Vibrating while on a call? - Captivate General

"You know what really grinds my gears..."
Why does the phone vibrate when on a call? Seriously - this should be built into the operating system. A notification sound will suffice. It's so annoying to have a vibrations all on your earlobes. Is there a way (app) to configure this? Anyone else feel me or am I making a big deal about this?

Never noticed mine vibrate,
what is the notification for?
I turn off all in-call notifications though.

In-call notifications? Where is that? The vibrations come from sms messages.

Never noticed that.. but I have had the 'smart alarm' go off while I was talking on the phone. Was quite convenient.

And apparently it is audible enough to hear on the other end as several people have inquired as to what the noise was.

Mine doesn't vibrate when on call. Just gives a beep, maybe because I turn off vibrating notification in the sound and display setting

Wow. So I'm the only one that uses vibration for text messages? Also noticed it vibrates while charging - this also mystifies me because I don't see why anyone would need it to vibrate while being charged. Is this not common sense? I wonder if this happens with other android devices?

No, this happened to me several times. I eventually just turned off the vibrations all together. I agree, it would be nice to get a notification tone in the ear if you have the vibrate function on.
Have you tried Handcent SMS? It has great customizations for the vibration feature, among other things. Even different vibration patterns for distinct individuals. Give it a shot - might be what you're looking for.

I need the vibrate alert far too much to disable it all together. I rarely hear my phone, but almost always feel it.

Why would you not want it to vibrate while charging? During calls I could see (I have the same complaint actually), but why during charging?

+1 for a solution to this. Way too annoying when your on a call and you get a txt message but turning off vibrate is not an option.

Well, if the phone is charging its obviously plugged in. If its plugged in, its not in my pocket...its probably on a table or desk. Why do I want it to vibrate on the desk? If I'm not touching it, I can't feel it so an audible alert is good enough...

Its annoying sure, but I don't make enough phone calls for it to be really a bother. Oh well.

Is there a phone in the market that upon sensing external power it automatically switches notification type? Pike
I've had a quite a few smart phones (or so I thought) and don't recall any if them doing that.
Then again, if it's charging, it's not in your pocket. Switch notification to audible and problem solved. Takes all of one second.

All of my previous phones were running Symbian - none of them vibrated while on the phone or charging (moot point really).
Who wants to remember to switch their notifications to anything after a phone event happens? While you're at it, why not tell people to make sure they turn off their ringtones when they place or receive a call. Same logic. Doesn't make much sense to me...

I agree. Other phones I've had don't turn vibrate off when plugged in. I think they should, but they don't. So you can't really call this a "defect" with the Captivate.
However, I don't recall any of the other phones I've had vibrating in your ear when you are on a call. To me, that is a oversite with the dialer app and should be fixed.

I agree with you. I have had the think vibrate my ear off a few times.
One thing that really pisses me off is the dialer with an incomming call. ITs a pain in the ass to actually answer the call. Intead of it answering when you swipe, you have to go through 3 steps:
-Swipe
-pick end call or hold call
-swipe again to answer.
Im going to start a new thread to see if anyone knows how to answer call waiting instantly without these steps.

Here's an app I quickly made that disables the notificiation vibrator when in a call. It is a very simple/minimal app with no icons to run, or settings to change. Just don't uninstall while in a call or the vibrate setting will remain off. I only tried it with Call + Gmail vibrate.
hth

Got ya.
Its just a matter of how i use my phone. When my phone is charging, most of the time its on vibrate and i feel the vibration in the table/desk or hear it on my night stand.
I just didn't make the jump in logic.

First off, my apologies for not proof reading my poor swyping abilities.
What I was trying to state is that if it bothers you so much that the phone should ring as opposed to vibrate when plugged in , it just takes a second to change the notification type. Not sure what is there that doesn't make sense?
The vibrating in your ear, is totally understandable, hence why i didn't comment on that. IF my phone vibrated while it's on my ear, i'd be upset too.

I don't think you have sms vibrations set or maybe you're using non-stock rom - it's under the messages application. You had me for a minute cause I never checked call settings\all calls. Nonetheless - no that doesn't work. It still vibrates on a call.

Thanks I appreciate the effort. Unfortunately it seemed to turn off the vibrations all together. Lol. Even when I'm not on a call it doesn't vibrate. Can we get a second iteration? Please?
Thank you guys for the Handcent and ChompSMS suggestions. These seem to handle the message events the way I expect as they allow for in-call vibration alert customizations. Unfortunately they take over and get rid of my message puzzle pieces (cheezy I know, but I've grown to like those little things). I'm so picky - but that's what great about android right? Endless customizations!
I defintely would be interested in a less intrusive way to deal with the issue (i.e NoInCallVibrate)

Fuze does not ring...

On incoming calls, my Fuze does not ring. I have it set to 'vibrate and ring' and it only vibrates. I have changed ringtones, ring settings, turned it off and back on, soft reset, pulled the battery out, etc and nothing will make my phone ring. All other notifications work (alarms, text messages, etc) and it will work on speaker phone once a call is connected. Is there any advice? I am trying to avoid a Hard-reset because I have the device set-up perfectly to my tastes...

What format is the ring tone in?
My ringtone is the 'Oldphone2' and it is set at'vibrate and ring'. It just spontaneously started this non-ringing thing this morning prompted by no changing of settings. As I said, I tried messing around with the setting after it stopped ringing, but to no avail. And the frustrating thing is that everything else seems to work fine. Argh!
This may seem silly, but have you checked your ring volume? I've had a situation a few times, for no apparent reason after disconnecting from Activesync, where my ring volume was down to 0. Just a thought.
I HAVE SAME PROBLEM, when you turn all to vibrate only and turn it back up . the ring stop working
Yes. all volume settings are up. ringer volume, call volume, media player volume.... Any other suggestions?
i had the same problem just now.. but changing the ringtone back to the ATT default one fixed it. I also use S2U2 and changing the setting for "vibrate when answered" or something like that seems to have fixed it as well.
Hope that helps.
what is S2U2? I have tried changing the ringtone back to ATT default and fiddling with the settings... No help there. This is frustrating. I have to keepmy phone on my desk in front of me so I dont miss any calls. I miss them if the phone is in my pocket.

this happened to me too and i hard resetted. that fixed it , then it started again. come to find out th eproblem was when i hit the volume key on the side i turned system valume up and didnt click on ringer volume to turn it up . i had to smack myself
do texts ringer still work?? if so then im pretty sure you have the same problem i had, check it. good luck though
Do you have the unit face down? It has an auto mute when face down.
I also have an alarm problem, although lights go off, the alarm doesn't ring. I also have problems with ringing on incoming calls. The speaker otherwise works fine. Volumes are turned on appropriately. I have Natfv4.0 installed. Do any of the roms fix this problem?
So somehow the problem fixed itself. Dont know how as I didnt even touch my phone for two days. I just turned it on and -BOOM- it rang a few minutes later. Totally spontaneous issue. Really strange this phone is sometimes...
Boy, do I feel dumb.....Never even noted the un hi-lighted RING volume TAB...
I guess I can't use THAT excuse for not answering calls...
Thanks
Ron
I've been having the same problem. It's very baffling to say the least. I believe it was caused by the newer versions of S2U2. Don't know if it's been discussed in that thread or not. Both times this ringer 'glitch' has occurred, it's been when I've password protected S2U2 in settings. The issue was fixed by turning the password protection off, restarting S2U2, soft resetting my Fuze.
I am having the same problem with incoming calls not playing the ring tone and missing calls. I can guarantee you that the system/ring volume controls are at maximum. I have switched ring tones to no avail. It seems to have something to do with changing the ring type from ring to increasing ring and or visa versa. When I change ring type the problem exists. If I turn system/ring volume to silent and then back to maximum it plays the ring tone just fine. There is a bug in there somewhere! I also see a 'send text' lower left of screen and I hear a blurp sound or two in the background wihile the ringtone is playing when the phone is ringing. Anyone else have any issues like this? If so or you have a fix please send it to [email protected] I'm new to this forum stuff and don't really know how to use it. Hope I didn't break any rules.
Thank you,
Trent Alexander
I just have the callers complaining that I take too long to answer the phone. I called myself, and it took 3 1/2 rings for my Fuze to ring...anyone else?
Great PPC, Lousy Phone
Mine too. I just tried it and it does not ring until seven seconds after the light starts flashing. Not only that, it will not retain a custom ring tone. I try to use Old Phone 2 but it reverts to the default on its own.
My vario iv also suffers from the missing ring tone- reboots sometimes help but not always.
I too have had to learn not to rely on the alarm- goes off some days and then not on others.
Just now I thought that I would try to play an mp3 to see if that works- I pressed play and then waited for the track to start- no sound- seconds later the screen changed and touchflow launched itself (again) went back to the home tab and the sound is back?????
Same problem... it stopped ringing...
one thing I notice is that if the number calling is private or block it will only light up (no ring) but from a caller with Caller ID open the phone will ring...
strange...

Vibartion During Call

This is very annoying to me and a few other people that have the captivate but during a call and you get a txt the phone vibrates. Is there anyway/trick to turn this off and have it beep during a call?
If you get Locale and a plug-in for determining if the phone is on a call or not, you can have it automatically disable vibration when on a call and then re-enable it when the call is ended.
Why would you want to turn it off? I am pretty sure you do not get more than 1 or 2 text while on the phone. I think its a very useful feature. Well back to your question as far as I know there is no way to do this unless you want to dig around your database folder and see what you can find??
Go to settings-call settings-all calls-alerts on call Off
you can turn it off, but every phone does this...i mean how else are you supposed to know if you got a text if you're on a call?

My point exactly. I would just put my phone down and never notice the missed message/call/whatever since we do not have LED notifications.
My Blackberry would give me a little audio indicator in my ear if I received a text while speaking on the phone, even if my phone was set to vibrate. It was a nice feature. I wish this phone would do the same because it vibrates so loudly I can't hear what person I'm speaking to is saying.
if you're using the headset, it gives an audible sound.
I dunno I guess I don't mind as much, if I notice anything then I will defiinitely pass it along
Open the Messaging App.
Hit the Menu Button.
Go to Settings.
Scroll Down.
Uncheck Vibrate.
Hey guys.. your getting a misunderstanding... I want it to vibrate when im not talking on the phone but when im talking on the phone like was said above... it vibrates so loud when your talking. I was asking if there was a way to turn the vibrate off during the call and get a beep sound instead like the dudes blackberry does.

Notifications not sounding?

I've noticed that, for some reason, during the day my notifications won't sound. The phone will vibrate but I have missed calls, SMS, emails, etc. because of this. The phone is DEFINITELY on loud and I am NOT changing the volume in pocket (it happens with or without case). Everytime it happens, I checked my volume and it is all the way up.
Any ideas? PS - happens on any ROM

I had a similar issue that turned out to be due to my own mis-setting of CyanogenMod's quiet hours <.< 12PM is different than 12AM.
In your case it sounds like there is a setting somewhere that is preventing there from being a notification sound. Do you use stock messaging and gmail? Go into the settings for those applications (stock or non) and check to make sure its set correctly. Has this always been true? Have you tried doing a full factory reset? It sucks but its the best way to gauge whether or not you are experiencing a setting issue or if its really a hardware issue. Do your calls ring?

I appreciate the help; I'll check quiet hours. As I stated, calls have the same problem. Notifications are definitely properly configured in their respective apps because I get the sounds sometimes.

The most annoying damn thing about this phone

Every time I'm on a call, my phone will vibrate if I receive text messages. The buzzing right next to my ear makes it impossible to hear the other person, and is extremely distracting. I haven't found a way to turn this off (besides maybe setting to silent mode during a call, and I'm not even sure that works).
Any idea how to disable text notifications during a call? Would I possibly have to move to a third party app like handcent?
Call settings and then call alerts.

I have 'alerts on call' disabled but I still have the text messages vibrate when they arrive. I do not think I hear any in-call tones though.

Okay, I tested it out. 'Alerts on call' has to be ENABLED, which will result in a very light tone when text messages arrive, but that annoying vibration will no longer happen.

[Q] No notification sounds during phone call?

Is there any way to turn on notification sounds (for new text msg or email etc.) during phone calls?
I find myself constantly taking my phone away from my ear during calls to check if there are any new notifications since the sounds get muted during call and find this kind of annoying. Seems like this should be a standard option, no?
Turn on pulse notification light in display.
You really talk on the phone so much and receive so many notifications that this is a problem?

Notification pulse is turned on - that has nothing to do with sound. It bothers me because notification sounds worked just fine during calls on my Galaxy Nexus.
If I talk on the phone for 40 minutes but I get an important text message 5 minutes into the call that needs a timely response, yes, it is a problem.
Anyone have any ideas? This is an annoying issue.
+1. I'm looking to see if there's a solution for this.
Yes , I need to know the answer to the same , because missing out on important messages are a fear when I am on long calls . Thanks .
Anything new on this? Just got my Nexus 5 and I'm having the same issue.
Use tasker. Make a profile that makes a short vibration upon receiving a notification. You could use a sound instead of vibrate, but imo that would be annoying for you and the person you're on the phone with.
Nexus 5 issue.
There's a simple solution for this., just go into your settings>sounds and notification >interruptions. Here you can edit what notification will interrupt you while being on a call.
