Hallo,
I just bought a new display for my i9505, the item was guaranteed a genuine super amoled lcd screen for samsung i9500. I mounted it with no problem, put the phone with the new screen next to another i9505 with a known original super amoled display and turned both on at the same time. They both lit up,, but I immediately noticed that on the new screen, blacks in the boot logo are not nearly as dark as on the original, as pixels do turn on to draw black colour, while on the original display they don't (that is how all super amoled displays work, don't they?).
I reported the problem to the seller, who claims that the lcd is absolutely a genuine, original Samsung super amoled display for i9500, and that the reason why it behaves like that is that the screen is actually meant for i9500 and it is not compatible with i9505.
I did a little search, but i found nothing about the matter. Is there a possibility that the display may actually be a super amoled, and that due to some known incompatibility with i9505 it is under-performing, as if it was a normal lcd (not super amoled)?
Besides this, the screen works fine.
I'm asking your help because I'm in a dispute and would like to understand if I am wrong.
Thank you
If the screen is for the i9500 then it's probably acting up because of that. It also might just be an AMOLED screen rather than a super AMOLED. This is my guess anyway, I could be totally off here.
this screen is a non-original lcd. Both variants use super-amoled. his screen is only of poor quality, that is, replica second line or worse yet.
AMOLED and Super AMOLED
Let's go for a quick explanation ... the screen you bought is not original because we do not have 100% black and yes you bought an LCD screen.
This is due to the fact that, with AMOLED screen technology, LEDs do not emit light, but they turn off with a black background and therefore do not "work".
Already the technology Super AMOLED, brings to the consumers an update in relation to AMOLED. The consequence of this advancement are light smartphones with the screen even sharper and faster.
The innovation of the displays with Super AMOLED technology was the inclusion of a touch-sensitive layer, which resulted in the exclusion of a layer of glass on top of the screen, since it is no longer necessary.
Therefore, the main difference between AMOLED and Super AMOLED is related to the number of sub-pixels available. The higher the number, the better. The greater the presence of different colors and the intensity of light on the screen.

From what we saw the difference of the AMOLED and Super AMOLED is a quality of the image and the removal of the glass.
The two technology by what we see black is 100% (or as some real black speech)... then we deduce that you are with an LCD.
If I'm wrong, correct me.
Good luck!
A good and easy way to determine if your screen is a Samsung AMOLED or a crappy LCD, is to play a bit with some backlighting with the screen off. If you see some blue-ish color on the screen panel, probably is AMOLED, but if its black, 100% is LCD and not AMOLED.
This is specially noticeable under the sunlight.

I really love my Captivate... but the screen is annoying me. Sitting next to my Evo, the pixellation on the Captivate is EXTREMELY noticeable and makes the phone look like it has a crappier resolution even though its .3inches smaller.
I imagine that I'm just stuck with this? Why would they do this? It makes the phone's display, which is a premium display, look like its cheap!
I've noticed it almost looks like the pentile pixels move around so I wonder if its a software feature and not just the screen or is that just wishful thinking?
man... you have a VERY good eyes... but the cappy screen is VERY good...
I have noticed that too my friend samsung mesmerise or whstever its called look better and less pixely but i guess its just the scrren you csnt do nothing about it

Well I used the Evo for ... well when did it come out, june? So I've used it since then... so its really easy for me to spot the pentile effect on the Captivate.
Don't get me wrong, I love my Captivate... but actually having to zoom in the browser now to read things is not my most favorite thing in the world. On my Evo, I would hardly ever zoom in landscape... and I wouldn't have to with the Captivate either but for the stupid pentile matrix on the display. I don't notice it so much with videos and things (which are absolutely phenomenal), just with white screens or when I'm browsing or holding the phone too close to my face. And the pentiles DO move - I'm guessing this is to prevent the AMOLED burn-in?
pentile = pixelization? or my english is too bad to understand you?
Pentile is different on the pixel level than LCD's. Here's a visual...

Read the picture. It says there's 33% fewer subpixels, therefore less detail in the end (especially with text). The LCD displays have S-AMOLED beat by a pretty good margin with detail. Personally though, I love it because of the contrast ratios and color reproduction. It's the KING of black levels, with 100,000:1 static contrast ratio.
Guess we're just hosed on it... feels like 33% less resolution which is unacceptable...
I have a DroidX and a SGS, the SGS blows away the Droid X screen. But one thing I noticed is with the stock screen protector on it would make text look funny. You should try removing it and see if it helps. It was like my screen protector was reflecting light or something. Switched it out with a universal one and poof all better.
Here is a possible picture of Nexus Prime and his 1,280x72 display screen resolution:
http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-19736_7-20115325-251/might-this-be-the-nexus-prime/
That's 320dpi on 4.5" screen vs Apple's 326dpi on a 3.7" screen. I'll take that in the Super AMOLED plus please.
They better have a huge battery to last! Notice the touch on-screen buttons
My prediction is that the size of the phone will be just about the same as Nexus s but the extra space for buttons and probably little more on top makes the extra .5" of screen.
And when you think about it, it makes total sense because for movie watching, you can just get those buttons out of the way and have a bigger screen.
I wish it's not only released under Verizon as rumor said so.. it would be great if it is a GSM/CDMA compatible device

That would be an asinine move figuring iPhone is on the big 3 now. And I don't know where you read that. (I didn't read the cnet article there so if it was there...)
I like that leak better than the last that everyone believes. And that's just some words with Honeycomb buttons.
Of course this could just be the Honeycomb launcher theme with a background image of what appears to be info about the phone.

I really hope your prediction comes true about the size of the new Nexus because if it's not, I won't be buying a phone that's over 4,3 and if i can't upgrade to a Nexus phone than i might just test uncharted water...
Releasing on locked cdma carrier is bad move should stick to the traditional unlocked GSM that's if it is true about verizon

They need to release on all carriers. Also, they better stick to one version/name for all carriers like they did with the nexus s
love samsung displays
My wife got the Epic when I got my EVO. I envy her display. The colors are so much more rich. A co-worker just got the new Galaxy 2...WOW.
Not sure I like the idea of zero physical buttons. Though that might just be PTSD from the Blackberry Storm 2.
wow 4.6inch screen lol. this thing is gonna be a monster
whoooooa
I hope it isn't as curved at the picture makes it look
Love these leaks, the iphone 5 looked so cool
Oh that's cool! 2
other than the LTE features, its no real different than whats already available. Also why the 1.2Ghz processor. Most are releasing with 1.5

I got my HOX yesterday to substitute my galaxy note. Loving it so far. However, the screen seems to have the colors washed away. I realize that I moved from an amoled display to a LCD, but I just want to make sure this is to be expected and I don't have a faulty unit.
This is mostly noticeable on the xda app, where the colors on the threads page seem to be very washed out compared to my galaxy note.
See third post for pictures of the screen.

I think you would need to take a picture to actually show the screen issues you are talking about. With a pic, it may still be hard to see it. Screenshots will not show any defects with the screen hardware.
:banghead:
You're right, I will upload a pic later today.
Thanks
edit ---
Here are the pics. You're right, it is hard to notice, but hopefully somebody has seen both devices first hand and can share their opinion.

AMOLED screens are going to be a bit cold (blueish) so when comparing a LCD screen to an AMOLED screen, the LCD screen will appear to be warmer (yellow). But now compare it to another LCD screen from another phone and see what color it looks like then.
To be honest, I prefer the color of my LCD2 screen to my Galaxy S II SAMOLED+ screen.
Thanks for the info, will compare it to another LCD screen to get some perspective.

I think the colors are just fine. But to be sure you can take it to local at & t store and do some comparison with the display units that they have out there.
Sent from my HTC One X on Leedroid's ROM v5.0.0.
I had the Note for about 3 1/2 weeks, went back to my iPhone 4 for about 3 1/2 weeks, and then to the One X last week. I think the colors are just more accurate on the One X than what was on the Note. You're One X looks fine to me. I know you realize that the Amoled screens are all over the place with color accuracy and can really skew ones idea of what colors are supposed to look like. The colors are super oversaturated, often times the wrong hue, and everything has a blue cast to it.
If it's any comfort, I too, moved from a Samsung AMOLED screen and thought the HTC one x was experiencing issues with color. Too me, it all seems very warm and yellowish...but looks like that's pretty normal when I compare it to any other LCD.
Thank you all for your feedback. I have a record of bad luck when it comes to getting new cellphones, there is always an issue with the one I get.
This one is looking very, very solid so far. The only thing bothering me was the screen, but now I know it's supposed to be that way. I guess my mind got used to interpret blue as white due to the amoled screen of the note.
I imagine time will make it look better and better as I adapt to it.

My screen looks exactly like yours, its somewhat warm (yellow) and I'm not a fan. The demo unit at my local store looks perfect so I'm just waiting for inventory to flush a little maybe before trying to swap.
From the previews around the web, the screen looks way too blue. I wonder if LG borrowed the RGBW sub-pixel arrangement that they use for their OLED TVs? I am not a purist who lives and die by color accuracy, but it would be interesting to know how LG's OLED perform and differ compared to Samsung's AMOLED.
its not that different. Also, LCD's don't have the kind of pixel death issue and thus higher resale than OLEDs. The wallpapers look nice on the G-Flex 2: i hope someone uploads them (in full resolution) sometime soon.
For the love of everything holy, call it by its real name P-OLED.
LG didn't say anything about WRGB, and they usually boast about such things, so I assume it'll be like the original G Flex and be RGB. At least it's not pentile.

Pretty sure it is. If I get real close I can see jaggies.
is this screen(OLED) gonna burn-in like Samsung's amoled ??????
I do not know if this is true or not but I remember reading somewhere that the G Flex 2 has 4 sub-pixels per pixel instead of the usual 2 sub-pixels found on pentile arrangement. I find that hard to believe but I am throwing it out there since it is not totally outside of imagination. But you would think LG would have gone for 2560x1440 if that is the case.. you know, at least for marketing. I know that the GPU will have to work harder at higher resolution (thus higher power consumption), but my general impression is that the display itself consumes more power than GPU, especially for non-3D workloads.

There will be uneven wear amongst different sub-pixels. That is the nature of OLED tech, and every tech in general. Once you start using electronic devices they all start to wear. The question is always the matter of degree and kind, and how it is mitigated.
So far next to my g3 this screen looks more colorful and just as sharp. Remind me of a Samsung device. Screen is pretty good if you worried no blue tint aleast from mine
Agreed. One of the best screens i have seen.
Does anyone else seem to have the grainy issue that the original g flex had

No grain on sprint Model looks just as good as my nexus 6 i had but the colors pop more on this phone.
Only complaint I have on the screen is that the brightness doesn't go that low

i need phone not tab or iphone or ipad or kindle
for reading books - browsing some leaning app
i do not use it for gaming or camera
so MI 10 t with IPS screen as many say it is better for eyes
or go for samsung s21 Ultra
i know it is big difference in price also in spec
i can get s21 ultra
but what i want o know s IPS screen will more comfort for long reading use
or the dynamic amelod will be better
i think i read hat S21 ultra
have many certification in eye protection and have low blue light
so which better to go
I'm not an expert but I don't think one of them is specifically better for reading/browsing (although AMOLED is overall better than IPS).
If you want a device specifically for reading I'd get one with an e-ink display which is better for your eyes than either IPS or AMOLED.
Edit: I googled it to make sure I know what I'm saying and apparently there is no actual evidence e-ink is better for your eyes.
Who knew.

Advantages of AMOLED over LCD technology
In addition to the power-saving effect, an AMOLED display has other advantages compared to an LCD: No backlight also means less heat loss. In addition, AMOLED displays deliver significantly stronger contrast, deeper black levels, a wider color gamut and excellent viewing angle stability in comparison. In addition, AMOLED displays have up to 1,000 times faster response times than LCDs - in some cases less than a microsecond. And OLED screens allow not only flat-built but also curved smartphones with their design.
Examples:
Lefthand a device with AMOLED-display, righthand a device with IPS-LCD display

There probably won't be a Note 21, and I don't think the S22 Ultra will have a screen much better than the S21 Ultra (which is already nearly perfect).
So yeah, I'd get the S21 Ultra.
