Issue with Twitter notifcations - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

So on the htc 10 which is what I am coming from I am able to choose silent notification or different notification level for each app, that seems to have changed. I cant find any way to get rid of vibration or sound just for specific apps within the notification setting panel. In the Twitter app theres nothing specific and if there is I have it off and in the app settings within the phone it just gives me the type of notifications such as direct messages, news etc. No where does it let me turn off sounds or vibrations for the app.

Within the Twitter app in the settings the only option is under Display and Sound, second from the bottom you can turn off in app sounds.
If you go to the app settings (where you would force close or clear data) and tap Notifications it lists multiple categories such as Direct Messages, Related to you and your tweets, etc. Here you can disbale ALL notifications (but moving the slider at the top to OFF) and the checkbox next to each of these turns them on or off completely.
If you tap on the item like Direct Messages (or any other item) you can again toggle them off for that function (same as unchecking on the previous screen) and set the behavior. I have most set to Show Silently, which will not vibrate or make sound. If Make Sound is on, vibrate is available under the Advanced roll up. Review settings for each type and turn vibrate off or change all to Show Silently if that's what you're after.
Hope this helps.

Turning off handcent taskbar notifications

Does anyone know how to turn these off? I remember reading the advice on how to do this, and now I can't find it.
I get the audio notification, but then, I have to go and drag down on the toolbar to show notifications and then tap the one for the latest sms, even if I've already answered it.
I'd like to know how to NOT have toolbar (taskbar?) notifications trigger with every sms.
I think going into the app, menu, settings, notification settings, and checking "privacy mode" will get you what you want...

Vibrate on SMS

Hi..stupid question but i cannot seem to get my phone to vibrate whenever I receive a text or notification..can someone tell me where i can go to set this?
I tried going into settings, sound and display but i do not have vibrate as a selection in the notification ringtone tab.
Is there an app i can download that allows me to customize my sounds?
thanks!
the settings for notifications are within each messaging application. if you go to your sms application, hit the options button and go into settings. at the bottom you will find the notification settings, including vibrate and a ringtone selection. notifications for each of your messaging apps are configured this way.

Nothing you can do about that in android. Thats the default android vibrate for notifications. I think it sucks too, its way too short and too soft of a vibration.
What you can do is install SMS Popup. Go into settings on that app and enable notifications on it. It has more options for SMS notifications, like you can set a really long vibration. Just remember to then go into the Android messaging app and turn off notifications there, otherwise you'll get double notifications. This will only help fix the problem for SMS messages. I think android still sucks on incoming notifications for other items like emails, etc.
I REALLY like SMS Popup, its great.
whats the best custom setting. i am trying to set it so it virbates alot and i can feel it

Mi Mix 3 Notification Issues

I've just yesterday gotten a Mi Mix 3 and set it up accordingly, and I'm finding MIUI okay as a whole except for some issues with notifications I'm having. Basically:
Some apps that send push notifications will only send them to the notification shade. No notification icon, no pop-up alert, no lock screen notification (more on that later), no sound, no vibration, no notification light. This is all completely independent of the notification settings of the app. I can turn everything on and it still won't show. Some apps show fine, such as discord and messages, but they still won't show on the lockscreen:
No notifications showing on the lockscreen at all. For apps that do send notifications, only the sound and notification light will display when I receive one, but checking both the lockscreen and notification shade whilst the phone is locked will show me nothing until I unlock it. This is while "Lock screen notifications" is enabled in the app notification channel.
No per-app notification sounds. This is most likely less of a bug and more of a missing implementation, but since this is a base Android feature now is there alternate way to enable these?
Settings specific to these issues:
In "Lockscreen & Password / Advanced Settings / On Lock Screen" the phone is set to "Show all notifications and their contents".
In "Lockscreen & Password / Notifications" it's set to "Show Animation".
In "Notifications & Status bar" "Show notification icons" and "Show on lock screen" is on.
MIUI version is fully updated at 10.2.1.
Anyone got any idea?
Many thanks
For me i had to activate it for each app seperately, that i wanted notifications from. Except for apps that already gave me notifications like snapchat. I know i had to do it manually on instagram for example

Strangely, by going into the app notification settings and changing the settings off and on again it seems to have fixed the problem? At least for the actual app's I've tested (twitter and discord).
I've also tried with an app called push notification tester however and this has the same 1. and 2. issues. I'm not sure what the difference is but if it works for important stuff at least that's what matters.
To everyone else the 3rd question still stands; is there a way to get app-specific notification sounds in MIUI 10?
The simple solution is to install a non-MIUI-based ROM.
Have someone found out how to set per app notification sound?

LOL. Stop fat-shaming it! Weight was one of my biggest concerns coming from a Galaxy S5, and the MM3 is heavy, but you do get used to it after a couple of weeks.

Literally burst out laughing in a meeting where I'm the lowest man on the totem pole by far, oops.
I'm having this same problem again myself
Even Xiaomi apps like YiCam don't work right half the time.
The notification inconsistency in MIUI is one of the biggest reasons that I just listed mine for sale. No matter how many times I've gone through individual app settings and overall notification settings, it never works as expected. And my expectation is only for it to work as the settings that I've selected indicate. It makes me a little sad actually... this was my first Xiaomi device and I ended up liking MIUI way more than I thought I would (especially compared to EMUI... which is complete trash). Oh well... on to the next.
I run an app called Notification Repeater(apk) and it seems to address any of the inconsistencies that MIUI has with Notifications(or lack there of). I use another app called AutoNotification(by joaomgcd on the Play Store i believe) to block some notifications such as "x app is diplaying over other apps" that never seem to go away.
I know it kind of sucks to have to find a work around to use a phone when realistically it would be nice if your phone just worked the way you wanted it to out of the box..but since installing these apps i have been more than happy with my current situations when it comes to Notifications.
I've also had similar problems. In addition to manually turning on each apps notification in settings (Have to remember this for every time I download an app as well) I've aslo downloaded the app 'Notification Repeater' which has helped significantly. I get absolutely ZERO notifications on the lock screen though which is something I still haven't figured out how to fix without switching ROMs. I hope someone can figure something out.

Any way to disable wake screen for notifications?

I tried to enable from Custom restrictions "Don't turn on the screen" and "Don't wake for notifications" with no luck. Is this a bug or bad user?

Always nice to answer to your own questions . Ambient display -> disable New Notifications. Oneplus logic escapes me.
Disable notifications
Go to the Settings app on android > Sound & Notifications > Scroll Down and App Notifications under notification section > Tap on App name installed on your mobile > Turn off the notification for the app.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, but I wanted just to disable wake screen for notifications not to disable notifications. Was a little confused initially since Oneplus seems to have two settings for the same thing. Got it in the end...
I have the same problem, but your solution does not work for me. As far as I can tell I have everything in ambient display turned off, but the screen still wakes up (to the normal lock screen). To confirm: THE TOGGLE SETTING "NEW NOTIFICATIONS" IS NOT HIGHLIGHTED, WHICH MEANS IT IS OFF. HOWEVER, THE SCREEN STILL WAKES UP.
In addition to that I even have "no notifications on lock screen" selected, which means my screen WAKES UP AND SHOWS NOTHING. It's distracting and useless at the same time. Very annoying.
I have now turned on "ambient display when I pick up the phone". This finally made my screen stop lighting up by itself, though of course now it does it when I pick it up. But at least it doesn't distract me while I'm working on my pc with my phone on the table.
I like my 7 Pro very much...and since this is my 2nd phone from OnePlus, I guess I am fairly satisfied with their implementation of Android Q. However, their way of setting up notifications is one of the worst things I have ever seen! It is convoluted, confusing, and counter intuitive.... not to mention just plain ridiculous. I hope they really get on the ball with the issue of notifications and their useless Horizon light very SOON because a cell phone without proper, accurate, notifications totally defeats the purpose of having a "portable" communications device.

I am having the same issue, how did you get the screen to stop waking up?
I'm trying to find a fix for this, as well. I have an app that wakes screen besides delivering the notification with/without sound. And now I realize I have another one. I also want to have those notifications on, but without waking my screen, just like most of the other apps' notifications. And this is not related to ambient display. In my case, I have stock Android, on a Pixel 3XL.
Thanks!

Actually, there is a fix now, if you run Android 13. Under Apps->Special app access, there is a new option called 'Turn screen on'. I disallowed the annoying app and solved my issue.
I want to disable lock screen wake up for text messages and still no luck on S23. I went under special app access and disabled "Turn screen on" for the messages app (and others), and guess what? The screen still comes on when I get a text. HOLY ANNOYING.
You can turn Lock Screen Notifications completely off, but I dont want that. I want the audible notification to come in without turning the battery draining screen on, and when I tap the screen with my finger I want to see the app badge that tells me when app the notification came in on (signal, or messages, or fakebook, etc). If it's fakebook I may ignore it for example.

As I said in my post, I don't want to disable notifications, I want to disable lighting up the whole screen. The notification icon should show on the always on display without going full annoying brightness on the screen for 5 seconds. That's just dumb.

You might want to consider utilizing the Google Issue Tracker which is a tool used internally at Google to track bugs and feature requests during product development.
For Do Not Disturb - If you have the setting "Always show time and info" enabled (Settings > Display > Lock Screen > Always show time and info) your screen will display a dimly lit clock when the screen is locked, among some other status icons.
In the DND settings, if you check "Don't wake for notifications" and you get a new notification (text, ig, whatever the notification is), it will not show on the screen until you unlock the phone. It will just display that clock and you'll be unaware of the notification.
If you UNcheck "Don't wake for notifications", the lock screen with the large dimly lit clock will change to show the small icons for whatever the notification is.
If you do NOT have enabled the setting "Always show time and info" (Settings > Display > Lock Screen > Always show time and info), I imagine it would be the same behavior, except you would see a difference when you manually wake up (but don't unlock) your screen--you would either see that you got a text message or whatever the notification is, or you wouldn't until you fully unlock the screen.

Quick panel shortcut to disable notifications

Is there a 3rd party app perhaps that lets you add a custom Quick panel shortcut to disable/enable notifications from either a certain/multiple/all apps? Something like "Do not disturb" except it doesn't turn your phone into silent mode, it just turns off the text notification/s. Like if I receive an email, the Gmail icon would still show a +1 counter or even trigger the new email sound, but I wouldn't receive any notification at the top of my screen. Like if I'm showing my photo gallery to a friend, I don't want a random email or SMS or whatever from whomever to pop up and my friend sees it - it's none of their business. I know I can also go manually into Settings, Apps & turn Notifications off completely for specific apps, but I just want a quick 1 tap shortcut like I have for "Do not disturb" mode and also not disable them completely, but just the text notification at the top.
