Are Intel Sofia units any different than PX5?
I mean is the som interchangeable?
Can I just remove the Intel and put a PX5?

No Way, totally different processors: ARM vs Intel.
Yes I know that the CPU and the ram is on the som
Can we just remove the Intel son and put a PX5 in its place..? They are supposed to be Mtcd's after all

so the motherboards are completely different design i guess..
thanks
Interesting to note though, I bought a HA PX5 unit a while back and the mainboard is labelled HA-Sofia.
I wouldn't be surprised if they were more similar than people think.

Intel Sofia board is soldered to MTCD Mainboard, while PX5 has a connector. This means that Intel Sofia and PX5 are totally different and not compatible.
Intel Sofia MTCD is not upgradable because of this soldering, also, these many solderings (which looks line castellated vias) can break easily (thermal expansion, vibrations, etc) and could cause functional issues, and to fix it, Joying is instructing customers to re-solder them . This is the main reason why I discarded the purchasing of the Intel Sofia and waited for the PX5.

They have switched away from the 5009, which you are correct in stating the use of castellated vias. The 6012 SoM now uses standard pin header connector.
Intel Sofia SOM

Has a connector like PX3 or PX5.
so we just need someone to try it

Heatsync https://goo.gl/photos/hLRuZUiGBt1aSsyK6
Juuust kidding haha but I did installthe fan from that heatsync sucking air into the unit directly off my A/C lol
I know it's a very old thread but I have an Xtrons Head unit with Intel Sofia and changed the core board to a px3 1gb (same connector). It works but you will have no wifi or Bluetooth because both of them are on the sofia core board and not on the Mainboard. So you have to use a stick for it.
HI All
Looking to upgrade my head unit, I have a 11-RQ0364E (VW fit) sold by pumpkin,RK3188 with 1Gb ram. Any recommendations ?
Thanks
Hi All,
Looking to buy a PX5 board to upgrade my HU as I'm wanting to eventually put Oreo on it. Any chance anyone has one their selling?
so you're looking for second hand? I don't think people would be selling as it's the best board you can have for a PX unit unless someone is selling the 2GB RAM only version and upgraded to the 4GB RAM version?
You can get a new board here http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/Ey3vfiy

I'm in the UK sadly, would probably cost a fair bit to post!
Im interested. How much?
I am looking at the "WITSON ANDROID 8.0 PX5 Octa-Core +4GB RAM +32GB Flash Coreboard For Android DVD (For Android 8.0 V5XXX only) " on Aliexpress.com.
Is this module usually a drop in replacement for the RK3188 MTCD units?
Hi All;
The Joying Unit tested is:
SKU: JY-TQ115N8G-H
Ship From: Chinese Warehouse
CPU: UIS7862 12nm Dual ARM Cortex-A75 + Six ARM A55
Ram: LPDDR4 8GB Rom: EMMC 128GB
MCU Version: 2021.06.25 11:37:30 JY_53_C63L-G23P48F64_VER:1.0
This tip may work with other Joying Units as well.
After some brief testing, I can confirm that PS5 Controllers work with JOYING Units via plug-in-play USB. Other controllers tested were PS4, XBOX ONE, and XBOX SERIES X. Due to Bluetooth constraints, PS5 controllers do not work wirelessly. As I do more controller testing, I will add them to this post.
Happy Gaming!
