Notification volume much too quiet when on bluetooth - OnePlus 6 Questions & Answers

This is a simple problem that has no solution that I'm aware of. On my OP6, notifications coming through any bluetooth headset that I've tried (3 of my own, and a couple others) have been so quiet even at max volume as to be nearly useless. Since the vibration motor on this phone is also so weak as to be nearly useless, this creates a problem when doing something like listening to music--any message will probably get missed.
Anyone have any experience solving this problem? Or maybe even a workaround of some kind? I'm on open beta 5 and rooted, but that makes no difference as all builds show this behavior identically.

Absolutely no one has noticed this problem? This isn't even a OP6 thing: it happened on my 3t and 5t as well.

It's fine here. Maybe it's your device thats connected to all your phones.

Happens to me too.

I suppose it's possible, but over the years I've tried upwards of 5 or 6 devices, ranging from wireless earbuds, over hear headphones, and a couple of bluetooth speakers. All exhibit exactly the same problem 100% of the time.

Doesn't your phone attenuate when a notification comes in? I barely hear the notification tone as well (which may confirm what you're saying) but the music lowers when one comes in so I know immediately when someone has texted me.

Tinny buzzy Sound

I've noticed my earpiece sound is a bit buzzy/tinny when someone talks, at least compared to my incredible. Anyone else experience this? I checked the demo units at the store, and they seem to also sound this way.

I was on the phone for about 10 mins yesterday from lifelock calling to ask if I had wanted to run credit with verizon, lol good thing though I guess. I didn't notice any issues at all with buzzing or anything. If it did it was minor and didn't bother me.

I havent noticed this on mine. I just made a call to test in case I just wasnt noticing it and didnt have this issue.
The only sound related issue I have noticed is that some sounds, like lock screen and the sound made when selecting an app, will get really low after a minute or two even if I have the volume on high and do not adjust it.

Nexus 5: Making-Receiving calls (Microphone and Speaker) problem

Hi Guys -
Black Nexus 5. It has been great in everything except placing and receiving calls. I don't use a headset just the phone directly. But whenever I call someone, people tell me that they can barely hear me. To fix that I literally have to move my mouth right next to the microphone and even then the voice is barely ok. I almost have to shout. People tell me that I sounded much louder on my own phone.
Also while hearing people on the phone the voice is too low. I use the volume control app and have the IN CALL volume on FULL. 5/5. Still I barely hear the other person and if it's noisy outside I cannot. Contrast to my previous phone in which I had to go down to 50% volume otherwise it was too loud.
Is this a defective unit? A hardware issue? Do I need to ask Google for replacement? I am loath to do that since the phone has been amazing in everything else. It's fast as hell and the battery life is super.
I wanted to know if any one has the same problem and whether it might be fixed with a software update or is it just a hardware issue and something wrong with my phone?
Thanks in advance.
Idem for me !
Hi,
I've the same problem with my Nexus 5. I think that it's a software problem because, when I put the speaker on, the problem is resolved. I think that it's due to 2 microphones and noise cancelation... Our voice is canceled ! I hope that Google is awared of that problem and will delivered a fix quickely. Specially that there is another problem with speaker that sometimes sizzles a lot ! I think that i'm going to buy a headset in the meantime. That's really a shame : a new phone that we cannot use to phone ! Even if yes for the other thinks Nexus 5 is great.
Are they other people that are the same problem ? How can we open a case in Google ? How they know that there is really something to fix ?
Thanks,

Did you ask for an RMA? If so, what is the status?
I have the same issue and google has promised an RMA.
Its quite a pain not to have a phone for a week.

I don't think a replacement will help.
There are several other threads already
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518840
exactly the same here... already some news what to do?
This issue seems to have become worse with the 4.2.2 update. The in-call volume is very very low. It's impossible for me to hear other people unless I am in a quiet room (the volume is maxed out). I recall with the stock 4.4.0 - the call volume was not that low.
For whatever reason, using a headset everything is fine. So for phone calls, Nexus 5 is only usable if I use a headset. It's impossible with the earpiece.
Anyone else having a problem with low in call volume? I'm wondering whether it's my specific phone. Everything else is perfect, and the battery life is insanely good. Wondering whether I should RMA.
I too am having this problem. It wasn't like this before the update but outside I can barely hear the other side. I don't make a lot of calls tbh but I remember shortly after I bought it making a call to another N5 and thinking how great it sounded.
Now it's hard to use.
I am having the same issue some days back. They Have replaced with new one..No issues so far..

Hi - did you do anything. I am wondering whether RMA helps in such a case.
I haven't done anything with mine yet I was hoping to compare it to a friends N5 first.
I might try and contact Google.

Annoying buzz or static noise when using headphones in Nexus 5

For your information.
-Unrooted, it only has the Aviate launcher but this thing has been going on weeks before it.
-No cellular service(I am using it only at WiFi. It is like as if it were an iPod touch.)
-Happens in videos, YouTube daily motion etc.
-Only when using earphones.
Hey forum! I once again bring up another problem with my Nexus 5. I had it for 60ish days, and this thing has only been occurring for a few weeks. It is this annoying sound which occurs when I plug my headphones and watch some YouTube videos. Initially I thought it was my headphones, but I used two and found that the problem was the same. I believe it is definitely my Nexus 5, but I do not know why and how. It is a pest to me which I want to exterminate, and I gladly could use some help. Is this worthy enough to send back and get a new device? If so, what do I need to be aware of (additional charges, if I can ask for a new color etc).
I found this video which has strong resemblance to my problem only his occurs on speaker. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XZSef6fuKU&feature=youtube_gdata_player
Thank you for your help,
EL

I'm having the same issue on my N5 (stock, rooted). I've been searching online, but have yet to find an explanation or solution. I'll report back here if that changes.
Hopefully somebody else on this forum can chime in with some useful information.
I'm getting an annoying buzzing through my headphone jack as well. Noticed it more when playing through my car stereo. I'm inclined to say it's software related, not hardware. Hopefully in 4.4.3 there will be something that will take care of it. I can't see the hardware degrading that quickly, i've only had my phone for less than 4 months and this issue is just starting.
So I think I solved this problem on my phone. Before, I was having glitchy hiccups at least once per song. This hasn't happened once in the past two days since I went into the xposed module gravitybox and disabled "More music volume steps." Hopefully this helps someone else or perhaps inspires them to their own solution.

I do have more music steps in the ROM settings I changed, but not on Gravity Box. I'll have to see if those are possibly a cause.
I have the same issue but also when playing music using the internal speakers of the phone. It happens when playing music with Spotify and YouTube but I do not think it ever happened to ingame music of any game.
I will also try the XPosed module and report back if it worked..
Edit: Using this tweak of GravityBox did not work for me. The buzzing continues
everyone with this problem
does it only happen when you have the phone plugged into a car or home charger?
i have always gotten this on all my android phones when charging and listening to music in my car or with headphones.. its just one of those things that happens because all the components inside our phones arent shielded as well as they should be
It does not has anything to do with the charger because it happens without it plugged in
Does anyone have updates on the issue? It still occurs on my phone, even on Android L. So I guess it cannot be a software issue
Mine does this all the time when I'm watching videos on YouTube on speaker or headphone... On every ROM from stock to slimkat (using now) and sometimes through the music player. I'm guessing it's some sort of WiFi interference?
My newly acquired Nexus 5 also suffers from this issue
It's exactly the same as in the video. And I don't know why, it's more apparent when watching youtube videos, and much less common when listening to music (both locally with Poweramp and while streaming with Spotify).
I also can confirm this has nothing to do with the device being in charge or not.
Help??
I'm going to buy Nexus 5 soon and that issue sounds really bad to me. Any more information about it? I listen to music on my phone every day and I'd be really disappointed if the noise happened to me.
For me that issue stills persists after over half a year of owning the Nexus 5. I tried several ROMs, some Audio Mods. Nothing helped. I guess it must be a hardware issue.
I wrote a ticket about it to LG, but never got an answer. Since there is not much discussion about it in the internet it appears like it is only an issue with a small amount of devices. So if you are going to buy one the chances are low to get this bug.
You are probably right but when I consider my luck, I still get worried. Keeping my fingers crossed though Thanks for an update.
i think all nexus 5 devices have it, but not everybody notices it.
from my experience with various brands, as much as i dislike them as a company, but samsung has the best headphone jack sound output.

I see. I'm not a big fan of Samsung either, I had some phones from them and I didn't really like those Also for comparision, HTC Desire Z's sound that was coming from the minijack output was perfect for me on my Soundmagic PL11 buds (I'm not an audiophile).
I need to get a new phone anyway and Nexus 5 seems to be something I was looking for - cheap, powerful and comes with Full HD screen. Even if headphone jack isn't going to work well...

The headphone jack on the N5 works well, i listen to music through my phone almost on a daily basis, so you don't have to worry about that, but i've come across the glitch linked in OP several times, and it can be reproduced. it doesn't just appear out of nowhere.
i had have this issue from when i bought my device
Annoying buzz and static noise but ya live with it ,regard's joe.
since upgrading to lollipop i can notice this sound glitch (while listening to music over headphones) more often, it occurs once in every 10min for sure... it's really annoying
I hope it's not placebo, but for me, since the lollipop upgrade, I haven't noticed this noise. I've even been listening to more music than before, as this quite got on my nerves, but now it seems to be gone.

Back vibrates while watching a video or listening to music

I just got a pixel 3 from a friend and to my surprise when I watch a YouTube video at 50% volume the back of the phone vibrates pretty bad, is this a flaw or something like that? This never happened to me with any other phone... Is there a way to fix this issue?
So everybody has the exact same issue with the speakers here but nobody is gonna say something about it... Ok I'm sending this phone back and getting a refund oh and thanks for the participation.

Really? Well that's weird because I found way too many people complaining about the same thing on Reddit, here and many other places... There's even an article about it, wanna take a look? Here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/bgr.com/2018/10/16/pixel-3-xl-review-supplement-design-flaw/amp/
Consider yourself very lucky if you don't have that issue, as for me I just got my money back, I showed the rep and he tried 3 more different pixel 3 and they all vibrated in the back like an earthquake.
Odd, not many posts "here" about it. I also do not notice this. I am confused, you showed the rep? What rep, carrier rep? Maybe your carrier bought a batch of defective devices?

Yes, carrier rep, just google "pixel 3 back vibration" and you'll see the results, my dream would be to find one that doesn't vibrate that much
I mean how much are you talking about? Sound is vibration so naturally sound coming from your device creates vibration. Have you measured it in comparison to these non vibrating devices. I am just confused, if your phone has no vibration is it not then on mute? I tried my wife's phone and an old device, seems fairly normal that with speakers turned on they vibrate.

Did you read the article i posted? It vibrates pretty bad, at 35%-40% the back rumbles like if it has a third speaker pointing at the back from the inside, it is that bad, i used many phones and never experienced something like that...
Here is a reddit post, have a look, read the comments: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/ak23vk/my_pixel_3_vibrates_when_playing_any_audio/
And here another one from xda: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-3-xl/help/vibration-speakers-t3855051
I got a refund and bought the pixel 4 and there's no vibration at all even at full volume...
What i think is that you guys don't want to acknowledge or just ignore the fact.... anyway it's a pity.
It is not an issue of not wanting to acknowledge it or something. I think many people have just never run across the issue. Personally, I do not use my phone for watching videos and such, so I never even thought about it. When I went to play sound out of the speakers after reading your post I noticed some vibration, but the only thing I could do is compare it with other devices. It simply does not seem to be a huge amount of vibration to me. Again, though, I do not rely on the phone speakers for audio stuff. I could see how it could be annoying, but to me using a phone's speakers for audio would be annoying in general.

If you would use your phone to watch videos and listen to music it would bother you to the point of considering getting rid of it, I could just leave the phone on the table and won't feel any vibration but I generally hold the phone with both hands... Would you do something for me? Please watch this video clip of Queen at 40% or 50% of the volume holding your pixel 3 with both hands rotating it to watch full screen and let me how long you watch without the vibration bothering you to the point of just stopping the video.
Thanks

Android 12...bugs so far?

I noticed the OXYGEN UPDATER APP now has Android 12 available to install but it hasn't quite made it to the official update in the settings. Just wondering if anyone has tried this update and whether you experienced or heard of any bugs?
I have no reason to think there is but Ive literally heard nothing good, bad or neutral. It's like no one owns this phone anymore. An update like this used to be noteworthy. That said, if anyone reads this and you have info, please share. Thanks
I have updated my device today and one thing I have noticed the most is that volume levels after the update are much lower than they were. I cannot use normally my earphones indoors and cannot image how bad it will perform outdoors.
Would be grateful if someone knows how to fix such problem.

I appreciate the feedback. I still haven't updated, but lately I've had volume issues. Both pairs of ear buds are noticeably lower than they were in the past. On one pair the right ear bud is barely usable, especially in a somehat noisy setting, but it's gotta be an issue with the ear bud.
In general, I need to crank them all the way up in the gym.

I have fixed the issue with low sound levels when using earphones, but, unfortunately, I cannot describe clearly how 'cause it was a bit incomprehensible. I just connected one more time my earphones to smartphone, opened some video on YouTube, then pop-out of some option about volume came out. Then I tapped on it and there was an option that has strange description (maybe it is because of localization) that I switched on, and the volume issue fixed magically. After that, I couldn't find that option once again in settings.
Sounds familiar. I think it's a built-in volume limiter. Should be able to find something in the settings and if not maybe enable developer settings and see if you find it there. Something like "absolute volume".
But it looks like you got it sorted out anyway.
Actually nevermind. I got that confused with something else. I believe all that would do is keep the earbuds and the phone volumes separate.
There's been talk that Android 12 and Android Auto don't work well in some cars - not OnePlus specific, but in general. Has anyone tried Android Auto with 12 yet on the OP8?
Alan
I did the update, and here is what I notice:
The icons on top of the screen are not the same size.
The Notifications sometimes are lost (Whatsapp/text etc)
Whatsapp voice calls echo and sometimes the phone does not ring
Ghost touches when gaming (clash royale)
The screen goes ON for no reason
The battery sometimes is okay, sometimes it drains (your mileage may vary)
Screen unlock fingerprint behavior slow at times and sometimes is fine.
The volume issue that everyone is reporting
All of if has been reported to OnePlus. If you visit the OP forums everyone is pretty pissed off about it myself included.
Honestly, it feels like this is an Alpha version of the ROM and they are using the general public to test and find bugs.
This is pretty frustrating a phone is not a toy is a tool for work and to communicate with others.
Fingerprint unlock stops working after a few days. Reboot brings it back.
Just to update. AA works fine with Android 12 on my OP8
