Anyone get top shot to work? I've taken pictures but not able to find the ability to choose the best one

You have to turn motion on and then swipe up on the photo. See here https://www.cnet.com/how-to/pixel-3-camera-google-tips-and-tricks-to-get-the-best-photos/

Yes, and I may not leave it on after discovering that the alternate images are only 1mp in resolution. Hardly useable for even a smartphone screen.

MMS pictures turned sideways

When I attach a picture that I took in portrait mode to an SMS it gets turned sideways. In other words, pictures always get attached in landscape mode. Is there any way to change that?

I don't like this either.
The fix is to crop photo, after taking your shot, then delete the original to alleviate any confusion, and after that lengthy process, you can now post to MMS, or Facebook, correctly. I would hope to see an easier fix, but this works for now.

ya what the heck? I just noticed this. I don't recall ever having this problem on my N1... did I just never upload images???
Rotate doesn't even help! One of the nicest things about android is the easy of sharing photos to multiple places QUICKLY from the regular OS apps and this completely defeats the purpose. It's not just SMS it's sending to Facebook and other sharing as well.
HAVE to CROP the picture to get it to upload properly?
Don't recall ever having to do that either... /mad

its an issue with all SGS phones
Only way I've fixed it is to actually crop the picture in the gallery. Then they stand up straight.

Galaxy S4 camera apk port or alternatives...

Hello guys, is there anyone working on porting the galaxy s4 app for the Nexus 5?
I really love my Nexus 5, but the S4 camera app is way better! better pictures, better modes, I can take pictures while filming or I can press and hold the photo button and it takes 20 pictures in a few seconds... those are features that I miss in Nexus 5 camera app...
If there is any alternative, please comment below.. thanks!!!

Hi,
You can do that with the Nexus 5... At least with the stock camera app.

Can they even port the s4 camera onto the s4 aosp? Usually not.
Pretty sure you just press the screen when recording video to take a picture.
please don't post questions in general

Just touch, I mean tap, the screen while filming...
It's written on the screen the first time you launch the camera in video mode

sorry about the question in the wrong place
You listed 2 different features. We answered we have 1 of them.
Many camera apps on play store that can offer burst mode

Ok. But why put "or" in your sentence?
For me you speak about two different things, take pictures while filming AND long press on shutter button to take 20 pictures in on time...
But no worries.

Search and you will find: Moto X Camera, LG Camera Port, Modified "Stock" Camera. I've only tried the modified stock one, and like it a lot.

Duo camera issues.

I keep getting a message about duo camera lenses being blocked. Does not happen in portrait mood but always in landscape mode it happens while I hold the phone by the very edges. I am inside my house could it be that there is not enough light?
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Could there be dust or a fingerprint on one/both of the lenses?
Also if you're using a case, make sure that it isn't covering either lens as well.
No case and I don't see anything on the lens. I guess it's just mine. Contacted HTC and they said it's an app interfering with the camera because when they had me boot the phone into safe mode, the problem does not occur. I don't have anything downloaded that's camera related.

By any chance does that happen when you block the sensor next to the front camera?
Idk why would that matter taking a picture with the rear camera?

The issue has not been happening lately. I didn't change anything. Anyway I didn't really buy the phone for the camera.

If anyone can figure out what app may be interfering, I'd be curious to know as I'm getting this error also. I also don't have any camera apps.
I can cause the message to pop up in auto mode by getting the lens close enough to something where the top lens doesn't see the same thing as the main lens but I'm guessing you weren't very close to anything since you were in landscape mode.

This. I've noticed myself when taking a picture and something is closer to the left side in landscape mode.
The whole reason behind this camera structure is for depth. That is why 1 lens is slightly recessed to the other. Its provides better distinction making it similar to the human eye. Yes, one eye is slightly recessed to the other, allowing this to occur. We are smarter and faster at processing that information better than the phone can, so essentially, if something appears closer to the left lens, it will error out.
Fix, cover both lenses, move camera, uncover.

Duo Camera Blocked
I am also having this issue. My original M8 camera worked fine but I swapped it due to an unrelated issue. Now, whenever I load the camera app, it says "Duo Camera Blocked". Obviously there is nothing in the way and I have no third party camera apps installed. In fact I have the exact same setup as the previous phone which didn't have an issue.
I'm starting to think that this is a hardware issue and will need replacing. Is anyone else seeing this problem?
duo camera is blocked
First sorry for my bad english,
I got the same problem..When i open my camera app it says '' Duo camera is blocked blabalblaa '' even i ddnt cover the duo camera with my fingers..I sent it to Technical service to change with new one and im still waiting the results from service..And i think this problem will be a chronical problem like what happen to m7 ( pink camera ) last year..

Yes my friend
Anyone help it ?
I just got my M8 today, played with it for a couple of hours before unlocking the bootloader. Restored titanium backup after unlocking, everything was fine until I opened the camera. I also keep getting the "duo camera blocked" warning, I tried taking pictures for an hour straight but the warning persists and I can't use U-focus or any other duo feature on every picture I take.
I'm on stock ROM and recovery and unrooted. Tried to restoring factory settings, no success. Just updated to the newest firmware (1.54.401.10) via OTA but still no working duo camera.
Should I sent it back for repairs (with relocked bootloader) or has someone found a solution for this problem?
Hey I started the thread, but I can not explain how my issue as just gone away. But I think I stated I don't use the camera that much but have recently been using it without issue. Strange. When in doubt I would just exchange if that's an option for you.
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I know this is probably very obvious, but make sure your finger isn't covering the Duo camera at all. I've had that message a couple times and it was due to my finger blocking it. You won't see it on the screen.
I'm definitely not blocking the second camera. I tried taking pictures in portrait and landscape, inside and outside, with every possible grip, there is no dirt or dust on the lenses, it just doesn't work..
I just got on the phone with customer support, they advised me to sent it back for repairs.
After calling I just noticed something that might explain what's wrong with my phone. If I look very closely at the second camera lens, it seems like it's tilted sideways a couple degrees. I attached a photo taken through a mirror (I don't have another camera at the moment). Can someone confirm that it's not supposed to be this way?
Its hard to tell in the pic, but to me it looks like the Duo is aimed slightly up. Try taking the pic a bit farther back from the mirror and without the case. Also I've found it's very sensitive to fingerprints causing slightly blurry photos, and you have one on the main lens. See if you can get a slightly clearer one.
Here's a better picture, taken with another camera. I drew a red square to show how the lens appears to be tilted.
I'm sending the phone back for repairs tomorrow, I hope they don't make a big deal of the bootloader being re-locked.

Resize Photos In Gallery

I searched the forum and didn't find anyone else ask this so I'm posting. Question is, is it possible to resize the photos in the gallery? I could on my S5, but I don't see the possibility on the G3.

As in crop? Or do you want to lower the resolution?

I wonder if I lost that function from rooting. If I don't have Google+ installed, I have no way of editing my photos. It allows it through the Photos app which is part of Google+. Interesting...

I'm rooted and I don't have a shrink option either. infact the whole edit screen is completely different, and what's that icon in the top left of your screen? it's almost like you've installed a different editor or something.

I just took a picture and posted it to instagram without issue.
I imagine something like this would work in a pinch https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xnview.XnResizeLite
I don't have any issues with posting either, but if you want to include the entire image you can't.
I think it's safe to say that rooting messes with some things.

I doubt that. nothing changed when I rooted it.
as for posting the whole picture, instagram seems to require square pictures, which means you're going to crop them or distort them to make it work. There's nothing to be done about that, if you resize the whole photo you're going to distort it, if you crop then you lose the sides.
I would suggest framing the picture properly so when you crop it you're not losing the focus of the image. The other thing you can do is trick it with an app eg: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.artyapphouse.squareit&hl=en which adds white borders to the image to make it square

Thanks for the reply. I knew that about Instagram, but I'm telling you, the edit functions disappeared after rooting. Look at the attached screenshot. There's no pencil (edit icon) if you remove Google+. Unless that is the only option provided to us for editing, which it may have been as I didn't pay attention to it until I rooted, then something is missing.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of if rooting removes some editing options out of the gallery app. I'm going to use the flashtool and see if anything changes when I'm back to 100 percent stock.

Well, I did the FlashTool and still no editing capabilities without Google+ and their Photos app. Apparently LG is using Google's software to edit photos. Very limited choices and I'm a little disappointed.

then dont remove them? they dont really do anything if you dont use them, they just sit there, and atleast youd be able to edit your photos.
on the up side it offers free backup of all your photos if you do use it... pretty nice perk if ya ask me
try installing another app that's for editing images and see if that works?

Camera Lag

Anyone know a way to get rid of the delay between when you hit the button to take a picture? My camera takes a few seconds to focus before it takes the shot, which always leaves you missing something in the moment. My wife has an m8 as well on another carrier but don't see the same lag there.
