Verizon bootloader locked? - Google Pixel 3 Questions & Answers

Does anyone know if I get the Verizon pixel 3 at Best buy if the bootloader is unlockable? Or should I get it through Google store? I am a Verizon carrier customer.

It will be locked. The only place in the US that you can get a new Pixel that is bootloader unlocked is the Google store.

Thank you. I was near a Best buy and glad you responded. I was going to get it there since I can have it in my hands immediately but knowing bootloader is locked, I refuse to buy it there. I'm still on a Nexus 6p with terrible battery life so I'm looking for an upgrade. If you are a pixel 3 user, would you justify that upgrade?

From a 6P, absolutely. The camera alone is worth it

Google Pixel XL locked to carrier?

Hi,
I'm in the market for a new smart phone and thought the Pixel XL would be a good fit for what I do. As I search online, I notice that some Pixel XL smart phones are locked to Verizon.
Now this may be a stupid question, but couldn't I unlock this phone from this carrier and use it on any network (T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint, ...etc)? As I understand it, can't you unlock any phone from any carrier? If so, what's the best website to use to unlock the phone?
I want to be sure before I buy.
Thx,

If only it was that simple.
If you want the Pixel XL either but it from the Google store or wait a few more weeks for pixel XL 2. With The Pixel 2, I am unsure if it is Verizon exclusive, like the previous, or not.
Some carriers [emoji12] do a good job at tricking the consumers. They convinced me that I would have a unlockable xl but failed to say when they started phone up and connected to their WiFi it would update asap and lock the phone down to which I have not found the key hahaha

There has got to be a way to unlock a Pixel XL from Verizon! Somebody has done it and I'm waiting for that person to chime in here.
Either Verizon or Google's version of the Pixel XL, it's still the same phone! Right?
Yes it has been done several months back but once everyone started using the exploit that was found in the system it was taken care of and locked up by Google or Verizon. And when the next security patch update went through in the following months that exploit was no longer usable.
people are still looking for ways to unlock it but it's almost not worth it to most Developers considering it takes up so much of their time when you have other phones at can be done easily.
Regarding the question about them being the same phone yes they are but they have different firmware patches so Verizon can lock there's whereas Google its unlockable. If the reason you want to get the phone from Verizon is that way you can get it financed or make monthly payments you can still do that on Google because Google has been working with a bank to finance their phones and other devices.

Ok, good to know. I was wondering why these "unlocking websites" never had an option for Verizon.
This is why I had to check before I buy a Verizon locked phone and want to use it on a different network.
Ok, guess I'm buying my phone already unlocked then.

Had I known Google was actually getting there phones financed I would have gone through them myself. Unfortunately I was making it a point to buy my first "stock" Droid this time round and couldn't go and pay out of pocket for a phone

Likelyhood bootloader 6t

I wonder what the likelyhood that oneplus 6t will have a locked bootloader if I get it from tmobile. I know you can get the unlocked version directly from oneplus.
I read somewhere that the bootloader will be locked until your're done paying off the phone. Then they will unlock the bootloader.

Unfortunately yes :/ just read it I think on the T-Mobile news app. Could have been from XDA though. I guess you can get it unlocked once you pay off half the phone.
I am on jump on demand, so I was ready to jump all over this! Tired of the lock bootloaders on my Samsung phones. I've had Samsung from the Galaxy 5 all the way up to the 9 obviously all snapdragon and all the "notes" in between. There's some awesome developers on here but no one has been able to unlock the bootloader I believe since Galaxy 6 :/
The jump on demand program is great since I like having the latest and greatest without having to Shell out the cash. Also the T-Mobile 6t version won't be a dual SIM card either.
Anyone please chime in and tell me something different .. haven't been rooted for a while, hopefully I missed something.
I have a T-Mo mobile and I confirm it's locked
Go to Tmobile and buy the phone outright or if on a plan, pay it off.
OR
Don't buy the Tmobile branded OP6

Crack flasher with verizon

Anyone here just give in and get the pixel 3, knowing that the bl can't be unlocked?
I've always bought my phone's from Google, but Verizon's offering me a good deal on the 3 xl. I know it's locked, and it'll be the first phone I bought that I can't modify. But I'm debating giving in and just waiting for an exploit.
Anyone in the same boat?

I am not in the verizon boat, but wait for an exploit is too risky for me i rather buy a google phine,
I guess it depends on why you want the BL unlocked other than "just because." Many rooted users do nothing more than run AdAway (there are good non-root ad blockers), Titanium Backup and TWRP (the Google backup process has got much better over the years and even some flashaholics don't restore TB or nandroids). The Verizon version of the Pixel 3 is pretty much identical to the Google version since even the Verizon apps can be removed.
You can probably count me as one of the "just because" folks, but I did honestly think hard about buying a One Plus 6T on T-Mobile and not unlock root (at least initially) because of the rebate they were offering when it 1st came out. To me, the bigger issue was that it was only being offered on payment plan phones. You could pay it off but not immediately, and I assume the Verizon price is similar.

Can I unlock and root the Pixel 3 (Fi and Google store versions)?

Pretty much the title says it all, just want to know before I purchase one.
Thanks!

Thanks, I am either going to get a new one from Google Fi store, or pick up a used one on Swappa. I assume as long as it has the E Sim, it will be unlock able?

I'd be real cautious on swappa. I may be wrong but I think the Verizon, unlockable version, still has an esim. If you do use swappa you want to make sure what you buy is bootloader unlockable. Not that it's just unlocked, which means it'll work on all carriers. All pixels are carrier unlocked. I've seen a number of users who thought they were buying an unlocked phone and didn't realize that it was carrier unlocked and not bootloader unlocked.
Okay, I will ask the seller that question, and hold his feet to the fire that it must have an unlock able bootloader.

Ask for the first two numbers of the IMEI. If it's 99 it's bl unlockable. If it's 35 look elsewhere. But even so make sure you have it in writing somewhere.
After reading all the poor reception complaints, that SOME owners are experiencing, I might just look into a Pixel 2.

Unlocking Pixel 5 for Verizon

A simple search could have answered that before you purchased the phone.
Glad I found this so Verizon hasn't changed I was just thinking maybe get that model for mm wave support but I want to be able to unlock the bootloader.

mmwave support is in all Pixel 5s sold in the US. No need to get a VZW branded device for any reason other than deals, rebates and paying it off over 24 months without further credit checks.
