Intel sofia/px5 som interchangeable? - MTCD Android Head Units Q&A

Are Intel Sofia units any different than PX5?
I mean is the som interchangeable?
Can I just remove the Intel and put a PX5?

No Way, totally different processors: ARM vs Intel.

Yes I know that the CPU and the ram is on the som
Can we just remove the Intel son and put a PX5 in its place..? They are supposed to be Mtcd's after all

so the motherboards are completely different design i guess..
thanks

Interesting to note though, I bought a HA PX5 unit a while back and the mainboard is labelled HA-Sofia.
I wouldn't be surprised if they were more similar than people think.

Intel Sofia board is soldered to MTCD Mainboard, while PX5 has a connector. This means that Intel Sofia and PX5 are totally different and not compatible.
Intel Sofia MTCD is not upgradable because of this soldering, also, these many solderings (which looks line castellated vias) can break easily (thermal expansion, vibrations, etc) and could cause functional issues, and to fix it, Joying is instructing customers to re-solder them . This is the main reason why I discarded the purchasing of the Intel Sofia and waited for the PX5.

They have switched away from the 5009, which you are correct in stating the use of castellated vias. The 6012 SoM now uses standard pin header connector.

Intel Sofia SOM

Has a connector like PX3 or PX5.

so we just need someone to try it

Sophia https://goo.gl/photos/entEusBb1MikKujJA
https://goo.gl/photos/rpFMnAJDYjh9izGx7
Heatsync https://goo.gl/photos/hLRuZUiGBt1aSsyK6
Juuust kidding haha but I did installthe fan from that heatsync sucking air into the unit directly off my A/C lol

I know it's a very old thread but I have an Xtrons Head unit with Intel Sofia and changed the core board to a px3 1gb (same connector). It works but you will have no wifi or Bluetooth because both of them are on the sofia core board and not on the Mainboard. So you have to use a stick for it.

Do you have a video link on how to replace a px3 with a px5?
There is a video online from Daisita/hotaudio on youtube etc.
It's not even 5 minutes work.
I got multiple offers in my PM.
I spent 100,- euro's on it (RAM + soldering work). I won't get 100,- back, I know. But make me an offer.
I got a px3 with 2gb 1.6GHz already.. that is why i asked about a video tutorial.. wanted to see how easy or hard it is to replace.

It is easy. Just some screws. Did it yesterday. Effort may differ depending on your HU. I had to take the screen completely off to change the board, but on other HUs you can simply dismantle the top cover and change it.
That is good to know, thank you for the information.
How much performance can you gain with this 2GB ram compared to the 1GB board? Interested (and local ).

Looking for a PX5 Board

Hi All,
Looking to buy a PX5 board to upgrade my HU as I'm wanting to eventually put Oreo on it. Any chance anyone has one their selling?
so you're looking for second hand? I don't think people would be selling as it's the best board you can have for a PX unit unless someone is selling the 2GB RAM only version and upgraded to the 4GB RAM version?
You can get a new board here http://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/Ey3vfiy

I'm in the UK sadly, would probably cost a fair bit to post!
Im interested. How much?
I am looking at the "WITSON ANDROID 8.0 PX5 Octa-Core +4GB RAM +32GB Flash Coreboard For Android DVD (For Android 8.0 V5XXX only) " on Aliexpress.com.
Is this module usually a drop in replacement for the RK3188 MTCD units?

2Din, 10+inch, PX5, 4GB devices

I'm currently looking for a new Android headunit with these specs:
2Din,
10inch,
PX5,
4GB
I've found 3 'different' devices. They all look the same for me, that's why I wanted to ask the community, if you've got experience with those specific devices and/or any other recommendations. I know there is joying, but they are a bit more expensive.
Xtrons:
XTRONS 2 Din Universal Radio Audio 10.1" Android 8.0 Octa Core Car DVD Stereo Player Steering Wheel GPS Canbus Navigation OBD

Dasaita:
2 Din Radio Android Car Interchangeable Audio Adjustable Angle Screen Head-unit Radio recorder 10.2 inch browser PX5 octa-core

Jstmax:
10.1" Octa-Core Android 8.0 OS 2 Din Car DVD Multimedia Two Din Car Navigation GPS Double Din Car Radio with 4GB RAM 32GB ROM
http://s.aliexpress.com/YbUzYrYB?fromSns=Copy to Clipboard
Do you think those devices are all the same and I should just pick the cheapest?
Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!!!
nice finds.. i would say go with Dasaita.. just because of hotaudio's updates here on xda.. that seems tempting for me to move from their generic 7" din to that 10" monster..

I will install malaysk rom anyways, so I'm not depend on their updates. I have a dasaita in my other car and it is really good, I was just looking for a cheaper alternative.
But other than the quality of dasaitas software updates, do you think theres a difference in hardware as well?
probably would suggest xtrons if you want the cheaper price.. looks like sd card is behind display.. which is good if you want easy updates in the future

They are exactly the same. Cooling doesn't matter in this case. Just ask Joying which will fit your car better.
If I had the choice I would always go for the single-din unit if your car is not so big, as that means that the space behind your dashboard will not be too big either. With a few accessories it is really difficult to put everything in the dashboard.
Note that both units are 1024x600. For a 7" that is sufficient, but if you also have the choice for 1280x720 and you can afoord it, I would select that one.

I don't know if there is one. I suggested to look for it (if you have ..). You have now selected Universal ones. Is your car type not supported?

Hardware Development Gaming on Joying Unit

Hi All;
The Joying Unit tested is:
SKU: JY-TQ115N8G-H
Ship From: Chinese Warehouse
CPU: UIS7862 12nm Dual ARM Cortex-A75 + Six ARM A55
Ram: LPDDR4 8GB Rom: EMMC 128GB
MCU Version: 2021.06.25 11:37:30 JY_53_C63L-G23P48F64_VER:1.0
This tip may work with other Joying Units as well.
After some brief testing, I can confirm that PS5 Controllers work with JOYING Units via plug-in-play USB. Other controllers tested were PS4, XBOX ONE, and XBOX SERIES X. Due to Bluetooth constraints, PS5 controllers do not work wirelessly. As I do more controller testing, I will add them to this post.
Happy Gaming!
