Honor 8 update fails - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

So I got my Honor 8 back to stock from RROS and bricked state but now I relocked the bootloader, tried to update with basic update option but it didn't work so I tried with full package but even that didn't work. I unlocked bootloader and I was surprised about still having TWRP in my phone, after unlocking it booted there. I thought the /dload method should uninstall that but nope. So after unlocking updates also fail, so for now I'm still stuck on FRD-L09C432B360.
Any suggestions?
P.S. it isn't my primary phone. (And any Huawei Honor won't ever be)

Just update using hurupdater

Possible to completely reset your Honor 8? Lock bootloader, reset warning etc

Is there any way to completely reset your Honor 8?
I unlocked bootloader with code from huawei, rooted, twrp etc.
Is there any way to completely restore it to factory default?
I tried unrooting it and locked the bootloader using the tool here on the forum. But the warning is still there when you booted, that its been tampered with and is unsafe etc.
Is there no way to completely factory reset it, like it was when it was new?

If u have L09 u should flash stock recovery and then flash stock full firmware B101 and the bootloader should be locked and warning should be gone.
I guess there is an internal counter that is tripped when bootloader is unlocked. Like Samsung's Knox.
I have L04, after updating manually root was wiped and stock recovery installed but was still getting bootloader warning. I booted into stock "erecovery" by holding volume up while booting. From there i restored stock firmware and when rebooted warning was gone. So I am now stock without unlocked warning on boot, YAY!
I unlocked my bootloader and then installed the B131 full update. Afterwards my bootloader was locked again and i had it to unlock again.
-> If you want to completely reset, install a full update and do a factory reset
@whiper: after the bootloader was locked and you unlock again, did the phone a factory reset?

Yes. The unlocking process was the same after the update as before including factory reset.
I think the B131 update includes all partitions so that the unlock flag is overwritten.
After the update all was normal, no data wipe, but bootloader locked. I had to unlock it again and all data was wiped.
When i do the next update i will try an ota version.
(With my Honor 7 i did a full update which does not lock the bootloader, so i think it depends from the partitions the update contains)
Guys, just to make it clear. I have a L04 model. i am bootloader unlocked, rooted and have TWRP installed. Is it possible to relock and go back to stock, but simply flashing the stock L04 firmware? Does Honor 8 have some inbuilt trip to notify that the bootloader is unlocked?

Yes. Just flash the whole firmware using fastboot.

Completely Reset Honor Phone

Hi All, I currently have an Honor 8 that was previously bootloader unlocked and rooted with TWRP installed on EMUI 4. After I updated to EMUI 5 and Android 7.0, my bootloader was relocked, even though it says my phone is unlocked and untrusted when I turn it on, and I cannot install or access TWRP. I would like to completely reset my phone and reinstall the OS with the recent update, but I have no idea how. How can I do this?
Thanks!

Hi, your bootloader is still unlocked but after instal EMUI5 was reflashed recovery from stock firmware. If you want reinstall / reset your phone and relock bootloader, you must do rollback to MM and after this will be your bootloader relocked. Another way is manually relock, bootloader via fastboot. On my opinion the first way (downgrade to MM) is better for you

I'm sorry, I have no idea what you're saying. What is mm?

So you're saying if I were to roll back to marshmallow, my bootloader would be relocked and my phone wouldn't be so broken. And then I would directly update to the new version of android? If so, how would I do that? Thanks!

Well I'll tell you how I updated my Honor 8 L09 from B389 to B394 and you decide if you wish to proceed. What you get with update is probably new security patch (you are currently on May I assume? And get updated to August 5th) and some minor changes.
So I updated same way as I did the update before (B381 to B389). I was rooted and bootloader unlocked same way as you currently are now, stock EMUI. First what you must do is a full TWRP backup because there is a high chance your bootloader will relock and you will have to restore data partition on your updated device, or at least that's how I had to do it.
To update you need to extract stock recovery.img from B389 and flash it via fastboot. After that you download full update image via
Settings > Update Device and confirm that you want to update. After that device will reboot and you'll be booted to recovery where update will take place. Once that finishes your device should reboot and if you encounter the same scenario as I did you will find yourself with fully locked bootloader. You won't encounter the "Your device is unlocked and bla bla black screen", you will go straight to the system and your device will be unrooted.
What I did after that is go to the fastboot to confirm that my bootloader is locked and indeed it was. I was unable to flash my TWRP recovery again. So my only solution to rooting and having TWRP again was to unlock the bootloader once again. You know the drill for that... Enter "fastboot oem unlock xxxxxxxx" and confirm the dialog. Get full factory reset, and reenter the fastboot to finally reflash TWRP. So assuming that you made the backup now all that has to be done is restore only DATA partition. And not to forget flash latest SuperSU zip. Of course I recommend you wiping dalvik cache or not restoring the data partition at all and starting from the beginning on your new system just so you have a clean start and no unexpected bugs even if I have none personally.
That's it. Some people reported different scenarios while doing this update. This is only how it went for me and your situation might be different so ALWAYS do backups.

First of all thanks very much.
I'm really confident that is too much work for so few improvements.
I guess i will wait for Oreo update and the corresponding Emui version, and at that time i will get my hands busy!
I updated from B392SP02 super-easily via ota without losing root or my bootloader0unlock but beforehand I flashed the modified recovery that doesn't verify update files. (available in one of the threads here) Give that a try.

Reisntalling B385 stock rom to my FRD-L04

Hi guys,
I am currently trying to figure out how to reinstall a clean version of the B385 for my FRD-L04. I have downloaded these two files from the Nougat Update for FRD-L04 Honor 8 (USA):
Full ROM – http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/data/files/p3/s15/G1585/g104/v83098/f1/full/update.zip
Data File – http://update.hicloud.com:8180/TDS/...FRD-L04_hw_usa/update_full_FRD-L04_hw_usa.zip
I have tried to flash them both from TWRP, but I always get the error: Updater process ended error 7
Can anyone please guide me through the process and let me know what I'm doing wrong?
I have look for a guide or post where this is detailed, but without luck. Can anyone link me to a guide on how to reinstall the stock firmware in my Honor 8 FRD-L04?
Thanks! :good:
The best way (if you don't want to unlock bootloader) is to flash a downgrade package first, then dload the Marshmallow update and finally your preferred Nougat update though Firmware Finder.

Thanks for the response. In my case, my phone is rooted, so I don't mind unlocking the bootloader. Would you please elaborate on how to do it that way?

Unlock your bootloader and follow this guide:https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/guide-flashing-unapproved-firmwares-t3668306/
Choose the B385 firmware or any newer firmware available for your region.
So I decided to finally reinstall the stock firmware in my Honor 8 FRD-L04 in B389, and this is where the nightmare began.
- I made a full backup with TWRP just in case and I decided I wanted to start from the earliest firmware possible available.
- I started unrooting my phone using the UnSU zip by Osmosis.
- Then I flash via bootloader the recovery and boot image of the firmware B360.
- I flashed the rollback package from the Huawei official site with the B122 firmware also available at the same place. I saved the rollback package in my root directory in the dload folder, and loaded it with the 3-button method. After this I wasn't able to boot my phone normally, I was stuck in a boot loop. I still continue with the next firmware, the B122, and it was successfully loaded (this also relocked my bootloader).
- It is important to say I clear many times the cache and wipe/erase data through stock recovery options, and also tried to erecover but I wans't able to connect to the WiFi. I guess something was missing (at this point I was already going crazy).
- I was still stucked at a boot loop after loading the B122, so I decided to unlock my bootloader and flash the twrp 3.1.1-1-frd.img
- From there I tried to wipe data and cache and system and everything, but I wasn't able because an error saying unable to mount always appeared.
- After rebooting, since I already had unlocked the bootloader, the initial message prompting: "press power to continue, press for 3 seconds for erecovery, etc..." appeared.
- I enter the erecovery options with the hope it will do something... and it did!!! I could connect this time through WiFi and the system asked to update the firmware and many other things it said at that moment. This was the first time I felt relieved through the night.
- The phone updated perfectly, it started at the firmware B122 and I kept updating it until I reached the B389.
- I unlocked the bootloader again and rooted the phone. And everything is running smooth as silk!
I know this is a very long story, but I just want to get it out there in case anyone is facing the same problem I just passed. Hope this helps someone and brings peace to them! =) Good luck!
I believe B385 is not functional with TWRP. Flash B360 and reboot to recovery. This should go to stock recovery, where you will have to do a factory reset. I got EMUI working, but it refuses to update to any newer version (it does show B380 but doesn't update). Also there should be updates after making that update. The updates did work for other people, so you may be able to have it working.

Stuck at 4.4.2?

Hi guys. I got this phone yesterday and wanted to unlock the bootloader, flash to a stable lifghtweight image etc. First "WTF" came out of my mouth when I found out, that exactly a week ago - Huawei ended support for unlocking the bootloader. SO I paid 4EUR to DC Unlocker and it was done in a minute..
Anyway. After this the whole nightmare started. I tried several different images to flash it. Via fastboot, viac TWRP 2.8., via "push-all-3-buttons". Everything seemed to almost bricked the phone. None of the standard flashing procedures was able to start the phone into the OS. It has always somehow stuck at the boot Huawei screen. So maybe at 2:00am I downloaded a B127 stock FW (android 4.4.2 EMUI 3.0), copied the UPDATE.APP to a /dload of a SDcard and by using the "push-all-3-buttons" I was finaly able to get into EMUI recovery, upgrade the OS and start the phone into Android.
It was unfortunately version4.4.2, so of course I wanted to upgrade via OTA to either 5.1.1 or 6.0, but the installer said, that I am using the most recent version. Sorry, what? The Huawei Windows APP said the same. The only real progress I was able to make was to download a 2018 image from Huawei support page, which by using the push-3-buttons procedure "upgraded" the phone to 4.4.2 . In other words, it did nothing.
I have tried to use several let's say stock images from this page https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-7/general/huawei-mt7-l09-l10-stock-firmware-ota-t3275784 , but neither via fastboot nor via SDcard procedures were successful.
So is my Ascend Mate 7 really stuck on old Android without a chance to upgrade??
Huawei MT7-L09
Android 4.4.2
EMUI 3.0
Kernel 3.10.30-00234-g62b075b-dirty
Build MT7-L09V100R001C00B127
Custom Version CUSTC432D127
Have you tried extracting the .img-file from the UPDATE.APP which you downloaded with Huawei Update Extractor?
This image should be flashable via fastboot. Be careful to use only those full firmwares.
