Hi guys,
I do not know if anyone else has this problem but when I receive a message on my phone and the ringtone rings, it keeps on ringing no matter what I do or whatever button I push till the tone finishes.
Does anybody have any solution or is it like this with every touch cruise?
Thanks

It's perfectly normal. The only interruptible notification sound (the WAV ones) is the alarm one.
Hi, thanks for the reply. But it is a problem for me because when I receive a message I want to hear it and then be able to stop it, but ofcourse it doesn't. I read my messages I close the inbox and the stupid thing keeps ringing. Btw, is there a software that has an option to stop the ringtone when you press some key/screen?
funny... i have the opposite problem. i don't hear or see anything when i get an SMS other than a mark that i have 1 unread sms. no sound.. no notification.. no vibration.. nothing. and i tried changing the notifications in settings but it didn't work.
i used RingToneManager but it has a problem that you can't mute SMS messages.. so i get this annoying tone in class all the time. somewhat uncomfortable.

I have they are fine...
did it ever vibrate when receiving a call? if it did could be just a bad flash as it's vibrating when receiving a text. it's incoming call set on vibrate or ring and vibrate?
Same here. After I applied new official ROM for TP, when I put my phone to Vibrate mode, it only vibrates when there is a call. For SMS and e-mail, there is no vibration although all options are set fine.
Any ideas?

hard reset work?
This is very annoying to me and a few other people that have the captivate but during a call and you get a txt the phone vibrates. Is there anyway/trick to turn this off and have it beep during a call?
If you get Locale and a plug-in for determining if the phone is on a call or not, you can have it automatically disable vibration when on a call and then re-enable it when the call is ended.
Why would you want to turn it off? I am pretty sure you do not get more than 1 or 2 text while on the phone. I think its a very useful feature. Well back to your question as far as I know there is no way to do this unless you want to dig around your database folder and see what you can find??
Go to settings-call settings-all calls-alerts on call Off
you can turn it off, but every phone does this...i mean how else are you supposed to know if you got a text if you're on a call?

My point exactly. I would just put my phone down and never notice the missed message/call/whatever since we do not have LED notifications.
My Blackberry would give me a little audio indicator in my ear if I received a text while speaking on the phone, even if my phone was set to vibrate. It was a nice feature. I wish this phone would do the same because it vibrates so loudly I can't hear what person I'm speaking to is saying.
if you're using the headset, it gives an audible sound.
I dunno I guess I don't mind as much, if I notice anything then I will defiinitely pass it along
Open the Messaging App.
Hit the Menu Button.
Go to Settings.
Scroll Down.
Uncheck Vibrate.
Hey guys.. your getting a misunderstanding... I want it to vibrate when im not talking on the phone but when im talking on the phone like was said above... it vibrates so loud when your talking. I was asking if there was a way to turn the vibrate off during the call and get a beep sound instead like the dudes blackberry does.
"You know what really grinds my gears..."
Why does the phone vibrate when on a call? Seriously - this should be built into the operating system. A notification sound will suffice. It's so annoying to have a vibrations all on your earlobes. Is there a way (app) to configure this? Anyone else feel me or am I making a big deal about this?
Never noticed mine vibrate,
what is the notification for?
I turn off all in-call notifications though.

In-call notifications? Where is that? The vibrations come from sms messages.
Never noticed that.. but I have had the 'smart alarm' go off while I was talking on the phone. Was quite convenient.
And apparently it is audible enough to hear on the other end as several people have inquired as to what the noise was.

Mine doesn't vibrate when on call. Just gives a beep, maybe because I turn off vibrating notification in the sound and display setting
Wow. So I'm the only one that uses vibration for text messages? Also noticed it vibrates while charging - this also mystifies me because I don't see why anyone would need it to vibrate while being charged. Is this not common sense? I wonder if this happens with other android devices?

No, this happened to me several times. I eventually just turned off the vibrations all together. I agree, it would be nice to get a notification tone in the ear if you have the vibrate function on.
Have you tried Handcent SMS? It has great customizations for the vibration feature, among other things. Even different vibration patterns for distinct individuals. Give it a shot - might be what you're looking for.

I need the vibrate alert far too much to disable it all together. I rarely hear my phone, but almost always feel it.

Why would you not want it to vibrate while charging? During calls I could see (I have the same complaint actually), but why during charging?
+1 for a solution to this. Way too annoying when your on a call and you get a txt message but turning off vibrate is not an option.

Well, if the phone is charging its obviously plugged in. If its plugged in, its not in my pocket...its probably on a table or desk. Why do I want it to vibrate on the desk? If I'm not touching it, I can't feel it so an audible alert is good enough...
Its annoying sure, but I don't make enough phone calls for it to be really a bother. Oh well.

Is there a phone in the market that upon sensing external power it automatically switches notification type? Pike
I've had a quite a few smart phones (or so I thought) and don't recall any if them doing that.
Then again, if it's charging, it's not in your pocket. Switch notification to audible and problem solved. Takes all of one second.

All of my previous phones were running Symbian - none of them vibrated while on the phone or charging (moot point really).
Who wants to remember to switch their notifications to anything after a phone event happens? While you're at it, why not tell people to make sure they turn off their ringtones when they place or receive a call. Same logic. Doesn't make much sense to me...
I agree. Other phones I've had don't turn vibrate off when plugged in. I think they should, but they don't. So you can't really call this a "defect" with the Captivate.
However, I don't recall any of the other phones I've had vibrating in your ear when you are on a call. To me, that is a oversite with the dialer app and should be fixed.
I agree with you. I have had the think vibrate my ear off a few times.
One thing that really pisses me off is the dialer with an incomming call. ITs a pain in the ass to actually answer the call. Intead of it answering when you swipe, you have to go through 3 steps:
-Swipe
-pick end call or hold call
-swipe again to answer.
Im going to start a new thread to see if anyone knows how to answer call waiting instantly without these steps.
Here's an app I quickly made that disables the notificiation vibrator when in a call. It is a very simple/minimal app with no icons to run, or settings to change. Just don't uninstall while in a call or the vibrate setting will remain off. I only tried it with Call + Gmail vibrate.
hth
Got ya.
Its just a matter of how i use my phone. When my phone is charging, most of the time its on vibrate and i feel the vibration in the table/desk or hear it on my night stand.
I just didn't make the jump in logic.

First off, my apologies for not proof reading my poor swyping abilities.
What I was trying to state is that if it bothers you so much that the phone should ring as opposed to vibrate when plugged in , it just takes a second to change the notification type. Not sure what is there that doesn't make sense?
The vibrating in your ear, is totally understandable, hence why i didn't comment on that. IF my phone vibrated while it's on my ear, i'd be upset too.

I don't think you have sms vibrations set or maybe you're using non-stock rom - it's under the messages application. You had me for a minute cause I never checked call settings\all calls. Nonetheless - no that doesn't work. It still vibrates on a call.

Thanks I appreciate the effort. Unfortunately it seemed to turn off the vibrations all together. Lol. Even when I'm not on a call it doesn't vibrate. Can we get a second iteration? Please?
Thank you guys for the Handcent and ChompSMS suggestions. These seem to handle the message events the way I expect as they allow for in-call vibration alert customizations. Unfortunately they take over and get rid of my message puzzle pieces (cheezy I know, but I've grown to like those little things). I'm so picky - but that's what great about android right? Endless customizations!
I defintely would be interested in a less intrusive way to deal with the issue (i.e NoInCallVibrate)
Hello, I have a problem with my Nexus 5 (stock) ringtone and vibrate, I also had the same issue on my HTC One, which I had changed to Google Edition.
If someone calls the phone will ring and vibrate for about 1 second only and then it goes silent and stops vibrating, the call is still there ringing on the screen but just no sound or vibrate. This iv very annoying as I keep missing calls, can anyone please help with this issue.
Thanks

Did you ever find a solution to this? My phone has started doing exactly this, and I don't really know how to even begin troubleshooting it.
Yes I did. It was a 3rd party app causing the problem. A call control app that lets you accept and block numbers.....
Thanks for replying. That was my problem too. You saved me going through app by app to figure this out.
