I have been using Drive Syncrypt (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.semaphore.drivesyncrypt) for a while now, primarily to backup work-related documents to my Google Drive (PDFs, Power Points, etc.). My phone started running low on space so I finally purchases a micro SD card and moved all of my files there. Down side is that Drive Syncrypt doesn't read from external SD cards so I can't point it there to back stuff up.
I looked around for a way to "trick" the app so that it wouldn't see it as an external SD card, but my researched proved to be more confusing than helpful. Some suggestions included "mounting the folder as a drive" (no idea what that really means), creating a symbolic link to the folder on the SD card, etc. This is all stuff I am not well versed in.
My question is: is there a way to make it look like a folder on an external SD card is not actually residing on the SD card, allowing me to point apps like Drive Syncrypt to it for syncing purposes?

i have a 32GB SD class 4 in my phone. it's been formatted so all it has is the lost.dir (i'm on a mac)
since there are no folders there - how do i gets apps to use it? where do i put music and other files? i have podcasts and other stuff i'd like to drag over but i'm not understanding how the different apps would see it.
i can move some apps to SD card but i think it just moves them to the internal SD card.
it seems that there are 2 SD cards in the phone but no way to differentiate between the 2.
also it sometimes takes forever for the gx2 to recognize the card, its kind of annoying. is having a class 10 better for this?
I use filemanager from the market and it recognizes my external as........"_externalSD" also allows me to transfer files between the two.

When you have your phone plugged in pull down the alert bar on the top of the screen and press the "USB Connection" option. It should ask you if you want to turn USB mode on and have a picture of an Android. This will allow you to mount your internal and external sd as if they were regular flash sticks. You can then copy whatever you want to them. I also like to use drop box in combination with Astro for moving things to and from the cloud.

1. G2x has the internal sd card partitioned into 2 parts (1 for OS & apps & other for storage & apps).
2. Sd card's class does help but it is not something important until you're running a high def video.
3. Use any file explorer app (File expert etc) for copying files from Internal SD Card to External SD Card.
4. Most of the app's setting menu gives you an option to physically select the storage destination folder i.e. external sd card.

Yes, just simply copy the entire FOLDER of the particular file to your External SD Card & if in future, if u download something directly from your phone then simply just copy/paste it from your using any file manager app.

so i have the phone connected to the computer and I see 2 No Name disks. That's fine. I put a folder called music at the root level of the 32GB card. Now I find that folder in File Expert and I go to play something and it says that file isn't supported. I tried Google Music and Doubletwist. Just mp3's from a CD. are there certain settings for android i need to know about? and do i need to go to File Expert to play this music everytime? Or should I be going through doubletwist on my mac and using it like itunes?
thanks you any help, i'm pretty clueless with this aspect of android right now, trying to catch up.
also both SD cards randomly unmount themselves. is there a reason for this or a way to prevent this?

Ok. After reading your problems, here are my suggestions:
1) Copy your 32 GB SD Card files on your computer.
2) Format your 32 GB card. Replace all files back in it.
3) Stop worrying about putting certain files (pics, music) in a root folder. Simply just put any files OR folders inside the Sd card.
4) When it comes to File sharing, think of Android in the same category as Windows.

So apparently Samsung makes the skyrocket think that the usb storage is the sd card. Because of this when i tap to move an app to the sd card it moves it from system storage too usb storage. I am pretty much out of storage internally. Has anyone else had this problem or does anyone know how i can solve the problem.

I do not think that Samsung is unique. An external SD card appears as a directory in the external storage. It is rather easy to use this directory to store music, photos and videos. I have many programs and I am nowhere near tapped out in terms of storage. However, I believe that there are a number of solutions that would allow one to move applications to the external-external SD card.
Ya i was wondering if anyone had heard of a way to do this. I havent found anything yet.
If you are rooted you can probably edit the fstab file to switch the mount points of the internal and external memory. This has been done on other devices and a search should point you to directions to accomplish this.
There are negatives and positives to this approach, so read and understand what yoou are doing and the effects it will have before doing it.
I have over 80 apps installed, including two nav programs with offline maps for the US and have 1.5 GB in the user space for ap installs, 9.4 GB in the internal storage, and 11 GB free on a 32 GB external SD card (music files take up most of the used space).

I've looked around but haven't found any way to make my SD card the default storage means for my Plus. I read something on a thread about changing some code magic stuff thingie but can't find that now (of course). Not a complete noob but very, very careful. Maybe a little paranoid. So... anyone know how to designate an SD card as default storage for things like books, downloads, photos, etc?
I'm pretty sure it can't be done - Tab has enough difficulty with write permission to sd card as it is
I've never moved any apps to my SD card and strictly use it for files I've put there myself: music, photos, videos, backups. Today, I updated a few apps, after being notified from the Play Store and, once finished updating, I saw notifications that two of the apps are being moved to the SD card.
Anyone experience this? Might I have inadvertently checked a box somewhere? (I don't typically go around checking random boxes and usually know what I'm doing, but you never know.) Also, there's plenty of space left internally.

A couple of games... Highway Rider and something else I can't remember right now. And I don't understand your second question. Check my ExtSD to confirm IT is internal storage? I don't understand.

On the device there is a /sdcard and a /ex_sdcard
The sdcard is built in storage where all the hings are stored .The external sd card is the card you can add in the sd card slot. So in thinking the game is installing into the internal card sd card .
Use a file explorer like the my files app and look for a game folder .I think that app calls sd card my files1 and ex sdcard my files 2

Thanks. I understand what the SD Card and External SD card are. I just didn't understand what you were asking me. But yes, I'll check the external SD card for those files. I'd just never received that message ever, since I bought this thing in August.
I saw a question here in XDA where a person was asking how his torrent app could save downloads to the external SD card without root, in KitKat. This can actually be done, with many apps.
Surprisingly, there were no answers, except to tell him to root. That is not always the case! I've been saving and writing data to my external SD card since I got my KitKat device and, I am not rooted. I didn't know this was not a well known technique, or I would have posted this information a long time ago. I just did an internet search (to see if it was well known or not) and it came up empty! But, if this method is common knowledge and I just missed it (wrong search criteria, for example), I apologize!
With KitKat, you do not have to be rooted for many apps to be able to write to an external SD card, if you follow Google's guidelines!
Let me explain via an example:
One main requirement is that the app in question can actually see and use the external SD card - some cannot. Also, please be aware, depending upon your device manufacturer, the path examples given in this explanation may vary.
For the example, I am going to use a made-up app called MyTorrent. Let's say MyTorrent has a home-directory of '/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/com.company.mytorrent/files' where it stores its downloads, but you want it to save the downloads to the external SD card instead of internal memory. With many apps, this is easily and completely doable!
To have MyTorrent use the external SD card to save its downloads, you need to first make sure a home-directory was created for MyTorrent on the external SD card. There should be an Android directory on the external SD card, just like there is in internal memory. An app's external home-directory path will look a lot like its internal home-directory path, something like: '/storage/extSdCard/Android/data/com.company.mytorrent/files'. If the app you are setting up does not have a home-directory on the external SD card, just create one manually (use the internal home-directory path as a template).
Finally, just point MyTorrent's download location to its external SD card home-directory! As long as you can select the external home-directory path as the app's download destination, it should work. If this technique doe not work, it is usually because of how the app is written or, you got the external SD card home-directory wrong. Google set KitKat up so that any app has write permission to its own external SD card home-directory.
This is not a perfect answer and does not open up the external SD card for KitKat's use carte blanche, but it will help free up a lot of wasted, limited internal memory.
This method also works for file managers. Unfortunately, only their external home-directory will be available to them, but it is a good place for manual copy-type backups and zips.
Gonna check it out with my torrent. I saw this thing in Snap Camera app, when I wanted to save videos in SD card, but it saved in its directory, not anywhere else.(but I didn't understood that it can only save in its dir)

I use Flud, and it works fine for me. But, like you reiterated, it must use its own home directory.
BTW, it works (in most cases) the same way with Lollipop, too.
