food for thought, or perspective...the mere fact that this thread has less than 10 posts can tell you it's pretty specific for a few devices. I wouldn't worry about it.
Edit: I didn't realize that this wasn't the horizontal lines thread. Either way, I wouldn't worry about it. It isn't a widespread problem either way.

Thanks everyone for the replies and read till the end so I went with the Mate 10, got it at a unbelievable price of £350 on eBay, in very good condition, so got it for the Xmas period and I must say, very impressed with the Mate 10, great camera, screen and battery, impressive headphone jack output quality too, but still the thought of the U11 still hangs, so I sold my Mate 10 yesterday and I have the U11 on the way now, it will take about a week to get it, but I'm sure it will be worth it =) I'll give my impressions on the camera compared to the Mate 10, when I get it.
Thanks again everyone and have happy new year.
For what it's worth, I constantly am switching between phones and always keep two on me. It's not the 5t, but the two I've been stuck on for a while are the OnePlus 5 and U11. The U11 is my main device and has survived all others that could have potentially taken its place. Among others, S8+, Pixel 2 XL, Mate 9 & Mate 9 Pro, Xiaomi Mi Mix 2. The one I miss the most honestly is the Mate 9. Anyways, I'd imagine if the two best devices out in my mind are the 5 & U11, then surely it would now be the 5t & U11. You really can't go wrong with either, but the U11 for me is unmatched. The Mate 10 has been in my sights ever since letting the Mate 9 go, can't wait to try it as well. Hell of a find on eBay btw...lol.
Its no contest. U11 wins hands down.
Ask on HTC section - answer: get U11
Ask on Oneplus section of forum; get Oneplus 5T
I don't have 5T but I'm heavily thinking about buying one.
What I suggest you? It depends, which device you had before?
Before U11 I was using Oneplus 3, well I still have.
And I don't feel like big upgrade expect camera.
So, few my thoughts:
Right after using U11 for week:
- yes camera is much better, 3D audio and audio focus while recording video is great and very useful.
-same screen size but U11 is bigger: wider and more thick - less comfortable in hand.
- screen does have better dynamic range, showing more in shadows, much sharper. But it's not as bright as on Oneplus or 5T.
- Audio quality on headphones with this dongle is much better than on smartphones without special audio features (features mean additional DAC/AMP like in LG V30)
- Performance is very good but don't see upgrade over my Oneplus 3 which is still one of the fastest devices, maybe animations are smoother and Facebook app start little faster.
- Edge sense is more useful than I thought. For example, short squeeze slide down notifications (I don't need to reach top of screen). Long squeeze to turn ON flashlight, even if screen is off - well quickest way and very handy.
Now few annoying quirks:
- I don't understand why fingerprint scanner is so small. I often miss click trying go back to home screen. It's not as fast as on Oneplus devices.
- You can't skip/minimize incoming call while you using phone, home button doesn't work. What the hell? Is this a Nokia 3310?
- you need to set automatic battery saving for minimum (5%) or turn this completely off because it will blink in your face (ye it's annoying on night), even when you are using phone.
- if you want to root, change ROMs etc. It's much more complicated and you will lose warranty.
IMO Don't buy U11 4GB version if you are heavy user. I'm using 6GB version and it's great like one my Oneplus but, 4GB for heavy multitasking it's not enough nowadays.

HTC U11 is IP67 water and dust resistant while 5T has none. U11 has a QuadHD screen while 5T does only with the lower 1080p.
U11 has a microSD expansion slot which 5T does not have.
Ye, Oneplus doesn't have micro SD. But still have plant of storage:, 64 and 128GB version. More Important it's same over world. HTC have strange fragmentation, single sim, dual sim, dual sim with 6/128 GB in few regions. Many software versions depends on CID its very confusing for someone who didn't had HTC device before (I mean whole thing if you want root or custom ROM: CID, MID, ruu, unlocking bootloader void warranty, S-off)
About waterproof:
Did you read HTC warranty statement? I would be worried to use it inside pool or shower.
"
Normal wear and tear may decrease the water and dust resistance over time.

OnePlus is known to not respect your privacy. I'm fine with OEM's collecting data, given they make the practice known and give users the option to opt out.

Ive owned both 5T and changed it for the U11.... Awesome speakers, much better display on U11... AMOLed is too saturated.. Camera is Much better on U11.... except the noise on images thats cropped up since the September camera app update.. Hmmm... but it is 100x better camera than the 5T...
However, 5T is better for Headphone Jack and more modern UI... the U11 Sense UI is looking very dated... some aspects from the M8 are still here... but on the whole.. the U11 is fast, practical and very reliable..

On some levels Id say OP7 pro is better for sure. Faster internal storage, faster overall user experience, faster updates, no camera hole, 90 hz screen. Its definitely cheaper as well if that matters
But the cameras (front and rear) won't match the S10, no external storage, only 256gb of internal storage compared to 512 and 2tb on S10. No wireless charging, no IP rating (bucket of water hardly counts) lol.
It will certainly not destroy the S10 that's for sure.
Samsung wins in the camera department by far
Now it depends what do you prefer

Yes I agree, The camera part of the Oneplus is a bit weak compare to the S10 series.
TL;DR: Go for OnePlus 7 Pro. Easy choice.
Personally I think Samsung's flagship devices are a waste of money. Before you read on! I'm not fully updated on all of what I'm going to complain about, so it might've changed!
To me, Samsung has nothing unique to offer, yet their devices are almost as expensive as an iPhone. Which in my opinion is insane. Samsung offers a ****ty version of Android that looks **** (think it actually looks better now than it did before), full of bloat; it doesn't even let you uninstall Instagram. Personally I'm not a huge fan of their self-made apps either. In my opinion, it would be better to spend that money on an iPhone, which at least offers something unique (being iOS).
When it comes to OnePlus. They seem to have a great vision when it comes to how they do things. One of the things I really like with them, is that you're allowed to root the phone, and you won't void warranty. Though, to lots of people, rooting isn't very major. However, their version of Android is very nice. It is close to stock Android, has close to no bloat. The bloat that it has, you can uninstall (with root). Their hardware is very nice, and now more than ever with their new OnePlus 7 Pro (OP7P). Then the price you pay is less than any other phone with same specs.
When it comes to camera, there might be better options. However, OP7P has a very decent camera, and when someone ports the Pixel camera app to work on OP7(P), it will (probably) improve the camera greatly.
I own both the 7 Pro and the S10+
This is coming from someone who hasn't owned a Samsung since the Note 4 and has owned almost every OnePlus device.
While the 7 Pro is a really good phone the S10+ is just better. The only things better on the 7 Pro is the screen scrolling, OnePlus gestures (best Android gestures hands down), UFS 3.0 storage, and screen off gestures.
The fingerprint reader is faster on the 7 Pro but the fingerprint reader on S10+ works when your fingers are wet, and you don't need to wake the screen to use it.
I do like the size of the 7 Pro (I like bigger phones) but in-hand the S10+ feels better, 7 Pro is thicker than the S10+.
Samsung's new One UI is nothing like the old Touchwiz. The S10+ has so many customization option it's not even funny. I have found no reason to want to root the S10+ (coming from someone who has rooted every single phone they have owned).
7 Pro camera is ok but the camera on the S10+ is good if not great (not Pixel great).
I had the s10 and returned it. The finger print sensor on it was not working consistently. Samsung has too much bloatware for me and didn't see a major difference from my pixel 2 xl. Only good thing about Samsung is Samsung pay. Op 7 so far I'm loving it. It depends on what you are looking for. I don't really care for camera and I'm not worried about getting some water on the phone. Also i don't use wireless charging. The specs on op7 are ridiculous for the price. Plus op7 will get the latest updates including Q faster than Samsung phones.
I have a one question.which the op7 display quality compare the s10+?

OP7 is water proof though, they just didn't care to pay for the IP-certification.
I have the ceramic 10+ it is lovely but I will say that the 7 pro looks terrific, Oxygen OS and the fast updates are tempting and I am not expecting Q anywhere near the 10+ until 2020. The camera edge is probably still just with the 10+ and the expandable storage too but other than that the 7 pro is a compelling package for sure, well almost…..
….For me though an always on display and wireless charging are important features, I could probably do without wireless charging but with them marketing it as a pro model it really should have been included IMO. As for the always on display with so many OEMs offering this now that there is no reason for me to consider OP until they do too. I get that some people do not rate this feature but me it has fast become a must-have.

How does the 10+ camera compare to your Pixel 2 XL? I've just come from a Pixel 2 XL to the 7 Pro and the difference is huge, there is a lot of hope riding on GCam turning this camera around - i've got a 15 day window to return the 7 Pro and it will be going back if there isn't progress on the camera front (and then possibly going the S10+ route if the camera is any better).

Well the main sensor is pretty good on the 7 pro, we don't know about the other sensors (wide, tele) though. It might get better in the future, because the main sensor is pretty good and the weakest part seems to be the software for now. Also, you can't film with the wide angle lens on the 7 pro, and we don't know if that will be possible in the future. That's the reason why I will wait 1 more month until I decide which phone I will buy. The worst case: I have to wait until Google releases their pixel 4 because I can't stand the design of the pixel 3 XL.
I have the S10+ and have a OP7 in the box right now, probably switching over.
S10+ still lags if not rebooted every couple of days for me.
Exynos camera is meh and so is standby time.
I like the S10 but it didn't live up to the hype, want a phone I don't have to baby
Snapdragon is a different story from what I've read
The OS and notchless screen are huge selling points for me.
Won't really miss wireless charging too much, don't use the SD slot as I have 2 Sims.
Agree, being shortchanged with the exynos has left a sour taste this year.
I'm just not sure I could lose an AOD, especially as the is no led. I tried before and it bugged the hell out of me. I am though still very tempted!

I caved and purchased the OP 7pro so now have both and 2 weeks in and I am conflicted on the OP7 vs the S10+.
The OP is a beast and I have found it more of a burden to carry and use than my S10+, it also makes an iPhone Xs max look small! I have also missed the always on display, wireless charging a little but no big deal. I’d also say that outside the extra brightness of the Samsung makes it easier to see, again no biggy. I prefer pretty much everything else about the OP7 Pro though and one thing I have noticed (and have posted this over on the S10 forum) is how much better the radio performance is on the OP7, I think this may be more down to the S10+ being bad than the OP7 being really good but at my work for example the S10 clings to 1 bar of 4G and often drops to 3G whereas the OP7 is rock solid on 3 or 4 bars of 4G all day. I have also installed Gcam and it works really well.
I won’t comment too much on the FPS, both work ok with the OP being quicker and the S10 being maybe more convenient on account of not having to wake the screen first. I do though still prefer a rear mounted sensor like the Pixel which is IMO just a better, quicker and easier option.
Re the AOD I read that OP have said they are working on this but are still citing battery concerns, given how good and polished oxygen OS is I just do not get why OnePlus are finding it so hard to provide a proper always on display? Lots of other OEM’s have managed it, LG even managed it on an LCD screen. Anyway fingers crossed they are at least on the case now.
So overall it is a seriously good device, I do though wish it was just not quite so big.

Why does it have to be unique, I don't care about that? I care about it being a good phone, a well rounded one at that. It's hard to pack a lot of features into a cheaper phone, and often results in some corner cutting and that's what happened. The pop up camera is a DISASTER and all over China one plus has had to offer an apology and a slightly extended warranty, I'd never trust that and it collects a whole lot of dust around the top of the camera port when sitting in your pocket and such, regardless of the waterproof red ring on the top.
One UI is great, I bought the s10+ and never received Instagram, and not much bloatware at all, oneUI has almost no issues besides Bixby, which Samsung even lets you disable. OneUI has been garbage, but its great in this new phone, just look at what most reviewers have to say. The s10+ is way more well rounded then the op7 pro, which has some standout features but some pitfalls top. 90HZ is great but still isn't a huge difference and the battery life is quite poor on the OP 7 pro, I went to t-mobile and didn't notice much of a difference if at all, I did notice a difference with the 120hz razor phone though, maybe if you slow the phone down by 5x the 90 hz will have a big difference.
And you're acting like iPhones are a similar value, the hardware of iPhones in general doesn't even compare to Samsung, they're GARBAGE. Unlocked right now is a s10+ and a XR for around the same price, 880p LCD vs 1440p 4k OLED display, 18 watt vs 5 watt charger, 4100 mah battery vs 3200 mah, wide angle + telephoto lens, no giant notch and a bigger screen, slightly curved edges, headphone Jack, expandable storage, way more ram AND storage. Gtfo saying these phones are close in that regard, apple is only for iOS, why would you rather buy an iPhone. Without nova launcher, Samsung offers LOADS of customization. Also real world pricing is 29$ for a OP 7 pro a month with t-mobile which is the only seller in the US, sprint is 25$ for a s10+ with upgrade plan and all, which makes a lot more sense then spending way more to buy a phone outright vs only paying half price then upgrading to the latest and greatest phone of your choosing, keep in mind most people use carrier plans so this is the more realistic example. Oh and no wireless charging with the OP 7 pro, IP rating, headphone Jack, expandable storage, etc.

Biased much?
Both are about the same price here so not an obvious choice..
i mostly care bout holy trinity of great cam+great batt+updates so one would argue its a no-brainer but still considering asus for some reason..
why did you go for Z6 instead of pixel?
Honestly, between the two the perceived value is the biggest thing for me. The Pixel 3a XL costs £470 vs the Zenfone 6's £500 price tag.
The Pixel has: OLED screen, expected quicker/longer support, great camera.
The Zenfone 6 has: More powerful chipset, more ram, larger screen, FM radio, 128gb vs 64gb (at mentioned prices), expandable storage, better front cam, generally better battery life ( according to GSMArena, only loses in video playback).
If the Pixel 3a XL was priced below £370 instead of £470 I'd probably get it and deal with that tiny storage for the sake of OLED, camera and quick updates. The current price just seems way too high even though 90% of the time I likely won't notice the chipset difference it's nice to have the option for things like emulation or just brute forcing against slowdown over the years.
I'm at the choice between 3a XL @ £450 VS Z6 @ £370 so..
Also "life" drain test like this makes it not an easy choice

So do you think gcam app can get as any closer to the pixel quality. It is the only concern I can think off work Z6

Camera, back cam shall be a bit(small may be) better than Z6 with gcam.
Camera selfie, DxO score for selfie is highest for Z6. If selfie is important, Z6 beat pixels/samsung due to flip cam.
Z6 beat others in battery life too (min 2 days and reach 3+ days for medium usage). Better processor than pixel 3a as u know already. Trust me, you will never be disappointed with Z6. I moved from s10+ to Z6 for better battery and selfie cam and I am happy with it.
So I actually got the Pixel 3a XL despite my original comment because I couldn't keep waiting. The camera is great (rear cam for standard shots seem better than the Z6) but you lose out on wide-angle, so got to think how much you'll miss that. Battery life is pretty good. Probably a lil bit worse than Zen 6 in most real world use but I get 9 hours SoT (mix of reddit, discord, maps, youtube, snapchat, whatsapp). I haven't had any issues with ram or speed like I was concerned, if you don't care about games the 670 will probably feel about the same as the 855 99% of the time.
If I could have the choice to switch to the Zenfone 6 free of charge now... I'm not 100% sure I would take it over the bit better rear camera and guaranteed and fast updates. The Zenfone 6 is definitely the better value + power, but for my casual use I don't think it matters that much to me now I have it. That said, if I owned neither and had both in front of me I'd probably buy the Zen 6 just because of the better value
E: Biggest downside is not being able to keep films and shows on storage because of the measly 64gb :'(
I ordered Z6 but after handling it for few hours sent it back and waiting for 3a XL to be delivered.
After so many positive reviews on the hinge mechanism I was disappointed how flimsy and rattle it turned out to be.
Another issue that I guess was decisive was the aosmark - I got burned twice with LG promising timely and long term support for their products (even opened dedicated r&d center) Its ok first few months up until new model comes out and support for the previous years one gets slower and disappears completely. Maybe it wont be that way this time but figured I don't have stomach for that.
