How come no one is talking about TWRP? - Google Pixel 3 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

How come no one is talking about TWRP? Is it inappropriate to ask if this is being worked on?
Great to see root via Magisk.
Are there concerns that the Titan chip could keep us from getting TWRP support?
I am waiting for TWRP before buying a Pixel 3.

I'm not missing twrp
I'm rooted, got the modifications I need

Troy himself has the phone which I suspect makes TWRP for these devices a front burner project. That said the man has a life and things don't happen instantly, be patient. And yeah, this should be in the Q&A section.

TWRP is necessary to do things like removing journaling before first boot, modifying fstab before first boot removing encryption and avb before flashing magisk.
so its always welcomed, im sure the creator is working on a working twrp

Rule#1 never ask. In do time my friend

I don't like either, but Sticking with CWM for now. I hope we can work on bringing Philz recovery to the N5 when he updates sources to CM 11.

This is a link to the development thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860
To get this on the N5, we need to be able to first, compile stock CWM on our device (well we know that can be done). Then we need to be able to compile Philz source on our device tree in the same way. Then Phil will be able to release for the N5.
Of course, he will need to update his sources to CM 11 first, which will take time but once he does, we can do post 2 of that thread.
Please, no one reading this post go into the Philz development thread asking for support or ETA!!!

TWRP because I was not happy that CWM was charging extra for the touch version even though I had purchased rom manager. TWRP offered it free and it looks better.

Anyone with TWRP have wiping / flashing rom issues?
We no longer need the rm -fr with 2.6.3.4 to wipe normally?
I like CWM but I just love the simplicity of TWRP so TWRP for me.

[Q&A] [TWRP][osprey] TWRP for Moto G 2015

Q&A for [TWRP][osprey] TWRP for Moto G 2015
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for [TWRP][osprey] TWRP for Moto G 2015. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
worked smoothly
worked well! temporary boot went swimmingly, and root went with no problems. phone arrived from amazon and had an unlocked bootloader + rooted in under 8 minutes =) very many thanks to you!
working well up untill i flshed xposed...
Recovery works perfectly for me. Thanks a lot!
So guys, let me be the one who asks first: how are you guys rooting the MotoG3?
After unlocking the bootloader & installing TWRP as described in the main thread, when you go to reboot, the recovery points out that you're not rooted and asks if you'd like it done. Neat & simple.

Thanks, @davidstelephone! So IIRC, as soon as you unlock your bootloader, the warranty is void, is that right?

No, it's not yet official. I need to fix encryption support. I haven't had time to look into it. Once encryption support is fixed, then I'll look at having it made official. It'll probably be a few weeks before I get around to fixing crypto. So if anyone wants to fix it themselves, feel free to do so and submit a pull request, and I'll gladly integrate it and give credit.
As @vandermark says... "It looks like USB-OTG is not working in this TWRP"
It simply shows an unmount button. No option to mount.
Apart from that all good. I have not tested apart from flash SU

d2usc development dead?

It's been about 2 years since a ROM has been built for this device, yet all other variant S3's are still developed for to this day, why?
Yeah, it would appear that way. I am looking today for a ROM as well. Mine is not a phone I use anymore for anything other than to play music, so I"m tempted to try a verizon or sprint ROM ha ha.

Verizon(d2vzw) ROMs should not be too hard to port to d2usc.
Try this for starters, you'll need more info to go with this.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069850
Also, you might be able to flash it without changing anything, only issue might be camera or WiFi not working.

I've modified lineage OS for the d2vzw to flash on a d2usc, it had quite a few issues which I believe are related to the baseband. Sound, cellular, etc would not work at all.

I flashed straight up d2spr, and d2vzw and both worked ok, but as it was just stated, the sound wouldn't work, and probably the other things mentioned, I mostly noticed the sound, which is a deal breaker, because I'm using the device for sound lol.

Anyone want to trade a d2usc for a d2vzw?
After a while of playing around, if you flash systemless SuperSU after forcing d2vzw lineage on it, it fixes sound for the next boot but the notification is stuck fading in and out like it's booting even if it finished long ago. I'm looking into building Lineage for d2usc, I'm new to it though.

I don't think CM/Lineage is a TouchWiz ROM though.
Just realised it also points out how to port AOSP, but it says both ROMs must be the same Android version. The point of porting a d2vzw ROM to d2usc is for 7.1.1 which the d2vzw has but the d2usc doesn't. I've only seen 5.0 for the d2usc that has working sound and cellular.
Nevermind read a thread on how to convert sdat to img vise versa and modify it. I'll try it tomorrow.

Exactly haha. Not sure why people are jumping the gun on development for this phone already. My Moto g5 plus took longer than this from its initial release to get development going. And now that phone is very active in the community.
Anyway, point is, just give it some time like this guy said. The phone isn't exactly a flagship anyway. And the Android one version hasn't even been released here yet.

thanks for the comments. how long have you been in the developer scene with HTC. Also nobody is jumping the gun. We aren't allowed to go to devs and ask for eta's so I just made this thread so they may see and hopefully give some love to this phone. All I need is root and a recovery I can do the rest.
Look on the bright side, pixel 2 been out for a month. And even we are slow on development. You'll get root and probably a few roms, it will take time though.
Also the fact that bootloader is unlockable when phone cost less than $400 is kinda big deal

Very well put. I only usually get the flagship HTC phones but this time I chose this since it was T-Mobile specific. And I waited to long to get u11 so using this till next HTC flagship comes. I look forward to seeing you around.
HTC phones from my experience don't take too long to get root. They average about a month or so. Keep in mind my last HTC was the EVO LTE.
You don't need a custom recovery for root.
You can use Magisk to patch a stock boot.img for your device (for example, one found here) and flash the patched image via fastboot. Then you're rooted, and you didn't even need TWRP.
I won't be purchasing this device, so unfortunately I can't build a TWRP for it (that and I'm retiring in 8 posts). If someone else wants to pursue building it, I'm willing to offer minimal assistance.

There's a thread on xda about building TWRP. I've never built TWRP before, but I know about using build environments and whatnot. Google "how to build TWRP" I believe haha, as simple as it sounds it should come up in the top few results.
Anyway, I think you and I should help each other out here like you said. I'm using an older imac since I sold my old PC. It only has 4gb ram, but I'm going to install Ubuntu tomorrow on the Mac as a partition, and then hopefully I can get a build environment going quickly and start work.
What are you doing so far? Are you able to build too? Or maybe we can both research and bounce ideas off each other while I try it out. Whatever you prefer. Just PM me I guess.

I can build I have a great machine and all ready downloaded the source. The only difference in building twrp for a new device is we have to make our own files from scratch. And it would be nice if we had an ruu to restore back from if things don't go well during testing. We can figure it out. Help is always good more people trying different things usually gets results faster.

I would love to eventually see a ROM that gives the T-Mobile variant a similar appeal as the Android One version. I bought the U11 Life as a backup to my Pixel 2 (and to benefit from T-Mobile's Carrier Freedom promo, as well) and I was very surprised as to how much I actually enjoyed using the phone!
Brought me back to the days when I had the One M7.
Just so everyone is aware...... Once you unlock your bootloader you can then go super CID, once you are super CID you can flash ANY GSM boot.img , so there is no roadblock on that end. The roadblock is no custom recovery, if we had a custom recovery then we are open to a world of wonders and amazement. So get to work......

No rom development so far ?

I where just thinking why there isn't any development done yet, like on the other phones. Next day there would be a custom rom out there to try and use.
But with this Oneplus 6, it seems like i paused. I have been playing around with treble, and i have never done any dev and can't get things to work either. So i have to wait on the others to come out with something.
Does anyone know if there is something coming soon ?

Oh how I love these threads a week and a half after launch lol ok here's the thing treble isn't the culprit. If anything treble teases us with roms that have about an 80% chance of working lol. The real reason is.... Qualcomm hasn't dropped source yet for the 845. And also the Seamless updates(AB) is gonna be a small problem. But the fact we already have twrp working and things are about to get started is kinda exciting. But honestly it will come alot faster then the other devices with sd845. This device is a Dev magnet lol and OnePlus is one if not the best at releasing source and back to stock roms. So don't fret bro the device has only been out for a few weeks lol. Go boot Cosmic OS with treble. It's pretty fun to play with.

Lol. First, the device is very new. Wait for the Dev support.
Secondly, no ETAs for anything. A thumb rule for XDA.
It's an OnePlus after all. Wait for it, development would start soon.
There is no device tree yet published by OnePlus. Only kernel sources. So it's just the waiting game
The device is still very new and most of the devs just got hands on it. Seeing two kernel, unofficial twrp and a custom debloated rom is pretty impressive considering the facts of A/B partition, project treble and not full sources dropped yet.
